This place is just okay.. the chicken was good don't get me wrong it was seasoned well and moist but eh. We got in it was empty which usually is a sign because the place next door was packed but I wanted to give this place a try.. We wanted to get the chicken combo we were told 40 minutes it's fine I'll wait for some dope food.. We ordered ceviche and potatoes with the cheese base sauce while we waited. Ceviche could use more flavor.. but the potatoes were good.. It was annoying to me that I don't mind waiting for 40 minutes but when the waiter came back and asked what we wanted again it was almost like what why couldn't you just write it down because that slows the process down... We also def waited more then 40 minutes... We also noticed tip was already added to the gill which is very weird since it was only 2 of us and I have never heard of places adding tip to the bill when it's just two people..

Ordered the Lomo Saltado and was pleased and full. It also helped being the only customer, not wanting to buy lesser-value dinner at the US Open. Service was fast and friendly. Will return for other dishes.

I love the place it is completely renovated and it is super great the prices are super affordable to the public and the taste is better better than before

Food was decent not overly amazing. Reason I give it a 2 stars is they self added a tip to a dinner for two. Not even a party of 5, very unprofessional. I dont mind paying tip but that ticked me off so I literally logged on Yelp to review.

Ceviche with spicy lime juice, sliced red onion, giant corn, potato, and sweet potato ($9.95): must order!

After a broken foot waylaid my long-awaited trip to Machu Picchu, I attempted to console myself by hitting up the best-rated Peruvian restaurant in my neighborhood. And while being inside El Rincon Peruano wasn't quiiiiite like scarfing down some spit-roasted cuy in a roadside stall in Cuzco, I felt a little consoled by my meal here. The restaurant is in a diverse jumble of restaurants near the 61st Street subway station -- walking down Roosevelt Avenue is like walking through a meeting of the UN General Assembly. El Rincon Peruano is in an unassuming storefront and the place has a slightly awkward layout. Once you're inside, your eyes are aglow with the fluorescent lights and oodles of delightful Peruvian handicrafts (such llamas! such tapestry!). We were two of the only three people there on the evening we went, and they seem to have a robust delivery service. Our server was kind, attentive, and happy to explain things on the menu. We devoured the giant corn nuts that were brought in a tiny appetizer bowl and proceeded to order a bunch of dishes, not understanding that the food we'd signed up for would equal approximately 3 full meals for the two of us. Our server seemed pretty amused every time she'd bring out a new dish (and the kitchen moved quickly!). What we ordered: --Anticuchos ($8.95): this beef heart appetizer is always a favorite of mine at Peruvian restaurants, and these were meaty and savory, though not especially memorable. 3.5/5 --Ceviche de Pescado ($9.95): this was our favorite dish, mostly because we are fanatical ceviche lovers. The big chunks of white fish in a super-tangy lime juice and onion dressing with some heat = perfect and fresh. Don't miss this (or any of the other ceviche options); my mouth is literally watering right now thinking about it. 5/5 --Combo Limeno ($21.75): we got a half chicken, and it comes with a giant plate of rice+beans, a huge salad with some underripe avocado, a platter of steak-cut french fries with cut up hot dog (salchipapas), and green plantains (tostones) -- the chicken was EXCELLENT: juicy, fatty, flavorful, tender, with a great balance between the crispness of the skin and the moistness of the meat. Definitely don't miss the chicken, though I could have done without all of the sides, most of which were just "meh." 4.5/5 --Sangria ($6): this was... fine. It wasn't really noteworthy and tasted like mostly juice, so I probably wouldn't recommend it. 2/5 Overall, you need to try their ceviche and chicken. For one thing, these are pretty classic Peruvian dishes, and for another, El Rincon Peruano really shines with those preparations. The food is fresh, the service is friendly, and for the price, it's a real Queens bargain.

Will try the food today. Let's see. At first glance, it looks like a hole in the wall but that's ok. I will update this post. So here is my final review. Loved It! An I frills spot with great food. I will definitely be back and will be bringing guests to enjoy the fantastic food.

I tried the fried calamari appetizer, garlic noodles, garlic bread, Cap't Louis mild sauce with snow crab legs, shrimp, clams, scallops, sausage, and broccoli (steamed or boiled). Each bag already comes with a potato and corn. Scallops were fairly large. Snow crab legs were easy to eat and delicious. Clam shells were large, but not much meat inside. The seasoning was tasty and had a decent spice kick. The more pounds you order, the more sides you get. They have a list of market prices. They don't have alcohol, which seems like a missed opportunity. We would've loved to have a drink. It is nice to have a seafood boil option in that area. They give bibs, gloves, and a disposable dish. I wish the water was served in washable cups for less plastic waste. There is meter parking.

The ones we had been to in the past usually allows you to also pick different type of cooking style or seasoning but this place only cooks it their way. It's good for people who are indecisive but disappointing for people who want variety of flavor. They usually have a section of appetizers and drinks you can order on a separate menu as well. The staffs were very low energies when we visited on a weekend night. The overall ambiance and interaction made us feel a little uncomfortable. We ordered: - eggplant dip - fries - Greek salad (large) - cooked fish - calamari - octopus Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. It didn't taste as fresh and was overall too salty. The eggplant dip had a weird taste. Friend fries were not as crispy and unevenly distributed portions of salt. The calamari was nothing special. The fish was okay, and the octopus was so salty we actually sent back the dish. It was very difficult to enjoy it. The staff was so accommodating and actually took the dish off our bill. (Thank you!! - great customer service!). My favorite item was probably the Greek salad, but then again it's hard to mess up a salad. I would say this is my least favorite counter order style seafood restaurant in Astoria. My friend said great things about it prior to my visit and I really wish I would have liked it.

The menu is entirely in Spanish but the waiters can help if needed. We ordered the Gobernador taco, a half dozen shrimp, the regular guacamole and the aguachiles verdes. The Gobernador was a large size - really more like a mini quesadilla than a taco in my mind. It was flavorful and filled with seafood. The half dozen shrimp were cooked well, but a little hard and messy to peel. The guac was good, a little oily but tasty. The aguachiles were really good but borderline too spicy for me. The spice continued to build as I ate them and it did feel less enjoyable but it was good to start. My main grievance with this restaurant was how loud it was. I was yelling and struggling to hear what my friend or the waiter said, but the food was delicious. Maybe if it were less crowded it would be ok, but definitely not a great atmosphere for having a conversation.
