Easily one of the best Spots in Midtown! We had an incredible dinner and everything we ordered was outstanding. The steak frites, croquettes, carrots, cauliflower, scallops, and an amazing bottle of wine were all phenomenal. Every single dish was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Our waiter, Matt gave us great recommendations that were spot on and truly elevated the meal. The Spanish tapas-style food was just downright delicious and easily a five-star restaurant! We can't wait to come back and try even more from the menu. Highly recommend! read more

We sat at the bar and had drinks and charcuterie. It was very tasty and plenty of food for 2 people! Good variety of cheese, meat, sausage, dried fruit, bread, mustard, jam, etc. The cocktail that is a variation on a Negroni was very good- preferred the smoked version to the sparkling. They were busy and service was a bit slow- seemed like they needed more staff. Great menu- so many things we wanted to try. read more

Wow. Cute, intimate spot where you either make a reservation or sit at the bar. Happy hour keeps the cost very reasonable, and the quality of the food is better than 98% of where I've been in Memphis. Let's talk about drinks though, Estrella Galicia Spanish beer and unique cocktails that are balanced, but leave a lasting impression. Did I mention basque cheesecake? I'm happy to eat or drink here. read more

Place is cool but the flow of traffic is weird. Walked in and couldn't find a hostess cause there's no hostess area. I asked for a MW steak it came MR. I sent it back and it came back well done. The fries however were my biggest issue. They were supposed to come with Parmesan and a chili oil. I can see and taste the Parmesan but not a hint of chili oil. They also came out cold and are more like potato sticks than French fries. The steak is literally maybe about 4oz but it is on the tapas menu so that was to be expected. Service is cool. Overall not really anything to rave about. read more

Food was pretty good but not a big fan of the layout of the restaurant. Super cramped. Plus no simple options for kids. And dark and loud. Idk man just not entirely my vibe. I'm kind of a super cool guy who only likes cool stuff, idk, that's just my vibe I guess. read more

First time visiting here and now this place will be a regular spot. Got seated quickly (we did have a reservation) and Matt was super great and helpful. We got two sangrias, the soup of the day, fried calamari, and different tapas. When I say everything was amazing, everything was. Nice place with a great vibe. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside. There is only street parking so be prepared for that. read more

Tónica is okay. Not bad not great. Their tapas are great! The entrée is not great! It is probably the worse paella that I ever had. It was wet almost soupy smushy smushy mush. Great cocktail and good atmosphere. They mess up one of the order and they fixed right away fantastic service. read more

I honestly can't say I agree with my fellow reviewers. Having spent time in Spain, we love tapas, and this place was one we'd been wanting to try for awhile. Romantic & intimate?? Not by a long shot! The acoustics are terrible and we had to shout to hear each other. The food is just average. I do love a dedicated spot on the menu for Gin & Tonics, and the drinks themselves were very good. We got a good chuckle at the end of the evening when our cute little server came to tell us about the dessert offerings. One was Basque Cheesecake. She asked if we knew what "basque" meant, and my husband answered that it is a region in Spain. She said, " nope!" and proceeded to tell us about the cheesecake. There is nothing here that would entice us to return. read more

A hidden gem that adds value! I was pleasantly surprised with great drinks and small plates at decent prices that delivered. The happy hour specials and lamb skewers are particular favorites. The service is solid and atmosphere is great. I need to visit their downtown location soon. read more

The food was great other than the salad, which was extremely small and disappointing for $15. Our server was fast and friendly. The restaurant was also pretty loud for the amount of people that were in there. Overall we greatly enjoyed our food, and will be back read more

The Memphis Supper Club's debut restaurant. What we found at Tonica was magical. An incredible wait staff first of all. They were BUSY but our food and drinks came out very quickly and our server killed it. The food was delicious. Very flavorful, very eclectic. Certainly something for everyone. Loved my drink, too, gin and tonic reeeemix. The bathroom was very cute, too. read more

Eh... this place is gonna make me skip way ahead in my review to-do's... mostly because we were having a perfectly 4-star evening until they served us paella mush-mush. I mean you only have two entrees on the menu, you can't mess up your only other entree this badly. Absolutely unacceptable... Paella mush-mush. read more

Tonica's downtown restaurant opened just 2 weeks ago. We just finished a fabulous meal there tonight and Ai wanted to give them 5 stars. The restaurant is beautiful, the menu has something for everyone (my wife is picky) - and the food is great. Best of all it is on Front Street behind the Orpheum and the Halloren Center - and walking distance to the Grizzlies games. read more

The atmosphere was very intimate, great for a romantic evening. 5/5 for ambiance. We ordered coquetas, papas bravas, lamb skewers, and sangria (my favorite thing ordered). Overall it was enjoyable and unlike any other restaurant in Memphis. I know they are supposed to be tapas, but the portions did feel a bit small (mainly the croquetas, which were my favorite food ordered). I would not order papas again. 4/5 The service was great. 5/5 read more

this was a tasty meal that my wife and I both enjoyed, we will definitely be back, except every dinner we pay for nowadays I'm reminded of the constant debasement of the US dollar and the purchasing power of our money being flushed down the toilet, but the food was quite tasty, and lovely cocktails were a nice distraction from macroeconomic turmoil and the looming end of our long-term debt cycle. ps my wife loves when I leave reviews like this. read more

