I dont know...I feel like this is just an ok place. I heard good reviews from coworkers plus Yelp has good review but I think it's just ok... Chicken is moist, never had dry chicken but it's a bit bland. Tacos are just ok. Salad is just ok. Everything is just ok. I wouldn't go back but my kids like the chicken so occasionally we go for the chicken. read more

The best Mexican food spot in MY opinion. Wish they were throughout the bay

Been going there for years but I was very disappointed tonite ordered other food but only 5 tacos they were put in a container two didn't have hardly any cheese on them and the rest were empty even taco one'll tacos are better those one I don't know if I'll go back again . Out laziness not wrapping the tacos individually they made mass out of it. We go there at least 2-3 times a week but after this not so sure. read more

$0.69 taco wednesdays... get in line! this place is awesome, but can get busy during the dinner rush. I like to go here when i'm not in the mood to cook. Their chicken is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, It's not dry at all. best of all, they have $0.69 taco wednesdays! And on every other night, its buy one get one free on the tacos. very good chicken! read more

Love the rotisseree chicken here! It's super flavorful, juicy and inexpensive. They don't have a complicated menu either. We normally get the combo meals or family dinners. An 8pc meal with 2 big sides plus tortillas, drinks and a few tacos is about $20. The taco's are $.69 and pretty good. The shell is crunchy, the chicken is tasty and the cheese is fresh. I'm not saying they're the best thing on the menu but for $.69... It's def a must-try! read more

If you want the most delicious chicken ever, visit Chicken Express. Rather than fried chicken, they have a unique rotisserie chicken style that comes out tender and juicy, never greasy, and full of flavor. And the best thing is they are extremely affordable! My favorite since high school has been their .69 (yes, that's 69 cents) tacos. In a crunchy shell, it comes with their famous chicken, pico de gallo and cheese (sour cream is extra). They also serve sides of refried beans, rice, potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, tortillas (corn or flour), and garlic bread. Taco salad, chicken burrito, chicken sandwich, and pieces of chicken are on the menu, as well as different size deals for family-style meals. Open late. Has a drive-thru. The Vallejo location serves breakfast. So good I've literally seen their drive-thru line out the driveway. Try the taco sauce! read more

I came here because of all the positive reviews on this place. It was okay, nothing spectacular. I've been here twice, the first time I just got the tacos, and what really could I say bad about something that costs under $1. They're obviously not the greatest, but they're not terrible either. Being as small as they are I could barely taste the chicken in them, so I wasn't able to really comment on that. When I told a friend that I wasn't fan, he told me to go back and get a chicken burrito. And, I admit this was pretty good. Still not great, but above average from anywhere else you could go of similar food. I would give it four stars, but the customer service was not all that good from the both times I went. The first time the guy who took my order seemed annoyed that yet another customer was coming through his drive thru. And the second time was just average, nothing great and nothing terrible. read more

Its like the REAL El Pollo Loco. Everything about it is great. They seasoned the chicken very well and its cooked really well- tendery, not dry at all. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that my tortilla were wrapped in plastic wrap; but at least its warm when I got it. The house salsa is pretty delicious! Must also get the taco sauce in the packets. That's the main reason why we go in read more

Good prices. Food is amazing. I love it and try to hit this place at least once every time I travel through here. only cons are that it is a small somewhat run down place, but if you eat at hole in the wall spots this is nothing. Love this spot! read more

Good place for chicken. Not too fancy but good to have a quick meal. Worth it!!

I like how this place is open late. They also have good fast customer service in drive thru. Never had any problem with my orders. I usually get 8piece chicken, spanish rice, pico de gallo and sometimes tacos. There is that 1 time when i got home and the chicken was burnt, dry over cooked but other than that its been good. read more

Check your food, just got 2 whole chickens and found maggots. Returned the food, bad service will never go back. Nasty

This is a spot that I've gone to since I was a child and when it was still called Chicken Spit. I've grown to love their buy 2 whole chickens, get the 3rd free because I've eaten it at many a family party. They're a lot of good things to eat at this establishment but the classics are the chicken tacos, chicken burritos, taco salad, and rotisserie chicken meals. I must say that this chicken is always better fresh and hot, it doesn't get better the next day like chicken from other places. The place has pretty much kept the same upkeep which is a little rundown but relatively clean, which is perfectly fine. The service is great as all the staff is friendly and helpful with you order and the menu is very easy to understand. They even had a drive-thru which is a good reflection of their growing success throughout the years. The value is still good but since they've grown in success, so have the prices, which isn't to my liking. The chicken tacos used to be buy one at $1.25 get one free, but now that price has gone to about $1.95 I believe. Again, you're still getting good value, but I never like price hikes in food. This is a place I'll keep coming back again and again. Scoring Breakdown: Ambiance - 10%, Food - 50%, Service - 20%, Value - 20% My score is as follows: Ambiance: 3.5 stars Food: 4.25 stars Service: 4.25 stars Value: 3.75 stars Overall: 4.08 stars = 4 stars read more

