April 1, 2026, I requested service for our upstairs Heat/A/C unit which would not turn on. This unit was purchased from Robertson's Electric 8 months ago. I called and An appointment was scheduled, promptly, for the next day. Our service technician was Leo, who was very courteous and knowledgeable. He performed a diagnostic check on the unit and after a short period of time, had it performing perfectly again. He took photos to show the problem to be a loose connection, most likely from the manufacturer. The upstairs is now cool again. I really appreciated Leo's kindness and explanation of the problem! Robertsons has been a valuable company to our home for the past 25 years. We have had issues I will say. However we have been able to work out the problems with the company and come to terms with the problems. This company is on time and efficient. They come every 6 months for maintenance. They will come also to fix or check on any issue that we may have with our heat pump systems. I trust this company and have worked with most of the technicians. I know most of the gals who answer the phone and we are able to schedule the visits when the time is convenient to both parties. Just FYI, do not use this place for service on a home generator.. They may be Ok for electrical work, but I can't confirm that. I called them out to repair my brand new Generac, and was charged for the troubleshooting.. They told me they repaired Generac under warranty, but when they were finished, they billed me $243 for confirming it needed a new control board. When I called them and asked why they didn't cover it under the warranty, they simply said "we dont' do that".. I had to submit the invoice to Generac, and call a reputable generator repair company. Although I see a lot of 5 star reviews, there seem to be just as many 1 star reviews. Unfortunately, I fall into the 1 star group. I scheduled the appointment two weeks in advance. A couple days prior to the appointment, they called to push it back a couple of days since they would "have a tech in the area that day". I took the day off work, but fine. They said he would come between 9:30 and 12. I received a confirmation the day before he would be here between 9:30 and 12. The day of the appointment, I wait. I wait some more. Finally, at 12:30 I called for an update. They said there was a glitch in their system and that even though the "arrival time" was 9:30, the "start time" wasn't until 2. What? She assured me that I was next in line and that he would arrive until 2. Fine. I wait. I wait some more. Finally, at 4 o'clock he shows up. As soon as he came inside, he said it's too late to start the project. He's not allowed to work past 3:30 and that I would need to schedule another appointment. In the meantime, he will email me a quote the next morning. I wait. I wait some more. It's been a week now and still no quote. No follow up. I doubt that Robertson Electric pays attention to their reviews on Yelp, but the owner should be ashamed that this is how his company treats their potential customers. read more

We asked for a plumber to come out because our basement laundry tub was overflowing. Someone came out and immediately said it was sewage and our main sewer line was blocked and that we had to call roto-rooter. So when roto rooter came out they said it was not sewage and unclogged it in 15 minutes working from inside the laundry room, said a plumber could have done it. So roto rooter has fixed prices and we paid way more for something a plumber could do. I've been using Robertson for years but looks like it's time for a change. read more

I used to love Robertsons. I have a contract with them. They used to be excellent. But in the last 1-2 years, their service has really tanked. They have done such things as reschedule my appointment without telling me for a MONTH later. After waiting for my appointment during my appointment window I called to ask where they were, that's when I learned I was "rescheduled" without my knowledge or consent. And, they had the nerve to call me on the rescheduled day to ask if I would "mind rescheduling" because they had "some emergencies" When I needed a plumbing appointment they told me nothing was available for 4 weeks unless I wanted to pay a "emergency price". Mind you, I've gotten them multiple customers, and I have been under contract with them for 8+ years after installing a new premium heat pump and all new ductwork. I got 3 bids to replace a 2-ton unit which cools/heats my homes addition. One bid was lowest but an off-brand. The other 2 were for the exact same Trane units, inside and out. Robertson came in over $1,000 lower, so I went with them. They showed up at around 9am and the job was done by 3pm. They were professional and very skilled. The install was perfect and the unit works great. They showed me how to use the WIFI thermostat. So far very happy! read more

