I'm sorry, but when my hubby and first tried this place, we were expecting something that tasted more like the Peruvian style chickens we had in the DC area. The chicken here was mostly mediocre at best, lacking in flavor and not having very impressive side dishes. I guess for Vallejo's standards they would earn at least 3 stars, however, being from the city and having dined in various part of the bay area and other states, it just doesn't hold up to some of the other places I've tried. On another note, if they were to go all natural with their chicken, I may bump up a star for quality. read more

Rotisserie Chicken at it's best! Gotta love Chicken Express (aka Chicken "huk a loogie" Spit) I guess they had to change the name, but Chicken Spit seems more intriguing, right. Anyways, Besides getting some chicken, you can get your chicken burrito & chicken taco fix on! Yess..Buy one Taco, get one fo' FREE!!! Don't mind if I do....Yummy! Great taco salad too! I come here also for breakfast when I get a chance. Chorizo breakfast taco and Potato & Cheese taco please. They have one with bacon as well. Fast, Friendly, and a Drive thru....OH Yeah!!! Love Chicken Spit, oops I mean Chicken Express!!! read more

The only complaint I can think of is the restaurant itself which looks a little shabby. But it's been around for a long time and really that kind of thing doesn't bother me. The real star here is the chicken. Wonderfully moist on the inside and absolutely magical on the outside. There is something about that chicken skin that is so flavorful that if it were up to me I would eat only the skin. Their other items are pretty good. The tacos and burritos are a good proportion. The chicken taco salad is also very good (it's freaking huge!). It's a good place to stop by if you need to feed a few people but don't want to cook yourself. read more

It was my fault. I usually just stick with tacos but I went in and saw the mash postatoes and gravy and made a risk to try. It was nasty and tasted like it came from a box. The gravy was gross too. The tacos are the only thing I will order here. For the price, not too bad. Just get the green sauce and throw some hot sauce on and your good! read more

I usually go to the Suisun location and have always had a good experience but this location was horrible. My coworker ran and grabbed us all white meat chicken sandwiches (they charge extra for white meat) and I once I started eating, I immediately noticed the chicken was not white meat and did not look right. I stopped eating and investigated further and I saw this fully intact BUG in my food!! I was disgusted and showed my coworker, who was horrified because she ate hers already. I call the store and tell them we would like a refund because we found a bug in our food. The person who answered the phone did not seem shocked at all and said just bring the food and they will give the refund. I told her my coworker already ate hers, not knowing, but needs a refund as well. She said that would be fine. Once she arrives back they did not seem shocked about the bug but was giving her a hard time about the full refund. There was all sort of bugs flying around and the place looked unsanitary. This is unacceptable and I would not eat here. read more

Liked this place! Everything has chicken in it, and I like chicken. Got a Super Burrito with no beans, which meant I ordered a burrito with a lot of chicken, rice, cheese (I think), salsa, and sour cream. Yummy! Huge burrito for $6. Comes with packets of taco sauce... have your tapatio or cholula on hand. Brother in law ordered the 69 cent tacos, which he said were very small but good- he wanted to go back right away. I have to say, I am surprised by how many businesses we went to that make tacos in the style of taco bell (ice berg, cheddar). I am not a fan. Where the heck is the lime cotija, and cilantro?? Maybe I went to the wrong spots. Anyway, I'll forgive the tacos because the burrito was awesome. Also ordered cupcakes for the fam since there were so many good reviews on yelp. Ordered the chocolate delight and red velvet. Fyi... you have to order the cupcakes in pairs, and you cannot mix and match. My sister and I ordered two of each and traded one so that we each got to try both. I would recommend the chocolate delight over the red velvet; soooooo good! And only $2.75 for 2 cupcakes! Area is a little sketchy- you can eat in but I would recommend going through the drive thru. Employees were really nice and helpful- definite score in a drive thru operation. read more

Whatever they season the chicken with is glorious. I don't have anything bad to say about any of the menu items. You can't go wrong. The 12 piece chicken meal feeds my family and leaves some leftovers for the next day. Chicken tacos and burritos are great options when you're on the go. The taco salad is as massive as it is tasty. The sides and condiment selection are wonderful. Spanish rice, beans, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, warm tortillas and fresh salsas are all worthy of space on your plate. The interior is small, and yes, you might wait a few minutes for your food (GASP). Don't let this dissuade you. There is also a drive thru which is a nice option if you've got a car full of kids that you don't want to unload. read more

I am a mexican food snob, I'm happy to admit it. I grew up eating homemade mexican food every week, and my grandparents owned their own mexican restaurant..so i'm hesitant to give a thumbs up to mexican restaurants. I love chicken express, for a number of reasons: -it is fast and convenient, with a late-night drive-thru -it is cheap, by 1 taco get 1 free...buy 2 chickens, get 1 free...come on now...that's a deal -excellent rice and beans...we will go just for rice and beans sometimes. -The chicken is good, the tacos always tast fresh, the taco salad is huge, the chicken sandwich is delicious! -the staff are nice and give good service We're there weekly :) read more

