For me, the Crispy Rice Noodle with Shrimp! These were purple for some reason... but SO DELICIOUS! Even with the donut inside, it wasn't soggy at all. The Beef Chowfun was also incredible and seasoned perfectly. My least favorites were the dumplings personally... the wrappers were just way too thick for my preference. So I would suggest anything else, especially the seafood!

My most recent visit [Saturday 08/22/26] was so very disappointing!!…read more Came here to enjoy brunch with my family. Our entire party consisted of 6 people and although there was a lot of hustle and bustle, we were able to be seated fairly quickly regardless of us not having reservations. I came here anticipating a wonderful experience and assumed I would be wowing my family with their very first visit with HL Peninsula Restaurant. While the visit was something they wouldn't soon forget, it wasn't exactly over something positive. Menus were provided and the young gentleman asked what kind of tea we wanted. We responded with the typical "chrysanthemum" and went on with viewing the menu. We meticulously wiped down the dinnerware and the tea pot arrives. Cups are filled and a bug is found floating in one of the cups. Since there were a few gnats flying about in the restaurant, I just assumed the gnat landed in the cup and died. I flag an employee and hand off the cup while requesting for a new one. New one arrives and I fill it up with tea. Again, THERE IS ANOTHER BUG. AT THIS POINT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE BUGS ARE COMING DIRECTLY FROM THE TEA KETTLE. Our entire fam stopped drinking the tea and I am forced to flag down yet another worker- this time someone more higher up. The gentleman immediately nods his head and grabs the tea kettle. NO APOLOGY, NO QUESTIONING MY ALLEGATION, NOTHING!!! Another staff member comes out with another tea kettle of chrysanthemum and I immediately decline. I request to have jasmine instead. Good move on our part because the jasmine loose tea was not bug infested. Brunch consisted of: * SALT AND PEPPER CRAB [LIVE CRAB @ 2.2LBS] * PENINSULA HOUSE FRIED RICE * SWEET & SOUR SPARE RIBS W/ FRESH PINEAPPLES * A4 WAGYU BEEF + ASPARAGUS W/ BLACK PEPPER * SHRIMP DUMPLING * PORK AND CRAB ROE SIU MAI * CHRYSANTHEMUM TEA Food was honestly really good. The tea situation was terrible and it says a lot when the employees didn't even bat an eye about the bug complaint. He calmly nodded his head and took the tea kettle which tells me the staff knew there were bugs in there. The biggest issue is not receiving a simple "sorry" over the disgusting mishap and me knowing damn well that HL Peninsula Restaurant will continuously serve that bug infested loose chrysanthemum tea. Do better, y'all. With all the money that you guys make, you can manage dumping that bulk tea purchased from China.

The place is kept up nicely, still clean and pleasant; and some decor seems relatively new. Ordered the usual shrimp dumplings, Siu Mai, Rice Rolls with Beef, Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce, and Egg Yolk Lava Buns. Also had a plate of Roasted Suckling Pig which is not available in too many dim sum restaurants. It's $32 for about eight pieces of crispy skin plus some meat and soy beans, a bit steep but delicious. Quality of their dim sum was still excellent. Service was average, as expected in a typical Cantonese restaurant. And 18% was automatically added as service charge. Food wise, It's probably still the best dim sum spot in the Bay Area.

Again, the food is delicious - no complaints there. It is a large venue so maybe that is why the service is lacking, but it is difficult to get the attention of the servers when you need something. However, if you have a server that pays attention (and doesn't look annoyed that they are helping you), then it is a much more pleasant experience. But that rarely happens. So, if you are there for the food, order everything up front, and don't need anything else the rest of the time - then you will be fine. It looks like they specialize in Rice Noodles, so definitely give those a try! Let me just say everything that you order here comes out steaming hot so it's not your usual cart dim sum style. This was something that I tried for the first time and really appreciated! Some of the things I tried: Steamed pork and taro chunks 4/5 The steamed pork was so juicy and flavorful. They also throw in some taro chunks which I don't typically see, but it was delicious. A classic dish that's definitely worth trying. Thousand year old egg congee 4/5 The congee here comes in a GIGANTIC bowl. This is definitely something to order if going in a party of 3-4. The congee has such a home feel to it and it reminded me a lot of my grandma's congee. This was delicious. The only thing I would ask for is, I wish they had black pepper here, because that would make this dish pop out so much more Egg Rice Noodle 3/5 I saw this and it looked interesting, but it wasn't anything I found special. It was good, but not sure if I would get this again. If you're a huge fan of eggs maybe this dish is for you! Shrimp and chives Rice Noodle 5/5 This was really good, and I would order this again. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and everything was so flavorful with that oyster sauce poured over the rice noodles. I enjoyed this dish a lot, and a perfect order if you're going in a party of 3. Shrimp and chives dumpling 5/5 This is pretty similar to the rice noodle dish. One thing that I have to note is the dumpling was very soft. I preferred this a lot, since my experience with this dish is many dim sum places tend to make the skin of this dumpling really hard. This made it more enjoyable to eat. Siu Mai (Ground Pork and shrimp dumpling) 5/5 This is probably my favorite dim sum order and they nailed this one! When you take a bite into that dumpling, it is so juicy. It carries an amazing scent when you take a bite into it and I didn't really ever notice this with other Siu Mai order's. A classic order, definitely would order this one again. Service 5/5 There service here is exceptional and staff is amazing. Extremely helpful, they brought out some chili oil for us since it wasn't on the table. Food came out exceptionally quick. Everything was awesome! One thing to note, this place is pretty small so you will have to wait outside if you are on the waitlist. Check this place out, definitely a top tier dim sum place if you are looking for quality and price. Everything is very cheap and they also offer affordable rice plates (around $12-13) if you were looking for a quick meal togo!

Look forward to returning for more chang fen.

Everything was well made and delicious. Food came out at a good pace. The standouts in my opinion were their Siu Mai and Fried Taro and Meat Dumplings. I am usually not a big Siu Mai fan but theirs were very tasty and juicy and fresh-tasting. They did a great job frying the Taro Dumplings. They were not greasy and the oil used seemed fresh. Service was very attentive, professional, and friendly especially because I've known our waiter Alex for over twenty years! Prices are fair for Bay Area standards. It's a solid dim sum spot.

I recommend asking for everything up front if you don't see what you want at your table. For example, certain condiments or dipping sauces for your dim sum or glasses of water, extra napkins, etc. Request that stuff when the wait staff first show up or when you order. The ambiance is your typical Chinese restaurant. Simple and clean enough considering how long this restaurant has been in business. Nice chandeliers. This is a to go only place, no dining room. Had the pork fried rice, braised roast pork, soy chicken and charshu pork. I like that their steam table includes something different than other Chinese to go places; not the usual orange chicken and beef broccoli type place. Steam table includes charshu pork, braised pork, soy chicken and more. The braised pork had the roast pork but cooked on soy sauce based sauce with a hint of spicy. The soy chicken had lemongrass and garlic flavor. Charshu bbq red pork was slightly sweet and tasted like bacon but a little gamey. Pork fried rice was well seasoned. Chowmein had a different type of noodles than what I'm used but had good flavor overall. Bought the fried tofu on the side. Tofu was topped with diced grilled onion and bell peppers which gave it a sweet flavor if you eat the toppings with the tofu. All steam table items were good. I would go back to try their dimsum and roast meat items. They also sell pre packaged food if you don't feel like getting the combo items from the steam table. Nice staff. Very reasonable prices with generous portions.
