I was so sad when I found out that Chinese BBQ (老江湖） came under new Xi'an ownership. A lot of popular dishes are gone now like hotpot and chicken-based foods, but they've added Xi'an cuisine. We came by on a Saturday around 3:30 p.m. Interior hasn't changed much as they just kept most of the previous owner's decor. They must have just reopened because the service was super slow. I think we waited nearly 30 mins to get all our food. Later they told us it was because they'd run out of the pre-made noodles during the morning rush and had to make more from scratch. With that being said, the food is pretty solid. We ordered Lao Tong Guan burger (老潼关肉夹馍), Handmade Mixed Beef Noodles (拉条子 三合一 牛肉), Original Soup Beef Rice Noodle (高汤肥牛米线), and Pig Trotter (卤猪蹄) on the digital menu. Both of the noodle dishes were really good - I can see why they ran out. The pork trotters were great. They gave us gloves. Unfortunately, this place has changed, and I really miss the old menu. My favorite dish -- the cumin lamb flat noodles -- is gone. The atmosphere also feels different. Before, the wallpaper and artwork on the walls gave it an authentic, artsy vibe, and the Asian music made it feel special. Now it's just plain white walls, and even my kids noticed they miss the Asian pop music.. The food was hit or miss. The new burritos had cold meat, though the takoyaki was okay. The handmade beef noodles seem to be replacing the cumin lamb noodles, but it's not quite the same. Thank God the service hasn't changed -- the same sweet lady is still here, and she's always very nice. That alone makes the visit feel familiar. read more

Used to be Sakura, then moved to this location and changed names to Chinese BBQ. When they first opened, it was ok, but after going back this year, this has become my favorite Chinese skewer place. You can scan the QR code on the table to order which makes everything easy. Some of my favorites are the beef, lamb, pork belly, beef tendon, chicken gizzard/heart, pork intestine, squid, oyster mushrooms, and more. For non-skewers, I like the eggplant (very garlicky and flavorful), spicy chicken sandwich (one of the best), the spicy chicken nuggets, and cumin lamb flat noodle. There wasn't anything I ordered that I didn't like. Everything was grilled, cooked, and flavored perfectly. This is a place I always visit when I go back to visit Dallas. I know that may seem strange, to get a fried chicken sandwich at a Chinese skewer place, but they really do make it well, very good crispy batter around a juicy piece of dark meat. Other than that, you can order to your table via QR code which is really nice. Their skewers are very good as well - about as good as any other skewer place around. We have not dined here over a year and the restaurant is under new management. They serve healthy and authentic Xi-An dishes. We ordered BBQ lamb (special promotion of $10 /8 skewers), dry pot fish, beef Chinese pancakes . They use good meat and fishes. The portions are generous that we were full after eating half of the dishes. All the hand-pulled noodles and pancakes are made fresh daily in the restaurant. Their slush drinks are yummy and with freshly made ingredients. The waitress and owners are very friendly. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

To put it short, Chinese street eats, and a good one at that too!! The BBQ here really refers to grilled meats, but as you can see, they put the meats on a skewer. One thing on how it works, they'll seat you, but you order using the QR code. They'll give you the check after you're done eating. I was a little confused at first cuz they didn't come to take my order. On the skewers, I recommend the lamb, beef (I prefer the small beef cuz it's easier to eat), and tofu skin. I would skip the chicken unless you're into that. The seasoning is the same for all, so really just what kind of meat you want. Moving on to more exotic options, apparently people also like to order the chicken cartilage. They didn't have it when I was there, but I'm not really into the whole texture-eating (some people love the crunch). I ordered chicken gizzard instead, which was good, but I guess I'm not into innards all that much lol They have some grilled veggies too. I think I ordered the A choy, which was really good! I already ordered too much food but the eggplant and chives were the other veggie options I considered. Other than the skewers, I heard about their fried chicken sandwich (yep, I guess we're still talking about that in 2023), so I got that too. I was actually pleasantly surprised!! I can't say if their chicken sandwich is the best as people have their own preferences, but the taste reminded me of fried chicken sandwich you get from KFC in Asia, which I LOVE! It's very crispy but also very juicy. Their sauce is also on point. I think it's definitely worth a try at least. They have even more stuff on their menu like noodles. I'll maybe try some of those next time. I really like the food I ordered; I actually over-ordered for sure but finished them all. Service is fast, and the place is fairly casual. Ahh I wish I took photos of it but I was so hungry. But I'm here to leave a good review for it. It's kinda hard to hear from his side for phone ordering but glad we made it work. I ordered a take out. It tasted so yummy, I personally think it tasted better than the one I went to in Seattle and LA (not all of them but a couple I went to). This place tasted more from china and the price was reasonable. The food was seasoned very well, the meat (beef and lamb) was tendered and I'm glad they left a piece of fatty meat in it. This place is a staple in the area. The cumin beef flat noodles are the best, and their enoki mushrooms are always seasoned perfectly. Their menu has a great selection of different foods, including a fried chicken sandwich that is actually pretty good, despite not being a Chinese dish. The QR ordering system is fine, although multiple people at the same table using it all at once can be a bit glitchy at times. This place closed for a while and apparently changed owners, so I'll have to come back to see what has changed. read more

