The food is always great. The community of people dining there is special! The wait staff are wonderful!

This place is a hole in the wall but not necessarily in the "good" hole in the wall way. It offers large portions of mediocre overcooked bar food (burgers, sandwiches, fried foods, a few salads and some home cooking specials). The inside looks like a dive bar and a basic cafe combined. Meager looking tables, chairs and booths with second rate condiments on the tables (who's ever heard of Red Gold Ketchup). The waitresses are pleasant. If you are looking to fill up on basic bar food then perhaps you will enjoy and be the type to give a 5 star rating like others have. For me, it's a 2 star rating. First off - the owner and waitress help - are friendly and personable. And they must have memories of elephants - as they know everybody in the place (it seemed). I've heard about this place - and had a friend take me here - on the "all you can eat" fried chicken. I think it was $10.95....and let me tell you.....this was some darn good fried chicken. A great fry to the outside of it all. The meat had plenty of moisture and flavor...that I would tend to think, this chicken is brined (before fried). For me, the crust needed a touch of salt added...which of course I did. I might've had (6) pieces of chicken. We stopped in for lunch this afternoon. It happened to be Tuesday, the day the restaurant only serves fried chicken due to any allergies a customer might have. My meal, two pieces of white meat, coleslaw, mash potatoes and Texas Toast for $9.95! Large portions of delicious juicy fried chicken golden brown, buttery creamy mash potatoes with gravy from scratch and cream coleslaw with just enough sweetness. The meal was so large I ended up bringing half of my chicken home. Husband had the pork tenderloin. It was double the size of most tenderloins in most restaurants. The condiments, Red Gold has been around from the 1940's, and family owned. Information on this U.S. business is some of the portion used from purchasing Red Gold products is given to support the hungry, disaster relief and the U.S. military. The restaurant looks like it use to be a bar with a pool table at one time. There is still the divider on the bar a section for the waitresses, large mirror behind the bar on the wall, the ceiling and the old beer light towards the back lead me to believe this. We were looking for a nice looking atmosphere restaurant. We were looking for a place with good food. The staff was friendly, prices were very reasonable. These days you can't find a restaurant with great, large down home cooking for two plus drinks for under$35. We will be back, maybe for the walleye special on Wednesday. read more

We had just left Costco and wanted to grab dinner before driving home. I looked up restaurants close to Costco and Jo's Gathern' Place popped up. It was only 4 minutes from Costco. It was a easy to find and lots of parking. We stepped in to a bar/restaurant,lots of tables and some booths. There was sitting at the bar also. The bartender told us to sit anywhere,followed us and handed out menus. He took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menu. The menu has a good selection and reasonable prices. I got the 8 oz cheeseburger with onion rings and my husband got the patty melt with fries. We always like to try both at a new place. My burger was very good and my husband said his patty melt was one of the best he's had. Both onion rings and fries were good. read more

Joes has a very "dive bar" feel. They have good drink specials, and the staff is friendly. But the real reason to go is for a burger; the 16oz are ridiculously ginormous! Don't even try to pick one up and eat it you'll be using a knife and fork or pulling off a patty. The burgers are probably one of the best in town. Extremely flavorful with fresh veggies, and did I mention ginormous?!! Definitely recommend stopping here if you want a burger, and you're on the East side. read more

I've been here many times - and always find it worth the time. Great lunches. There is always a special or two depending on the day. I like the meatloaf. Home-spun, well made, and tastes like mom's. A great meal at under $10 for lunch. The other specials, such as the burger or Walleye fish are excellent too. It's an excellent restaurant for a home-town meal and great comfort food. Portions are big and filling - but no so I leave much on the plate. :o) Wait staff is always friendly, and makes one feel comfortable just relaxing for a good meal. read more

My husband and I have stopped in here three times. All three times we have enjoyed our food. The atmosphere is friendly dive bar. The wait staff is incredible and great at making menu suggestions. They have only a few beers on tap, a decent bottle selection, and a nice bar. Draft beers are $2.25. Basically, this is our new favorite place to hang out and get a bite to eat. read more

This place is great example of a local gem in Springfield, MO. Great place to grab a homestyle meal for lunch or dinner. I went for lunch and had their special, the Walleye. And it was a huge amount of food for $10.95. The fish was fresh and flakey and the batter wasn't too thick and all of the sides front he potatoes to the close slaw and the beans were really good. Love Jo's Gathern' Place! I've tried all the daily specials and it's hard to chose which one is my favorite. The Meatloaf on Monday is better than mom made! The Fried Chicken on Tuesday's is so moist and crunchy. Wednesday is Walleye Wednesday served with so much food I thought I'd bust! Thursday's Chicken Fried Steak is delicious and let's not forget Friday's steak special which is always cooked perfectly to order. I'm so glad I found this little jewel in northeast Springfield. I heard about this place from a coworker, I went on Thursday for their lunch special of gizzards. I only eat gizzards every once in a while, however, I have to say these were the best cooked, best-seasoned gizzards I have had by far. Your typical dive bar. The bar food was great and hot. The bar tender knew what she was doing. This place has lots of usuals and that small hometown feel. Big seating area and a touch tunes and a large TV. There is a pool table too. Fries are extra but worth it except on Wednesday. read more

I like to go to Jo's on Monday nights whenever I visit Springfield about once a month. Uncle Les Galler hosts an open mic and I am a musician who likes to jam with him because he's a first class guitar player. Other great musicians from around Springfield gravitate there. Quite often, there are only a few non-musicians in the room. The bartender/waittress is very attentive and does a great job handling the whole situation. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Monday is also 60 Cent Taco night before 7pm. The jamming starts afterwards. You can also watch a ball game or a hockey game on the wide screen TV while hearing some of the best pickers in Missouri get together. read more
