As a Peruvian, I will say I am very picky on my Peruvian food. The lunch specials here are amazingly cheap. Went with the family and had a jalea, 2 orders of salchipapas, an aeropuerto, a lomo saltado, and a chifa combinado de pollo. So my nephews loved their salchipapa but lets be honest, you can't mess up hot dogs and fries. The jalea was ok, not the best and not the worst I've ever had. Chifa combinado was pretty bad and the aeropuerto was so dry. My nephews did not like it at all, and they will eat anything. I had the lomo and it was delicious. Definitely one of the best things there. All that food and we couldn't even finish it. We took so much home with us! Their portions for lunch special are huge and the wonton soup that comes with it was quite good too. I absolutely love their scallion pancakes! When the craving kicks in, I find myself here. The green sauce they give takes the pancakes to another level!! The service is great and the guy at the front always knows why I'm there. The only reason I deducted a star is due to the fact that they charge me when I ask for extra sauce lol. When saw this place I immediately knew I had to bring my mother. She always talks about how she misses Peruvian chifa. So I took her here with my the pickiest eater you will ever meet, my father. It's a small place but you can still comfortably fit a large group. A nice really casual spot. We were first surprised at the prices. Dirt cheap for large portions. Then, the food itself was really good. My mom had her tallerin saltado, I had of course arroz chaufa de camaron, my dad had this rice dish that was a mixture and rice but I can't remember the name right now. My mom's dish and mine were on point. My dad (who I'm not surprised) didn't like his. I tried it I was too fond of his either. I have to say i was extremely disappointed and will most likely not be going back. my first impression when i sat down was of a cheap diner, paper placemats with no table cloth and ugly red see through cups. as a seafood lover i first ordered the mixed ceviche as an appetizer..... it was horrible, i could tell that it was frozen seafood, and didnt taste fresh, the shrimp were not properly divined and cleaned (gross) not to mention 75% of the dish was red onion (for those that know peruvian ceviche, it should be 85% seafood 15% red onion) I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. i also ordered the lomo saltado, it is offered as steak or chicken but the waiter never asked which one i wanted. he brought me the steak, it was also horrible. it was extremely greasy and more french fires than anything, along with a side of tasteless rice. read more

I ordered chicken with tamarind, but it was literally sweet and sour chicken with pickled daikon, no trace of tamarind. And the combination of chicken and pickled daikon works really bad. My friends and I came here for dinner tonight and actually had a lovely dinner, the food was good and so was the service (we left a 20% tip). So fast forward to later in the evening, we suggested that a friend of ours order from them for take-out. We ordered noodles and two orders of fried wontons. The reason I'm giving a two star rating is because our fried wontons had NO meat. We opened almost every wonton and they each had no meat. We called immediately to complain and we had to explain ourselves several times, to several different people for them to tell us that they wouldn't return our money OR provide a new order because they "were closing." I've been here on three occasions and was finally compelled to share my thoughts. Being Peruvian, I am very critical of Peruvian restaurants. The food here is great.... when you finally get it! The place is severely understaffed and the couple of waiters are trying their best running from table to table. Sadly they can't keep up, and we ended up waiting 20 mins to finally place order, 20 for our drinks, and half hour for our food. This is certainly a great place for affordable Peruvian-Chinese food, but until the (cheap!) owner invests in some more staff, I will not be coming back. Oh, and DO NOT come on Sundays. Authentic peruvian chifa food at a bargain! I havent been to a chifa restaurant in years and when I found this spot I was beyond excited to come in and try the food. After going over the menu I was shocked at how affordable their food is. The only catch is that it is cash only. I ordered the tallarin saltado sam si, and sopa wonton. The dishes came out quick and I was given a very generous portion. I can't emphasize enough just how delicious it was. The food exceeded my expectations and I was more than satisfied. Like most limeños, I've been eating chifa (peruvian-chinese) since I started chewing. I moved to the US when I was 8 and always went to Chifa Jade in Paterson, NJ (which is amazing). However, since moving to the city I just never came across anything that compared till I came to Chifa in JH. Seriously.. their tallarin saltado (lo mein) is amazing and I'd say even better than my usual spot in Jersey. Hands down best tallarin saltado I've had outside of Lima. I went on a Sunday evening and there was a 30 minute wait so I got my food to go... it's serious chifa. So a co-worker of mine is Peruvian and I asked him for a recommendation for a Peruvian restaurant. I expected him to tell me PIO PIO in Queens, but he threw me a loop and offered a few places that he and his family enjoy. So I said why not and went to Chifa for lunch on a Friday. It was quite busy at about 1:30pm which is a good sign right? To my surprise, this was a Peruvian/Chinese joint. The guy in the front desk was Asian while the waiters were of Latin decent. Well enough yapping and here is what I thought: Atmosphere: The atmosphere was kind of nostalgic. It almost reminded me of the Miami Beach scene with its pink walls and blacked out ceiling. It was dimly lit but luckily the daylight is shining through the front window. Not to mention, hey were playing quite a number of 1950's hits too.. so I almost got the feeling we were in that era too. it was cozy and a little noisy, but not too much that you couldn't hear someone talking at your table. Wait Staff: Our waiter was took quite a while to come over to us. Although I did see other parties that were attended to fairly quickly. So i am going to chalk it up as they probably saw were were "foreigners" and thought we might needed more time browsing the menu selections. =) All the waiters were very nice and courteous from our brief interactions throughout our lunch. Food: Appetizer: We had Salchipapas!! Oh man.. i love this appetizer. Its a fast food dish commonly eaten throughout Latin America. Its origins are from Lima, Peru but im not here to give you a food history lesson. Go see Google for more info. =) Basically its thinly sliced beef sausages(hot Dogs) pan fried over French Fries with a dipping sauce. Its a must try or get. Entrée: I ordered Combinado de Pollo with Fried Rice - When this thing arrived, I was blown away at the portion. This could have feed 2 adults and I'm a big eater too. This dish also consisted of stir fried chicken meat and mixed Chinese vegetables over pan fried noodles. Its very similar to Chicken Chow Mein from Flushing/Chinatown.The down side was it was slightly bland. But I believe i know what they did that. Not everyone has the same taste buds and likes different amounts of seasoning. So they ingeniously bring over a bottle of soy sauce to each table when you order food. Then you can put as little or as much as you like!! What a concept!! =) The also came with a Soup(wonton) or a Soda. My lunch mate ordered Fried Chicken wings with a side salad and Fries. I didn't realize she told him Fries till her dish arrived since Salchipapas already had fries. I tasted the wings and they were really juicy and tender on the inside and the outside had a nice light crunch to it. I dont know if they had some kind of coating on the outside, but it was absolutely delicious to say the least. Drink: n/a Price: Well, the Combinado de Pollo was 5.75+1.00 for Fried Rice?!?!?! What an amazing deal!! The Fried Wings meal was 5.75 also.. Salchipapas was 3.50. Total for the meal was less than $16. You just cant beat that price for the amount of food you are getting. Overall: Chifa was a really nice gem to find. Decent food, awesome price and huge portions. its a winning combination that is keeping the customers lined up!! I definitely recommend at least trying it if you are on a budget and need lots of food. A friend from Peru recommended this place. I haven't tried to Chinese dishes yet but I did get the Polla a la Brasa for lunch. One whole chicken, plus rice and salad, for $11 (plus tax). Great price. Great taste. My 2.5 year old devoured it. It probably isn't as good as Pio Pio but it's very good. This restaurant is much closer to my house so we'll be going frequently. read more

