Buddha beer
Vlad V.

I've been to China Chili three times now, so I can safely say it's my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. On my most recent visit, I stopped by on a Friday evening for dinner. They have complimentary parking in the front, side, and back of the restaurant. There aren't a ton of spots, but there's street parking close by too. Ambiance (3.5/5): Like most Chinese restaurants, China Chili is pretty no frills. Which isn't a problem for me at all, I'm there for the food. It's a spacious restaurant with both regular tables and circular tables that rotates (good for large groups sharing dishes). Service (4/5): Fantastic service is also not something I expect at a Chinese restaurant. Yet again, I'm there for the food. With that being said, service, while not overly friendly, is typically pretty efficient. Which I always appreciate. Drinks (4/5): Pretty much your standard soft drinks, tea, and a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. My favorite option is their buddha beer which you don't see in a lot of places. It's a lager and it's in a buddha-shaped bottle. It doesn't get much better than that. Food (5/5): The first time I came was for one of my favorite dishes... Peking duck. There aren't a ton of spots in Phoenix that have it, but out of the ones that do, China Chili serves it at a high level. You can go with either crepes or baos (additional surcharge). The duck is absolutely to die for. Flavorful, juicy meat with crispy skin that fits in perfectly into your mini "sandwich" with green onions and Hoisin sauce. For a reasonable price too. Their food outside of duck is of a similar quality. I especially like their flat noodles with beef. Even classic dishes like sesame chicken have a twist here. It's sliced chicken rather than fully breaded chicken. Just as good as the typical way, the sauce is delicious. My only complaint? They give you a pretty small helping of white rice with your dish. Outside of that, the portions are generous. Everything I've had at China Chili has been a hit. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Garlic Green Beans with Fried Tofu

This review is for two take out orders. The first time I ordered by calling the restaurant, the second time I used Door Dash. Both experiences worked very. I ordered dinner the first time and picked it up and had it delivered the second time. I have now eaten the duck, three chow meins, rice, green beans, a vegetable dish, egg rolls and crab puffs. Every dish has felt clean and tasted clean. No chemical after taste, no excessive saltiness. I have been impressed with the food here.

We did take out here with a great assortment of dishes: Crab cheese puffs Peking duck with bao and plum sauce Tangy lemon chicken Spicy garlic eggplant Fried rice with vegetables Vegetable Chow mein House chow mein Peking duck was fabulous! Crab cheese puffs were excellent (just not enough of them). Loved the lemon chicken, and although I don't like eggplant, this spicy garlic was great disguising the eggplant! Both chow meins were yummy. Can't decide which one I liked the best. I didn't feel like a needed to drink a lot of water after eating which sometimes I feel like after Chinese food. That's a good thing. Definitely going to make this place a go-to for Chinese food!

Go-to Chinese comfort spot China Chili serves up Cantonese, Szechuan, and Hong Kong-style dishes in a classic, no-frills setting. I've been here for both lunch and dinner, but lunch is my usual, fast, easy, and always hits. My favorite: House Special Chicken (not spicy) -- yes, I'm a wimp but it's flavorful and perfect every time. Service is always quick and friendly, which makes it an easy go-to.

$100+ We called for take out dinner and I had been to this restaurant in January and the food was good so I expected it to be a 4 or 5 star experience. The best thing on our $127 (before tip- for takeout?) meal was the green beans... with the fried rice and orange chicken earning a 3 star. Everything else was not good with the worst thing on the menu being the sichuan beef not even edible. I wouldn't feed that to my dog. Nothing was spicy" and we ordered spicy for everything except the sesame chicken and the rice. The hot & sour soup was tasteless ... my husband ate a little of it but I ended up flushing what was left down the toilet. The crab puffs were flat... 6 of them for almost $9 ... stupid. This was disappointing. Then at the pickup they expect a tip with the minimum being 18%... wow. I'm being generous with the 2 stars.. my family says 1 is more like it.

Had lunch with some coworkers (about 7 of us) and we all had a lunch special. I chose the tangy chicken again (sauce on the side) it was soo good! Service was prompt and friendly. Love getting lunch here!! I hope to visit more often this year cause it never disappoints

This place has been staying steadily in business for awhile. And always busy when I am dining here. Spacious inside, with aquariums of fish and decor that let's you know you are at a Chinese restaurant. Staff is always helpful and fast. As is the food, hot and fast. Which is always an easy best to return. Their Kung Pao shrimp is always satisfyingly good. Jumbo prawns sauteed with dried chili peppers, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts and spicy Kung Pao sauce, then topped with peanuts. It comes with soup of the day and a vegetable roll, as this is their lunch special. Doesn't break the bank and tasty all around.

What a freaking gem. Came here for the first time and can genuinely say this is the best Chinese food spot in Phoenix, probably Arizona. Walked in and was immediately transferred back to the old school Chinese restaurants back east. We did the Phoenix dinner for 2 and substituted the pork for orange chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious. First came out the salad which was super flavorful and fresh. Fresh lettuce, noodles, amazing dressing and super tender chicken slices. It came with two wontons which were also soo good. Perfectly crisp and filled with a cream cheese stuffing that complimented the salad perfectly. Hot and sour soup was next and while that's not usually my favorite soup, it was great and had depth in the flavor. Then came our entrees, huge in size and definitely worth the price. The kung pao chicken had delicious flavor and veggies were perfectly cooked. The fried rice was not your average, it had chicken, shrimp and the most tender beef. The orange chicken was definitely my favorite. You can tell they use breast and the crisp on the outside was so perfect, sauce was sweet with a little kick, just perfect. Service was insightful, quick and friendly. I think my bf had his sprite filled at least 3 times and I was asked if I wanted another coke at least 5 The ambiance is authentic yet casual with Chinese art and tapestry on the walls, fish tank, etc. We will definitely be back.

