Our most recent visits here have been a bit of a letdown, especially compared to our first experience. On our second visit, I called ahead to confirm they had gluten-free options. The person on the phone seemed disinterested in answering my questions, but our fantastic waiter from the first visit had assured us they could handle gluten-free needs safely. Feeling confident, we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we informed our waitress about my sister's gluten allergy. Unfortunately, she seemed indifferent to its seriousness. She directed us to the menu indicators for gluten-free options but didn't inspire much confidence with her answers. When we asked to speak with the chef or manager, she refused, which was quite surprising given the importance of food allergies. She said they were too busy to pull them away for something like that. Really? Despite the terrible waitress, we stayed because we knew they had gluten-free options (and our good waiter from our first visit assured us that my sister would be taken care of). My sister ordered a gluten-free dish and requested an ingredient be excluded. Sadly, the dish arrived with the ingredient included. Thankfully, it wasn't an allergen, but my sister was too nervous to mention the mistake, fearing a negative reaction by the waitress. Our most recent visit here was another bad experience. We arrived and put our name on the waiting list. As we waited, we noticed the greeter calling out names at a barely audible volume, making it difficult for people to hear their names being called. It almost seemed like she was intentionally saying the names quietly, so she could move through the list quickly. The cashier had to step in a few times to call out the names louder so people in the lobby could hear. Seems like a simple task, but that girl was really struggling with it. Finally, our name was called, and we were seated in a booth. Our waitress arrived shortly after to take our drink orders and asked if we were ready to order our food. Since we had just been seated, we needed a moment to look over the menu. We eventually ordered and, when our food arrived, I noticed my silverware was dirty, with chunks of something gross on my fork and knife. My oatmeal spoon looked like it had been chewed up by a garbage disposal. I requested a new set of silverware and drink refills. We waited quite a while for the waitress to return. Eventually we tired of waiting and my husband went to the hostess stand to grab 2 new sets of silverware for myself and for him. Apparently his were dirty as well. Just after he returned, the waitress finally returned with the new silverware and the drink refills I had requested. She mentioned that she had to go to the back to get more juice for my second glass of $5 juice, which took about 10 minutes. You would think that if you were going to be gone that long, you would at least bring silverware first so people could begin eating. When the waitress brought my replacement oatmeal spoon, it was dirtier than the first, and also looked like it was somewhat chewed up by a garbage disposal. The fact that she did not see the food, or whatever it was on the spoon, tells me what kind of care she has for her role at the restaurant. While the food itself was decent, the service over multiple visits left much to be desired. The handling of food allergies, the waiting list, and the lack of cleanliness of the silverware were particularly disappointing. We hope the restaurant can address these issues to improve the overall dining experience. Until then, we won't be returning. read more

First of all .... Food and service were both good!! But my husband is 77 and I am 74....First Watch had a lot of open booths at all times when we were there. The hostess took us to literally the farthest and smallest table away from the front door....back past the restrooms. Walking back there was bad enough but sitting at that tiny table when numerous other duos were placed in booths is beyond me. Why didn't I ask to be moved? Lucky this time we get in fast, they are usually very busy and the wait is endless. We sat down and was greeted very quickly. Our waiter was very nice. He bring us the menu and introduce us to some new fall menu. We didn't order anything from the fall menu, maybe besides the Carrot juice, which was good. I got the Kale tunic, more green to my liking. We ordered some food and I always like their pancake. So trying something new, I got the yummy lemon ricotta pancake and it was soooo good. I waited about 10-15 minutes to eat it, cuz they never bring the syrup, and i can't get ahold of my waiter or anyone. They were all some where and my guy was busy with other tables. So I started my Parma House hash brown. It was tasteless or mostly burnt smokey flavor. I added hot sauce, sadly they