Regarding the main dining room and dinner-- Excellent. Food is wonderful, server is knowledgable but not pushy...very pleasant. Atmosphere is great...very quiet and relaxing. My wife and I heard that Chez Phillippe was offering a high tea in the efternoon down at the Peabody ... so we went down for finger sandwiches and weak tea in tiny cups ... or so I thought. The entire experience turned out to be a delight. We had a robust English Breakfast Tea, and dozens of delicious sandwiches, confections, scones, pastries, and chocolate whipped ganache mousse cups ... wow. Who would have thought that such a traditional "girly" event would be endorsed by a big linebacker sized guy like myself ... but I'm hooked. My sister and I came for the high tea service. We had reservations and were sat immediately. The price went up a little bit (price is the only reason why it's not a 5 star review) but the food was delicious. For the first course, we were served little finger foods and sandwiches. Unfortunately 2 of the 3 selections contained something I couldn't eat. I notified the waiter and without hesitation he went to the kitchen and the chef made me 2 new selections that I could eat. I was very impressed! The second course was a fresh scone. It was so soft and warm and moist. Finally, the last course was a dessert course of little cakes, macaroons, and chocolates. I was worried that I would leave still hungry but to my surprise I was actually pretty full. The tea selection was pretty decent and consists on different herbal, green and black teas. If you cannot have caffeine, they have a pretty good selection of caffeine-free teas not on the menu. The service was excellent as one would expect. I know this statement is going to be off-putting to some people, but here's the deal with Chez Philippe at dinner-- if you have experienced very high end restaurants in other cities, you will not be impressed at all. If fine dining is a rare treat, you will likely enjoy Chez Philippe. Food and service were very good but in my opinion below par for a $100 per person meal. There were small details in service that were missed-- such as water glasses sitting unfilled for too long, dishes not cleared quite as quickly as they should be, waiters very unfamiliar with the wine they were serving, etc. We ordered from the standard 3-course menu, and all of the food was good...but there just wasn't anything super special. Lobster bisque was delicious-- but not any more so than most prime steakhouses in town. Filet was very good but the dish was served lukewarm when it should have been hot. Desserts were excellent, but I believe you can get many of the same desserts in the hotel lobby. Wine pairings are a decent value, but given the size of the restaurant and low table turnover, it seemed like a couple of the bottles had been open for more than a day. The experience is, overall, a high end one and does feel special and romantic if that's what you're going for. Foodies just won't find anything remarkable here. read more

Phenomenal! Upon arrival we were greeted by name and taken to our requested table, which they had decorated with rosé petals in honor of our anniversary. Traveling in Memphis. While we were not staying at The Peabody we knew that a special dinner at Chez Philippe was in order. We made an early reservation for dinner because we had a music event to attend later in the evening. The service was worth the price alone. I enjoyed the Lobster Cappucino, the Strip Loin and the incredible (but rich) chocolate-hazelnut dessert to all be quite good. We also chose the wine pairing. Just dined last night in Chez Philippe for New Years Eve! Absolutely flawless!!! The service was impeccable! Most important the food was food you would find, if they were lucky, in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Chicago. My party dined on dishes like an Amuse Bouche of a modernized version of a crudité in a glass with two olive bread stick, cream of white asparagus soup with caviar, black eye pea creme brûlée and oyster beignet, braised veal cheeks/forest mushroom stew with a goat cheese dumpling, beef tenderloin and lobster tail with Vermont butter mashed potatoes with fall vegetables. For dessert there was a hazelnut bitter sweet chocolate tart, chocolate raspberry clafoutis and a bourbon chocolate Bavarian. My opinion they are not charging enough for a menu that obviously has a Chef that knows his way around a kitchen and then some. This chef needs his own restaurant. This was the first time my wife and I have eaten here and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The food was amazing, pacing of the meals were perfect and the waiters were friendly and knowledgeable about each dish. Solomon was our main server and he was very polite and explained each dish carefully. He went over the top and I recommend this restaurant based on the great service and food presentation and taste. Chez Philippe is A-Ok for what it is. To be clear, it is a "very refined dining experience," and "expensive." Therefore, I compare it a) to the other options of Memphis, and b) to other very refined and expensive dining experiences I have had around the globe... and