My friend and I got the House Special Soup Dumplings, green beans, Three Flavor Pepper Chicken, and the Beef Biangbiang Noodles. All the food had amazing flavors so I would recommend everything. My only note was the beef in the noodles was slightly chewy so I would suggest another protein option. The service was great. Our server was patient with us while answering our questions on the menu and knowing the menu well enough to recommend us things that suited our palettes. The restaurant is spacious with many tables to accommodate different size parties so it did not take long for us to get seated. read more

I really wanted to like you. And thankfully-- I do! I did a lot of research during our road trip as to what places I want to visit when we came up to Dallas. This is close enough, that I'm considering it Dallas. I liked everything we've chose. Soup dumplings- Xio lao bao and the pan fried dumpling were both delicious and surprisingly something that my children actually wanted to eat. This is more of an authentic restaurant, and so they don't even offer a french fries (childrens go-to food). So I was pleasantly surprised that they liked the dumblings enough to eat them all. The crab cheese puff was good, but the beef burrito was absolutely delicious. If choosing between those two- I would go for the burrito. The three pepper spicy chicken was also very good, and we especially liked the bang bang noodles with beef. It was a fun twist to have scissors and I love a location that makes their own noodles so that was fantastic. It would be great if we had them down in Houston. The only thing that I didn't love was the customer service. They we're not attentive, and I had to keep asking for things like straws for the cups, napkins and other basic things that you think they would bring out on their own. Overall, I'm not docking off any more stars because we were just grateful to have halal chinese options. read more

My wife wanted to try this for our lunch today, especially since our GOTO for Chinese changed ownership/service/flavor... We ordered: Cumin Lamb (side: fried rice); Singapore Noodle Combination (chicken/shrimp/beef); Eggplant w/ Garlic Sauce (side: steamed rice); Okra w/ Giant Oyster Mushroom (side: steamed rice); and Xao Long Bao (6 pcs). WOW! The braised okra with giant oyster mushroom positively SURPRISED and leap frogged to the top of my preferred vegetable GOTOs...The cumin lamb was SO tender and VERY flavorful. One of the best preparations yet. The Singapore noodle combo and Xao Long Bao did not disappoint... More importantly, the service we received was attentive, courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt. Sadly, the eggplant with garlic sauce is the ONLY reason a star is withheld for this review...it detracted from traditional Chinese style; notes of garlic eviscerated by the chef's sweetening to satisfy an American palette...Why fix something that's unbroken?...I get it. The restaurant has to cater to its customers who populate this mix use (business/lease residential) area at the NW corner of Alma and Hwy 121, but doesn't that limit its draw? Guess we'll just have to head either further south on Central (HWY 75) to the Legacy & Spring Creek areas or further west to the Preston and Warren Pkwy Frisco TX area to satisfy our authentic Chinese cuisine food cravings. read more

Chef Sun's Noodle & Dumpling - (L-R) Cumin Lamb, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, braised Okra with Giant Oyster Mushroom, Singapore Noodles Combination, Xao Long Bao - Chinese Near Me - Plano, Texas

Chef Sun's Noodle & Dumpling is a Chinese restaurant in Plano that serves traditional Chinese cuisine and very plump soup dumplings. If you live in the area, it's a quality spot to get your soup dumpling fix. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, the first thing I noticed was Chef Sun's was very busy (great sign). The restaurant itself wasn't very memorable, and the table we sat at was next to a drink fridge and lots of traffic. 1/2 Star. Service - The staff at Chef Sun's was great, especially for a busy Chinese restaurant. The staff proactively kept our glasses full of water and were always on hand to help. Once we placed our order, food just kept coming from the staff as each dish was brought out piping hot and fresh. 1 Star. Food - The Xa Long Bao (soup dumplings) were nice and plump, freshly cooked and super-hot. This was the best part of the meal. The traditional Chinese dishes like their noodles were all a bit oily for my taste. Thee two appetizers - fried shrimp (very safe choice) were crispy without being greasy and the red dipping sauce was more sweet than spicy. And the spicy edamame was good. Overall plenty of good, but nothing super memorable. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Only if I'm in the area and I want soup dumplings. Chef Sun's Noodle & Dumpling has some oily noodles and great dumplings. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here, but now that I know they exist, I'll stop by next time I want soup dumplings. 1/2 Star. read more

