Visited for the first time today but we will be back. This was the best meal I've had since being diagnosed with Alpha Gal and MCAS. I felt safe and respected which is not usual with food allergies. Andrew our server was so helpful, kind and just all around wonderful. When I ask about the food he was excited to show me that they had an actual alpha gal menu. He answered all my questions patiently and with knowledge rarely shown while eating out. The salmon was perfection, the carrots and broccoli were heavenly . The spicy coconut hot cocoa is definitely spicy; very flavorful and different. I had the Zeeland Salmon and the Bitterballen as an appetizer. After being in Amsterdam recently on vacation & absolutely loving the food there we were pretty excited to try Van Gogh's for as close to "Authentic" Dutch food as possible. Stepping in we enjoyed the warm atmosphere in what appeared to be an Historic looking building & we were seated immediately. We ordered the Poffertjes Platter ( Baby Pancakes, 2 Egg Skillet w meat ) & the Opas Meat scramble ( 4 Egg scramble w Ham, Bacon & Sausage w one Pancake ) Our meals were served quickly but honestly both of us were at least slightly disappointed because nothing seemed very Authentic, especially the Pancakes. In fact another person's review said the food wasn't very hot at all which we both agreed with. Our server, Crystal, did a great job of taking care of us despite the food being quite unremarkable. Some day we will try this restaurant again but it won't be anytime soon. read more

What a delightful and completely unexpected gem in downtown Springfield, MO. This Dutch restaurant was a true surprise!! and I say that as someone with nearly 2,200 Yelp reviews under my belt. I can't remember ever stepping foot in a Dutch restaurant... let alone in a charming little corner of the Midwest. We parked a block away due to our RV, but regular folks will find plenty of spots right in front. From the moment we walked in, it felt like something special. My husband ordered the spice cake latte, which smelled like a spice cookie and he reported that it tasted just as good. And believe me, he's not usually one to wax poetic about a cup of joe. Hubby had the breakfast plate with eggs and asparagus (and a lemon sauce), which came with honey cake on the side. I went all in on the traditional Liege waffles! doughy and sweet with authentic pearl sugar baked right in. The syrup was unique, somewhere between molasses and maple - not exactly my cup of tea, but I get it. The waiter recommend the sausage, DO NOT SKIP THE SAUSAGE HERE! (kinda like a kielbasa situation). My eggs were cooked to over-easy perfection. I actually struggled to scoop up all the delicious yolk with just my fork. The service was also excellent and the bathrooms were clean, which is always worth noting. If you find yourself anywhere near Springfield, do not miss this place. We waited about an hour for our food, and it honestly felt like our order may have been forgotten. The only explanation we got was that the kitchen was backed up, but there were only a few tables, and people who arrived after us were served before we were. When the food finally came out, it was pretty disappointing. The Bohr sandwich was very plain, the White Tower lacked flavor, and the sauce tasted like it came straight from a can. Even the ketchup just tasted like regular ketchup with cumin added. The mini pancakes were also bland and underwhelming. A friend and I went around dinner time and it wasn't busy. No wait for a table. It's cute and quaint inside. Decaf latte was fabulous. I had a soda and the fizz was perfect not too syrupy. I am not a Mac and cheese fan but I am a sucker for pesto. The Chicken Pesto Mac and Cheese was delicious. It had mushrooms and broccoli as well. Not a fan of cooked mushrooms due to the texture but I ate a few since they were included and they really weren't that bad to me. The Peace fries were a different kind of taste for me but still very good. A ketchupy kind of curry flavor. Ambience is perfectly lovely, soothing and well designed but reflective surfaces everywhere make it quite loud for a pleasant dining experience at least in the front seating area where we were. Served was attentive, made excellent recommendations but toward the end had to wait 10-15 mins to get her attention for bill. Exotic menu filled with interesting Dutch-centric entrees: we choose the Spricy Seafood Mac & the Porkchop. The Spicy Mac borders on mouth burning but what Oncojld taste was quite a pleasant balance of seafood to noodle in creamy sauce; Pork Chop was rather tough and lacked in flavor, side of asparagus was beyond al dente for a bit soggy eating. Coming from out of town, a small city with little food diversity, we were excited to try something a little different. Sadly, the issues started shortly after we walked in the door. We stood next to the host station while an employee stood there looking right through us. It probably took a full minute for her to finally acknowledge us. We were asked if we had a seating preference, which was appreciated. After looking at the menu, we sat for a very long time before anyone came around to check on us. The restaurant was not very busy at the time, and we saw several employees walking around. Our server finally came over and apologized. The food came fairly quickly, and we both enjoyed our meals. Then we waited for our server to stop by. We saw her wandering around the back half of the restaurant but not waiting on other customers or seeming to do any work. Finally she came over, said she forgot all about us and apologized again. She told us she'd be back with the check soon. Again we waited, and again we saw her aimlessly wandering around. At this point, we were ready to call over one of the other servers for help when she finally came over and for the third time apologized and said she forgot about us. If I was basing our visit on service alone, I would hesitate to give it even one star. Three stars for food and ambiance. