I've been in town for 4 years and didn't know this place existed until yesterday I accidentally stumbled upon it. Maybe more people would know about it if they put some out by the street. Anyway generally the food is good. What i didn't like was while the waitress didn't necessarily lie she wasn't entirely forthcoming about whether the biscuits/gravy had sausage in it. She said yes but it really just had a smattering of sausage. And it was just small minced pieces. So technically yes it has sausage in the gravy. read more

went to cedars south today July 11th. ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast whith hash browns and biscuit and gravy. I could barely saw thru the edge of the chicken fried steak so told the waitress to just take it away, she took it off to the side board and proceeded to cut the middle out and asked of I wanted it cause it was more tender. I told her no just take it away, ate the eggs and abouy half the hash browns, then went to tear the biscuit up to pour the gravy over and found a piece of rubber in the biscuit, called her back over and she took it away. By this time, appetite was gone. She brought another biscuit, told her no thanks, jusxt the check and a box because girlfriend had lost her appetite seeing that too. she tooka whopping 3 dollars off our ticket so I basically paid 10.00 for two eggs and hash browns. read more

Good lord, the portions sizes are crazy huge. The food is that wonderful down home cooking you'll rarely find at decent prices like these. It's not fancy inside, in fact they probably haven't redone the place in ten years or so, but it's super clean, and by that I mean spotless. The Cedars Hash Browns are a meal in themselves, with so much cheese, onions and ham in them that I couldn't even finish them. The wife had the chicken fried steak off the breakfast menu and then asked the waitress if it was actually pork tenderloin because that's what it looked and tasted like. The waitress said of course it was because that's how you make it. My wife is from Texas so the look on her face was priceless, but she decided not to argue because she said it tasted great. Cedars, your typical, local Midwestern diner. My boyfriend had been wanting to take me here for a while due to nostalgic memories and just general Springfieldian things. We showed up pretty late for dinner, but the place was still pretty busy. The waiters and waitresses were very attentive and got us seated shortly within our arrival. Menu, super good and breakfast served all day. We were able to quickly make a decision and order our food. Our server, Amanda, was really efficient and knowledgeable about the menu and very upbeat. I ordered a steak and eggs breakfast meal, with biscuits and gravy, and hasbrowns. I upped my order to the fancy hash, with cheese, ham and veggies. (Super good choice.) My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak -- breakfast style -- and a side of a pancake. Everything was great for what you could expect from a traditional diner. Delicious, home cooked feel and super feeling. We definitely got full off of our meal. Fav thing: the biscuits were very fluffy. Almost like three biscuits in one. I would go back just for those biscuits, and those decked out hash browns. Oh, and one cool thing to mention is the breakfast menu had an ala carte menu where you could pick and choose individual items to make a plate. I think I would try that sometime. read more

We were looking forward to having lunch here today (Tuesday) I had read that the fried chicken and the catfish were delicious here. Well, neither were on the standard menu. When I asked our server, I was told that fried chicken was only served on Wednesday and catfish only on Friday. OK. We ordered hot beef and mashed potatoes, with gravy. Goodness, what a mess. Gravy was congealed on top of flavorless beef and bread. The mashed potatoes were really good tho. I doubt that we will take a chance on Wednesday's fried chicken or Friday's catfish. I love a good Cedars breakfast any day of the week! We love to come by for a big breakfast or a brunch. I love the country fried steak, biscuits and gravy, the pancakes, and any of the omelettes. Recently I had the country fried steak, two eggs, and hash browns. They will make your hash browns extra crispy so if that is a thing you like (I love them almost burnt) then this place will make you very happy! They get busy so plan to either wait or come early or later. They serve breakfast all day and are open to 8 pm. They have another location on West Bypass and I believe it has the same hours. The most hilarious experience I've ever had with a server. After asking my mother and I what we'd like to drink and I had asked whether or not they had Coca Cola or Pepsi products, she replied "Pepsi", then asked my mother her choice. After my mom chose she walked enough and brought me a Pepsi which I hate Pepsi lmfao. The food was eh. My fathers oatmeal was mushy and didn't get his glass of milk. She said, "Oh yes, we make our own onion rings from scratch. We also hand cut all our own meat and make everything from scratch." I know I tasted something different. It's called quality! You can't get THAT at a Waffle House. Cedar's food is like what your Ol' Southern Granny use to make when no one cared about calories or cholesterol. Didn't have a Southern Granny? Well, you don't need one. Eat at Cedar's and pretend you do! The place is small and sparsely decorated. You might even walk in and think you made a bad decision, but DON'T leave. Give them a chance. The menu is short and sweet with something for just about everyone, unless you're a "new-fangled vegan fella". In that case, order the onion rings and a sweet tea and you'll still have a good time. My husband, myself, and 3 kids aged 11, 9, and 2 were all extremely happy with our food, the service, and the "where everyone knows your name" atmosphere. Cedar's is now on our list of places to stop when we are passing through Springfield. I have reviewed Lambert's Cafe and I think that place is great, don't get me wrong. But Cedar's is like Lambert's little cousin. Good home-cooked food at half the price and no wait! We have been going to Cedars for years and love their food and have recommended Cedars to our friends and family, but the last two times we have eaten at Cedars we have been treated rudely. We ask to be seated along the wall because we do not like to sit in the middle of the restauant. Both times, the waitress rolled their eyes and acted all mad about it. Monday, 4/8/24, after we were seated, a different lady took over and everything was fine, but today, 4/11/24, the waitress that seated us and the one taking care of us, were the same lady. She was rude, never once smiled, didn't check on us to make sure everything was ok, and had an attitude with us. Our food was fine, it was just the employee. We always leave a nice tip, but today, for the first time, we did not tip. We realize they are short staffed, and at times they do get busy, but to be rude to customers is a huge put off, and makes us not want to return. read more

There is a very cool painting on the wall demonstrating the old time vibe of this place. The service was exceptional. They gave my brother the wrong drink. I ordered the bacon breakfast it came with two eggs, and hash-browns and toast. I also got the hot cakes, and all of it was amazing! As a fifteen year old growing boy I received my meal at 10:19 and finished at 10:29. Everything had great flavor including the bacon which was amazing. I got the two egg with bacon daily special- eggs were cooked exactly how I asked for them, bacon was AMAZING- which is rare for a restaurant. Got hash browns with cheese and gravy with a biscuit. For only $4.99! Coffee was fresh and tasted amazing as well. My brothers GF got the omelet, and she loved it. My brother got their French toast with strawberries and cream, and he loved it as well!