We have been a customer of Robertson Electric for over 20 years, their work has been good ...... until recently. three years ago they came out and wired my pottery studio, I told them I was eventually getting a much larger kiln and to be sure they wired PLENTY of power. This I said many times and each time they said they would wire more power than anyone would ever need. well here I am with a brand new kiln and not enough power! they did come out and rewire for the bigger kiln. they charged me $1,000 for their mistake saying "well since we did the work three years ago we really can't do anything about it now" I asked for the bill to be cut some and they insulted me with $100, might as well as given me an eye dropper to put out a forest fire! And the same old excuse of COVID for the extreme price. So be warned if they make a mistake they will not make good YOU will be the one paying for it! read more

Unreliable, unprofessional. Would not do business with this company again. Scheduled service - install an A/C outlet and two thermostats. Scheduler made appointment two weeks out. On the day before the scheduled appointment, they called. They can't install the outlet tomorrow. They will only provide estimate. They can't install thermostats; need more time. Please call to reschedule. During the two weeks between scheduled and date of appointment, no-one bothered to look at the scheduled services and determine whether the work could be done on the date and time allotted. I get the call to reschedule the day before the appointment. To me, this sounds like untrained schedulers and not enough competition in a small market to move this company to fix the problem and do it right. If they're this unreliable at keeping appointments, I can't rely on them to do electric work properly. read more

I am in a catch 22 situation with Robertson Electric who is potentially placing this tenet of a house in Charlottesville in a unsafe health situation. Facts:I am a retired tenet of a house with a great credit rating. I have no heat as of Friday, 11/5 and am being denied service for my heating unit due to red tape "liability" issues. With no heat looming over me for this weekend with a frost warning for my area. The homeowner has allowed me to pay for his house services bills in the past and has reimbursed me in return. Robertson won't accept my credit payment and is waiting on the homeowners credit card information who works at UVA's O.R. and who is mostly unavailable for quick notification. The homeowner has been a longstanding customer of Robertson's with a a new air conditioning unit installed by them in the recent past. Where is Robertson's concern for my safety and where is their loyalty for longstanding customers?! read more

These people were recommended by Virginia Generator, who installed our generator eight years ago, to install a whole house surge protector after we suffered some damage from a lightning strike. They quoted us to $250-$300 as an estimate and they came and installed the surge protector. They charged us three times the retail price for the protector which is located all over the web for approximately $62. They charged us $175. I told them I didn't think this was fair . After a major harangue they agreed to take the $250 they originally quoted. . In my opinion this is price gouging and highway robbery and I urge every reader To be very careful with these guys. Very impressed with the service provided. Having dealt with a variety of companies for HVAC maintenance and repair over the years, I'd put Robertson Electric at the top of the list. We bought a new (old) house a few months ago and yesterday we noticed that the fan wasn't coming on. I called Robertson at 1:00 pm and a technician was out within an hour. He diagnosed the problem in minutes, explained it to me in detail, went to get the part, did a check of the rest of the system, and had us up and working before the end of the day -- all at a price that came in lower than I expected. They built enough trust with me yesterday that I'll be setting up annual maintenance for our HVAC with the company. read more

