Tried signing up online. Found out the day they were suppose to activate it that they had no record of my request. DONT SIGN UP ONLINE. When I did setup the time over the phone they werent able to activate it till almost a week after the designated date...PLAN A MONTH AHEAD AT LEAST. Service representative assured me they wouldn't charge for the first month because of these problems, they did anyway and tell me it's impossible for that to be an option. GET THEIR NAMES AND ID #s AND ANYTHING THEY PROMISE YOU IN EMAIL. If you have a choice, DO NOT USE THEM. Pay the extra $5-$10 for faster service. Sadly it's either their service or no service for me. If I could do Comcast Cable I would; twice the speed ATLEAST for the same price and No Dumb Contract. read more

After four days and my yelling at a supervisor, they finally knowledge that the person who originally took the order never input it correctly. They got a technician I was in the area add me in, he was great and got me connected. I also wrote a letter to the CEO in Louisiana. Someone from his office called me and confirmed that they had made a mistake. They offered no financial consideration for the four days I waited for each no-show appointment. But The Wi-Fi works, speed is as I ordered, and I'm hoping my experience was a unique one. If you do business with them, be prepared for their non-US based call center to make mistakes in transcribing any information. If you have a problem ask to be transferred to a supervisor as they are in the US. I've no problem with overseas call centers, however the language barrier for this particular group was very difficult. read more

Zero stars. Really horrible. I ordered Century Link installation for my Direct TV package in April. It is now September and it still hasn't been installed. Don't pay attention to the appointment window....you will be lucky if they come at all. Last week they missed the 4th appointment and I am currently waiting for the 5th and feel like an idiot. I have never gotten a call from them. I always have to reach out and go through their main customer support. After all the trouble and missed days of work they offered me a $25 gift card. Held "hostage" by THE ONLY provider of internet at my residence! Customer "service" means speaking with very lovely ladies in the Philippines who read from a variety of scripts, but really are unable to do more than schedule appointments in a 3-5 hour range. That a Century Link pedestal was left open, wires exposed for over a week, in spite of several calls to report, was just further indication that THEY could care less. I'd happily pay more for better quality and reasonable customer service. If only there was another choice! read more

This has got to be the worst internet in my area. So, when the schools went to virtual learning we had my son and a few others attending school from our house. The internet would cut out ALL day long. But it's an intermittent issue. So I called century link to send out a technician. The technician came and I guess "checked" everything and said that nothing was wrong. So I came home from work and watched my internet drop out and come back, drop out again 3 minutes later and come back and drop out again 7 minutes later and so on... so I called century link back again. Keep in mind I'd say the average wait time is 30 minutes to an hour just to speak to someone. And they said they would send another technician out. So the other technician came out and I assume did the same thing the first one did because yet again no issues were found. So I'm pretty frustrated at this point then I get some mail from century link. Opened it up and it's a bill for the service call for $90!! Because no issues were found. Just because your people didn't find issues doesn't mean they don't exist. So then I got another $90 bill for the second service call. Keep in mind I have kids at my house trying to receive an education and they can't do it because the internet takes a dump every time they get the program back up. So I get yet another service call scheduled and I took the day off from work so I could be here. So the technician pulls up and gets out of his truck. I explained the issue was intermittent. He plugged his tester in and said well it's working right now but it's showed a bunch of error codes. I think I laughed out loud when he said that. So he replaced a part and said it should fix it. And it did!!! All issues resolved!! I couldn't believe it. About a year later and now it's crap again. I'm pretty tired of it. There are only 2 options in my area and the other isn't much better but I guarantee it's better. I would say there is no way century link could last as a company. I have never felt like a valued customer. I'm an electrician and I would never in my wildest dreams treat a customer the way they do. If I put a ceiling fan in and it works half the time I can promise you I'll hear about it. And they for sure won't be calling me back. And I pay to have internet all the time and I think I should have internet all the time. It doesn't have to be lightning fast. Just working. read more