Not bad, but nothing to rave about. Service is really great and the interior and outdoor patio are nice spaces to dine in. Vibe is great. Food is pretty average, but probably one of the better places to go in Memphis. I like that there is now a tapas style restaurant in the city, though, so that's a plus. My 4 star rating is pretty generous if we're rating only food. A lot of the dishes were pretty salty, like how most dishes in the south are flavored, so it makes it hard to appreciate the true flavor of the meats and veggies. Costillas de cerdo and gambas al ajillo were like this, though the meat was decently cooked. Overall, if you do get a chance to try tonica, I'd recommend getting 1-2 meat dishes and 1-2 soup/salad items to balance out the meal. I didn't like the sunday brunch as much as the dinner menu. Crepes were wayyyy too salty. They have a different menu, so it's more american brunchy style than tapas. read more

Loved the location and decor. Staff was pleasant but I wish she would have offered more of an experience through explanation of menu items. We love everything about Tonica - the food, the staff, the ambiance...everything! We come often for brunch and just love it! Lisa, Matt, Hannah, all of the staff treat us like family. We are pretty much creatures of habit and get the same things and they always remember our order. My husband gets either the shrimp and grits or the American breakfast with sausage AND bacon, because, well...why not? I always get the pan con tomate and breakfast potatoes. The toasts have a tomato garlic topping and are delish! The potatoes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Yum! I always get the mimosa with a splash of grapefruit juice and my husband always gets the spicy Bloody Mary! It comes with a variety of house pickled veggies that I usually swipe. Dinner is also always fabulous! They have the best (and biggest) gin and tonics. My husband gets the gin raw which is more like a traditional gin and tonic and I get the one with the grapefruit soda or the newest one called the tanqueray Sevilla with clementine! Soooo good. We always get a variety of the tapas. We share some and some are just for for each of us . I am vegetarian and my husband is gluten-intolerant so it's perfect for us. We like the chickpeas with spinach and the patatas bravas to share. I could eat the patatas bravas every day! They are crispy potatoes in a spicy sauce with a drizzle of garlic aioli. Yum! My husband gets either the garlic shrimp or the pork tenderloin with salsa verde (which is one of the best he's ever had). He raves about both. I get the pan con tomate which is different from the brunch version with grated tomato on top. It's super fresh and on garlic toast. We have gone with friends who have tried a variety of other options and no one has ever gotten something they didn't love. Would highly recommend! read more

Excellent service and nice wine selection, the Tapas were delicious and well priced. Overall a nice place to have a late night meal and enjoy some well made cocktails, nice decor read more

Great Memphis restaurant. There is nothing like it in this town which is refreshing from the boring BBQ and steakhouses. This is a tapas bar, great for crowds or a date night. Their drinks are delicious and they have a great wine list. You will not be disappointed. Also good for out of town business dinners for people who are not from Memphis. Listen I get it, not everyone likes the boring lifeless food scene here in Memphis. But this place sure does impress. It's definitely a 5 star restaurant for Memphis in terms of food, ambiance, location and just good drinks. The food can have more flavor but I understand the crowd here I Memphis is tough to please with their bland taste buds so I get it. Highlights Lamb skewers with the mole sauce Croquettes were crunchy and moist, incredible flavor Shrimp was plump and juicy Beef carpaccio was fresh with the pickled onions Seared pork tenderloin was melt in your mouth. Wish I had more Ok but won't order again Chicken wings... I guess it's for the boring people who don't want to branch out lol great blue cheese dip though! Barbacoa, it was good don't get me wrong, everyone at the table liked it except me, it had a certain funky taste to it and didn't have the spices that a normal Barbacoa should have. If you know you know Honorable mention paella was good, get the seafood one because the shrimp was great. We got the all meat one. Next time I will order again but seafood only because the sausage and chicken had a funky taste, a little livery? Very weird. The rice was cooked to perfection and seasoning was the perfect amount. Olive and cheese plate, great if you have a glass of wine but can easily do without considering all the other options Lemon olive cake was alright, kind of dry but the cream on top was delicious Overall a great place in the city of Memphis. I was losing hope in this town until I found this place. Pretty sure this is going to be on my rotation of restaurants in Memphis. (It's not much, I probably only have 3 that I like lol) yes I'm a food snob, I don't care, anyway you're welcome read more

Absolutely adored the atmosphere and energy of Tonica. Small space with a nice background noise of chatter from other guests. A seat at the bar was perfect. Their cocktails are thoughtful. I thought only slightly higher in price for what you get. The small bites accompanies their drinks and atmosphere well. Their Spanish dishes taste fantastic with several being apart of a new menu when we came. Not a single bad thing to say about Tonica. Great for any occasion you can think of. read more

