The restaurant is attached/associated to the neighboring hotel and caters primarily to their guests. The establishment ambiance is dark (dreary?)--for breakfast. I was seated fairly promptly. I asked for a teaspoon for my coffee (was provided a soup spoon). The server didn't remove the 2nd table service until I was 1/2 way through my meal. This restaurant is upper mid 'quality' yet the table service provided a "diners" coffee mug instead of a cup and saucer. I asked, and got, cream with my coffee (not packages). I don't eat pork--there are no non-pork meat options. The menu (and server) represent the croissants and muffins as "fresh baked." I think the croissants are store bought nuked, they're a bit soggy and became rubbery as they cooled (not buttery/flakey). I ordered my side of eggs over-medium and they arrived over-hard. The breakfast, is over-priced. The location and ambiance should/could be exceptional. I'm clearly disappointed. (They might want to look at The Capital Hotel in LR for ideas.) read more

Without a doubt, we had the worst dining experience of all time. It was Valentine's Day dinner, which was a premium, fixed price of $250, and it took nearly 1.5 hours to be say after our reservation of 7:45. There was a line of 30+ people in similar situations. Once we were sat at around 9 pm, we were crammed into a tiny space with a lot of other couples and it felt very rushed. Although I have a great deal of empathy for the employees dealing with the situation at hand, I felt like we were brushed over and never truly had our horrible experience acknowledged outside of a rose and champagne given to us in our line of 30+ people. The only redeeming part of the evening was our waitress who clearly worked her butt off to make sure we were taken care of. She was sweet and hard working. But at the end of the day, I don't want to have to feel sorry for the wait staff because of a terrible decision obviously made by management to overbook a prepaid experience. Overall, I'm not sure if I'd ever be willing to give Paulette's another try after the evening we had. read more

I decided to go here for my birthday dinner. It's located in Harbor Town in a beautiful space. Walking up especially at night, you will enjoy the scenery. You can see the Memphis bridge and may even be lucky enough to see a light show! So when we went in, we were immediately seated and given water and our menus. We also received complimentary bread that they said is homemade. The taste is slightly bland, but the strawberry butter helps with that. We then moved on to appetizers. Meet have them salad and crab cakes. The wedge salad was good. The crab cakes were too, they were just extremely small for the price for that reason I wouldn't order them again. It's was finally time for our entrees. My husband had the half chicken and I had the shrimp and grits. The chicken was ok and not really flavorful. The sauce didn't add much to it either, but at least we did get a good portion. I will say the shrimp and grits were really good. I enjoyed every single bite. Oh and I ordered a drink. Today was my first ever visit to Paulette's to meet a longtime friend who was in town for Breakfast. She was staying at the River Inn at Harbor Town and the breakfast is free for hotel guests which was a surprise to me, but a perk to stay there lol We sat on the patio with beautiful fall views, sunny weather. Our server was Evan, he was patient and accommodating. Our food came out fast, fresh, and hot. I had the All American Breakfast with crispy bacon, stone ground grits and a croissant, we ordered fruit for the table. My friend said I must come back for dinner that the food is top notch. Paulette's is a restaurant on the ground floor of a small boutique hotel. Window seating overs a sliver of a view of the river beyond the street and parking area. The decor is generic lacking a Southern charm, but bless their hearts, they tried. What they do well here are mixed drinks. Their top shelf margaritas alone deserve a 4.5-5 star rating. The Kahlua coffee with whipped cream was a nice finish. The wine list is weak - skip it. The deviled eggs were not overly Smokey, the best part was the slice of pepper on top. The cheese plate was mediocre. They needed a good blue and the Brie was not ripe. Skip the crab cakes - nothing to see here. Paulette's Filet had potential, but fell flat with the sauce. It lacked depth of flavor. The pepper-encrusted filet itself was tender and good. Don't get this if you do not care for red bell peppers as the flavor of the bell pepper overwhelms the flavor of the meat and without a heavy cream sauce to balance it, it makes for a steak that tastes like bell pepper. The Chocolate Decadence was wonderful. Ask for a scoop of the coffee ice cream with it. Their "k-Pie" is basically a tall thick wedge of coffee ice cream with a coconut crust and a shot of Kahlua. read more

