    Sesame Chicken and Fried Rice

We were looking for a new place for casual Chinese food after our go to place shut down. Chen Wok nailed it! Amazing food and huge portions. The dinner combos a great deal! My daughter got the beef and broccoli and our son got the pork fried rice. They both mentioned that the vegetables tasted very fresh. It is also the first place we've found where the fried rice is brown...like we are used to back east. The amazingly friendly staff was the icing on the cake.

I used to eat here a lot many years ago. For some reason I stopped eating here. I don't know why maybe i just forgot about them but who knows. In the last 2 months I have ordered from them twice. A couple of days ago I went into this restaurant and my goodness the smell was horrible. I had already placed my order over the phone and I for sure did not want to eat the food that they were getting ready to give me since the smell inside the restaurant was horrible. I walked up to the counter anyway and told them I was here to pickup an order I called in and gave them my name. She told me the order was not ready yet. I then inquired as to what the foul smell was. The lady all of a sudden did not understand or speak English. I decided not to push the issue and decided to wait in my car for the food that at this point I knew I wasn't going to eat. However I had already paid for it. I went back in after about 10m minutes and now there is a young guy at the counter. I asked him what the foul smell was and of course he doesn't know. At this point the same lady from earlier comes out and says my name in English and I reach for the bag and she ask me if I needed soy sauce. I look at her and stated there is a bad smell in here do you know what it is from? She again doesn't understand. I leave the store and when I get home and begin to open the bags I am met with a familiar scent. It is the scent I smelled in the store. I take a big whiff of the food and it all smells like the smell in the store. I instructed my family to eat at their own risk. I advise of the smell in the store. In hindsight I should have just asked for a refund and not waited on the food. I took a picture of the food, but I assure you I did not eat it.. I took the picture to show that they have large smelly portions. :( I don't know what the smell was and maybe it was an off day,, but I just didn't trust it. I have had the orange chicken before and it was good.

When we got a table, we ordered using the QR code. It took a bit of time for our food and drinks to come. But the spot was pretty busy. Only saw the server when they brought our drink and our food, and when we ordered additional drinks. This is not like the typically hot pot spots where they bring you the broth and meats/veggies separately to cook yourself. You pick a "soup" premade and it comes to your table in a hot clay pot. It's a bit heavier broth. Definitely not what my taste buds enjoy. However my husband liked it. I don't think I'll dine here again only because I prefer the cook myself experience, simple ingredients, and lighter broth.

They had no complaints and almost finished it all off. They were thrilled to have leftovers though! Hubby ordered the Fish N Chips and the fish was super moist and tender, the batter light and crispy without being too crispy. He's usually not too into French fries, but he polished off the chips pretty quickly. I had the Irish Breakfast and it was amazing. Two fried eggs but with a warm, silky, runny yolk that I mopped up with the thick slab of brown bread was a great start. The black and white puddings were a wonderful surprise as the black pudding wasn't too mineral-tasting like some blood sausages can be to me. I actually wanted more! The fried potatoes were delightfully fluffy on the inside with a slight crispness on the outside. The rashers of bacon were a little salty for me, but when paired with the potatoes, they were perfect! I love coming back here!

Today is our wedding anniversary and we decided to do lunch at Panera in Surprise, Arizona…read more We were greeted at the door by the assistant manager, who welcomed us with a huge smile and a big welcome! Susan, the General Manager, welcomed us at the register. We ordered the You Pick Two: Chicken Cranberry Salad sandwich with Mac & Cheese; the Grilled Chicken BLT with Avocado with Mac & Cheese; a bowl of the Rustic Potato Soup, and two large drinks. Both meals, bowl of soup, and drinks were affordably priced. It was easy to find seating and we found a comfortable well lit table for two in their spacious dining room. There was practically no wait for the food and the district manager (who was visiting this restaurant for a day) helped me bring food to the table. The food was incredible! It was warm and flavorful. The texture was perfect! We learned a small hack to butter, our baguettes and dip them into the rustic potato soup. One of them were can express the taste: phenomenal! We have visited this restaurant in the past for lunch as we can afford to, and we have never been disappointed. We are so grateful that this location has not increased prices, decrease quality, or sacrifice portion size for the price we pay of the register. The staff is absolutely amazing! Words feel like it's a home away from home with good people and quality food. I have to admit that I have passed on the surveys sent to me by Panera in the past, but just felt lead to give overdue praise and credit where it's deserved. Her tomato soup tasted "like hot catsup", Yum. Oh, and my soup after correcting the wrong one ( they gave me onion instead of potato) after arguing with me over what I ordered tasted like flour and water with a few pieces of potato. And of course let's not forget the coup de grace, the stale cookie and my asphalt like chocolate croissant, oh boy. Most everything we ordered stayed right there on the table, as a silent 'peaceful' protest. When does this place go under?

That alone was frustrating, but the food was even more disappointing. The Vietnamese crepe we used to enjoy was completely off. It was thick and doughy like pizza crust instead of the light, crispy texture it used to have (which all Vietnamese crepes have, actually). We ended up throwing most of it away and just eating some of the veggies inside. The spring roll was another letdown. Basically all noodles, hardly any veggies or meat, and only "two shrimp" (really just one shrimp cut in half). I had actually read another review saying the same thing right before writing my update. My husband and I laughed since we were literally about to write the same. Customer service didn't help either. I had to repeat my order three times because the staff member kept stopping to talk to a coworker. It felt really dismissive. Even the Thai tea, while tasty, was only filled about 3/4 of the way. The only decent part of the meal was the vermicelli bowl. I'm not sure if ownership changed, but the flavors, portions, and overall experience were way off from what this place used to be. Honestly, you're better off going to the other Vietnamese spot nearby for better flavor and value.

The menu doesn't say you can't do that anywhere. Not on the board, not in fine print, nowhere. Instead of just making the order, I was told "you can't do that." No explanation. No logic. Nothing. I asked for the manager, and Zana wandered over. She had no clue what the policy even was. She had to stare at the menu board, then ask a coworker, just to come back and tell me no again, still with zero reasoning. Then she hit me with the most ridiculous explanation I've ever heard in a restaurant: it's "implied" that you shouldn't order two soups. Implied? By who? Because it sure wasn't implied to me, and it definitely wasn't written anywhere. Instead of owning the mistake or providing a real answer, she got visibly aggressive the second she was challenged, like I asked her to solve rocket science instead of a lunch order. When I asked for her District Manager to contact me, she took my name and number, but not before throwing out this gem: "Do you go to Panera Bread and do this too?" Yes, actually. And unlike Café Zupas, Panera doesn't whine about it. They encourage it. I left Café Zupas and went straight to Panera for a stress-free lunch. I even kept the receipt so Café Zupas can see how a real company handles customers. Bottom line: the menu is misleading, the manager has no command of the policies, and the attitude was downright unacceptable. If this is how Café Zupas chooses to treat paying customers over something this small, it says everything I need to know. I'll happily spend my money elsewhere.
