We used to really enjoy Chef Panda and even recommended it to several others. It was our go-to spot in the Surprise area. We usually order directly through the restaurant website for delivery. Unfortunately, our last few orders were overly oily and salty, which led us to stop ordering for about six months. Today, I decided to give them another try and ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp lunch through Uber Eats, but once again, the order was incorrect. The receipt clearly shows shrimp, yet I received what appears to be chicken instead. At this point, I'm extremely frustrated. This place is still my absolutely favorite Chinese food I've gotten here in AZ. I did notice a price increase but it's completely reasonable & understandable. Service is still extremely efficient and friendly. The inside of the store is a typical small restaurant space. What I find delightful are all the googly eyes on the animal pictures hanging up. Spare ribs are always absolutely delicious & a favorite. My other favorites are the beef skewers and salt/pepper calamari. OMGosh, so delicious. The salt/pepper calamari is buttery & I cannot explain why but it's absolutely amazing & I'm obsessed with this dish. It comes with sliced jalapeños on top for some extra spice & it's very happy. After spending several minutes, she determined that somehow my order was marked for a delivery service. We have used chef pan when they had their own delivery service and we found out the food was very good. unfortunately, it has been several years since we've eaten there, and since that time the food became extremely salty. our orders were full of liquid, which I assumed was the sauce that they cut the food in. Each of the orders came with a gigantic portion of white rice. at this point, I am uncertain if I could recommend them as a place to pick up food. However, it appeared that most orders were to go orders, it was dinner rush & everyone in there was waiting for their order. I really loved how the entrees had pictures so that you could also visualize what you were ordering. The generals tso chicken was good but the salt & pepper calamari was so good, just wished the jalapeños were spicier. I used to order from them all the time, primarily because they were very nice and very close. I am done. First of all, the fried rice is horrifying. It's like they just sprinkled some sort of powder and stirred it around. Secondly, anytime I have offered to pay extra for, let's say broccoli on the beef and broccoli and pay extra I don't get any extra. But today was the straw that broke the camels back. I ordered from the lunch menu for a total of approximately $22.40. Plus tax and a two dollar delivery charge. Fair enough. I am told when the delivery person arrives that they have accidentally charged something like $38. But don't worry, he says, they will fix it. I call the restaurant. The guy who answers does not know what the tax amount is in Arizona so I said well lets guesstimate that it's 8%. So when I add everything up it comes to something like $28.92. He still comes up with slightly more but I say that's OK. So then I say all you have to do is void the transaction to which he replies it doesn't work that way, it will take 2 to 3 days for it to remove itself from your account. I call Amex. What he said was not true. A void will disappear at midnight on the day in which the charge was made. I also find out there are actually TWO charges on my account, one for something like $38 and another for over $50. This is ridiculous. I am charged approximately $88 as a hold on my account for $24 worth of Chinese takeout? Are you kidding me?? So tomorrow morning I will call Amex and find out if these have been reversed. Trying it out for dinner Update.: Mongolian beef is sweet and has a weird after taste. Beef Chow Mein has a strange after taste...almost fishy. Orange Chicken is basic. I even had to mix the fried chicken and Sauce Fried Wontons (10 Count) Minced seasoned pork, centered inside of a crunchy wonton shell. Served with a side of sweet and sour. Fine dining? No. Solid Chinese? Yes. I walked into this place having not known it was even there. My go-to Chinese place was closed so having tried mediocre places in the area, decided to try this. I walked in, and the young man at the counter greeted me warmly. This is a walk up, order and then eat in or take out place. They also deliver. I asked him what was good. He asked me what I liked...type of protein, spicy, veggies/no veggies. I said any protein, spicy, any veggies. He pointed out some of his favorites, the number one of which was Salt and Pepper Shrimp. So I ordered it. I also ordered the pot stickers, steamed, and a side of Chui Chili Sauce. To spice them up. The food came out quickly. The pot stickers tasted home made, as did the Chui Chili sauce. Fair warning: it was spicier than the one I buy at Chinese grocers -Lee Kum Kee. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, sweet, crisp and large. It was a good sized order with chopped onions and peppers sauteed with the shrimp. They were spicy (not just from the black pepper), and since the shrimp don't come with a sauce, I used my left over pot sticker sauce and Chui Chili Sauce on top with the steamed rice. For no extra cost, you can get fried rice or noodles instead. The guy from the front kept checking in with me to see if I needed anything else. I appreciated his attentiveness. The atmosphere at Panda is hole in the wall Chinese with a dose of homemade thrown inn. Some of the tiny seating area is used to store supplies for the restaurant.