I find Chez Philippe to be A-Ok. That's not easy for me to say... since after we dined there with another couple, had two bottles of wine, and went with the "three course" menu, we split the bill down the middle for the two couples and I shelled out $333. Woops, that wine was pricey. :) Either way, it needs to be knocked down to size just a bit. The interior is certainly over the top in it's classical decor... a baroqueness that is in your face to the point you'd expect to see a painting of Louis XIV on the wall. On top of that, the place is so quiet you'd wonder if they are hosting a wake... *searches for coffin* ... *no coffin*... *searches again to be sure*. I'm told that the afternoon tea is a good time there, so I'm curious how that goes... but Friday evening dinner is a bit boring. I'm anything but old money, and I'm anything but Southern... and that might just be the style they're going for... so my wannabe nouveau riche, New England self felt a bit out of place. But, as I mentioned before... the wine loosened things up nicely... maybe a bit much when I saw us get the evil eye from the waiter when we 'done us some cussin'.' The food was excellent, and fell in line exactly with what I would want at a fine dining experience. Great job... you're A-Ok at the level you want to play at. The entire menu was relatively classic, with some more exotic choices than most restaurants, but nothing incredibly creative as a whole. Look... if you want to spend the money, and check the box on CP, go for it... we did, and the food is great, the decor is wonderfully over the top, and it's a Memphis experience. Checked the site and yelp - Hours till 10PM. Show up and 9:15pm, solo, dressed in a suit, mind you, and the host informs me the last seating was a 8:30. "But there are other good restaurants you can try" in the thick French accent. Listen Frog, if I wanted to try those, I would have gone there. OBVIOSLY I wasn't dressed for Rendezvous in $550 Ferragamo shoes, the $2500 Zenga suit and a $175 Ferragamo tie. I went to Chez Philippe with a few friends and it was the finest meal we had ever had, all of us. We each had the four course meal but felt like it was about 8 courses., each course was followed by a palate cleanser or a treat, yum!! We each tried a different item off the menu so we could taste a bit of everything and it was ALL delicious!!! John, our waiter, was attentive and well prepared. The cocktails were fantastic. My wife and I chose Chez Philippe for our Anniversary dinner. As "the" premier dining experience of Memphis, she and I were elated about our evening. Our food was AMAZING from start to finish. The Chef is brilliant, his waitstaff is not. Our server, Matt, left much to be desired. He nailed the French accent on a few words, but his pronunciation was the highlight of his night. He neglected the wine list, bread, and our glasses stayed empty more often than full. Distracted by the two other dinner parties in the restaurant, he was totally unconcerned with us and he left no doubt about it. I have to admit, the remaining restaurant staff were very pleasant and helpful. Often handling Matt's responsibilities for him. But the fact remains, I have received far better wait service in truck-stop diners than what I experienced at Chez Philippe. It is unfortunate for the Chef and restaurant that this review will be read by potential customers. The food is unbelievable, the setting breathtaking, and hopefully the service will improve. It was our anniversary so we chose this beautiful restaurant based on many reviewers comments on ambiance. we were not disappointed. We were greeted by name and seated immediately. The wait staff was gracious and well informed. But the biggest surprise was the food itself. You choose between a 3, 5, or 7 course meal with or without paired wines. We actually arrived an hour early for our reservation which we did not realize until the next day. They took us anyway, and never mentioned it. The setting was beautiful and the meal was great. My husband and I came here for dinner around the holidays and of course the restaurant and hotel lobby were beautifully decorated and bustling. For dinner, there are only 2 options available, the 7 course or the 4 course tasting. We opted for the 4 course and my husband had the wine pairing as well. The service is great and they explain every dish in detail, which is helpful because they serve pretty complicated dishes! Honestly everything was beautifully presented and delicious. 