It has been years since I've last been to Chicken Express. It is like an El Pollo Loco, but locally owned. I got the two for one chicken tacos and took half of my mom's chicken burrito. Honestly, I think it's just an advertising ploy for those two for one tacos because it really just came up to be about $1.50 a taco, which is a reasonable price. However, it was really good. I haven't had a good crispy taco in a while. The chicken was soft and tender. The taste had a fresh feel to it. That hot sauce just amplified the flavors in my opinion. Now, that chicken burrito...man, that was good. The rice had a hint of lime in it. Everything in the burrito was a symphony of flavor. It reminds me of a chicken burrito from Chipotle. The big difference being it's a tad cheaper, and Chicken Express most likely does not use organic foods. On the other hand, who cares?! It is definitely a hole in the wall type place. Chicken Express has been in Vallejo for years. However the service was no fuss but fast. The food is really good, pending you like chicken. It's a must go in my book. read more

Great prices and tasty freaking chicken stuff! But don't bother with the sides, they are mostly boring (other than the garlic bread and rice), just buy yourself some straight chicken, chicken burrito, or chicken tacos because they are damn good. Side note is this place is super small inside, get your food to go if you are more than 4 people in a group. read more

When I use to work out of town people had never heard of chicken express, I guess it isn't so fast food-y after all. Anyways I love chicken express ! I easily come here once a week because I love know the ingredients are fresh, customer service I've never had a problem with . My only complaint is when ordering a meal the sides and drink are tiny. (I mean 4 oz of mash potatoes. REALLLLLLLLLLY.) read more

I ordered 4 taco salad and I asked them how many Ranch can they give me and they said 12. I said I need 4 more extra ranch and paid for it. came home when I open my bag I only have 6 ranch and when I called them they said only only 1 ranch each. They want me to comeback just for that. The food are great but service are bad! If I can give zero star I will. read more

I would move in here if they would let me! I just love this place so much!! I have been going here for at least 15 years; if not more, and cannot imagine my world without their tacos, taco salad, or STRAWBERRY CAKE!!!!!! It is always fresh and super yummy! I have never left here hungry or unhappy with anything I ate. I love the different fresh salsas you can get to compliment your tacos or salad also. The only negative is if you call in an order for pick up, they don't make anything until you get there so you end up having to wait for at least 5 - 10 minutes while they make it. This was frustrating because I was told my order would be ready in 10 minutes, but I guess what she meant was 10 minutes AFTER you arrive. Overall, this bad experience has not lulled my visits as I generally go about once a week read more

PROS: Best burrito in town - probably one of the best anywhere, tasty tacos, drive-through. CONS: Location, fast-food interior with few tables. read more

Best Chicken for sure in Vallejo and I'm sure can hold it's own against "other good chicken" restaurants in the Bay Area! Love, Love, Love their burrittos..they do not hold back on the cheese, beans, rice and sour cream! I LOVE THAT!!!! They are MEGA huge like SF's Mission District's. Tacos are great, too when you don't have a GNORMOUS appetite!! You don't have to wait long because they always have a full staff, and what I miss about Vallejo is that it's even gotta a DRIVE THRU!!!! They have so many different meals that incorporate their good chicken, there's really something for everyone! And everyone I've brought there always ask me to take them back there or grab them something when I go there to visit!! read more

I just recently started eating here and I'm pleasantly surprised how good the food is (considering that if you just drive by the location it won't really pull you in - looks kinda rundown at first glance). Anyway, back to the food... I usually get the chicken tacos. Crunchy shell, shredded chicken, lettuce, salsa, and topped with cheese. Add some taco sauce and mmmmm! I also get their rotisserie chicken which comes with either corn or flour tortillas, or garlic bread. I like getting the tortillas cause you can wrap up the chicken - along with their hot chunky salsa. Other noteworthy menu items include pretty good breakfast burritos for curing those gnarly hangovers, and a standard horchata - I notice that sometimes the horchata tastes different each time I order it but no biggie.. All in all, a good alternative to fried chicken places, and might even taste better too! I still wonder if the rotisserie chicken they sell at Costco tastes better though... I'm just sayin! when I first saw this place, I thought it was on-par w/ other fast food places. I was wrong b/c their chicken tacos were so good! you can definitely tell that the chicken is REAL chicken. if you're in vallejo and you're in a rush, I recommend their chicken tacos! 2-3 are usually enough for me. they also have set dinners where you can get whole rotisserie chickens + sides. their hibiscus tea is also good but a little sweet. they do have a parking lot which fits about ~15 cars? read more