The burrito here is pretty massive, and pretty tasty. I enjoyed the rice and chicken the most, although there could be a little more chicken in there. My problem with the food is that after I ate the burrito, I drank 4-5 cups of water and was still thirsty. There must be tons of sodium in the thing. read more

Great drive thru choice. I've been coming here for years and have come to appreciate the convenience of picking up a hot meal on the run. The family pack includes a whole chicken, with 2 sides and bread or tortillas. The garlic bread is disappointing but to be expected from a Mexican style chicken spot, its always hard and dry. The sides I love and not Mexican are the cole slaw and the mashed potatoes with gravy, very good. I ordered 20 chickens from here for my son's baptism and really liked their price and convenience, they give it to you in serving trays all cut up and warm. They also only require a 24 hr notice compared to El Pollo Loco's 3 day notice and higher price. My family really liked the chicken. Only negative are the tacos, I had not ordered them in ages and today was shocked that the are so small. Good idea to go on Wednesdays when they are only $.69 cents. read more

I can't believe I've driven by this place for years and not tried! BEST TACOS and so FULL OF MEAT! I'm NEVER touching Taco Bell again!! My mom has been bringing home the rotisserie chicken for over a decade and we've always enjoyed it. But the other food and prices you can't beat! read more

Great burritos, wonderful, flavorful, and juicy chicken. However more often then not because they do chop up the chicken on site from the rotisserie you do get bits of bone which aren't the greatest to chew into. If there was one thing I would have to change it would be their burrito wrap itself I can't help but after going to a place like baldos, or any family style Mexican restaurant that chicken express' wrap is a bit doughy and bland tasting. read more

This is for the older gentlemen working the drive thru window September 1 2019. As long as me and my family been coming here since the early 90 ,for family gatherings, potlucks, let's just say it's been a part of us for decades we never been charged salsa for our chicken orders. Being that our order is always over $60 the ladies that were always working the window gives us large amounts or even put in a container. This man charged us for salsa but had it on our receipt as a side order for four dollars and some change twice .When we got home we were missing the carrot cake that he said was in the bag. We didn't notice the extra charges until we called and told them they forgot our carrot cake and the young man mention just bring in receipt and that's when we noticed the charges . He charged almost $10 dollars for sides which was really salsa and only gave us one container. And he forgot our carrot cake that he rushed to gives us saying everything was in there. Sir after waiting patiently for close to ten minutes the least you can do was give us our salsa because I could of easily came in and did it, but because I had my 3 year twins in the car drive thru was our best option. Next time do the right thing sir know who the regulars are sorry chicken express blame the low rating to the older guy at drive thru hey tacos and everything is good especially the fresh salsa. read more

Chicken Express - Charged 4.49 twice for this one container when it's always free. Smh - Mexican Near Me - Vallejo, California

Love the chicken tacos the burritos aren't the best but they are worth trying. I don't order the sides because I don't care for them myself and the wait time is not that bad if your in the drive thru walk ins take a little longer but we already knew that right lol. I do recommend this place if your in the mood for chicken tacos. They didn't wanna honor my yelp coupon for my free drink that kinda ruined my chicken express experience because I didn't order a drink thinking I was getting a free one with my coupon. read more

The chicken is just okay to me, but make sure to taste for yourself because I know many that swears by it. I like the taco salad and the buy one get one free tacos are good. But what I come here for is there breakfast specials. I love a good deal especially when it comes to food. You can get two breakfast tacos and a drink for like 3 dollars. I like to have one of each taco with the salsa. Get the one with potatoes in it and it can really fill you up. read more

3 piece chicken platter was just okay. Make certain to get the dark meat, which was much juicer than its white mean counterpart. The chicken gravy was too salty for me. If I return I will just get the chicken tacos. read more