don't have tabasco here, and black pepper + salt. It wasn't my good, maybe it's missing some cheese. The mushroom hash my daughter have was salty and extra burnt taste. We love this restaurant, but do NOT recommend getting take out. Spent $100 on a group take out meal yesterday because this is one of our favorite places and we needed food at an event we were at. We were very disappointed. Everything was cold and seemed as if it had been sitting for hours - even the coffee. We scheduled our pickup time for 12:30 and promptly picked it up even a few minutes before that, but it was as if everything had been prepped hours before- even salads weren't chilled. Two of our chicken salads had no chicken, and the lady who gave us our bags told us they put something extra in which wasn't the case. Visited here with the ladies and it was a first time visit. We arrived about 11:20am on a weekday and the place was slammed. Let the host know we were there and they said it would be about a 20 minute wait, but we we received a text in about 10 minutes and were. The biscuits and turkey gravy were delicious. The diced potatoes were also very flavorful. The kids menu had a variety and you can see from the pictures the servings were large. I wouldn't recommend going here for an intimate meal, as it was very very loud. Our server, poor thing, was seated with several tables all at once and was not able to refill drinks or get to our table quickly. This seating issue was not her fault whatsoever. Add to that once being seated, we had to flag down our waitress after 15 or 20 minutes to inquire on our food and it was then that she informed us "oh yeah, the kitchen is totally backed up like 20 minutes or so." That was where I was officially ticked. Perhaps that might have been mentioned while taking our order? Hey guys, just a quick heads up... Perhaps some toast could have been offered. A small fruit cup??? I arrived to first watch at 11 am and got my food by noon. Abysmal service. Awful communication and a sense of how dare I be annoyed. Unapologetic is what keeps coming. News flash I can eat anywhere. I support this business by spending my money here. You're not doing me a favor Coming there right after church, having not yet eaten, I was hungry, and I had an expectation that my service would be timely or I would be informed otherwise. We're huge First Watch fans back home, and were delighted to find that Springfield had them too! You cannot find a better breakfast and brunch place. The menu is full of healthy options, and even the options that aren't particularly "healthy" are still made deliciously. I do not like greasy foods - not a diner, Waffle House, or greasy spoon fan, and perhaps that's why I especially like First Watch. The avocado toast is simple and delicious! She gave recs and shared that she ate there frequently before working there and said she had always enjoyed everything she ate. My nephew had the Floridian French toast. So I really hate going to chains, but this is a franchise - so I feel slightly better about supporting a local development with really solid breakfast/brunch options. If you have been to a First Watch either in Saint Louis or in any of the 105 and growing locations in 17 states - you know you will get consistent food with healthier options. The food isn't out of this world - but it's consistent. This First Watch is 100% better than the one in Clayton, MO with more space. Pros: 1) Very large bright spacious space for groups 2) Always a carafe of coffee at your table 3) Lots of healthier turkey, spinach, quinoa breakfast bowl options and then they also have your normal pancakes, bacon, cinnamon rolls 4) Vegetarian and non-pork friendly 5) Kids/family friendly 6) Extremely wallet friendly for entrees ($10) but not for drinks (Cold brews and Tonics at $4) 7) Solid breakfast red potatoes on a griddle. And I generally don't eat a ton of carbs - but they make these with spices, onions and garlic! Cons: 1) Options at 7am. I kind of wished they had an early bird special for the weekdays at like 6 or 6:30am. 2) No Ice Coffee that is unsweetened. The only thing is cold brew and the cold brew is very weak (remember to ask for no ice) 3) Kale and Beet tonics are ok. I would pass and go to a juice bar in the area instead. There is too much fruit/sugar ratio compared to veggies. 4) This happens at a lot of the First Watch - but the system they have to power wash the water glasses/silverware always leave a mark. It's like it's not clean - but it is, I hope. 5) Service is slow and forgetful - but it is also b/c this place is busy busy. If you want a place that is consistent with excellent turn around service for breakfast - come here! But if you have a little extra time - there are a lot of fantastic places to fill that power breakfast void too. read more