The service was great for two people on a busy Sunday night. The vibe was upbeat yet relaxing. We had the chicken wings, ribs, lamb, pork belly and sautéed mushrooms. What a trendy and lovely little restaurant! Don't underestimate this either, what tonica packs in beautiful and modern aesthetics- it also packs in its very delicious tapas and drinks. I would absolutely come back and hope to become a regular. We mixed and matched varied orders of tapas including: + fried potatoes in aioli and spicy sauce (patatas bravas) + croquettes with serrano ham (croquetas de jamon serrano) + bread with tomato paste (pan con tomate) + fried pork belly (chicharron) + chicken wings (aliutas de pollo) + lamb skewers (brochetas de cordero) All of the tapas were simply amazing- rich taste, savory, filling, in overall *very* good. I would re-order all of these again, except the chicken wings and lamb skewers. The chicken wings tasted good, however, we are in Memphis and competition for delicious chicken wings is stiff. I also don't think chicken wings is something this Spanish restaurant is specializing in. The lamb skewers were absolutely delicious, however, the serving size (literally bite sized), for the price ($15) felt pretty high. Other than that, I can't wait to try out other tapas and re-order these- especially the croquettes and chicharron. As for the drinks, tonica is clearly a gin & tonic house. I ordered a roku Suntory and a spiced Bombay and apart from being beautifully crafted, both drinks were strong. I preferred the Suntory, but I noticed almost everyone in the restaurant was ordering the spiced Bombay. I came here on a date night and still think this is a great date night spot but it's also absolutely perfect for a girls' night out. Parking is easy to find. I am honestly so curious to try out their entrees, other sides and drinks. Noted the owner coming out during a visit to greet guests and help with orders. Strongly recommend! read more

Excellent! Great treat for brunch on Mother's Day. The banana crepe was out of this world, and I may have eaten the best Eggs Benedict of my life! read more

The food here is amazing! The gazpacho and grilled mushroom were delicious. The mushrooms were definitely the best mushroom dish I have ever tasted, and the paella snd white sangria were delectable! If this review was based solely on food, I'd 'd give a solid five stars. Unfortunately the noise in the restaurant was unbearably loud. There was lively live music, but I could barely hear it over the din of diners talking. My dinner companion and I had to yell to hear each other over the noise and we both left feeling like we'd been at a rock concert. It seems like this could be remedied with a ceiling treatment or other noise absorbing measures. I'd love to back and try more of their incredible food and drinks, but I won't do so unless something is don to dampen the noise. read more

I really liked this restaurant. The idea of a meal made totally up of tapas is a great idea. For our group we ordered a bunch to share. This included Croquetas De Jamon Serrano, Octopus, Patatas Bravas, Pimientos Albondigas De. Corero, Gambas Garbanzos, Grilled Bread and several others. Favorites were the octopus (has a very nice spice kick), pork tenderloin, lamb meatballs, gazpacho and garbanzos. The drinks were okay, but not great, including the sangria and a strange drink called an Everything The Light Touches which was not what was expected. Expected something close to an old fashioned and it is actually more of a desert drink with lots of cream and little bourbon flavor at all. What was good from a drink standpoint was the wine list. We had the Herencia Altes Garnatxa Negra, and it was excellent, especially for the price. From our group experience, skip the drinks, get a bottle of Spanish wine and you will be much happier and spend less. This is not your typical everybody get an entree restaurant, which makes it a great change of pace. Really liked it. One added complement for our server Chablis. One member of our party is allergic to garlic. Chablis made it a point to get the information on every item that either did not contain garlic or that garlic was in the sauce and could be served on the side. This made it a great experience for our no garlic friend as well. read more

Beautiful atmosphere, finally a place that feels intimate and special to me. Light walls, warm lights, beautiful art. I went with family and we all split many tapas. Awesome new restaurant in Midtown! The staff was super friendly and loved the interior aesthetic. Perfect place with to grab some drinks and a bite with your girl friends or even a date night, but I went to check it out with my dad and we had fun too! We had the Gazpacho, Croquetas de jamón serrano, Brochetas de cordero, and Chicharron. All were great, but the Brochetas de cordero (lamb skewers) were definitely our favorite-must try! I also loved the Croquettes de jamón serrano. Mostly a tapas and cocktails menu. The drinks were awesome! My dad had the ginraw and said it was the best gin & tonic he's ever had. I had the bar hill gin, also great. All of there drinks are garnished and look so pretty. We will definitely be coming back. read more

I lived in Madrid, Spain for 4 years, and this is the closest thing to authentic I've found since coming back. This place is really fantastic. It is a bit pricy, especially for the portions, but it's a must-try. Both sangrias are very interesting and unique. In my opinion, the best/most authentic tapas for me were the patatas bravas and the lomo de cerdo. I would suggest this as a pre- or post-dinner drinks/apps place. Can't wait to go back! read more
