I loved most of their dishes and thought the flavor was really good in their braised fish, vermicelli + scallop noodles, tong xin cai, and double cooked pork belly, but they recommended this one dish that was honestly so awful. Came here for lunch. I really enjoyed the dishes we chose, particularly the pork with bamboo shoots (surprisingly flavorful). The fried shrimp with salted egg yolk corn also went really well with rice, however I will mention the shrimp has a lot of breading and it takes a while to reach the actual meat. We ordered gold medal pork feet, garlic pea sprouts, sichuan style dongpo pork, and shredded pork with dried tofu. Portions were large. You do need to order rice along with the dishes. Chen's is our go-to restaurant for spicy Sichuan food. They have some of the most authentic Sichuan dishes and hot pot that we've found in the metroplex. While the ambiance is more "fly-restaurant style", the flavors never disappoint. My husband and I first tried out this restaurant last year when they got a new chef, and Sichuan dishes seem to be their speciality. Now we are regulars and have tried a large number of their dishes. It is a bit difficult to highlight our favorite dishes. We were hesitant to try their hot pot at first, since we hadn't heard much about it. There are quite a few places to get Sichuan style hot pot in the area, but Chen's seems to have more depth of flavor compared to some of the other Sichuan broths. We also ask for extra seasoning, which gets it closer to what we can get back in Chengdu. We've only tried their spicy broth, so I can't comment on their other flavors. A select few of the items, like the frog, come at an additional charge. We were a bit disappointed with the portion size of the frog, so we haven't tried any of the other add ons. The hot pot is all you can eat and they provide good portions for most of the items. Some of the items are not as delicate as we'd like, but overall the flavor and cost make this our go to place for Sichuan hot pot. We've always had a great experience with the service, but I don't think many of the workers speak much English. So that may make it more difficult if you are not familiar with the menu items and have questions (just something to keep in mind if you don't speak Chinese). But the menu is pretty straight-forward and has lots of pictures. read more

Horrible !!!! I come to this restaurant a lot, normally the food and services are exceptional; unfortunately, today not sure what's gotten into them. First, my server served me my glass of ice water with an orange/reddish looking flake in the water. I didn't mind it at first, I just grabbed my water and walked toward the reception area trying to get a new glass of water. Instead of changing the water for me, they got very offended and trying to explain it's just lemon seeds. Three servers, only one actually looked at my glass but the other two didn't, yet all three of them were trying to persuade me it's just lemon seeds. I know what I saw, it's probably chili pepper flake which is understandable as this is a Sichuan restaurant. But the fact that they treat me like I was lying ruined my mood. We also ordered Dongpo pork, when it arrived at the table we were all stunned, normally this would consist of half fatty and half skinny meat, but this dish is I would say 80% fat (look at the picture I attached) when we raised our concern, our server again trying to convince us this is normal, we've been here multiple times, this is not normal ..... she refused to switch dish or do anything about it. We are all very disappointed, we are here celebrating my mom's birthday, we all walked out with frustration and disappointments. I used to come here on a semi regular basis and while the food isn't very impressive, it was a fairly good deal and there was variety. Until 3 days ago. My wife ordered 3 dishes here which I don't know the English names of but I'll describe them. First, there was this fish soup with sour cabbage and rice vermicelli. Second was this cold chicken dish in mildly sweet and hot sauce. Third was a desert: rice cake sticks covered with peanut bits and syrup. All of the dishes tasted off that day: the soup was heavily diluted and didn't have much taste. The chicken also was unusually bland. And the rice cakes tasted like chemicals. I threw out the rice cake but kept the other two in my fridge. Later that day, I felt a bit tired and weak but didn't think too much since I had eaten other food in addition to their food. 2 days later, I reheat their fish soup and chicken for lunch and felt unusually lethargic after eating. I thought it must be food coma or something but it didn't get any better after I had an energy drink. My wife didn't eat their food this time and urged me not to but I thought it was a waste not to; should have listened. Later that evening, I had the worst diarrhea in years. Although I don't have definitive proof, I sense a strong correlation between consuming their food of questionable cleanliness this time and my episode of food poisoning.