We shared the Hunter Stew and the dumplings. We then fought over the last bite of cake Kievskiy. If you haven't tried this cake, it's a must. Soup and Sausage is a Ukrainian restaurant. They have flags and donation stations set up in the restaurant. So let's just say it is authentic. Upon entry it is a small restaurant with counter service. The menu is up above the counter but they also have menus printed out which I appreciate. The lady behind the counter was very nice. We ordered borscht and then we wanted pierogies. They have a few different options including potato, sauerkraut and sour cherry. The sour cherry ones sound really interesting. The lady told us each order came with 10 pierogies -- that seemed like a lot but I proceeded to choose 4 of the sour cherry and then the rest sauerkraut and potato onion and hte potato cheddar. Turns out (and i didn't know this until after) that the potato pierogies have chicken in them (I don't normally eat chicken but I couldn't taste it at all). Then after selecting the kinds she tells me they can only boil them since I got the sour cherry ones -- that didn't make sense to me but I said OK. After a 5-10 minute wait the food finally came out. First the borscht, which was so flavorful and deeply, soulfully satisfying. It was also heated up, which I always thought borscht was cold, but it was so good I didn't question it. Then the pierogies came out -- boiled. Hmmm, they were a little slimy on the outside. Sauerkraut one was really good -- the sour cherry was meh. We ended up bringing them home and putting them in the air fryer which improved them quite a bit but overall I was underwhelmed. I would like to see what they would be like if they weren't boiled. Overall, I was a huge fan of the borscht and when I need a deeply soulful and satisfying soup, this will be on speed dial.

This was our second visit to the Cornish Pasty Co. location on 32nd Street in Phoenix and our third…read morevisit to the restaurant group overall. We continue to be impressed by both the quality and creativity of their food. On this visit, I ordered The Pilgrim, which is essentially Thanksgiving dinner wrapped inside a pasty. It features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy. It arrived absolutely piping hot--seriously, give it a few minutes before taking that first bite--but once it cooled down, it was phenomenal. The combination of flavors was comforting and satisfying, and a little cranberry sauce with each bite provided the perfect balance. My only minor critique would be that the ingredients could have been distributed a bit more evenly throughout the pasty. I also found the gravy slightly more peppery than expected, occasionally overshadowing the stuffing, sweet potatoes, and turkey. Even so, this has become my favorite pasty at Cornish Pasty Co. We also tried the Peppered Steak pasty, which features sirloin, portobello mushrooms, leeks, zucchini, Stilton bleu cheese, and a peppercorn brandy cream sauce. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, especially the steak and the wonderfully flaky crust. For my personal taste, the peppercorn brandy cream sauce was a little more prominent than I prefer, and I found myself wanting more of the steak, mushroom, and Stilton flavors to come through. That's simply a matter of preference, though--it was still a well-executed dish made with quality ingredients. One thing Cornish Pasty Co. consistently gets right is the crust. Every pasty we've had has been flaky, flavorful, and substantial without feeling heavy. This wasn't our first experience with their menu. Over the years we've thoroughly enjoyed the Tikka Masala, the Lamb & Mint (which was a genuine "wow" dish), and the Royale. Those are all excellent choices, but after this visit, The Pilgrim has moved to the top of my personal rankings. Our two pasties came in under $20 each, making for a filling and satisfying meal at a reasonable price. We ordered takeout, and while there was a bit of a wait after we arrived, it's worth noting that these are made-to-order pasties, not fast food. Even though we only ordered a few minutes before arriving, the quality was well worth the extra time. My biggest criticism has nothing to do with the food. While waiting, my wife and I sat inside briefly, and we found the music extremely loud. During our visit, the restaurant was playing Silth, a progressive metalcore band. Musical tastes are obviously subjective, but the combination of the style and volume made conversation difficult for us. My wife eventually decided to wait in the car because it was simply too loud. The restaurant clearly aims for a lively pub atmosphere, with games available and a diverse mix of patrons enjoying themselves, so many people may appreciate that environment. It just wasn't a great fit for us. That said, the food is outstanding, the portions are generous, and we'll absolutely be back. We'll probably continue ordering takeout, but that's a reflection of our personal preferences rather than any issue with the restaurant itself. If you're looking for creative, well-made pasties with high-quality ingredients, Cornish Pasty Co. is definitely worth a visit.

I had to panic order, and ended up with the Chicken Greek. Regardless of it being the backup choice, it was still pretty good. I could see wanting takeout from here many more times if I lived closer. The drink menu was very interesting - I had the Oaxacan Pineapple and asked if it could be made spicy, and it was probably the best drink I'd had all week. Service was great and parking was easy. I've gotten their beef teriyaki bento box and it came with rice, salad, 2 piece California rolls, and 2 pc fried gyozas. The California rolls were ok, not bad. I would say it's 7/10. The bibimbap was very fresh and delicious but a little pricey ($18.95). The bulgogi was marinated very well and rice was super crispy inside the hot stone bowl. Seafood tofu soup was pretty good and not too overly salty. It was very flavorful and the tofu was very soft.