Moved to the Charlottesville area a couple of years ago, & have used this company on several occasions for electrical & plumbing issues, but each time I needed a repair, they've never had anyone that could come out the same day or even the next morning unless I was willing to pay for an after hours visit. I didn't and still don't understand why they don't hire & designate an electrician, and plumber to just handle same day issues. I paid for a brand new Trane heat pump system and it was defective upon installation. The wire harness that powers the fan keeps burning out and the company just replaces the harness without determining what is causing the issue. WARNING: Avoid Robertson's at all cost-my HVAC unit purchased in 2018, with a 10 year all inclusive warranty, has been leaking pounds freon each year, beginning 18 months after installation, even after replacing TWO evaporator coils and other defective parts, leading to skyrocketing bills for my small 1,100 sq ft house: in 2019, average bill was $165, one bill over $200; 2020 & 2021, average bills exceeded $190, 6 bills over $200; 2021, 2 bills OVER $300. The $352 bill for the incredibly mild November of 2021 was more than double the November bills from 2 previous years. Robertson said the freon was low (the tech added 5.5 pounds of freon!), but they could not find a leak and, again, management refused to consider replacing the unit. This is an egregious, absolutely shocking failure to stand behind their warranty. Air conditioning not conditioning, hot in here. Called Robertson who I had used happily a few years ago. What a difference a few years makes! 5 days later Tech comes out and says I need new coil, freon, AND a new flux capacitor....oh sorry, a new TXV. (?) Uhm...$2600+ on an older system sounds like 1/2 way to a new a system to me. Called Curtis in Crozet. Tech here next day, 20 mins later new $86. capacitor in outside unit and we are conditioning with our conditioner. I am grilling the poor guy, don't we need this, don't we need that? he ran a full diagnostic, everything to spec. Thank you very much. On October 21st 2016 I contracted with Robertson Electrics to service my heating and air conditioning. They advertised it was for one year and it included preventive servicing twice (heat in the fall and air in spring). I was surprised to find out I was only given 11 months for the price of 12 when I called to question why the new contract started 10/1/2017 and ended 9/30/2018. I was told they only start on the first of the month so evidently when I contracted on the 26th it was back dated to the 1st. I asked what would have happened if I needed repairs this month (thinking I was covered under contract) - the reply was I would not be given the contractual discount or priority. I have to question the integrity since I was not informed the contract was back dated and I would only receive 11 months instead of the advertised 1 year (I paid for 1 year). I also question their commitment to customer service. Needless to say they lost at least one customer and possibly more as I share my story. read more

I had previously contracted Robertson Electric in Charlottesville VA to install a new HVAC system, and because they did a good job, I selected it to install a new sump pump with back-up system. An electrician came to the house, looked at what needed to be done, and submitted an estimate of $871 for four hours of work for two workers. I had bought the equipment myself. I agreed to the estimate, which figured to be about $100/hour plus supplies -- higher than competing electricians, but my satisfaction with their previous work led me to select Robertson. Within a week, the two workers arrived and did an excellent job installing the system and moving an outlet in two hours time. I assumed that the estimate contract would be revised to half, but it wasn't. I called to ask why I was being charged the full price of the estimate when it took only half the time. The lady said they would reduce the bill from $871 to $610, which brought the hourly charge from $200/hour per person to $150/hour per person, much more than the hourly charge of $174/hour for TWO workers. According to Robertson's fee schedule, two hours of labor for two people should have been $348. When I asked about the extra $262 charge, she said that they charge extra for driving to the site (21 miles). The estimate contract had nothing in it about a charge of $262 to drive 21 miles, and her explanation was that the nature of a contract job is that it isn't broken down into hourly charges. The hourly wage is just part of it. Had that extra charge of $262 been spelled out, I would not have contracted with Robertson, which I never will again. The estimate simply listed four hours of work for two people plus any materials. My previous experiences with reputable companies hadn't prepared me for dealing with such deception. It's a shame that the employees do excellent work that is sullied by the billing process. An expensive lesson learned. read more

I called for plumber to affix new shower nob, job took less than 10 minutes, and I was charged $96. A day later my wife noted that the nob was not placed correctly, it was in wrong direction. I called Robertson's, got an answering service in Georgia, explained I needed a re-do. They said someone would call on Monday. No return call ever came from Robertson's (at least no message on the answering machine was ever left). Weeks later the shower nob is still in wrong position. Absolutely do not use them!!!! they do horrible work I was very disappointed in the work they did in my home and had to call another company to fix it because on top of everything that was wrong I also had things missing from my home. when I informed the owner he never called me back and when I finally got in touch with him he proceeded to get nasty and hang up on me....real professional.
