After seeing all the hype about the Hot Tango Fish Fillet at Hunan Bistro, we had to come and try it for ourselves! It didn't disappoint, when it came to the table, I was amazed at how huge it was and the flavor was intense with lots of garlic and soy, it truly was an outstanding dish! The fillets melt in your mouth, it also had plenty of veggies on the bottom! We also had the following: steamed Pork Belly with Bun (the bun was very soft but the pork belly was kinda fat), sautéed Beef Fillet with Black Pepper (there wasn't much beef but had lots of other diced veggies, too salty), Sautéed Green Bean (this was very good, had some wok hei), walnut Shrimp (the shrimps were overcooked and didn't have much flavor), and sizzling Seafood Egg Tofu (this came out steaming hot and the tofu was very soft and great flavor)! Overall, I would order the Hot Tango Fish Fillet again for sure!

$17 sesame chicken (doesn't even include rice)

Portion sizes are ridiculously small for the prices they're charging. $17 for sesame chicken which didn't even include rice. Why is it mostly broccoli? Why can I get triple the amount of food from Panda Express at this price? Before you come for me and ask why I'm ordering sesame chicken from an authentic Chinese restaurant, this was a group order and the other authentic dishes were abismally portioned too. This place used to be a family favorite, but it seems they're getting greedy lately

This place is more like a 3.5 out of 5 stars. i forgot all the different entrees we ordered, since my wife did all the ordering.... but i do remember one dish, and it's a must get at this place. Whatever you do, get the hot tango fish. its a lot of food for one dish, and most likely you will have left overs, unless you come with a lot of people. But the sauce they use in the hot tango fish, is like crack. If you pour it onto rice, it makes it a meal by itself. I think we also got one pork dish and once veggie dish as well. Plenty of parking out front. Servers are friendly. Dishes are definitely family style.

Parking: Plenty Ambience: Casual Private room: Yes Crowd: Work, Family Average $20-ish per plate but it feeds FOUR! All dishes are great as left-overs as well Egg tofu seafood : Get it, flavorful. White fish (looks like tilapia) over a bed of veggies, has a slight kick to it. Garlic shrimp over clear noodles, fresh shrimp, tasty. Bring a crowd with you to try multiple dishes, portions are generous!

Fish with lamb soup , don't order it , the taste is very light, almost like water.

One of our friends recommended this place. We thought we could taste some yummy traditional Chinese food. Not sure if we didn't order the right food or what's going on , overall the taste is pretty disappointed. The only one dish we both liked was black pepper beef, it tasted pretty good. The rest of the dishes are tasteless, wasted our money and time . They also placed a wrong order for us and we waited longer for the right order to be served. Overall, one time shot, no plan to come back.

We went for late dinner on a weeknight with our middle son. We ordered Chicken with mixed vegetables, scallion pancake, garlic eggplant and Xiao long bao. They're delicious. Serving staff are helpful. Well lighted and decorated restaurant.

    ok but won't order again

Been to this restaurant many times. Food is always good from a big menu. The main waiter had a bad attitude last time we were there. He has been there for long time but he was rude and impatient last time. If you don't like your job, go somewhere else. As customers, we don't need to deal with your personal problems. So unprofessional.

When I come to a family-owned Chinese restaurant, I know that taste is king if there are many repeat customers and no-frills dining service. I was not disappointed both times I have been here. The dishes are cooked fresh with very authentic flavors across the entire menu; one part of the menu that I love is that you can actually customize your vegetable stir fry based on what flavors and vegetables you would like on a given day. I leave here feeling like my stomach is full and soul well-nourished, and that's my mark of good Chinese food.