I made a reservation 6 weeks ago for Father's Day. I requested a table for 2 by the window. When I got there the table was not ready. There was no one at the front to greet me when I came in. When she did come up front she said they were a little busy today. Looked around and noticed the place looked like it was short staffed. I did not get the table by a window as requested but was seated right by the front where people stood inside the restaurant and stared at us which was uncomfortable. The table we were seated at was hard to see. You had to look around the wall to see there were people seated at this table. After 15 minutes the waitress finally shows up. Fills our glass with lukewarm water. Rushes through our ordering process and leaves. We promptly received our soup before we're supposed to get popovers first. We asked her where the bread was she said they were baking and would bring them out as soon as they came out. We had to flag the manager down to ask what the holdup was on the bread. He said their oven broke and they were was down to one oven. We told him about not being too happy with our seating and not receiving our bread. He just stood there and looked at us. When it finally came out, it was doughy and a big mess. The waitress brought our food and drop off it off and left. I got egg Benedict that was overcooked on top of a floured crab cake. The potatoes was cold and hard and so was my asparagus. My husband's was no better. In the meantime I ran out of my water never got a refill. Took forever to get the dessert so when she brought it asked for a to go box and check so we could get out of there. The place looked run down. We went there years ago and loved it. While we were there another couple was not happy with their seating and overheard them cause we were seated right there by the front door. The woman was so disgusted she told her husband, let's go. If you have a dress code, make that known instead of making customers feel uncomfortable. If you have high expectations of your customers, make the service match that, too. We were seated in the back of the restaurant (they closed the doors to the room we were in shortly after being seated), waitress was seemingly nice but ignored us for most of our meal. Food was just ok - for the price I'd expect it to be better. I had a coffee and asked for a refill when my food came out, which never came. We put in two cards to split the bill down the middle and waitress charged the person I was with for 50% of the meal and charged me for 100% of the meal. We didn't realize that Paulette's was part of Downtown Dining Week, so it was a pleasant surprise to have some extra options on the menu. They offered us popovers with strawberry butter. A very enticing introduction, but I discovered that I do not, in fact, like popovers. Nothing against the restaurant. I have a thing with texture and didn't like the egg lining of the bread. Hubby started his meal with the Low County Crab Cake; not tasting his meal was not an option and it was delicious! I started with the Garden Salad with tarragon vinaigrette. Our main meals were the Maple Glazed Salmon with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans for myself and Gulf Redfish with Crabmeat, mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus for him. Even though our appetites were satiated with the appetizer and main course, we were treated to dessert as part of my DDW selection. The chocolate cake was brought out for me but our server made sure to celebrate hubby's birthday by bringing it out with a candle for him to make a wish! It was incredibly delicious and we were thoroughly pleased with our first, but not last, experience there. COVID Measures: Our server, Alan, was completely professional, kind, and attentive. To call this place a Memphis institution is an insult to Memphis. Each step of the ordeal was a disaster. We were early for our holiday dinner reservation, but made to wait at the host stand well beyond the time. Further, the gentleman who checked us in, asked for our name multiple times. Then the table was essentially a metal card table with too-tall chairs shoved at it. When we were sat, we were told they had already run out of redfish; nevertheless we placed our order. A short time later, we overheard another table was accommodated last minute, all eight enjoyed the filet, and then to another table, they had run out of steak. When nothing was told to us, we thought we were safe. Bland appetizers and 45 minutes later, we were finally informed that we, too, would be missing out on the steak. We were then offered chicken, salmon or sirloin and 50% comp of our drinks. We said no thanks and had an amazing time at a true Memphis institution. Certainly won't be back. read more