Vallejo is like a diaspora of... a bunch of fast food joints. You won't find too many healthy places around these parts. However, when ever I have a chicken fix and I want something kinda sorta healthy, I hit up chicken express. Rotisserie chicken. Some really good roast chicken and hey, it's not fried. Genius! The chicken here is flavorful and juicy. It can pretty much stand on it's own... but it's even better when paired with the green and regular salsas, mmm mmmm (might even be good with the gravy they have here for the mashed potatoes, buuuut i'm kinda sorta dieting, so I won't chance it to find out). I often find myself ordering a 2 piece meal with 2 corns halves (technically, 1 whole corn), corn tortillas (I stray away from the flour stuff), and a whole bunch of that great salsa. They give you two generously sized pieces as well. If you're feeling mighty carnivorous, go for the 4 piece! That's like... half a chicken! Also, they have the 69 taco deal going here. It used to be just wednesdays, but if you go inside you will find out that the deal is now EVERYDAY! Though for those on the path of health, I wouldn't recommend having tacos everyday... you know, those shells are fried... I can't imagine that your heart would stand a chance for long if you go on a taco binge. But I digress. If you're low on funds, you can get some tacos here on the cheap. Small dining area, especially at lunch time, but the food tastes equally as good when eaten in the comfort of one's own home. Would be nice if they offered some chicken soft tacos, but that is not a bad thing. Good, affordable, healthy-ish grub in Vallejo. You will not find many places like it around here. If Bud's is the burger mecca of Vallejo, then this place is definitely the go-to place for chicken here. read more

I don't go out of my way for fast food much anymore and have been really good about eating better than I used to. However, Mexican food has always been a weakness and when you can convince yourself that what you're eating isn't that bad because it's not only fresh but it's roasted and not fried... AND it's delicious?? I will never turn down a chicken burrito from Chicken Express. read more

Come for their Super Chicken Burritos and ask for all their sauces. that's all you need.

It was called chicken spit when i was a kid, me and my brother thought that was hillarious. I just had their taco salad last night... YUM!! You can't go wrong eating here. Yummy!! It is a little oily/greasy, but that's what rice and tortillas are for. I really really like their beans!! And I noticed they opened a drive thru not to long ago. So you don't always have to go inside anymore. read more

Really great mexican rotisserie chicken food. The chicken is really good quality, and you can get a meal there for the same price, if not cheaper, than fast food, and it is much healthier and tastes way better. The little chicken tacos are a favorite standard of mine, but I am also a fan of their breakfast burritos. Fast service, friendly staff, locally owned, open late, and they even have a drive-thru! read more

Not many things I like about living in Vallejo...however, Chicken Express is one of the few and far between jewels in this city. I have had almost everything on the menu....everything is amazing. Love their taco salads!!! Everything here is pretty good from their burritos, tacos and plates.

Really convenient, it has a drive thru and it is open pretty late. Come here for the whole chickens, chicken taco salad and the chicken tacos. All of excellent quality- and the beans and rice are actually good! My mom would make me come here before I went to visit her in the East Bay all the time- the chicken taco salad is to die for. read more

This is an okay place in my book. Its very straight forward, lots of great chicken that is cooked on going through out the day and paired with average sides. My favorite is the chicken salad, and I love the mashed potatoes. Not something to really just jump up and down about, but it is some good (healthy) chicken. read more

The chicken taco salad ( no lettuce please) is the winner here. Had it last night with whole pinto beans for the first time and it was the greatest yet. Add on extra mild salsa and their fantastic ranch and along with tortilla chips it's a great meal. Also great are the tacos and burritos. The chicken is so good. One of my favorite, quick, Vallejo spots. read more

Their rotisserie chicken in my opinion is really good along with their spanish rice. I was addicted to their salsa for a while too and their chicken tacos when they just fresh make it and still crunchy. Its so juicy and tasty. I think theyre changing up their orders and pricing now though since i havent better there recently. read more

You can't beat $0.69 tacos. I can eat 5 of these to myself even though i know i shouldn't. My family and i have been coming here for a few years now and the tacos were only on sale on wednesdays but NOW its EVERYDAY. i have to say though the chicken can be a lot on the DRY side, but with SALSA VERDE (must try) you could barely tell the chicken is dry. The cupcakes aren't a best seller but are worth trying every once in a whie. I would recommend the red velvet! read more

Pretty good chicken for cheap! The place seems pretty deserted though, we couldn't really tell if the drive through was open or not since there wasn't really anybody around (it was open). I got the two piece chicken combo (leg and thigh because I don't really like white meat) which I enjoyed. The chicken was pretty good, it wasn't just the skin that had flavor. Definitely a good fast food option! read more

I gave this place three stars because the food was over hypes but at the same time the chicken I ordered wasn't eaten until a few hours later. It's says Mexican rotisserie chicken so I was expecting some Mexican spice but it wasn't anything special. I guess it's just rotisserie chicken made by Mexicans. They so have a small salsa bar though. $12 bucks for a dark/ light mix of 8 pieces was okay but it just tasted like regular rotisserie chicken. Could've gotten the same thing at Costco for half the price. I'll give this place another try and have it fresh next time. There's a drive through and they also accept credit card which is a great convenience for those on the run and short on cash. The service is okay and the chicken came out really quick. In and out in 5 minutes. read more

I love their chicken Tacos! So tasty and great price. It went up from $.79 to $.89 but it's worth more than that. Every time I pass through Vallejo, I make sure to stop by and get some chicken tacos. read more