I originally had their services beginning 2005. During that time, I had no real problems. I decided to go straight cell phone and did not keep phone services. My reception is not great in this area so I decided to get my telephone and DSL back. It has been the worst experience. They called at the end of the day to reschedule the first appointment. I called at around 9 p.m. on the first date because nobody had shown yet. I was told that the technician would be out that night. I called customer care the next day because no-one showed. Appalling customer service. I have (or had) digital phone service as part of my internet package from CenturyLink; the account goes back to the early 1990s. Two weeks ago the firm reassigned my home phone number without authorization. I've spent much of the past week trying to get phone service back, without luck. I've spoken with a dozen different refs at half a dozen phone numbers, for (no exaggeration) several hours, either talking to someone, or on hold. Promises, promises, but no action. Different explanations, some contradictory. Several sales reps did what they could; unfortunately, none of their efforts have resulted in my regaining phone service. Trust me stay away from Century Link. Honestly century link is one of the worst internet providers in this country. I had a whopping 70Kbps and i called them and asked them if it was possible to get better speeds where I live. I talked to multiple different people and every single person I talked to told me a completely different answer. Some saying I couldn't get better internet period and some saying I could get a new "bonding" technology to get 25 Mbps. Granted I called them initially because my internet kept going in and out daily for about 2 months. They even admitted that there was something wrong with lines installed at my house. After being on the phone for 3 hours at a time I finally got a manager to schedule me a technician to help fix my broken internet. Instead he just sent out a guy to come install the new bonding technology which guess what? I COULDN'T EVEN GET IT AT MY HOUSE. The technician literally just leaved and did nothing to help me with my broken internet. After calling again every day for 2 weeks, I was lied too, manipulated, and used in every way by the Century Link Employees. Trust me they are really good at lying to their customers without feeling any remorse for what they do. I honestly think Century Link should be shut down as a fraudulent business and I wish to be refunded for all of the apparent "internet" i was paying almost $100 a month for. Honestly no internet is better than having Century Link steal all of your money. Just get a good cell phone service and use your mobile hots pot. Its better than their internet anyway. TL;DR Century Link is a -10/10 in my book. Went through months of them lying to me and they never fixed anything. Do not sign up for phone service from Century Link. The lowest possible level of service is $34 per month. I only had the service for 5 months and had only local service and an unpublished number. I received at least 3 calls per day from student loan debt forgiveness or saying I qualified for one. Interesting, because I never had a student loan and I'm retired. The final straw they wanted to charge me an additional $24 just to turn the phone off. They are definitely NOT customer friendly. Go with Xfinity or any other service but them. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. On top of having incredibly slow internet (much slower than advertised) and horrible sound quality on their phone service, when we set our services to cancel on our moveout date, they canceled them immediately instead. When we called them to correct their mistake, it took three phone calls, almost an hour on hold, and it still wasn't fixed. even though they had accidentally turned it off too early, they suddenly could not turn it back on until after we had moved out. I have a land line with Centurylink When I first got service last year,I waited at home for 8 different days to finally get service. They indicated they tried to reach me,but couldn't so they didn't come out. They couldn't reach me because I live in a remote area with no cell service and of course No land line at that point which is why I needed them in the first place. Now one year later, the phone is out of service as of today (June 5, 2018) and after being on a chat for over 2 hours with various people I was told nobody could come out until June 18. That is almost 2 weeks. We have a special needs child in the home and my partner works from home depending on the phone for calls and faxes. This wait not only puts my child at medical risk (as well as the rest of the family) since we have no cell service and now no land line. Also, my partner is unable to work for 2 weeks due to the lack of phone. The service from Centurylink has been nothing short of a disaster from the start with the 8 days of waiting to now. We have NO recourse since they are the only game in town and we have no other options for service but to bow to them and take their lack of service. My only recourse is to let others know. Not that it will matter. If you have other options..Take them, otherwise if you are like me you can give them a one star or a five star you still have to have them. I will simplify my response by saying that they made multiple mistakes on my account, took three weeks before I had internet, then charged me $200 more than they told me I would be charged. 15 HOURS on the phone later and I STILL haven't received the price I was promised, and the product is still low quality. ***Update*** CenturyLink refuses to do anything about their illegal and deceitful practices. They pulled the call and acknowledge that they never mentioned a contract and that I never agreed to one, but they still claim the early termination fee (for the contract I never agreed to and explicitly said I didn't want) is still valid. The also refuse to release my account notes, and get extremely disrespectful when asked for them. Complaints filed with the BBB, and I will be posting my story on every public review board possible. Avoid this company! Full story below: "Set up an account with CenturyLink in December of 2013. I made sure to avoid any and all contract plans, as I would only be in Seattle for a few months. The CSR told me that I had to set up a phone line in order to get internet. I receive my first bill and call CenturyLink to verify the phone line information that the last CSR gave me. This time, the CSR/Manager I spoke with told me that this was completely false, and that they could set up internet without a phone line. The CSR/Manager gave me a new rate, to which I asked about a contract. She told me that there would be NO CONTRACT. So my time came to leave Seattle. I called to cancel my services, and the CSR made no mention of a contract or early termination fee. I receive a bill from CenturyLink a month later for an early termination fee and equipment that I had returned prior to leaving Seattle. I call up CenturyLink, and now there was suddenly a contract. I explained my side of the story, telling them that I made it a point to avoid contracts since I would only be there a few months. CenturyLink had gone into my account, WITHOUT my permission, and added a contract. I disputed the charges, yet CenturyLink forwarded the charges to a collection agency. The charges were disputed FIVE TIMES and were found to be invalid all five times, yet CenturyLink continues to sell the account to any agency desperate enough to take it. Avoid this company at all costs. They use illegal tactics and practices to try to trap individuals into fees and contracts. Know your rights, and most importantly, avoid this company! Century link, My experience in Charlottesville, VA This is the worst internet company I have ever had to deal with. Its is like it is built for total costumer dissatisfaction. So I decided to give Centurylink a try so I went with the 30days trial deal. When a representative sold me the trial package on the phone, she made it look amazing besides the huge speed difference compare to competing and more affordable companies like Comcast. Anyways, this is not a review in favor of Comcast either, all internet companies screw costumer to some degree but none like Century link. To make a month-long story short, 3 tech people had to come to my house since internet speed never went above one megabite in the whole trial period. I though to myself, well that is no problem since I can easily cancel my account and pay the 31.94$ that I was sold without cancelation fees. I ended up spending around a total of 6 hours on the phone with different representatives and managers since they could not assure me that I was not gonna get a cancelation fee even though I was canceling within the 30 day of my trial. Also, they charged me a total of 140 $ for two months because they charge a month fee for activation and on the 23rd of each month they automatically charge you for the next month and they cannot fix that apparently. Unbelievable; I am still in owe as to how they lie to people in their face and make them pay for a horrible internet experience. read more