Im giving 2 stars instead of 1 because we were 20 mins late for our Saturday reservation at 11:45 and they allowed us to stay. However no one greeted us at the door and the places was not busy at all.There were only 2 people working that I could see, so maybe one was waiting tables and the other was cooking/ bartending. After 10 minutes of being ignored we were seated. Then waited another 5-10 mins before we could place our drink order. Then another 25 min plus before we placed our food order. We were told the only menu available was the Brunch menu. Not lunch nor breakfast. Smh. its lunch time...... Anyway after an hour of being there we finally get our food. Presentation was nice but food not. My french toast was raw in the middle. potatoes were either mushy/soggy or not cooked well enough. The sever was probably doing the best she could by herself so she was not to blame. She had several big tables by herself. The atmosphere was nice. We had several alcoholic beverages among 5 ppl, our bill was $180. The folks that had alcohol said their beverages were good. The popovers were the best thing we had and they were just barely warm. Strawberry butter amazing just as I remembered it. The reason I was so disappointed in this place is bc at one time it was the best restaurant in Memphis and over the years I had some pretty good meals there. I chose this place bc we were looking for a wedding dress for my daughter who lives out of town, this was a close knit group of women trying to celebrate a special day. Great dinner at Paulette's in the River Inn at Harbor Town, Memphis. Service by Matt was very good. Ambiance is fine dining intimate. We began with a cheese board and cocktails. Ony disappointing surprise for the night was a $24 Hendricks Martini (at least it was delicious) - about the price of each entree! Even our server was surprised when he saw the price (Hendricks on the rocks is $12) and said he asked the bartender to be sure. Other than that gouge, the rest of their prices were very reasonable for fine dining (e.g., Maker's on the rocks only $9.50 and a good pour). Next was an excellent wedge salad, followed by delicious entrees of Herb Chicken and Salmon. Both were perfectly cooked and highly recommended. For dessert we had the chocolate decadence cake (more like fudge, but very tasty). read more

The day we went was a rainy one, but I'm sure the views of the river are beautiful on a sunny day! Service is very friendly and fast. They brought out their signature popovers with strawberry butter - warm and soft, and the delicate flavors of the strawberry butter are a nice accent! Then, we ordered our entrees. We wanted to share, so we went with dishes that were agreeable to us: - herb roasted chicken (Redbird Farms Chicken Breast, Fingerling Potato, English Peas, Lardon, Artichoke Broth, Pea Tendril): loved this dish! I normally don't go for chicken dishes because they're usually too bland and dry, but this one was quite the contrary! Juicy with lots of flavor but not too overwhelming. It actually went really well with our other gritsotto dish! - basmati gritsotto (Basmati, Blue Oyster Mushrooms, Shallots, Butter, Carrot Chips, Garlic Chive, Lemon Creme Fraiche): I wasn't sure what to expect of this one, but it's packed with flavor! I recently visited Paulette's on a trip to Memphis. Family recommended the brunch here and we went for a Sunday brunch. Located on mud island, the restaurant has great views of the Mississippi and is located in among a neighborhood of eclectic homes. Inside the restaurant consists of various rooms connected to each other kind of reminiscent of restaurants in France. As part of Sunday brunch, we were served fresh popovers with strawberry butter. I've never had a popover so I'm not sure what they should actually taste like, however they were quite eggy and I'm not sure I was a fan. We ordered all the salads on the menu and all of them were good but the wedge salad was probably my favorite. For my main course I ordered the redfish which was served with mushrooms, crabmeat and grilled asparagus. I really enjoyed the dish, the portion was a bit small but the fish and the crab were cooked well and the lemon sauce perfectly complimented them. Finally, we finished off brunch with dessert and I ordered a bread pudding, which according to the menu is a speciality. However, I was quite disappointed with the bread pudding. It didn't have much flavor and was dry compared to ones I've had previously. I don't think I would order it again. Overall a great experience at Paulette's and if I'm ever in town again I would come back. read more

In addition to the charm of Mud Island's Mississippi River views, Harbortown's intimate charm, Paulette's beings upscale to the village. My Monday night experience with the chef's menu for $19.95 cannot be beat. I don't know how this place doesn't have a line out the door! I wom a recent contest held by Yelp and Paulette's, and was gifted a dinner for two to experience the Monday night special. Small, plush, intimate, upscale, describes the decor of Paulette's, nestled at the foot of River Inn. Our server Nick was fantastic, polite, and professional. My friend and I dined together and were able to choose one of two selections each for the appetizer, entree, and dessert. I enjoyed the cantaloupe soup, the beef wellington-ish (laters of the beef, mushroom duxelle, and puff pastry with sauce and asparagus), and an apple caramel crepe. She had the sunburst salad in lieu of the soup. The meat was cooked to perfection, the puff pastry was not undercooked but light and flaky. The soup was a first for me, and one of the better cold soups I have experienced. The apple crepe was absolutely delicious, the tartness of the apple cut through the fat and sugar of the caramel sauce and whipped cream. The Bleu martini was exactly as expected. Tip well! Let's not forget to mention the restaurant's signature popovers with strawberry butter. The facility was clean, everyone was masking as they walked in and all the servers and stuff were wearing masks. I felt safe and pampered. read more

