    Papa Rellena. Alright
    Glenn C.

I went to this old Peruvian restaurant with a group a good while ago as per some of my recent reviews. I arrived a bit late so some of my photos feature dishes which are already partially consumed unfortunately. I'm unaware if there was any staff issues as I arrived late and someone else was ordering. I ordered a Chicha Morada to drink and it was solid version though it could have used a bit more cinnamon. Order the ceviche, anticuchos, or tallarin verde. The rest were OK. My favorite of the appetizers was the Anticuchos for $14 with grilled veal heart skewers marinated with aji panca with boiled potato and choclo. The hearts were cooked perfectly; tender with a little chew. The Tamal criollo for $7.50 listed as a traditional anatto Peruvian corn patty stuffed with chicken or pork was pretty tasty. We chose pork and the tamal was tender. Alright was the Papa Rellena for $11 or crispy potato croquette stuffed with beef. It could have been spiced a bit more and could have used a bit more beef. Best of the mains was the Fish Ceviche for $19 with raw basa marinated with lime juice with cancha. choclo, and sweet potato. The ceviche was surprisingly spiced which I enjoyed with a good texture. I preferred the ceviche from the similarly priced Amar in Forest Hills among other spots but it was good. They were out of the fried snapper so we got the Parihuela also for $19 listed as a tomato aji panca based seafood soup. This is available in large and small and I might get a small as an appetizer if I was to ever go back. The soup was alright with chunks of fish in a pretty murky broth which was bouillabaisse-esque though less flavored than said soup. It was solid but I preferred the ceviche. The Arroz Chaufa for $19 like the other entrees we ordered or Peruvian style chicken & beef fried rice was fine. The hot sauce was a bit necessary for flavor but the meat inside was pretty tender. I've had better but it was alright. We got a multiple sides otherwise. The Tallarin Verde or spaghetti in Peruvian style pesto for $12 is large enough to be an appetizer and was a well flavored version. I'd likely recommend steak with this as a main as this is available and would have been better than the Chaufa or Parihuela. The rest were smaller and fine. The Maduros/sweet plantains for $6 were an OK variant while the Yuca Frita/yucca fries for $5.50 were alright and we liked the Salsa Criolla or Pickled Onion Salad for $5.50 as it had a bit of heat and was slightly sour. The food quality was pretty good. It tastes like a homemade spot though I have preferred other Peruvian spots pretty heavily with some notably good dishes. If everything was as good as the ceviche (especially the mains,) I would likely be giving this place a 4 or 5.

The annoying- Urubamba is a Peruvian Restaurant in Jackson Heights Queens and we went on a Friday night so finding parking was very difficult! We walked three blocks, arrived and they were friendly , the place was small but nice and clean. We started with red sangria, was good, appetizers papa rellena, ( meat stuffed white potato ball) was ok. anticuchus ( marinated veal chunks / heart on a stick) it was very chewy a bit tough. For the main courses we had entraña saltada ( skirt steak with onions rice & french fries, the steak was tender. I had Macho which was shrimp, other seafood and yellow rice it was ok I can't say the food was horrible just average and I don't feel the need to return but if you're in the neighborhood and have a parking spot go ! Check your bill the 18% tip is already included!

It's a shame I haven't visited here before even though I've lived here for almost my whole life! Came here with a friend to catch up and so glad we came here! The restaurant highlights Peruvian food and does an excellent job with seafood. The paella was a big hit. The steak was ok - it didn't feel as complete as the paella, still good but felt a bit more flat compared to the larllwhich I can only rave about. If I only had to rate the paella would give 5 stars but then would be an incomplete since only tried 1 dish out of all the other dishes! Highly recommend the paella if you ever decide to come here! Very packed full of flavor and good texture.

I've been wanting to come to Urubamba for a really long time and it did not disappoint! I was so happy to see so many authentic Peruvian dishes and not just pollo a la brasa(Rostisserie chicken), they even have Helado de Lucuma, which is ice cream from a fruit only found in the Andeas!

Came as part of a 30 day 26 city food trip. Let me start by saying the food was delicious but everything else was not so pleasant. I was on a pretty aggressive schedule and rely on businesses to open when they say they would. Noon open and 1211 they unlocked doors. 3 customers left in that window of time as one called to no answer. As I was about to leave the door was unlocked. I was the only person there yet the server was on phone at the bar talking to bartender while I was trying to get my check. Felt very unwelcome. On the food side though... - [x] Anticuchos (Grilled Veal Heart Skewers Marinated with Aji Panca | Boiled Potato. Choclo). Skewers did taste awesome. Just with the experience was at least average

The restaurant was clean and spacious. Our server was extremely attentive, but not overbearing. The dishes came out in a timely manner. The ceviche mixto was really tasty and came in a nice portion, but could use more cilantro and more acid, but that's just my personal preference. The Papa Rellena was also really good, but I wish the side of onions were pickled, instead of raw. If the onions were pickled, this dish would've been a home run. The Anticuchos (grilled veal hearts) were cooked to perfection. I couldn't taste the marinade, but it was delicious nonetheless. All the seafood in the Pescado a Lo Macho were cooked properly. Nothing was overcooked, which happens pretty often with a mixed seafood plate. The spicy wine sauce it was cooked in was also very good. Every dish was cooked expertly, but nothing was spectacular. Overall, a really solid, enjoyable meal.

