Mama G’s Kitchen - Gizzard dinner. - Soul Food Near Me - Springfield, Missouri

Let me just start with saying this was the most delicious piece of cornbread I've ever experienced in my life. And that's saying something as I would never purposefully choose an edge piece. On top of that I was surprised to find that spaghetti comes as a side! It reminded me of cafeteria spaghetti, but not the bad kind you groan about when you see it on the menu, the kind that has you running to the cafeteria to beat everyone else. The spicy cabbage is just that, SPICY. I was only able to eat a few bites, but even under all that spice the flavor was excellent. The catfish strips were hot and tender. They even threw in an extra or two. Now the server, he was amazing. He greeted us promptly and went above and beyond. I have not had such a positive experience with a server at any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I didn't catch his name, but he was brilliant. The restaurant was clean, food was fresh, and plenty of seating. I'm very excited to visit here again! read more

We tried this place for the first time, I have to say we were totally disappointed. The service was terrible. The food was not that good. We had to wait a half an hour to get our food and then when it came out, it was pretty much cold. I would not recommend this to nobody they're friendly, but that does not help with the overall experience. read more

If you are a first timer, you are greeted with a hug. Very warm atmosphere, kind of like you are at home. I most definitely recommend this place for a good stop for lunch. I also had the deep feed rabbit and cornbread. OMG WAS THAT NOT GOOD. The rabbit had no game-y taste and the cornbread melts in your mouth. If we are ever this way again, most definitely stopping in at Mama G's here in Springfield, MO! read more

Delicious down home food- cornbread and smothered chicken with gravy were my favorites. Yams also tasty. Childrens burger was looking so good we all wanted a bite. Super friendly service. Was open later than hours on this site listed. It was busy on a Friday night but our wait wasn't too long. Not just a soul food spot, other options to tempt you as well. Great dinner! read more

The food is wonderful. Just do not be in a rush.. they cook it made to order. I've been 4-5 times and enjoy trying the two entree combo, trying something siffeeent each time. Partons are very big also, so can make it last 2-3 meals. read more

A slow Thursday; not busy as we got there around 4p. We got seated quickly and our server was professional. The breading seasoning tasted the like for the fish chips (mine) and JS's (fried pork chops). Liked the seasoning but the fish and chops themselves were just okay. The place was bigger than we thought when checked online for rec. read more

Found a parking spot so we tried it!! I really like that they have a smaller portion menu if you don't want a giant meal, and it's reasonably priced. The service was great, and our waitress very attentive. It's very open with high ceilings, and also offers a full bar. I had catfish, the wife shrimp, and the kid chicken fingers of course. My sides were fries which were pretty basic. My wife got the Mack and cheese which was pretty good, and my kid got hush puppies.. The fish seemed to have a pretty basic breading not bad but nothing special. My child's chicken was pretty good, but lacking something. I then added the Louisiana hot sauce to both my fish, and a bite of my kids chicken, and that made a big difference. It's almost like they expect you to add it.. It's all very good, but I just feel it could be over the top if someone just "put their foot in it." More seasoning definitely for us who grew up on Southern comfort foods. We will definitely be back though to try everything, and update our review. But they definitely deserve the 4 stars. read more

This place was PHENOMENAL! And even phenomenal isn't worthy to describe how fantastic this restaurant was. The prices were perfect for how much food you get, and the food was so delicious and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere of this place was wonderful! It had a welcoming feeling, and wonderful music! They had Bob Ross on the television, which I am a huge fan of, love Bob Ross. Our server, Micheal, was so sweet! He was very friendly and talkative, and made me feel like this was a safe place to eat and enjoy some wonderful soul food. This place has the best soul food in my opinion, because it literally was so good it made me feel like my soul left my body. Definitely will be coming back! read more

We only had dessert. It was priced reasonably but didn't seem homemade. Maybe we caught them on an off day.

We have eaten her many times and each one has been amazing. It's all the comfort of home and everything a southern girl loves. Tonight we enjoyed fried pork chops and okra in honor of my granddads 101st bday. Now I was raised by my grandparents and this one dish was everything and more without my beloved grandmothers loving and granddads stories. read more

This place delivers some of the most beautiful southern comfort food Ive personally ever tasted. Eyes eat first, that being said my mouth was watering at first glance. The smell in the car drive home was enticing, and those porkchops were calling my name. The exterior of the porkchops was crispy, crunchy, and seasoned exactly how expected. The greens were so delicious with that pork flavor and not too salty. The mac and cheese was so moist and not dry, and the cornbread was so moist and sweet I wouldn't be surprised if it was made there in house. The effort really shows through your food, and I will probably be eating here 4x a week haha. It warms my heart knowing this place exist where I live. Blew my mind read more

First time at Mama G's Kitchen. OMG! Meatloaf, smashed taters and gravy with collard greens and cornbread. Delicious. Next time, I'm going to have to get a double portion of greens and cornbread, and gravy on my meatloaf. I think I have found my Sunday Dinners. Having a meatloaf sandwich for lunch tomorrow. Portions are plentiful. This is a Fat Girl Dream!!!! Lovely!!! Ambiance is great! So peaceful and inviting! Even though they were about to close for the day, the food was fresh and the service was professional! Those chicken livers are off the chain! read more

Great food and atmosphere. Love the home cooking. Good value, congrats to Gloria on a job well done.

My friends and I went this past Saturday for lunch. We have been there before and loved the food. However, when we got close there was really loud music coming from the restaurant. We didn't know they only were serving a buffet and couldn't order from the menu. We thought, ok, our favorites would be on the buffet so we decided to stay. We asked the music to be turned down but they couldn't promise it would. We couldn't hear each other unless we shouted. When we got to the buffet, it was all breakfast items, no sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, cornbread, etc. They had catfish and chicken tenders but they would only give us one piece at a time. We were very disappointed and the fact that it was $20 per person. Apparently they have this the first Saturday of each month. But there was nothing on their website about this. Our fault for not looking at the items before we decided to stay. We'll go back when we can order off the menu, but won't ever go for the buffet. read more

My boyfriend has been dying to try mama gs since he heard about it, we finally got it yesterday and the food was absolutely amazing, not one thing I can complain about! We will be eating here again!
