I had a chicken pot pie and it had no real seasoning to it and the chicken they had with it my wife got the chicken Alfredo she said it was probably one of the worst Alfredo's she's had in a restaurant. There were 4 of us and we came in for a later dinner. My wife and I shared the vegetarian plate. We loved the sharing as we were not too hungry. We sat at the bar and the staff there were great. The other couple both had salads with the fried chicken. We all felt the dressing were ok, nothing great. Personally, I feel they could offer really good dressings and I'm so doing, drastically increase salad sales. Being a vegetarian, there were very few things I could have. So for me, I would not rush back unless I wanted a simple meal late at night. People sure love the food as they are pretty busy. From smiling host staff to kind and professional servers, they all get high marks in my book! So if the kudos won't bring you in to try this busy chain restaurant, try ordering the Chicken Fried Steak, hand battered chicken breasts served with 2 side choices, broccoli and baked potato - cooked perfectly tender and smothered in thick, tasty gravy. Had the baked potato loaded with bacon, cheese and sour cream too, so this was not a diet meal, hmmm good! My son ordered the chicken strip dinner, Buffalo style, with fries and corn - really good and leftovers to go. With all this food, we had to take a raincheck on the dessert round. And plenty of other meals to choose from, so freshly made soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and a variety of dinner entrees. My only watch out is that this is a very popular family spot, so be prepared for a seating wait during busy hours, weekdays and weekends alike. I brought my 98yr Grandpa out to eat a early supper, He really enjoys going to new places he never gone before. Our server was very sweet but seemed a bit overwhelmed with the tables she had and 3 had very loud young ones, I usually like to sit in Bar area to avoid this, but grandpa asked to sit near the kids. Food was very good, grandpa enjoyed his steak and took 1/2 home because he said he wanted to have leftovers for breakfast with eggs. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which I LOVED!!! I had not had a this sandwich in years and it is one my all time favorites. For so many years Cheddar's was THE place to go for a great meal. It's still good, but not what it used to be. Love this place, used to eat here all the time after church on Sunday. This is probably our last trip to here, because my parents are moving from Springfield and I will miss this restaurant. Food has always usually been good as with any place they have their moments... We had a large group (12) knowing Cheddar's we were there right at open because there will be waits if you get there much later. They got us several tables together very quickly which was awesome. Our waitress was good, she may have been nervous, because our group had some elderly people and we tried to make light of some of their comments and I don't think she ever smiled, but she was attentive and prompt. Largest area of concern was the tiles and restroom as they were very slippery as if there was grease on them, so just make sure your footing is secure. Food was okay, it was warm when it came out (probably our party size) as it took 30 min to get our order but that was fine everyone was talking anyway since my parents are moving. My daughters Mac n cheese had what looked like lent from a dryer in it, which we did not see until she had ate a few bites, waitress took it back and had a new bowl out to my daughter promptly. read more

A terrible experience! Showed to a table and took our drink order..an unsweet te a, iced coffee and a glass of Sangria. First she came back with sweet tea. Said no iced coffee... then waitress said nobody at bar to make drinks . Another 10 min then someone else said tequila was never delivered....waitress came back and asked if we were mad at her????? Drove all day from Denver and came here at 10:30pm to order my dinner to-go then went and checked in at my hotel. Service was friendly so I tipped 20% on my takeout order only to discover that they didn't include cutlery or napkins with my dinner which meant I couldn't eat my chicken fried steak or any of the sides (mashed potato and some casserole). I really don't understand why this place is ALWAYS jam-packed and why it gets such high ratings. From a place that advertises so heavily that everything is "made from scratch," I guess I expected something better quality than Applebee's or Chili's. Nope. Bland, dry, overcooked, you name it...it's on the level with every other chain restaurant. Nothing special here; there are FAR better options, even here in Springfield. I can only surmise that the fact this is busy and highly rated is a reflection on the palate of my fellow Springfielders...and not a good one (which is why I question whether restaurants like Progress, which actually serves real, fresh, creative food, can survive here). read more

St. Louis finally got a Cheddar's! When we happened to be in Springfield and there happened to be a Cheddar's why not try this one? I've been here before, but my trips were never super memorable. This time, eating with my super price conscious father and spicey conscious mother "If it burns going in, it's going to burn coming out." We all left Cheddar's full and satisfied. It was early lunch rush on Sunday and our service was perfect. We started with their version of Edamame, which came with a type of soy sauce and instead of salt, a powder/spice mixture that made the lentils more exciting. While my mom poured table salt onto her plate to use instead, everyone else liked it. The portions were huge and the prices were mostly under $10. We asked the server what Cheddar's was known for and she said the chicken tenders. I'm thinking to myself, how can you screw up chicken tenders, everywhere serves them... My dad and I both ordered tenders and they really were worth writing home about! The meat was tender and the breading was not overwhelming. Definitely a must-stop the next time I'm near one! read more