Date night review. I usually chose hot pot, but my husband prefers BBQ and he found a new place to try. This is by far one of my favorites for Chinese BBQ in the Dallas area as far as food quality. The chicken and asparagus rolled in bacon were my favorites. My husband said the squid was his favorite. The service is the only reason I dropped a star. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. They met our basic needs but I would have liked to see more interaction and asking if we needed anything else. The ambiance is street-food casual ish. Really laid back and a come as you are vibe. Service is super nice as well. I like that you can scan your order and put it in the QR code. What I like best about this menu is it's a bunch of small Knick knacks to eat while hanging out and drinking beer. So you get to try a little bit of everything and stop whenever you feel full. It's been a while since I've been here, but this most recent visit they had QR codes at the table so you could order en masse with everyone in your group. Which is pretty cool and more relaxed for the servers, just make sure you remember which skewers were yours. If you have specifics they aren't split up. We were lucky that today was the first day they allowed dine-in. Since it's the first day, we were the only customers sitting at a table. My go-to spot for late night cravings! My favorite thing on the menu would have to be the Sweet Chinese Buns; sometimes they go too light on the sauce so there isn't enough flavor but the bread on its own is still yummy. I ordered one of their drinks not expecting much, but it was surprisingly good! I had a mango slush with jelly, topped with cheese foam. It was pretty pricey for boba, I think around seven or six dollars per drink. Other than that, the rest of the menu items are relatively affordable. I'd recommend getting the spicy chicken nuggets if you're looking for something cheap and tasty to really fill you up. The servers come out with orders pretty quickly, though the skewers always come out earlier than the other food items. The restaurant itself has a more casual vibe and is located in a plaza with other great options like a gaming café, a Korean-inspired brunch place (Cafe Hwasan), and a popular study spot (Sweet Hut). Though, out of whole plaza I'd say Chinese BBQ is the best place to go to if you really want to get your money's worth. read more

Initially a Japanese style restaurant, the establishment with their revamp, has taken a focus to bring Chinese-style BBQ skewers to the metro. Recently, more locations serving Chinese-style BBQ skewers have popped up, so I decided to give this place try on the recommendation of a few friends. If you're new to skewer/yakitori style dining, give this place a chance and order some of your personal favorites meat-wise. There is an extensive menu that will definitely let you find your go-to when coming here. All the skewers are seasoned with salt/pepper, cumin, white pepper, chili powder, and small peppercorns; overall flavor is good, majority of the meats are cooked to medium with a fair amount of juiciness. The fried dough had a crisp layer on the outside with a soft chewy bite through the middle. Fried chicken sandwich has a nice crispy breading on the outside, the inside very moist and tender (note: they use dark meat for their chicken sandwich). Sandwich itself was made with your typical burger buns, lettuce, tomato, and some mayo spread. Beef fried rice was made pretty well with simple ingredients of regular onions, green onions, beef, and eggs. Had a good flavor from the beef and soy sauce seasonings when it was stir fried. Love the place. We have been going to a different BBQ place and finally tried here and we loved it. They are well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Kids love the small beef skewers which were thin small piece of beef. My favorite was pork intestine, beef tender and cauliflower! I can come back just for those! Stopped by Sakura Cafe with a huge group after church a couple Sundays ago; we love Japanese food and were interested in trying it out. They were very gracious about accommodating our extremely large party (20+) and pulled a bunch of tables together along the booth. I ended up ordering their salmon special, which was six pieces of salmon nigiri and either a spicy salmon roll or a regular salmon roll; I picked a spicy salmon roll. The fish was pretty fresh and the spicy salmon roll was pretty standard fare - good rice to fish ratio, but small. I also tried my boyfriend's order of pork buns - they were heavy on the sauce and light on the meat - and his chicken curry bento. The curry was bone-in, so a little difficult to eat, and pretty spicy for some reason; the style was more Chinese curry than Japanese curry. It took us 30 minutes to find this place because they originally called "Sakura BBQ" located at Custer. I guess they relocated to this location. This is the BEST Chinese BBQ skewers I have ever had. We ordered the chicken sandwich because everyone raved about it, and it was a boom!!! The chicken was so soft, and it is the best chicken sandwich! Really casual dining vibe! It's located in the plaza where Ztao and sweet hut bakery are its neighbors. I will say that initially it was a little intimidating since the servers there spoke Chinese and assumed I was a native speaker. However, not a issue later when they realized I only spoke English back! Their version of bbq is lots of random grilled foods on skewers! If you are looking for a super flavorful place, this is one for you! The tiny beef skewers, squid and enoki ones are delicious!!! I also like that their spicy option isn't even too spicy!
