We were traveling from St. Louis to Oklahoma. Outside of Springfield, MO we wanted to try someplace local but off the beaten path. After looking thru Yelp, we noticed "Time Travel Cafe" located in a small town north of Springfield. What a great place, I had the pulled pork sandwich with tater tots and my wife had the pork tenderloin sandwich with tater tots. Both sandwiches and the tots were awesome! We enjoyed the food so much we also ordered two slices of their homemade cheesecake. Once again the desserts were awesome! The reviews don't lie, the customer service was as good as the food! Walking in you are engulfed in an eclectic atmosphere. The young man staffing the counter was polite, courteous and attentive. I had the tenderloin sandwich and fries. It was one of the best tenderloins that I have had in quite a while. The fries were crisp, hot and very flavorful. Was in town delivering packages for Amazon and was getting a little hungry after my shift so decided to stop here. All I can say is Wow! The food was incredible. The tater tots were great and the bbq sandwich was amazing. the staff was incredibly friendly. Nice little mom and pop shop as well. Fun vibes. I live in Springfield but will certainly be making a trip back up here for this place. Can not speak highly enough of this little cafe. Bad. Had the cheeseburger and the tenderloin sandwich. Burger did not appear to be "fresh" ground beef, but a frozen patty, similar to the things you buy in a package at WalMart. It was WAY over seasoned with what tasted like McCormicks steak seasoning. It was small in size and thin. Not cooked very well and had that rubbery texture that is common with frozen patties. The tenderloin was average at best. Had a few strands of grissle and the batter pulled away from the meat easily, revealing a gray colored piece of pork. It may have been sliced from a pork loin, but was not from the tenderloin. Tater tots on the side that were obviously just poured from a bag into the frier. The taste and texture of both sandwiches were so bad we only ate half of the tenderloin and three bites of the burger. Overpriced for a counter service cafe, $ 21.00 with two fountain drinks. No wait staff, its all self serve. Lacked atmosphere, and the place was so quiet you could hear the kitchen staff laughing and joking in the kitchen. We don't recommend at we won't be back. read more

Amazing food!! Noticed the billboard and decided to stop in and have lunch. Rueben was fantastic! Fried Meatloaf sandwich was also very good! Owners whom also work the restaurant were very friendly and welcoming. Take a road trip and try out the Time Travel Cafe, so fun. My wife and I went there today for lunch. OMG! I had the fried meatloaf sandwich with deep fried mushrooms. Couldn't ask for a better meal. My wife had a Reuben sandwich with okra. And again, yum!