Food is good but the Management is very poor. I went to eat with my son, I have to get up for less than a minute to get my son to the bathroom so when I came back my table was being clean, it wasn't even finished, neither paid. Chifa offers a wide variety of Chinese and Peruvian dishes. I was most impressed at the fact the dishes were not greasy, or full of thick starchy sauces like most chinese takeout does. I had many dishes and everything tasted very fresh. I was most impressed with the "Kam Lu Wantan". I just read all this mixed review about chifa, then I realized that I should try there once and make a fair opinion for their foods. I sit down there on a Friday night. They were pretty busy which I should had expected it. Upon looking at the Menu, I saw, " food you would not find anywhere else" which sound interesting. I ordered their most popular dishes with the help of the waiter. Then I pulled out my phone and started to google for Chifa and their food culture which was the fusion of peruvian and chinese taste. First came the Sopa Wantan, " wonton soup" It was a large portion. The meat was fresh, wonton was yummy and the chicken broth was quite original and tasty. It was a great soup. Then, came the Lomo saltado, which was a MUST TRY. It was a mix of french fries and beef mixed with some vegetables. It looks like a regular dish, but you will feel the smell coming out that make you want to grab your fork and start eating it. The first bite on the french fries was delicious, never expected that it would this good. I ended up eating the whole dish. I ordered the Pollo a la Brasa as well but, after eating those two dishes I had to give up. They canceled the order without any problem. Ohh, almost forgot to mention the CHICHA MORADA. It was refreshing and fresh. I believe that it was really made with real Purple corn. Finally the bill came. Yes, they don't accept credit cards. This a minus. However, the price of their foods is quite affordable. This is a PLUS! The reason I gave them a 4 stars is that I had a great dinner. Food, service and price was better than I expected. I heard from numerous sources that there was this particular person who kept ordering delivery and only tipping like 5 cents. I come here for Spanish chinese dishes. The taste is good ans prices very affordable. Is more like a take out type of restaurant.

They are so unprofessional they have people who answer the phone who don't even speak English or Spanish and then puts a Mexican on the phone to take the order that barley knows English. Redickulous on top of that I like literally only two blocks away from them and waited 45 min to an hour for my food each time when all I order is a lunch special , last time my food didn't even come with my soda and the man had to go back and get one for me ! I just left this venue. They are quick to take your order but not to bring your food out. Sodas were hot and took 3 asks to get cups of ice. When the food finally came out, it was cold. The appetizers came out with the food. I sent them back and they still did not bring either of the 3 plates back hot. They were warm/cold and for a plate like lomo saltado, it should be hot. No manager/owner in sight to attend us yet there was an asian man sitting in the front the entire time we were at this venue looking at a computer screen just taking care of the money. I prefer Sol on Northern Blvd & 88th Street or even the fast food location Casa de Pollo on 82st or 87th Street and Roosevelt Ave. for Peruvian Food or the Asian/Peruvian one on 60th and Roosvelt (Dont recall the name). Seriously a very lousy place with no structure. BTW the plate was 80% fries and 10% lomo. Be a concerned business owner, not a statue! read more