We had no water, no drink menus, and no one to order our drinks. Our appetizers tasted terrible. We had to speak with the General Manager twice. Once is too many times. If it was a packed house and our waiter overwhelmed with tables, it may have been easier to understand our wait and lack of service. However, it just seemed that they really dropped the ball. Day three of our #DowntownDiningWeek tour took us to Paulette's. In the new downtown location, the setting feels lush. The old midtown location was more of a cozy feel. We were seated right in time. The onion soup was Delicious. I got the fish option. It was pretty decent. The beef option wasn't bad. The desserts were just okay. We each got different desserts and meals so we could try all the options. I'm still partial to Paulette's crab cakes, perhaps the best in town. But that wasn't on the Downtown Dining Week menu. read more

Well, flying solo tonight:( and was considering some oysters at Flight Restaurant which is never a bad choice but I decided to swing by Paulette's and dine at their bar. Wow...from the tempura shrimp appetizer to the Rack of Lamb...everything was just perfect and those pop overs, just kill me now. I feel like a stuffed pig; they were so damn good! The highlight of my three course meal, however, was the rack of Lamb. Simply outstanding! Perfectly cooked to a nice medium rare as requested with an outstanding demi-glace, served over a wonderfully prepared mushroom risotto. The entire meal experience was outstanding along with great service...kudos to my bar maid...she was great and makes a mean mojito. Highly recommend this place...one of Memphis' finest! read more

I am so disappointed with Paulette's. my husband I called ahead for reservations. but when we got there somebody hadn't written it down (I'm guessing) they seated us at a two top table next to a ten top table. it was so loud we couldn't even talk. the waiter really didn't have time for us. when we finally got our food it was cold. the waiter ignored us for the most part. we went there because it was our "35" year wedding anniversary! we have always gone to Paulette's for special occasions but no more. we were very disappointed. we will not be back. read more

We stopped for Brunch on Saturday, since I had been talking about how much I loved it when I went at Overton Square. We didn't have a reservation, but there were only 3 or 4 parties seated, so the hostess seated us immediately. The tables were lovely with a small vase and Rose on each. Elegant atmosphere, but in the center of the front room, near our table, there was a table sitting in the center and the carpet under it was noticeable cleaner, looked like a larger table had been there in the past. The hostess was actually our server, very pleasant and polite, but never asked if we would like a beverage or offer any suggestions, other than asking at the end if we would like a dessert menu. She brought popovers (their signature item)- unfortunately they were burnt on the outside and dry. The chicken crepe was good, but not as good as I remembered. My husband had the shrimp and grits and had never seen the unusual presentation with slices of country ham, but said It was well balanced and good, but again not excellent. We did not order dessert, I was underwhelmed and could not bear the thought of being disappointed in this. Sadly, I don't think I will return- with so many fabulous places in and around Memphis- no need to eat mediocre food. read more

My wife and I took a weekend in Memphis and stayed at the River Inn which houses Paulette's. The visit was not a great one. We were held in their waiting area for 40 minutes after our reservation time due to "staffing issues". Once seated our waiter was great but obviously stressed and overwhelmed. We informed him that we were not in an hurry just looking forward to a great meal. We ordered a nice bottle of Silver Oak Cab, which was the highlight of the meal / night. I ordered Crab cakes for a starter and my wife ordered the wedge salad. The salad came out warm and without blue cheese crumbles. My crab cakes were small and cold, it appeared they sat for awhile in the kitchen. For the main dish I ordered the Paulette's Filet while my wife ordered the regular filet. Neither meal was very good. My wife's filet was a poor cut, tough and stringy. The Paulette's filet was drowning in a butter cream sauce that was cool and badly flavored. I am sure this restaurant was good in its prime but appears to be declining. The general upkeep was substandard for a restaurant of this price range. There was notable dust on the paintings and fixtures and the carpet was stained in several places. We felt sorry for the wait staff as they were trying very hard to make the experience a good one but could not keep up. A gentleman who appeared to be a manager was seen scowling and very disinterested in helping out. I can not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are many fine places in Memphis and I would say fine one, not this one. read more