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by my dining experience at Van Gogh's Eeterie. First, the ambience was quaint and very welcoming. It was casual but could just as easy be an amazing date night. Their drink menu has something from everyone from wines to on tap beers to wonderful creative cocktails. I enjoyed "Ginger I Hardly Knew Her," which was amazingly. Deep Eddy Orange Vodka, dry curaçao, lemon ginger syrup, lime juice and ginger beer garnished with an orange wheel. Well worth $9. Not overly sweet and not overly strong, a perfect balance. I would definitely order this cocktail again. For dinner I opted for Meatball Zuurkool; Dutch meatballs with brandied gravy, served over mashed potatoes blended with bakon and sauerkraut and served with French bread. It was topped with three asparagus spears. $15.99 this was well worth it. The meatballs were very flavorful and the gravy was a perfect compliment. I loved the idea of blending sauerkraut with the potatoes it didn't dominate the flavor of the dish and allowed the meatballs to standout. I finished my dinner with a house made berry compote and cream cheese Danish for dessert. Made in a phyllo dough crust it was a perfect compliment to a delish meal. Next time travels bring me to Springfield, I'll definitely return to Van Gogh's Eeterie. I definitely recommend this local establishment. Thank you for a memorable dining experience. read more

My family had a reservation for 6 (including one kiddo under the age of two). The staff was very kind and attentive. All of the food was enjoyed at the table, but personally I ate the bitterballen appetizer and the Meatball Mac. Both were delicious! Right off the bat we weren't impressed with how long it took to get a table ready for 5 of us. With tables way in the back that had no people clearly ready to go but they had to act like they had to do serious stuff to get it ready. So after that it started to get better. Terrific breakfast experience in Springfield! I can't wait to return here to explore more of their unique menu offerings. The Poffffertjes puffffy baby pancakes, powdered sugar, butter, & apple stroop ($5) was the perfect starter as we came in super hungry. It's a crowd pleaser because it's pancakes, but the apple butter-esque addition leveled it up a notch. The White Tower is a savory pannenkoeken with chicken, garlic lemon bechamel, sunflower pesto, cheese, arugula ($13) was absolutely delicious. This was the table favorite, hands down. All of the the savory pannenkoeken offerings looked so unique and the combinations of flavor pairings we tried worked so well together. I had the Red Light Madame which is honey cake french toast stuffed with smoked sausage, bakon, cheese, fried egg, topped with sambal and powdered sugar, side strawberry & banana ($13). I liked it, but next time I'll explore other things on the menu. I typically lean more savory than sweet in the morning, so I'm not quite sure why I ordered this very sweet leaning dish, but it was good. The signature honey cake reminds me of a dense spice cake. Don't sleep on their coffee offerings! They offer oat, almond, and coconut milk substitutes. Their Iced Koffie w/ Cream was perfect. Though I completely overlooked their golden milk (turmeric) latte and next time I want to try that! We went on a weekend morning and we were seated promptly, nabbing one of the last open tables. Our waitress was great. She was helpful and around when we needed her. When dining at Van Gogh's I didn't feel like I was in Springfield, MO, I felt like I was in somewhere in Europe, but with better bathrooms lol. The ambiance is so fun. There are tall ceilings, fun flags and ample seating. The morning we stopped by it was absolutely storming out so we were very happy to have lots of close parking available. Upon entering the atmosphere was very subdued with colorful lights that smoothly highlight the wall, various bits of art including a Dutch windmill and background instrumentals that played music from Imagine Dragons to the Phantom. We ordered the Dutch pancake which my daughter said was delicious, she absolutely loved the apples. I ordered the gluten free Aruba and was shocked at how well all the flavors came together. The sweetness of the fruit with the savory sausage was fantastic and their syrup was delicious. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server brought waters while we looked at the menu. I ordered liege waffles with eggs and fruit, and my partner ordered the vegan boerenkool. Though the restaurant was really busy, our food came out pretty quickly. My liege waffles were just what I expected in terms of size, texture, and taste. The addition of eggs and fruit (in lieu of bacon) made for a filling meal. My partner enjoyed the "meatballs" with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and sunflower pesto. The interior of the restaurant is large, and high ceilings keep the noise level reasonable. There is plenty of Dutch decor to enjoy too. This is the third time I've been to this restaurant. My second time left much to be desired but I wanted to come back for a redo. I only came in for a coffee and dessert. They seemed very short staffed and a little rushed but I was in no hurry. I ordered a regular coffee and my mom ordered the macchiato. It took almost twenty five minutes to get our coffees and dessert and my black coffee was forgotten so I had to ask for it again along with another spoon for the dessert as we were splitting it. What a surprise on Commercial street just across the Jefferson Avenue foot bridge that's been there over 100 years.
