Stopped in Friday evening and loved the location and historic vibe, but the space felt like it could use a refresh. It was very quiet at 7 PM, and overall the restaurant seemed a bit worn and in need of some attention. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. A little different than the Mediterranean food that I have experienced. As a true ultracrepidarian, I could (but won't) guide and enlighten you about nuances, characteristics and eminences that make Lebanese cuisine distinct. Chow that is similar, but different from that of the many other countries residing on the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. If you are familiar with Lebanese food, scroll on to something else. My superficial knowledge of the food will be apparent; failing to demonstrate any mastery of the subject matter at hand. In addition, this review lacks terribly in writing proficiency. So. For the rest of you that have not tried Lebanese; this is a must try, "IF" you like Mediterranean food. Enough. To the point. There are three items at That Lebanese Place, that I rate as excellent. And that is compared to all other Mediterranean food. 1. Beef Kafta Entrée, 2. Tabbouleh, and 3. Lebanese Salad (unique delicious). Enjoyable, you won't go wrong with these. The Chicken Shawarma Entrée, Meh, too much cinnamon for me. Now try something new, Fool! That was not a personal attack. That is the name of the dish. Makdous is also something that everyone should try. (see pictures and menu) I'm not getting into the details of either. I don't want to influence your first impression of the food. Small place, comfortable, in a historical building, downtown. Parking nearby. Food made fresh, so it takes a few minutes. Service, Friendly/adequate. I still like Greek better. read more

I was so looking forward to a Friday evening dinner here! Based on the great reviews we called and made a reservation. That was very evidently not necessary. It was like a ghost town on a Friday evening. We sat and my husband ordered a coffee which the waitress clearly did not approve of, but reluctantly delivered him his "too strong" coffee. It was strong, which is exactly what he wanted. The food was so lackluster. What added to the disappointment was, the pita was not homemade. That was obvious due to the fact it was served cold and nearly stale. There were packages of the pita out in the visible areas. Ive never had Lebanese food before but the only dish that I didn't feel like it needed salt was the wrap. Everything else needed salt. Maybe it was an off night? I'm not sure but for 2 people, $60 seemed like a steep price. I am not in a hurry to go back, nor do I recommend this restaurant. read more

This is my second visit. Food was so good! The floor sign encouraged my decision to try an appetizer outside of the Baba Ganoush. Tender steak Shawarma with rice and chicken shawarma wrap. Also had the beet salad. All the open tables were dirty so we saw a couple of people leave instead of waiting on a table to be bussed. Service was slow until the owner showed up and started bussing tables and connecting with customers. He changes the whole experience. Can wait to have the food again read more

The Food is traditional and fairly priced. The Service is amazing when the owner is present and running the front of the house. In comparison to Lebanon 1975-1990 the ambiance is heavenly. One reviewer noted the use of a microwave... I did see the microwave being used sparingly to refresh specific items. No difference than any of us would use a microwave to refer our Warak Enab. My wife and I return each time we visit Springfield MO. We have yet to find Lebanese food the can compare in STL. read more

However, I have been back many times since. My favorite things to get are the hummus, falafel, and the Lebanese salad. This place is a MUST! You cannot pass it up. We had the family shareable and it is the perfect choice to sample a variety of their delicious options. Another delight was the labneh, which is the best I have tasted. So much so, that we got an extra order to go. I would be remiss if I did not mention the delightful baklava. Needing a change of pace from the typical burger and fries fare, we decided to check out and check into That Lebanese Place. Even if you don't care for the fare, you definitely want to make friends with the owner. It was suggested that we partake in the Meal for Two. This is NOT the wrong choice. Just enough of nearly everything on the menu to make you come back asking for your faves. The baba ghanoush was tasty, the soup warm and hearty and the apps flavorful. (Even the grape leaves!) And just when we thought we were done, out came the main meal! Kabob meats cooked to perfection with a side of sweet slaw. Mmmmm. I did mention to the owner that the basmati rice was a bit salty. He offered to immediately replace it. But I'd already eaten it. I'll know to ask for it lightly salted next time. Be sure to add a pot of the tea with cardamom. Perfection. read more

We had dinner at That Lebanese Place in Springfield tonight for my belated birthday. We started with humus and babaganoush with warm pita. The main course was chicken kebabs, ribeye kebabs, kafta, chicken shawarma, beef/lamb shawarma, stuffed grape leaves, falafels, aaaaand French fries all served over basmati rice. It was all really great! The meat had great char, the falafels were hot and crispy and flavorful, the stuffed grape leaves were sour and salty and tender, Ethan loved the shawarma sandwich and the fries were just the really well done fries everybody knows and loves. To top it off, the owner was one of the most genuinely friendly and warm individuals I've ever met. We discussed him coming over from Lebanon, buying his first food truck, and how his food was diffent from other similar versions these dishes. He also tried to get Aaron to work in the kitchen with him. I'm legitimately disappointed I didn't get his name. If you're feeling adventurous, give That Lebanese Place a try. read more