Everything tasted according to the wonderful exquisite old school Peruvian cuisine. Very friendly staff wonderful ambience

Had a lovely brunch‼ Excellent, attentive and friendly service by Leonardo. He is very good. I thoroughly enjoyed Chupe de camarone, Papa Rellena and Tres leches‼ The room was busy, nice music ( not loud) and above all- nice air conditioning to be in with brutal heat wave outside . Will def go back.

My partner wanted to eat something not Asian and I wanted to oblige. We had seen this place multiple times but, finally took the big step of eating there. Once you walk in you can tell this is place is a favorite for the locals and you soon realize the why. This place offers good food, service, and decor at a great price. Food: 4/5 I really liked the food overall, we ordered the Ceviche Mixto, Yucca fries, Seco de Carne, and Olluquito con Carne. This was my first time having ollucus potatoes and it was definitely different from regular potatoes. I would describe the taste closer to beets (earthy, not very starchy, and soft when cooked) without the staining juices. It went well with the beef and was nice platter. However, I am not completely sure it is something I want to get again. I really enjoyed the Ceviche! It was fresh, acidic, and served with hominy. It was bigger than I expected and was a nice sharable dish with my partner. Total damage with a small pitcher of sangria was (~$100) before tip. Service: 4.5/5 They are very attentive and made sure to check on us more than once. My only gripe is that I would have to ask them to refill my cup of water. I was having drinks and I really wanted to have something to pace myself. All in all, if you are looking for some authentic Peruvian food this is a great go-to. The staff is nice, prices are good, and they showcase authentic ingredients. Definitely a good casual weekend dinner stop.

Still feel the same way about this place after so many years! We came here on Saturday to celebrate our birthdays. We got there around 530PM and were seated right away after they checked our vaccine cards. The ambiance is always so cheerful and delightful. For appetizers we ordered two orders of anticuchos, a side of rachi and papa a la huancaina with a pitcher of chicha morada. And for Entrées, my parents got the jalea for 2, my husband got the lomo saltado and I got the chicken chicharon. Everything was delicious and that is exactly why we keep coming back!

I've been here several times over the years for authentic Peruvian breakfast. the food continues to remain consistent. My wife and I always share the breakfast special, and get bread on the side which is enough for us.

The food and cocktail were not commensurate with the prices. The Rotisserie Chicken was moist and tasty, and the portion was huge, but the green sauce was too spicy for me. The chicken stood well on its own. The filet mignon in the Lomo Salteado was not seasoned. It was so bland that not even the extra salt that I added could fix the taste, but the Yucca Fries were outstanding--especially when dipped in some green sauce. The Arroz Chaufa with Shrimp also let me down. It tasted like slightly rancid oil was used to make it. The shrimp did not taste fresh caught, either, and the chicken was pitifully dry. The Pisco Sour left a lot to be desired although the foam on top was decorated nicely! The place is large and well decorated with Peruvian masks on the wall. The waiter provided good service, and the owner was walking around the floor, managing the place, but I AM ONE AND DONE! I will not be back!

The friendly employee checked if I ordered from the kiosk, and I did. After 5 minutes or so, my order was ready and I took it to go. Dishes we've had include: - Half Chicken: $9.50; $10.34 with tax. The chicken and accompanying green sauce are above average; 4 stars out of 5. The chicken is flavorfully marinated and moist, and the green sauce has a little heat to it. - The Sampler: $16.99; $18.59 with tax. The most flavorful component of this dish was the chicken. The rice was on the mushy side. The ceviche was OK but the proteins didn't quite have the right textures. - Aeropuerto Special: $15.25; $16.60 with tax. OK; 3 stars out of 5. A mixture of thin lo mein noodles and rice with some roast pork, chicken, and shrimp. The dish seemed to have a decent wok hei, which was confusing because the chicken rice from the Sampler was on the mushy side. This dish would be much better with more proteins, and the wok hei suggests that the restaurant has untapped potential. - Papa Rellena: $8.95; $9.74 with tax. OK; 3 stars out of 5. Stuffed deep fried potatoes that seemed factory-made, instead of house-made. Atmosphere, Service, Other: The restaurant is casual, clean, and comfortable for dining in, with a mix of regular tables and booth-style seating. Those who choose to dine-in should order food at the counter, receive a number placard, and find a place to sit. Staff will bring plates, utensils, and later, one's food and drink; and will clear the table when your party is finished eating. Service is notably upbeat. Suggested tips are based on pre-tax subtotals, and start at an affordable 12%. Overall ticket time (the time between placing an order and having that order served) is reasonable. By contrast, Bayside Chicken Lovers often requires that orders be placed in advance to minimize wait time. The restroom is adequately maintained, but oddly pipes in music louder than in the main dining area. Simple Peruvian is a couple of storefronts away from Kora, which is a superb place for dessert afterwards.

Be prepared to wait a bit - they are THAT busy. I got there around 5:30pm on a weekday & there were already 5-7 people in the front area waiting for their orders. The Green Sauce! is good & Much better than their sister restaurant's. Balanced between savory with a bit of spice & herb. I enjoyed the spare ribs more than the chicken. They were super tender & a medium flavor. Would actually appreciate a little bit more marinade, but it was decent. The chicken was just okay, needed more marinating time/flavor. Rice was long grain & mostly moist & cooked well. Never a fan of place's fried rice - always lacking flavor & not moist.