Restaurant is big inside with plenty of seating for big and small parties. They can get pretty busy around mealtimes. It was still busy with a waitlist around 1:30 PM on Saturday. They have private rooms upon request and availability. Minimum bill for a private room must exceed $200. They have a super thicc menu; it's 46 pages long. There's a full color pic for every dish which is pretty amazing! Chef's special menu is on the wall in the back of the restaurant. The QR code on the menu's front cover is for the restaurant's official WeChat account. We ordered 3 dishes - 酸辣鸡胗, 爆炒猪肝,老长沙臭豆腐. 酸辣鸡胗 - I came specifically to eat this. It's very spicy, especially the green chili. I couldn't handle it and had to take them out. Despite that, the spicy was sooo~ delicious! The pickled radish and green beans were perfect. 老长沙臭豆腐 - The tofu was just a little stinky but the flavor was a bit lacking. I don't know if this is normal/authentic since I'm not from there; maybe just not my cup of tea. The crunchy radish on top was a nice addition. 爆炒猪肝 - The liver in this dish is stored frozen so it has a stinky taste. Beware if you aren't used to this kind of flavor in the US. I guess the staff is used to this kind of complaint because they were very understanding and offered to replace it with another dish free of charge without us having to ask. We replaced it with the 农家小炒肉. They even let us cut in line of another table who came later so we wouldn't have to wait for them to cook the new dish from scratch and could eat it together with the rest of our meal. 农家小炒肉 - It was pretty good. The meat was very tender and the dish overall was flavorful. The only thing that I'd ask is for the chef to leave out half of the oil when plating. It'll look more appetizing. Rice is $1 per single-person bowl/portion. I highly recommend getting it if you're dining in and getting spicy dishes. The rice isn't anything special and you can definitely forgo it if you're getting takeout and don't mind cooking your own rice. The service was superb! Everyone was super attentive, very polite, and super understanding!

But the reviews were suspiciously glowing, so curiosity (and hunger) won. We pulled up and I took one look at the building: older, unremarkable, zero curb appeal. Classic "meh." Inside, several large round tables with lazy Susans, red tablecloths, and Chinese lanterns. They first sat us in a booth but I requested later on to be moved to a large round table since we ordered A LOT. But back to when we first sat in the booth - As a Chinese woman, the second I spotted the older seats with ripped upholstery, it hit me like a culinary prophecy: this place was going to serve me some incredible, authentic Chinese food. I don't know what it is, but there's an inverse law of Chinese restaurants: the less fancy the exterior (and the more the booth looks like it's survived several natural disasters), the better the food. Apparently they skip Instagram-worthy renovations and put the budget where it belongs--on the plate! This is now hands down in my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurant in North Dallas - I can even say it's on the very top. I haven't forgotten about the staff. They deserve 10 stars. Super nice!

We ate egg rolls, crab Rangoon, and soup, followed up by orange beef and beef fried rice. The crab Rangoon could have used more stuffings, but what was there was good. We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., and surprisingly, we were the only customers there, considering it was peak dinner time. We also discovered that we needed to pre-order the duck in advance. Luckily, the lady informed us that there was one available for us, but it would take about 30 minutes. We ordered the crispy cucumber salad, xiao long bao, and the dry-fried string beans. The dry-fried string beans were my favorite. The string beans had a delightful crisp texture and a flavorful taste. The cucumber salad was also good, but some parts were a bit soggy. The XLB skin was too thick and chewy, and it didn't taste like the usual soup dumplings, which was disappointing. I was excited for the duck, but I was honestly disappointed when it arrived. The portions were quite small, considering it was a whole duck. It wasn't carved tableside, which was a letdown. Some parts of the duck were dry, and the skin wasn't crispy enough. To add to the disappointment, they charge extra for almost everything. If you want more pancakes or their homemade duck sauce (which tasted like black bean sauce), you'll have to pay an additional $5. Another thing to note is that they are BYOB, so you can bring your own alcohol. However, the menu pictures on Yelp are outdated, and they only offer whole Peking duck, not half orders. Overall, the food was just okay, and I'll probably try a different spot when I'm in the mood for duck again.

One of the best preparations yet. The Singapore noodle combo and Xao Long Bao did not disappoint... More importantly, the service we received was attentive, courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt. Sadly, the eggplant with garlic sauce is the ONLY reason a star is withheld for this review...it detracted from traditional Chinese style; notes of garlic eviscerated by the chef's sweetening to satisfy an American palette...Why fix something that's unbroken?...I get it. The restaurant has to cater to its customers who populate this mix use (business/lease residential) area at the NW corner of Alma and Hwy 121, but doesn't that limit its draw? Guess we'll just have to head either further south on Central (HWY 75) to the Legacy & Spring Creek areas or further west to the Preston and Warren Pkwy Frisco TX area to satisfy our authentic Chinese cuisine food cravings.