It was the first time my family and I have been here, and it was a great experience. I had the beef kafta kebab and it had so much flavor and was juicy. The Lebanese salad was full of flavor as well. All of the different flavors compliment each other. We also tried the pistachio baklava for dessert. It was pretty tasty. All of the food was really delicious. We would go here again. Let me start by saying the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The first thing I noticed was how dusty the dining room was. This place hasn't had a deep cleaning, dusting etc in a while. Even though the decor is older they can have the establishment looking cleaner. When I walked in I went to the booth to sit and the server said if there isn't a menu on the table then it needs cleaning. There was only ONE table clean. I love Arabic food and based on past places I've eaten I would rate the flavors here a 3. I had the platter for two which started with a pita bread and baba ganoush. The pita bread was served COLD and the server literally just pulled it out of a bag that was sitting at his counter. This was the pita you buy in the bread aisle at Wal-Mart. I had to ask him to warm it up and he told me he will microwave it. The babaganoush was also ice cold which tells me it came straight out the refrigerator. Next came the lentil soup. Very lightly flavored and watery but at least it was served warm although I would have preferred hot. We then received the falafel, stuffed grape leaves and tahini sauce. The falafel was nice and hot and crispy. The grape leaves he MICROWAVED and brought to us as I heard the ding of the microwave at the counter where my pita was warmed up and he walked over with the plate at the same time. The tahini sauce was watery thin and very lightly flavored for my taste. Up next was the entree which consisted of one plate of food for two to share. Rice, coleslaw, chopped tomatoes, chicken sharwma, beef, lamb and chicken kabob. The rice was " rice ", no flavor. The kabobs 3/5 flavor wise. We ended with coffee and baklava. The coffee had a lot of sediment at the bottom of the cup like thick molasses. The baklava was HARD AF! Barely any syrup to make it soft and edible. It was so hard my fork couldn't cut it, I had to pick it up and eat it like a cookie. Being that the food was OBVIOUSLY NOT FRESHLY MADE and most things were microwaved, God alone knows how many days or weeks these items have been sitting in the refrigerator. If I do return the two items I would order again would be the falafel and the lamb kabob. read more

Excellent food!!! Let me start this off with saying you just have to go here. We are not fans of curry so didn't think we would like it. However the hospitality is what will draw you in at first. This is a family run establishment!!!!!! The owner will be taking care of you. He did a great job explaining the cuisine to us. For our family of 5 he suggested the family meal. So we could try lots of different items on the menu. It also saved money from us all ordering separate entrees plus apps. He brought us hot tea. Which is very good. I tried the Lebanese code after dinner. He has a great story to go with it. There was enough for us all to try it . Being a Midwest family not much on trying different cultures cuisines. I absolutely recommend eating here! We were immediately greeted by Elie, who was incredibly enthusiastic and friendly! We weren't entirely sure what we wanted to order, so he recommended the Dinner for Two because it was a good sampler of their different menu items. That's what we ended up with. We were first served pita and our choice of hummus or baba ghanouj (we chose the baba ghanouj). It was absolutely fantastic. We were then served lentil soup, which was also delicious. Next came dorma and falafel. I personally didn't love the dorma - just a different taste for me. But my mom liked them! Finally, we were served the entree (after we were already full!), which had chicken, beef, and lamb skewers with basmati rice. We also ordered a Lebanese tea kettle with the cardamom black tea, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It was a lovely cultural experience and felt like eating with a new family! 10/10 would recommend. Four of us got together for lunch. None of us have been here before, but have wanted to try this place for a long time. We were greeted at the door by an exuberant guy...most likely the owner & chef. After being seated, he got our drinks, and helped advise us on the menu. Two of us took the suggestion - getting the dinner-lunch meal for two. I got the Fattoush salad with chicken. The final member of our foursome got the Beef Kafta Kabab. I watched as the chef brought serving after serving to the first two - all part of their lunch for two. The Kafta came with a large bowl of lentil soup, which I didn't stop hearing how good it was from two who got that soup with their meals. And an order of Baba Ganoush came with the meal for two...again glistening while I waited for my salad. Finally, after 3 courses down, the main meals arrived! And I was served first, because chef felt bad for me having watched all that food go by! Not a word said as our foursome continued to devour the various platters. Until the first 2 couldn't eat any more, and started raving about coming back and getting different things because all was so good. And so, a plan was born - to keep coming back until we tried all of the menu! As the others traded, tased, and commented about their meals, I stuck to my diet and finished my salad with chicken. It was excellent and more than enough. My closing thoughts... get the Family meal for four next time. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place out for ages, and we finally caved in and tried it. I don't know what I expected when I came in, but I was surprised by the layout. There's a bar with seating, little round booths that can seat comfortably seat 2 (can probably comfortably seat 3 skinny people), and some tables & chairs. Lebanese tv shows are playing, which was cool at first but some of the shows were very loud with lots of yelling. The singing shows were cool though. We took a while to order because I couldn't decide what I wanted. The Lebanese nachos caught my eye so we ordered that as an appetizer. They were INSANELY GOOD. The hummus & labneh & chips were to die for. Next time, I'm getting the nachos with meat. I also ordered the beef shawarma which came with rice and tomatoes and a soup or salad. I chose the lentil soup which reminded me of pea soup. Very hearty and comforting. My husband ordered the pepper joe platter which was Lebanese sloppy joe & rice. He ordered one of the salads that was really garlicky and delicious. I was not able to finish my meal, and I was very satisfied with the portions. The spice on the beef was different than I expected but was still good. My husband finished all of his food. We were dying to try some baklava but they ran out earlier in the day. Now we have an excuse to come back: to try the baklava and I can get more nachos!! read more

The food here was delicious and it was only my first time. I have been wanting to give this place a try ever since I started school in Springfield. I had the dinner kabobs it had a variety of meat and it was nice and tender and delicious. The soup was good and so was the rice. I was expecting a little more flavor in the rice but I think it balanced off with how tasty the meat was. amazing authentic family run joint, anything you land on will be amazing, such a small simple thing but incredible handmade falafel (at least 4 different recipes) awesome everything, i tried each of the meats (lamb, beef, chicken) obviously amazing vegetarian menu, even the chai and lebanese coffee are fantastic (dont get the coffee too late, pretty jittery but rich and delicious, chai has a great sweet/spice balance) and traditional desserts, simple and amazing. plus the fams there (or was each time i went) which is always just kinda nice to see (if they get along, which they do, it adds the love into the recipe which makes the experience that much better) and super friendly. hit it up read more