4 course was definitely more than a enough food and with everything being so rich and decadent, it's the perfect indulgence. They also offered several amuse bouche throughout the meal and complimentary macarons as a take home gift which was a nice surprise. The wine pairing also went well with the food. I've been to Chez Philippe once before but it was close to ten years ago. I went last night as part of special week in Memphis called Downtown Dining Week where several different restaurants offer a fixed three course menu for an extremely reasonable/cheap price. (Two options for app, two options for entree, two options for dessert.) The service was above and beyond - as I would expect nothing less from the Peabody Hotel - and we were treated just as if we were dining off the full price menu. I never had to ask for anything, the servers were that good. And the food! Oh, the food! I had a butternut squash soup that was perfect. For the my entree I chose the shrimp fricassee and it was delicious. The light sauce with this entree was a great addition. The dessert was probably my favorite part of my meal - and I'm not a sweets person. I opted for the creme brulee and it was hands down the best one I've had in my life. I ate almost every bit of it until I felt almost sick because I was so full. Overall, the food was incredible and the service was top notch. They even gave us a lemon poppyseed muffin to go and I ate it for breakfast this morning! I will go back to Chez Philippe again very, very soon. read more

My three siblings and I planned a dinner party at Chez Philippe for our parents 50th wedding anniversary. There were 24 guests which were all served filet mignon, $2,360 (includes the tax and gratuity). They served all of them rare to very rare, which some guests ate anyway or tried to eat. We were very disappointed in the filets preparation. We were not asked how we wanted them prepared, which I thought was very unusual. Also, I along with three other family members taste tested three flavors of cake for the party before we made a decision on the flavor. We chose a chocolate with raspberry filling. The two tier, $210 (includes tax and gratuity), cake we were served at the dinner tasted nothing like the one we chose. It had no flavor at all. I hate to admit this but my mother threw the remainder of the cake away. I could have made a box cake which would have had a better flavor. We were not allowed to bring a cake from another bakery, which could have avoided this situation. We were very disappointed with our experience with this supposedly 4 star restaurant. read more

We had a stunning dinner last evening at Chez P. We have not been there in about 8-9 months but were overwhelmed with the food quality and presentation by the relatively new chef. From Paris to NY we could not have had a finer dinner especially in such an opulent and classy environment. We selected the four course dinner and it was truly more than we could eat. For the "Garden" course I selected the port poached pear, goat feta, and arugula-the preparation was totally not what I imagined but was breathtaking in its appearance and taste. The cheese sat perfectly round on top of the equally round pear concoction which I would call a gelatin with micro arugula on top of the cheese and pretty bits of pecans and dabs of sauce scattered on the plate-truly magnificent. The goose terrine was equally lovely and flavorful. The spiced monkfish was a very different and ambitious spiced monkfish round surrounded by house cured bacon. The fish sat on an Indian influenced garbanzo bean preparation with fig butter sauce-superb but a hearty dish. The roasted pheasant with brioche pudding with demi-glace was a classic. I selected the NY strip with braised short rib and celeriac puree which was heavenly. The desserts are world class in taste and presentation-we had Brûlée three ways and the Chocolat a'la Bavaroise which was one of the pretties desserts I have ever seen with a comb like piece of white chocolate adorning the red colored dessert. Service from Evan was top drawer in every way and the chef was kind enough to grace our table for a chat. Dinner at Chez Philippe is currently a memorable affair! read more

Take a seat and grab a cup of coffee because this is going to be a long one! I would give it 10 stars if I could. The night we were there, we were guests at the hotel. (see Peabody review) When you approach the restaurant, it looks like something straight out of France. It is located right behind the fountain. When you walk in there are few tables for a more quiet setting. It was beautifully decorated. It looked like a palace. They took us back to the grand room. The ceilings were high and grand. The marble columns were beautiful. The waiters are amazing! They have two waiters per table. They have two options on the menu. They are the four course and the seven course menu. Also, they have a great selection of entrees and desserts. We both decided to get the seven course. We were the first people to try their new menu. Our first course was complimentary. It was a slice of fresh cucumber with tuna on top. The tun was delicious! It had a delicious aioli under it with micro greens on top. Our next course was a buttermilk-pear jello. It was both creative and fun to eat. There was a house made champagne vinaigrette. They also had several other sauces on the plate. The plate was beautiful and looked like something out of a European restaurant. Next, we had the escargot. It was served with a garlic popover. The sauce was delicious! We had a palate cleanser which was a lemon berry sorbet. For dessert, we had a big bowl of custard with a graham cracker pecan crust and a caramel crisp. I could go into detail about every course, but it would take too long! I hope you get a chance to experience one of the best tasting menus in the south! read more
