If you have been traveling up and down Brunswick Road over the years, you know the building. This…read morewas the Brunswick General Store and had a barber shop and the Brunswick post office in the back on of the building. Times change and the building changed ownership and names. It became a couple of operations including the Brusnwick Kitchen. However, the name had was registered with the state and can no longer be used. So it is now Trudies Catfish Cabin. Oh, how I wish they made a good pizza and served beer. We really need this in the area! This isn't the first time I've been here and I'll return. However tonite, I'd like to highlight the Catfish Tacos. Three tacos for $12.99, and folks these are a better deal than many other places fish tacos. The three of them are a meal by themselves. I was with a three others tonite, and for all of us, the three tacos apiece was more than enough. For the two of us, our bill was $35.00 and consisted of two orders of fish tacos, drinks, and one order of french fries for the table. As for the Tacos: First off, these folks are using a nicely cooked catfish filet. It has only a few topping including a secret sauce that does not detract from the taste of the fish. Second off, the tacos were soft and flaky, and the server said these were made on site. Our server tonite was a young man and he was taking care of business; he would have made Quark the bar keeper proud. Lastly, this is a quiet place. The TV was on a basket ball ball game. Tonite the music was generic soft jazz. Sometimes in the afternoon its on an R&B channel for the music. The music sits in the background and doesn't interrupt conversations. The interior is softly decorated amd comfortable. There are two photos that go with this review: Front Door, Fish Tacos While this is not a five star establishment, as nothing disrupted the dinner giving a 5 star rating.

We waited awhile for a table, but we didn't mind as we had nothing else to do. The place is on the small side, but we didn't feel cramped. From the minute we walked in, everyone was friendly and the place feels welcoming. The food... to die for!!! The stuffed crawfish bread... delicious! Crab stuffed grouper... oh my, so good! Bacon wrapped beef tenderloin... yes, please! And to top it all off, the infamous bread pudding... do NOT pass it up!!! I cannot wait to go back.

We were seated right at the hour mark and when we sat down to order at 6:30, they were already sold out of the special fish of the day. My husband was soooo bummed as that is what we drove almost an hour for him to eat. We started with the crawfish bread which is always AMAZING and tonight was no different. EXCELLENT as usual. I decided on the fried catfish and grits which was really good. The creamy crawfish sauce is similar to the sauce on the crawfish bread without all the cheesiness. My husband went with the crab stuffed flounder with butter sauce and green beans. While he did enjoy the flounder, he said the green beans were nothing special, lacking in flavor and pretty bland. Overall a great experience, just disappointing that the special ran out before the evening service had really even gotten started. I guess that just goes to show how good the restaurant is if they are selling out that quickly.

Anyway, we were…read morereally surprised how really super nice the staff and how knowledgable they were about the menu. We ate outside and noticed how private it felt even though we were outside. Nice and easy going, we didn't feel rushed, our food came out in a timely manner and it came out hot. I had the Chicken Alfredo, my husband had Cheeseburger and Fries (MR), and my friend had Boneless Wings/fries. My husband's Cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. My Chicken Alfredo was not dry and neither was the chicken, and my friends Boneless Wings looked juicy as well. We also had apps! Our frozen adult drinks were on point. What I liked the most was that we were not rushed, instead we felt like we were in our backyard relaxed enjoying our food, drinks, and each other's company. Thank you Velvet Ditch we will be back...My husband is dying to try the Oysters!

The Velvet Ditch located in downtown Oxford, The Square…read more This is a typical college bar type restaurant with outdoor beer garden and seating with televisions and a raucous crowd. We came in to taste the local flair while on an Ole Miss college tour. The wait was lengthy however you could still stand at the bar and have a drink while you waited. We ordered a round of beers and checked out the place and the people. The bartenders were very nice, a lot of southern hospitality in this town. We were finally seated and ordered a seafood platter and a few orders of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. Shrimp that tasted amazing and sausage with great flavor. Rice cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The seafood platter in my opinion, not worth the money. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. Coming from vegas the bar is set high on dining out as we have the best of the best in our city when it comes to places to eat. While this was a fun place to hang, it's expensive for a college town. The ahi tuna nachos at this place are absolutely amazing and a must try. Best thing I ate there. A ton of Ahi and a huge portion. There was more ahi than chips. Clean place, fair service at the tables, waitress delivered 4 entrees and saint bring the 11 year olds dinner. He sat for 15 minutes and I had to hunt her down to ask where the kids food was. Serve everyone at the same time, it's rude not to. This was a big annoyance for me as the child sits with no food while everyone else is eating for 15-20 minutes.

The ambience is always beautiful, with light jazzed and quiet conversations. But I would love to recognize Riley, who was my server. She was just the sweetest, kindest and the most thoughtful host. Every year that I've come and they ask what are you celebrating, and I mention my birthday was in a few days. She took the time to bring out the birthday duck with a candle, and it was just beautiful. She also helped me out with a solution to self parking. So kudos to Reilly please someone give her a raise. So onto the food, stellar as always there was only two things that I noticed, I missed the butter that goes with the scone, which I'm sure if I asked I would've received, but honestly, it was tasty without it. The only other thing is with a tea it gets weaker every time it gets refilled. Given that tea service price has increased to $65 plus the 9.25% sales tax and the 20% included gratuity came to about $90 (which was a little more than I was expecting, but inflation right). It would've been great to get the leaves changed out after the third pour, but other than that it was a 10 out of 10.

What is funny (or at least noteworthy) is that a couple of days ago, Chez Phillipe posted a social media video, highlighting the exquisite care and attention to detail that goes into plating. Perhaps they should start with getting the moldy food out of the walk-in?