I'm doing an update since the last review. Nothing bad, just some observation. The food is always good here except how the salt and pepper shrimp is prepared. I've noticed last time I was here back in July, shrimp were fried with batter like Long John Silver, so I pointed out to the server(My favorite dish is salt and pepper shrimp)that shrimp should be fried light and crispy and not like this with thick batter. She agreed. When I came here tonight, shrimp were fried the same as back in July. I love the vegetables they cook with the shrimp(onions, green onions, cilantro, shredded carrots and fresh jalapeños). I love eating them with steamed rice. I didn't complain, but maybe next time, I'm gonna order the vegetables only and have them charge me for whatever. My server was very nice and attentive. She even gave me extra mango tea the second time, bc she said she made too much. Btw, their fruit tea is absolutely delicious. I've only tried their mango tea, but they have other fruit tea flavors as well. I got there after shopping at Krogers and it was after 8pm, but there were several customers there and lively ambiance. This is one of my go to Chinese places to eat!!! read more

This restaurant is AMAZING. This time around, I got the biang biang noodles, salt and pepper tofu, and green beans. Everything was so delicious! I've also had the steamed veggie dumplings which I highly recommend as well. I also tried out the chocolate bao for dessert since I've been eyeing it on the menu and it was the perfect treat for my sweet tooth. read more

I have a kidney stone and they made the most delicious steamed vegetables with low sodium white sauce for me . My partner Lee had the shrimp lo mein and loved it. Both dishes were ample and meant for sharing but we both polished off our orders. Don't forget their piggy buns that have either custard or red bean paste fillings . A 5 star experience read more

This is my first time at Chef Sun's Noodle and Dumplings, and if I lived closer, I would be here once a week. I got their fried veggie dumplings, and they were amazing, so flavorful and packed with veggies, and even though they were fried, they still had a yummy consistency. For my entree, I got the salt and pepper fish, the veggies were seasoned perfectly. The only critique I have is, I wish that the veggies and the fish had the same flavor, because the veggies carried the fish a little bit, but I could tell that the fish was cooked fresh and it was a very good serving size. My husband got the lo mein noodles and enjoyed them thoroughly. My daughter got the steamed beef dumplings and the Chicken fried rice. She enjoyed both of them, but she loved the dumplings. The meat in the middle was so tender and she loved the consistency of the steamed dumpling. 10 out of 10, wish I lived closer. But this will definitely be a treat whenever we are on this side of town. read more

Great food and service. The atmosphere is pretty good. I went on a Friday night and there was no wait. We ordered the stir fried green beans, chicken fried rice, colorful dumplings, and soup dumplings. The green beans were perfect, both in taste and texture. The fried rice was quite good, a little heavy on soy sauce, but still very delicious. The soup dumplings were very good, filled with 5-spiced soup and delicious pork. The colorful dumplings were very interesting. I am happy that I ordered and tried them, but I feel that their more normal dumplings may be better. I will certainly be returning. read more

Partner loves dim sum, so we came here for date night. We got the green beans, chicken fried rice, the colorful dumplings, and some pork soup dumplings. I'd say the dumplings were creative and I don't regret getting them, I don't think I would again. There was also a musky taste to the soup dumplings that wasn't terrible but was unexpected based on previous ones I've had. The chicken fried rice was good, but a bit heavy on the soy and lacking distinct amounts of egg. The green beans were the star of the show for me, and I really liked them and would order again a thousand times over. The service was attentive and quick. We got all of our dishes within 10-15 minutes with the fried rice coming out in less than 5. I would return here and focus more around the regular dumplings and maybe try some other options! read more

We've been here a couple times and it's been good majority of the times. We always get their string beans (m11) and I would say the first few times getting it, it's great. Lots of flavor, string beans were cooked really well, and overall, really tasty vegetable dish. However, the reason for 4 stars is cause of the consistency of the dish. The most recent time we ordered it, it had less flavor and less of the seasoning. The string beans weren't as soft either, which was disappointing. :/ Beef stir fry was very flavorful, on the other hand, and it wasn't spicy. It had a bit of that "ma-la" (numbing and spicy) flavor, but it was tolerable. Overall, I do recommend this place! Servers are great and attentive. I just hope the next time we come, the string beans are back to it's original way. We order it every time we come and it would be a shame if we had to choose another vegetable dish to try out. read more

Overall a decent place to go to in the area but not my favorite Asian cuisine spot. My favorite item was the general tso chicken but the only downside is that the pieces of chicken are HUGE. If possible I would request them to by cut into smaller pieces so that it is easier to eat but the flavor was definitely there. I also like that they offer a dumpling sample option on their menu so that I could try a bit of everything before ordering a larger portion. I'd come back if I was in the area but wouldn't make a 30min drive out for it. read more