Absolutely the WORST company I have ever dealt with. They do not care about this customer, even though I was with them for nearly 5 years. All of a sudden their customer service went down the drain. When I moved, it took them nearly 3 weeks to get my internet going. Then they shut it off for 2 weeks because they said another company was taking over, which was news to me, and neither requested nor authorized by me. Then I had to beg for a credit, and a return of service, which took another 10 days and literally hours on the phone. Meanwhile, on one of my begging missions, I got a Century Link customer service rep trying to sell me home security. I mean really, the same company who is screwing up my internet regularly, and taking weeks to turn it back on, now expects me to entrust them with my life? I think not. I would laugh if that wasn't so dispicabe and frightening. After all, let's face it, I could be laying dead for that length if time if Century Link's home security is as good as their internet. Meanwhile, today I got a bill for over $200.00 for 1 month of internet service, and I do not use pay for websites. I use email and read the news. I called them again, got disconnected, called back again and cancelled my service. Horrible experience that they should be paying me for, not the other way around. Moral of story, don't use Century Link for the internet and I advise you not to risk your life for their home security services, either. They missed my install date after several phone calls and multiple hours spent on the phone with them assuring me that it was coming. After seeing the truck outside of my house they told m that my date was two days later than they had originally told me. I then cancelled my service the next day. It took 3 different phone calls to do that. One of the calls told me to hang up and dial the number I had dialed. This is, bar none, the worst internet I have ever experienced and it's not even the cheapest either. It works half the time and when it does work, you get a trickle of internet so slow you'll be lucky you can load the images on a page. Century Stink will have you dreaming of 56K internet it's so bad, hell at least that was consistent. And here is the kicker, we asked for better service, we were willing to give this terrible company MORE MONEY for some increase in our abysmal service and they DON'T HAVE ANYTHING BETTER in my area. Which, for those who live in Charlottesville means, Century Stink does not provide an actual product. No they provide you with the dream of internet service and of course your monthly bill. Called to set up service and they picked up on the first ring. Got my internet box in the mail the next day. My internet is supposed to be 10 mbps, and it runs about 7-8 mbps, which is good enough for Hulu. Can't comment on the service yet. We've had many Internet Service Providers over the years, from dial up to fiber optic and everything in between. CenturyLink is by far the absolute worst service provide we've ever experienced. Their Internet is slow and unreliable, their service technicians are incompetent and their customer service is appalling. In the almost 3 years we've had CenturyLink phone and Internet, it has never worked properly. Despite numerous technician visits, it still just drops completely ever 6-8 weeks and CenturyLink refuses to fix the root cause. If you have any other option for Internet service, take it. Something positive. Ordered service on line. Modem arrived day before scheduled installation. Installation scheduled Wednesday prior to 8:00 PM. Service tech arrived next day Thursday at 8:30 AM. No big deal. I use to own a business that provided service and understand stuff happens. Also since utility tie in is outside house I didn't need to be here anyway. Found service tech to be considerate and competent. I have two different lines into house he checked to make sure it was on the one I wanted. After completing the work he hung around to verify everything worked. I've not dealt with billing nor the store maybe that'll be different, but for now all is good. Where I live I only get 3 Meg bit. Don't really consider that high speed but it's adequate for Netflix. Did check speed w/ ookla and its 2.87 read more

Hold times to speak with a representative are abysmal, and when you finally do reach an actual person, you're transferred and disconnected. Over and over again. Each time I have an issue about my account, this maddening process repeats itself. I finally cancelled my service with them and returned the router by mail. Two months later I received a bill for "unreturned equipment" and still can't resolve the issue. I wish I could go back in time and choose a different internet service provider. read more

I would prefer to give NEGATIVE stars! We had this company for a while and a few weeks ago we ordered a new modem with increased speed (we were assured we could get that speed where we live). New modem arrived and technician was seen manually adjusting our speed at the outside hookup. Well our speed never improved so a phone call was made (since our bill and upgrade receipt shows we're paying for increased speed) we were told what speed we had which was not what we wanted or we're paying for so someone was sent again to manually adjust the speed up and again told we could get the requested speed. Started noticing the internet seemed worse so we did a speed test and found we were getting even LESS than what we originally had. Now the customer service person (after being caught in multiple lies) is telling us we can't get that speed where we live and that we aren't being billed for it. Funny that we were told we could get it many times, have receipts and bills for the higher speed....so we are paying for it. Way to suck at your job, way for your business to suck and for your customer service people to be ignorant useless liars. Guess who is losing customers as we speak!
