The owner mistook me for a Doordash driver and made a rude comment about my being late. The food is not good with small portions and EXPENSIVE! The orange chicken tasted like honey chicken. We were looking for a new place for casual Chinese food after our go to place shut down. Chen Wok nailed it! Amazing food and huge portions. The dinner combos a great deal! My daughter got the beef and broccoli and our son got the pork fried rice. They both mentioned that the vegetables tasted very fresh. It is also the first place we've found where the fried rice is brown...like we are used to back east. The amazingly friendly staff was the icing on the cake. read more

Tried Chen Wok twice. First time would have given it 4 stars. Second time was only worthy of 2. So here I am in the middle. The first time I had it, I ordered the house fried rice, spicy orange chicken, and beef lo mein and all of it was solid. Was it the best I've ever had? No. Was it fancy or authentic Chinese? No. Was the orange chicken spicy? No. But the flavors were good, the portions were large, and the price was right. Everything was far better than a place like Panda or chain place. The second time I had it, I only got orange chicken. I didn't ask for it spicy this time but it was actually spicy which was a pleasant surprise but it was SO sweet. It tasted like candy and after 2-3 pieces of chicken felt pretty gross. I could feel the sugar between my teeth when chewing and wound up not finishing most of it. Very disappointing. I'll definitely be back to Chen Wok but I'm really hoping that my second trip was a fluke instead of my first trip. If it can be consistent, this could be an easy go-to takeout spot. read more

I used to eat here a lot many years ago. For some reason I stopped eating here. I don't know why maybe i just forgot about them but who knows. In the last 2 months I have ordered from them twice. A couple of days ago I went into this restaurant and my goodness the smell was horrible. I had already placed my order over the phone and I for sure did not want to eat the food that they were getting ready to give me since the smell inside the restaurant was horrible. I walked up to the counter anyway and told them I was here to pickup an order I called in and gave them my name.She told me the order was not ready yet. I then inquired as to what the foul smell was. The lady all of a sudden did not understand or speak English. I decided not to push the issue and decided to wait in my car for the food that at this point I knew I wasn't going to eat. However I had already paid for it. I went back in after about 10m minutes and now there is a young guy at the counter. I asked him what the foul smell was and of course he doesn't know. At this point the same lady from earlier comes out and says my name in English and I reach for the bag and she ask me if I needed soy sauce. I look at her and stated there is a bad smell in here do you know what it is from? She again doesn't understand. I leave the store and when I get home and begin to open the bags I am met with a familiar scent. It is the scent I smelled in the store. I take a big whiff of the food and it all smells like the smell in the store. I instructed my family to eat at their own risk. I advise of the smell in the store. In hindsight I should have just asked for a refund and not waited on the food. I took a picture of the food, but I assure you I did not eat it.. I took the picture to show that they have large smelly portions. :( I don't know what the smell was and maybe it was an off day,, but I just didn't trust it. I have been a loyal customer for 10 years..today was the end of that! I ordered $50.00 worth of food, 2 were the lunch specials. I paid $2.00 extra for fried rice upcharge on both specials. When I got home and opened them up I found white rice with soy sauce mixed in to make it look like fried rice. No egg or carrots just white rice with soy sauce. You can even see chuncks of white rice where it was not mixed in all the way. This is very upsetting as they did this on purpose..there are no sides of white rice with soy sauce mixed in that they could of put in by mistake....they did it to deceive the customer! I did call..she apologized and said they are under new ownership...that's even worse!!!! What else are they hiding? They offered to make fried rice if I came back in...I told her no, I'm not driving all the way back in. I told her I will never go there again!!! Total bs and shady!!!! read more

I am surprised with all the negative reviews. I just ordered from this place via Uber eats because I wanted some lunch. I got there orange chicken, which to be honest was supposed to be spicy. It wasn't that spicy. Had a nice kick to it. I liked that it was also sweet, but not overwhelming spicy which I was kind of hoping it would have more spiciness. Which would really give this review more of a 4 1/2 but you don't get those half options. I chose the fried rice/chow mein and I thought it was really good. The chow mein was definitely different than what I'm used to but it still tasted good. It also came with one crab puff and an egg roll. To be fair I thought I was going to get like a couple of crab puffs, but that was just me not reading the instructions or menu correctly. I want to see my total came to around over $20 but I also gave a really good tip to my Uber driver because he got it to me super fast. This is the worst Chinese food I've had in quite some time and that's saying a lot because the Phoenix area isn't exactly a hotbed for good Chinese. We ordered veggie fried rice, orange chicken and house chicken. The house chicken was like a salt lick for a goat. Totally inedible. My wife is usually the person adding salt to food saying it's not seasoned enough (when it is) and the first thing she said when she tried it is it's too salty. It was horrendous. The orange chicken came with sauce separated out into a container but the sauce was so hot it melted through the styrofoam and into the bag. It's hard to mess up orange chicken but this was likewise not good at all. The fried rice was also overly salty and felt disjointed with random huge pieces of veggies. It's a shame because it's so close to us but we won't be ordering from here again. Complete waste of money. read more

Best Chinese food I've had in Arizona for the 12 years I've been here. The Hot and sour soup was just the right mix and served very hot. The egg foo yung was a chunk of egg mix, vegetables and shrimp on top with a very tasty gravy. The chicken egg rolls were delicious and also hot. We also had the curry chicken which was good as well. This used to be our go-to Chinese takeout place for Orange chicken for over 15 years. Even when we moved 20 miles away, we still would make the trip because their food was that good. We would compare other Chinese restaurants to Chen Wok and nothing came close. It put Panda Express, P.F. Chang's, and other mom & pop restaurants to shame. All this changed in the past year as the business was sold to new owners. The new owners apparently changed the recipes, making both the orange chicken and crab puffs overly sweet and removed the depth of flavor. The Kung Pao, Beef & Broccoli and other dishes we tried all lost whatever secret sauce that made them so good. We've tried multiple times, both with our family and in-laws, and we all agree, the food is so bad that it makes Panda Express seem gourmet. Maybe the new owners want to appeal to teenagers who think overly sweet food is great, but they have lost us as frequent customers. read more

Couldn't believe the drop in quality of this food. We used to be big fans, but....... Had the Orange Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken and had VERY similar problems as recent reviewers Daniella S. , Bola G. , and A.H. have reported. My wife had the Orange Chicken which she said was dry, tasteless, and very chewy and tough. She became sick within 10 minutes of eating it and for 24 hours following (vomiting, nausea, and diarreah). I had the Kung Pao Chicken. The chicken meat looked gross. (unidentifiable pieces and tasted horrible). Veggies and sauce were okay. After seeing my wife's reaction, I too stopped eating and bagged up both whole meals and threw them away. $31.00 wasted including tip to delivery driver. Order taker and delivery person were nice, but I think we will not repeat this mistake again...should have read the previously mentioned reviews FIRST. read more