Chicken Express - Hella Chicken tacos on taco Tuesday these are light and sooo good I can eat hella of these - Mexican Near Me - Vallejo, California

An excellent hole-in-the-wall place! These are the best places for good food! Nothing fancy, just order food, pick up at counter when ready, take home or eat right then and there. Friendly atmosphere. The flavor and seasoning of the chicken remind me of Mexico and Spain where I've had their roti. Spanish rice is a nice side dish and their sauces complement the chicken. Best to order whole chicken for take-home rather than cut-up, keeps the juices intact until ready to eat. As a loyal customer, keep coming back for more. This is one of Vallejo's hidden gems. Highly recommend! read more

There chicken combo deal is great..plus plus the tacos are cheap and awesome..they have a drive thru so i just get dinner on my way home, dinner that actually taste like someone gave a $#!+... They sometimes forget some sides on your order so check your bag of food before you move.. 4 well deserved stars! read more

This restaurant offers good food at a good price. The only issue they always have to play loud music which is unpleasant. I want to eat in a quiet table not a disco. read more

This place could definitely use a make over! I was definitely skeptical about eating here but could hear in his voice that he didn't have time for my shenanigans today. As we were both starving! So I gave in and said we could eat here but knew once I saw the food I'd make my final decision. I had already read the Yelp reviews and checked out the photos as well as looked in to see how many patrons were inside and going thru the drive thru. There were four food workers making huge burritos by the minute. The chicken looked like chicken so I gave it a whirl. I got the taco salad and he ordered a burrito. They reminded me of Las Palmas in Oakland because of how big their burritos are. The taco salad is not your typical taco salad but really like a salad which I liked (it's really a taco bowl) because I didn't want the tortilla bowl it would come in. The weird part about the taco salad was that tortilla chips were placed in a bag on the side. The food was very good as I eat basic anyway...chicken, rice, cheese and sour cream. I'd definitely go back but don't think I could eat there so to go it is. read more

Chicken Express - Mexican Near Me - Vallejo, California

This is a true Vallejo Staple! You cannot have a party and not have the rotisserie chicken from Chicken express! It's so addicting! The place is always busy but you never really have to wait long! Their chicken taco salad is yummy! And their tacos are just as good! You can call in your order too which is always a plus! I really can't compare their rotisserie to another place because this is the only place I ever get rotisserie chicken from! read more

This place used to be great, up until recently I'd get food here twice or three times a week. Recently the quality of the food has gone to crap. There is practically no chicken in the super burrito or soft taco anymore. The salsa isn't drained at all so the burrito was very soupy. Overall the food has been so bad the last 3 times I've been to Chicken Express that I'm not coming back. read more

I decided it was time to check out Chicken Express, again. My last visit, 9 months ago, didn't go well. I must say, the chicken taco salad was the "bomb" It was very tasty, fulfilling and I, appreciate the quantity I am back, as a satisfied customer. Thank you! read more

Oh Chicken Express, if only I could have moved you to Berkeley with me! Such good food, so low of a price. After living in the East Bay for two years I have still to find a rotisserie chicken place that can even hold a candle to Chicken Express. Don't listen to the negative reviews, I have a feeling that most of those people wouldn't give more than three stars to anything not in the trendy parts of the East Bay or the City. This place is awesome, no two ways about it. read more

For some reason my wife always calls this Chicken Spit..she grew up going here. We love it though. Cheap mexican food and you can get a side of mash potatoes as well. Try the taco salad though. It's delicious and huge. You'll be farting for hours. I love that it has a drive through too. The burrito's alright..good but not as good as Dos Hermanos tack truck. Check it out though. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been going to Chicken Express for years and have always loved the food. What prompted this review however was the customer service. I had an issue with an order (which is rare) and it was resolved so quickly with such professionalism I couldn't not leave them 5 stars with some kind words. I also want to mention that the cashier (inside and drive thru) is always friendly each time I go. This place is a Vallejo staple and I look forward to coming back every time! read more

This was one of my favorite places for lunch when I was working. It was several blocks down the road from my office and you could get two--or four--small tacos very inexpensively. It was less than $2 for 2 tacos and they were fresh, good and greaseless. I think the last burrito I ever ate was here. It was so huge I had no appetite for dinner and I decided then that burritos were just too big. I don't even think I finished it. I bought rotisserie chicken home once and it was OK. Not fabulous. But the chicken tacos...mmmwwahh! read more
