The atmosphere is nice and dark, and I felt the pricing was competitive for the options in the area, with $28/person the base AYCE price. I felt this had more than enough options to satisfy, but there is an upgraded option. Bf and I got the best of both worlds broth, allowing myself the classic and bf the spicy. There was a large, well stocked buffet bar full of ingredients, from vegetables to fish. I found most of it tasted slightly old, but not enough to put me off. Our real complaint was service, being that my bf's choice of lamb meat was forgotten for a long period of time before being brought. Let me start by saying I've been a Happy Lamb customer since before the dawn of time (when they had a different name). I visit Happy Lamb 3-4 times a year and always on my birthday, as it has traditionally been a guaranteed slam dunk. At least it was at the Arlington location. This is my second visit in many moons at the Plano location and yowza, I should have known I was in trouble when the manager on duty was crouched and smoking a cig outside when I walked in. His attitude was harsh, non-helpful, and flat out rude. What on earth had I done wrong? My 10 year old son and girlfriend ordered the split hot pot (half spicy, half not) with beef and we basically did....everything. Laugh it up that this is a borderline self-service place, but no drinks refills, no water refills, and flagging down to order another round of meat. Somehow our total was $150.00 at 3:00pm on an idyll Tuesday for two adult orders, one child, three sodas, and one bottle of wine. I should have checked the receipt before I signed, but Little Sheep (ahem, Happy Lamb) has never done me dirty before. If you want the best hot pots in DFW, Happy Lamb is the place...but in Arlington. I hated I wasted my money, time, and gas to drive to this unfriendly and uncomfortable place that the staff made baaaaaaaad (unhappy lamb sound). Get some new management PLEASE. read more

Happy Lamb Hot Pot has been one of my favorite spots for years and it never disappoints. The original base is always so flavorful and comforting. I really like that they recently added a self-serve setup for most items except meats. The side dishes and sauce bar are easy to grab, and I love not having to wait for things to come to the table. Happy Lamb makes me.. happy! It's hot pot and it's all you can eat. There's different tiers you can opt for depending what suits your fancy but tbh just the basic one is enough for me. They aren't stingy about their meats like some places - these are not paper thin cuts like some other restaurants will do you. I've even had to tell them I only want half an order of meat before just because I was afraid they'd give me too much. Seafood selection is ok, they've got muscles, some kinda fish fillet, shrink and some crab. Fish and meatballs galore and more vegetables than I'm willing to try. I appreciate them having a hot bar with things like fried rice and chicken wings as well as some stir fried dish to keep kids away from the boiling pots. The wings are pretty bomb though if you can get some as soon as they come out. Only criticism I have is that the sauce bar area gets kinda messy - you gotta reach pretty far to get some of those sauces and some people just make a mess. I wish they would tidy it up a little more often when it's busy, but otherwise always a pleasant experience at Happy Lamb. They have some birthday discounts too which is kind of cool. $27 for all you can eat hotpot on weekends. Their sesame paste and their soup bases are all pretty salty. Their chicken strips were cut very thick. Service was ok, but we did have to occasionally get their attention for drink refills. Very dim inside, and the bar place probably didn't have A/C turned on because it was lunch hour. They have happy hours for drinks though. We went to another happy lamb in Houston, and they had free soft drinks, whereas this place charge like 3 or 4 bucks for a soft drink, so I guess each happy lamb is different. Their ice cream machine produced slurries, which was a bit disappointing, and was way worse than the individually packed ice cream bowls at Houston. read more

The silken falls apart in the broth. The cod fish was fresh and quite good when dipped into my handmade sauce. Bok choy and Chinese cabbage were fresh, tasty and made a great choice for hot pot as well. The taro was good but it took too long to cook. Service is great too. Service had some language barriers and they were rude to my mother when she ask if they charge for sauce. They said and I quote, "Can't you see the sign over there?, it's above you!". Delicious hot pot in Plano area! We always go for the AYCE option and make it worth it. Dinner and weekdays are $24.99 per person. There are a couple of items on the menu that are paid items which we don't really care for. If you'd like to get dipping sauce from their sauce, it's $0.50 per person, which you must. The meat is fresh - we love the natural prime lab. Marinated garlic beef is too but one of our batches was a bit over seasoned. Vegetables are clean and fresh - go for tong ho, bok choy, and Napa cabbage. Their fried buns are good as well but be careful not to consume too many of those because they will fill you up pretty quickly. Broth: We like half and half. Having all spicy can be a bit overwhelming so we like to cook food in both to balance out the heat. Service: I read lots of reviews about bad service but it was completely different on our visit. Our host and server were very nice, helpful, and attentive. The food broth and first round of orders came out in less than 15 minutes. They also checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were doing OK, and refilled our water without us asking. They also offered us complimentary desserts in the end - mango pudding is refreshing and vanilla ice cream with diced bananas is ok. My darling recommended I come here after mentioning not being able to find anyone else to go with me to hot pot or kbbq places. He told me I can eat there by myself if I can't find anyone else. My first time at a hot pot was great! I got three meats (mostly beef and the pork belly), lots of veggies, shrimp, and squid. I got the regular and the mild broth? A bit of dipping sauce. I can't forget the honey Jasmine tea (not the exact name but it was along those lines). I got full so I didn't finish. Honestly, the best food I've had in a while. This place is a Gem, we found it by mistake we didn't know what are in for but we fell in love. The stocks are yummyyyyy we like to do a combo of spicy and regular. Everything you order to cook in your stock is super fresh. My personal favorites are the meatballs the meat filled dumplings and the garlic beef. Add some veggies and your favorite noodles and you are set. There is all you can eat option or a la carte. We prefer a la carte as that way we get to take what's left home. I came here three times when I visited Texas! I love hot pot! This place is so amazing and great value for all you can eat! Their beef and pork belly is so delicious. They also have fried buns which I couldn't stop eating either. I love that they have fried rice on deck too. Make your own sauce is also amazing even though it's .50 extra, but you can concoct your own special very flavorful sauce! I will say, I ordered rice twice and twice they never gave it to me, but on the third time they finally gave me white rice. Each time I asked for white rice, they pointed me towards the fried rice which was a fine substitue honestly. I think the soup base here is good, it's a little TOO flavorful. I feel like it could use less powder if that makes sense. The soup doesn't really take in the meat flavor well. My favorite part about Shabu is at the end you can eat the soup, but I didn't feel as satisfied here? But don't get me wrong, I love shabu and this place is really good! I think the staff could be a little bit more friendly or warm and the soup could be a little better. Other than that this place is a must go to for AYCE Hot Pot! Lol) I am sad that they didn't have the king oyster mushrooms but they did have bamboo hearts. The fried rice was very hard and they didn't refill it for a really long time. I visited on a Friday night with 5 people and the wait was about 10minutes with 3 tables in front of us. The place was lively. The service is efficient and all servers are very welcoming. You order the sliced meats with the servers and the vegetables, sauce bar, and cooked for are all self-service. The only additional charge is $1/person for sauce bar. I loved the beef short plate (beef belly) and the fatty lamb. They were very rich and tender. The soup bases here are incredibly flavorful as well. I would love to come back! read more