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Had the garlic green beans and a large bowl of hot and sour soup. Both were delicious and quickly delivered to my table. Delightful staff. Always friendly. Ready to use a Door Dash gift card,I spun the Yelp Wheel and it landed on Chef Suns Plano Tex location. Piling on copious items from the delectable sounding menu,I couldn't wait for my delivery. I was advised of a 30 minute wait time and to my amazement,I was handed my Chefs Suns Noodle and Dumpling order Right on time. Noodles, dumplings, schezuan beef, all arrived piping hot and orderly. I was super happy with the way the food was packed. I didn't eat right away so the sack sat on the counter about an hour. To my amazement, opening the sack and removing the items, all were still warm. From the sauteed string beans to the desert balls, all the food was excellent. I just discovered there's a location closer to me which I'll gladly try next time and you too should... Go! read more

One of the better spots for delicious food around DFW! I can't wait to be back. Came here on a Friday night and ordered the Biang Biang noodles with beef, the Rainbow Dumplings, and the Shrimp Dry Pot. The dumplings! EVERY. SINGLE. DUMPLING. was spot on. The noodles had a great chef and had a great balance of flavor. The dry pot wasn't my favorite, but also not bad. Our server offered these delicious pumpkin shaped desserts. I couldn't get over how cute they looked. Honestly can't wait to be back and try more of their dishes. read more

I was really excited to try Chef Sun's Dumplings since it's a halal restaurant because my parents eat halal, so we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was a pretty disappointing experience. The service was rude and it honestly felt like they were too tired to serve us. We got the dan dan noodles which had no flavor at all, just cold noodles and beef on the side. The beef soup was bland, and the dumplings were just okay, nothing special. The Chinese beef burritos barely had any beef in them and the taste was meh. The only thing we actually liked was the Singapore noodle, which had a decent flavor. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place, especially with how many better halal spots there are around. read more

FOOD Colorful Dumplings: All were so delicious. The colorful dumplings come with multiple fillings, including vegetable, chicken, beef, shrimp, and pork. All of them were moist inside and cooked perfectly! Biangbiang Noodles: these are must try dish at this location. The biangbiang noodles are literally my favorite dish here. It taste so amazing with the vinegar. The noodles are the perfect bouncy texture and it has the pan-fried flavor. Xinjiang styled Beef Noodles: also delicious with the veggies which were crunchy. The beef was cooked to be tender and yummy!! VIBES This restaurant definitely gives traditional family restaurant vibes. They have wooden booth seating as well as table seating. The tables are large, which are perfect for family style. Lighting was on the dimmer side, but there is also a good amount of window lighting. SERVICE Service is great! All the food came out quickly! They also checked in to see if the food tasted good. No complaints about service. read more

I haven't had Chinese food this good in years! This place is a total gem. They've removed all pork items from the menu and brought in halal meat. We went on a Sunday early evening and it was super busy, which is always a good sign. The restaurant is a bit small isn't small, but can't hold the crowd that wants to come in. I do wish it were more spacious for that reason, but honestly, it wasn't a big deal and probably a good issue to have. It was clean, the setup was nice, and the decor was really well done. What really stood out to me, though, was the amazing staff. Every server we interacted with was incredibly friendly and helpful. They took the time to suggest items and made us feel really welcome. Such a great team! The food itself was just on point. Everything seemed freshly cooked and came out in good time. Every single dish we ordered was delicious, nothing missed the mark. The older and objectively more attractive (but not handsome) older brother to their McKinney location, this is where it all began and where you'll find the best version of their house recipes. Staff are super friendly and although there is often a small language barrier it's not led to any mistakes and barely affects the meal. I've gotten worse service from my born & raised friends at Red Lobster. The menu is something worth exploring as it's not only a feature of the Northern Chinese cuisine, but I also believe some dishes are simply not worth getting in comparison to other. Biang Biang Noodles are a must try even without a protein added and if you want the spice, I'm going for the Double not the Triple. This is always what I love to see with halal restaurants, a local Dallas spot opening their doors to as many communities as possible and the result being a great spot I would definitely recommend you try! read more

We ordered two appetizers and two entrées, but everything came out at the same time, over 25 minutes after we asked our server for an update on our food. To make matters more frustrating, several tables that were seated after us received their meals before we did. The timing and service were disappointing, and the overall dining experience suffered because of it. read more
