I had got a burrito from up in there and I am not gonna lie,it was good. They had put a lot of meat up in that burrito! I ordered through door dash and got my food in a timely manor. The salsa ( mixta/ mix), was OK. The salsa lacked in overall flavor, although it was spicy and tasted better with the carnitas. The carnitas were good. I got the mixed carnitas. I do have to say that there were 5 large pieces of tendon in the mix. If it weren't for the big pieces of tendon and some smaller pieces too, I would have given 4 stars. Overall, I would order from here again. Maybe I'd switch to green sauce. read more

Id give this place a 50/50 star rating. The cashier/ ordering part was great ! We speak Spanish so everything went smooth. Sat down because we were eating indoors , took like 15 minutes to recieve the drink we ordered (horchata), which is odd because you don't have to do to much considering it's premade. Although the wait was enough to start making me question this place is was good horchata, well made! Another 30 minutes for our food a total of about 40 minute wait , when there is barely any people ! We finally got our burrito and quesadilla, totally freshly cooked it seemed! Even the meat it was delish ! Carnitas were great everything was good. The waitress service seemed busy , and never asked us if we needed anything to add that part! I think I'll give this place 3.5 stars...this spot if for you if (a) you love carnitas and (b) you don't mind the grease! I think this may have been previously a fast food joint or something, so there are a few parking spots just for the joint. It's not the nicest part of town, but not bad during the day. They don't really have too many choices for other meats (chicken, lamb) except on weekends, so I would definitely come here mainly if you are a carnitas fan. We ended up getting 3 carnitas tacos ($8.25 for 3) and a carnitas quesadilla ($6.99). Only one person was in front of us with a takeout order, but we definitely had to wait closer to 20 minutes--slightly longer than usual for the standard mexican fare. When they finally came out, the tacos were piled with hand chopped carnitas, and the quesadilla was huge and oozing with cheese. The carnitas were definitely yummy--salty, soft, tender, and a good balanced amount of fatty bits! The quesadilla was definitely sitting in a pool of grease, While it was delicious, I did start thinking it was too much after 1/2 of it. The tacos also dripped grease but less. I think next time I might but just the carnitas by the pound and make my own tacos to tease out some of that grease. They also make chicharrones here! I want to give zero stars. I try not to write bad reviews but the burritos me and husband had were the worst burritos we have ever had. The meat was dry, the burrito was small, like a kids bean and cheese burrito when we ordered two super burritos. The size would not be an issue if the contents were good but it was awful. I took a few bites and could not eat anymore of it. Forgot to add it was SALTY. Salt lick salty. I even tried to give the meat to my dog and he would not touch it and that's not an exaggeration. I placed an order thru the phone and they told me it was going to be 20 minutes for a single burrito. I showed up 25 mins with giving them extra time. Once I got there, there is so pick up line. You have to wait in line where everyone orders plus they call numbers in between, so you could be in front but the previous people get their order first... once it was finally my turn to get charged they told me they haven't even started on my burrito and it will take an additional 10 minutes... I'm no carnitas expert but I have tasted better carnitas than theirs. I would rate their carnitas a little below average. Their carnitas was not flavorful and was a bit dry. The burrito was cold and cheese was not melted. Did not really taste any distinct flavors whatsoever. Eating it just felt like a chore not an enjoyment. Stood in line for about 15 mins we were the first in line. The worker at cash register was so rude. We tried to give her our order after 5 mins of just standing there but she told us to wait as she was busy giving out orders. As soon as we got out of line and headed for the door she yelled out NEXT PERSON. Last time we will ever go there. We made our way to La Tapatia that had a cheaper price per pound on the carnitas and they were Amazing! The rice and beans were really yummy as well. Plus the customer service was great. read more

Completely caught off guard with this place. Every restaurant at this location was always a bust, so trying this place out was never on my radar. So glad I was convinced to give it a try. There was a bit of a language barrier, but fortunately there was a customer who was kind enough to translate for us. It doesn't take away from the gracious customer service we received though. As for the food, we ordered the carnitas mixtas (to build our own tacos at home) & the patas en carnitas. Both were amazingly delicious, but the patas en carnitas... No words!!! We went on a week day, but there were a lot of items on the menu that were only available on the weekend. We will definitely be back & look forward to trying them. read more

Flavor is good but my complaint is that I had an issue, I went in to buy carnitas cuz they had a deal. Buy 1lb or more and get 1/2 lb free. When I requested that special I was told I needed a coupon but no where on the Facebook page does it say that a coupon is required. It would be nice if you specified where to get the coupon from. So 5 starts for flavor but 2 starts customer service. They have awesome carnitas, they're not greasy and the fat has been delicately removed from the meat. I enjoyed the carnitas and the salsas. Ppl there were friendly and gave very generous portions. I'm a fan and have been back on several occasions. There's not too many places that know how to make good carnitas. This place is not good, it's great!!! My whole family enjoyed dinner from this place. I'm very cautious about greasy food, I felt good about the way the meat was prepared because it was on the healthy side (as healthy pork can get...lol) Yelp, if u take in to account all my other reviews. I can only rate this on the carinitas that I got since shelter in place orders are in place, I can't say much about a dine in experience. The carnitas though, were super tasty. It's so nice to have this in Vallejo. I bought the carnitas and brought them home to make carnitas enchiladas; and let me tell you, they were delicious! 1 lb of carnitas (meat only) was enough to make 10 enchiladas for my husband and I. I drove by this place and stopped to grab a carnitas dinner for 2. They specialize in carnitas only so I figured they had to be good. I order a family meal 1 lb of carnitas, small rice/beans, salsa and tortillas and pineapple water. It was a good amount of food for 24 bucks. The meat was well seasoned and tender. My girlfriend loved the rice it was so flavorful and fresh. Even the salsa was great, they have a variety my favorite is the green. If you check in on Yelp on Monday or Tuesday you can get a 1/2 lb of carnitas for free with the purchase of a 1 lbs of carnitas (current check-in offer). read more

Mexican food. Typically, it's really hard to mess up. I don't think I've ever had Mexican food that was truly terrible. It usually ranges from really good to just OK. Where does Carnitas El Ricon fall? This place is located in a plaza that has been a long time staple of Vallejo. Specifically for Scotty's which, sadly, I have not ever been to. Truly sad, as I consider myself a true Vallejoan, through and through. But I digress. Before being a Mexican resto, it was a fried chicken spot that didn't fare too well (that's a sad thing to have to type out). The inside of the restaurant is nice enough. Very clean and orderly. Service is also really good and as straightforward as it gets. Just walk up to the counter, order, and wait for your food. Really nice salsa bar as well! So how about the food itself? I ordered several carnitas tacos. Sad to report though that it wasn't all that great. It wasn't terrible, but not as good as other places. I felt that the meat was a little overcooked and not really all that flavorful. Food itself was nice and hot, and salsas helped a bit, but the meat itself didn't really get a chance to shine. So it was slightly disappointing, food-wise. Maybe it was just an off-day for the food? I am not sure. But I had high hopes for the stuff. The service was good enough, though, that I will eventually give this place another shot. But for now, I would say that this place is just OK. read more