The meats here are actually quite good. Beef was unexpectedly tender even though it was thick. There is staple served at the buffet line for the kiddos or those like me who need rice with my hot pot. Their fried sweet bread is a must-try. Aside from that, not terribly much to comment on as far as their food goes. Their sauce selection is pretty standard. There are also assorted other hot pot type foods you can grab at the buffet line. A few things to note. These "extra" charges are all clarified upon arrival either from our host or our waiter/waitress. If not, highly suggest you simply ask and get that sorted out before you start eating. Agree the gratuity was quite high but when we boil it all down, the pricing is on par with other all you can eat hot pot places. I can sympathize with those who may've feel they got screwed here but just understanding what you're getting into goes a long way. The host or owner or whomever is the guy that apparently has the answers.. can be a bit blunt and, taken out of context, rude. But it's just his style or thing I guess. I don't know that he's intentionally rude so grow a thick skin and don't take it personally. We had a happy lamb hot pot when living in seattle - yet i never tried it. Fast forward a few years and I now live in texas. Am i crazy for wanting hot pot during the hot texas summer? Maybe. But i am SO glad i found this place on yelp and was able to give it a try last week! Let me start by saying I've had good hot pot, i have had bad pot, and some in between. The price for the all you can eat option cannot be beat! $25.99 for friday & weekends and I believe $22.99 for weekday lunch. You can order all the veggies, lamb, beef, a few seafood options, dumplings, and even a few select appetizers you want! They also have a sauce bar you can go to and mix up your own dipping sauce. Other hot pot places will charge you for access to a bar like that...but not happy lamb!! We chose half and half broth, regular (i think it was pork or chicken broth based) and then a spicy sour broth which wasn't really spicy but it did have a slight sour note to it which i liked. I really liked the thin sliced lamb and marinated garlic beef, pumpkin, and bok choy. My husband was a fan of the fish balls and the lamb too. Next time we know to go straight for the lamb in our first round! I saw so many reviews about terrible service...but on a sunday afternoon around 2pm the restaurant was fairly empty and we had AMAZING service. The staff frequently checked in on us and one waiter even offered to make us some sauces from the sauce bar! He made us a spicy sauce and mild sauce and it was so tasty. That was VERY nice of him to do and I feel he went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and give us the best experience! We used to love this restaurant back when it first opened and had paper menus with a la carte and all you can eat options. It seems that management has changed because now it's only all you can eat and there's a not well kept toppings bar. The noodles all clump together and foods are routinely slow to come out to the bar. The menu also significantly decreased in size- we used to enjoy veggie options like watercress but they no longer have them. When we received the bill, we were shocked. They provide a misleading receipt which includes 20% gratuity automatically, and charged us for 5 all you can eat meat portions when we had only ordered 3. Sad to see management deteriorate after around ten years of enjoying their food. We will not be returning :( read more

COME HUNGRY! If you have never been to a hot pot restaurant before, this place really does have it all. The staff is knowledgeable and they advise you on what to order if you've never been before, and the quality of the meats and veggies are great. I've been to this location several times, and it has been consistent across the board. I would highly recommend getting some sauces from the self-serve station at the back of the restaurant. (The garlic is awesome!) In regards to the menu, order some of their fried chicken wings and fried bread. Both are great compliments to your meal. Warning though, the bread will fill you up! The spicy soup is fantastic, great for if you want something to warm you up in the fall and winter. If you're looking for a restaurant that is more interactive and where you get to cook your own food, they are great. Upon walking in I smiled and said hi only to be greeted by a mean mug of the host, lucky for me this host was my waiter too.
