This past Monday, when I stepped into my living room from my bedroom which has a separate heater, I noticed that it was very cold and I also noticed that the thermostat screen on the wall was totally dark and did not have the usual numeric display. It was 19 degrees outside and didn't seem to be much warmer inside the house either. The owner of my house has a regular maintenance contract with Beck Cohen and they had just installed a brand-new HVAC system this past summer so I called them immediately. They were very busy with weather related issues for multiple HVAC customers but they told me that they would have a technician come out ASAP to try to fix the problem and to get some heat going in the house. Their technician, JUSTIN BAIN, was working at another location but arrived at my house in less than an hour from the time of my original call. He immediately found the problem with the HVAC system and quickly fixed it so the house began to warm up quickly. Ironically, the system here was scheduled for its semi-annual maintenance check on the very next day so JUSTIN stayed for nearly 3 hours completing that check while he was here so that he could check for and correct any other possible problems with the system. In the past 6 months, I have had two HVAC issues which were significant since both happened during periods of very inclement weather, both heat and cold. The first was this past summer when the old HVAC system totally crashed during a 95-degree heat wave and Beck Cohen expeditiously replaced the entire system within just a few days. And the second incident being the minor issue that occurred this past Monday which JUSTIN quickly fixed on that very cold day. Beck Cohen has both EXCELLENT Customer Service and technical HVAC expertise and service which I value because I've had some unpleasant experiences with other HVAC companies in the past so I'm very happy and relieved that I can always rely on Beck Cohen for quick and effective service!! Introduced by COSTCO, Beck Cohen has a higher price than other local vendors, but we agreed mistakenly for the higher quality service(COSTCO!) expectation. Their sales person and manager are super nice, but the installation is terrible: poorly connected duct work, not following the code and guideline of the manufacturer for installation. Sometimes you realize just how great a company is only in retrospect. We contracted with Beck Cohen in summer 2020 to replace the heat pump in our Charlottesville home, after receiving bids from other local companies. Beck Cohen's proposal was clear and detailed. Their salesperson, Brian, was not pushy but, rather, responsive, modifying the proposal after we discussed various options. Beck Cohen installed a high-end Lennox system, with all work completed in one day. The system worked beautifully and the thermostat was a dream to operate. One could barely hear the outside unit, it was so quiet. When we sold our house earlier this year, we could point to our incredibly low energy bills as a selling point. In the home we now occupy in the Washington DC urban area, we had a new Daikin heat pump system installed by a local contractor (not Beck Cohen). This was a complicated job, involving replacement of aging systems, new ductwork, two separate heat pumps, and zoning. That being said, the contractor ran into problems that could have been anticipated and delayed completion of the work by weeks, in the midst of a very cold winter and as we were preparing to move in. Months after starting work the contractor is only now finished with ironing out all of the wrinkles. The thermostats are stupidly complicated and one must push tiny buttons on the small touch screens. My daughter is seeking an HVAC contractor. She has been subjected to aggressive salesmanship and has received proposals that provide hardly any equipment specifications. No company is perfect. But Beck Cohen will stand out in my mind for the professionalism and reliability of its staff. The system worked exactly as promised and the installation was memorably smooth. I wish only that the installers had removed debris in the attic left from the old air handler. But, really, that's a small issue, and my husband and I could have been on top of that one. read more

We have a boiler for heat. Needed a new AC unit. They convinced us we needed an AC and heat until, not just AC. Completely mislead us. I know they get good reviews but they were not truthful. I now feel like I do when I go to a car dealer repair shop to get an oil change and they try to convince you you need a new transmission. Beck Cohen is the best of the best. that I have found, used, & experienced, in over 50 years with having many homes. A truly World Class A range company rating from me. I had put up with another company's attitudes, egos, dirty and smelly techs always arriving late, exorbitant pricing and, evasive answers to simple questions long enough. I needed another solution asap. I had a No Heat condition in 15°F weather. So. I decided to call Beck Cohen, and to my plesant surprise, they were available. They said it would be about 1 to 2 hours to get a tech out to look at it. The tech showed up within 45 minutes from the time of my request for service. I am located 20 miles from Charlottesville. They texted me a highly accurate ETA, along with the name and picture of the technician, that would be performing the service call upon dispatch. Andy was Super Pro. He was dressed sharp, clean, prompt, and a world class knowledgeable expert in his field. Andy repaired the fault within 20 minutes upon his arrival. He had parts on his truck. Andy Pritchette was the certified technician on my service call. A Stellar human being, as well. After all was running properly, he stayed to make sure all was functional, would not fail again, and everything was running perfect. Beck Cohen also have an option for a maintenance contract. I elected to get both the heating and air conditioning maintenance contract, as the bundle was a great price and affordable. The next day, Andy came back out to clean the chimney, boiler, combustion chamber, fuel filter, and adjusted the fuel air ratio for optimum settings which saves me $ on fuel costs each month. The savings in fuel $ alone, is like getting their maintenance contract for free. Definitely ask about that, I feel it IS truly a great deal. Preventative maintenance limits breakdowns, and the need for costly emergency service calls. I get the assurance & peace of mind from knowing my heating system has been cleaned and tuned for optimal performance and reliability. And if something does break, just give them a call, and they will be there fast to fix it and get it back up and running quickly and correctly. The office and dispatch staff of Beck Cohen, are all also, World Class A range professionals. Especially if you get sick from the crunch cake. Cake is cheap. But the components of a Heating and Air Conditioning system, with today's computerized parts, are not cheap at all. A technician that is not properly trained can literally destroy tens of thousands of dollars of sophisticated equipment in mere seconds. If he isn't properly trained or certified in installations or service work, only he is probably going to know that his experimentation failure, that was actually a minor repair just moments before he touched it, now has turned into a major equipment replacement cost. That is when he says, "Ah, yeah, Uhhh, Ummm, I don't think I can fix this, sorry, I, I, meant to say it's not repairable. You're going to need a new one." That's the exact time when cheaper went not an option. There's a very good reason the best exist. I have learned by sheer brutality, and the school of hard hits to my wallet over the decades of my life, that the best is actually always cheaper to operate, lasts way longer, performs better, and is more economical in the end. Because the rest, simply do not perform as well. They consume massive amounts of energy, and do not perform as efficiently. The magic number for total costs, I have found, is a 3 to 1 ratio. My experience with Beck Cohen today (Technician David Nyberg) has convinced me that I will always use them in the future. I called at the end of the day yesterday to inquire about installing a new toilet. To my great surprise, they called back early this morning to arrange it. Emily asked for the details of the unit I wanted them to supply and install. I gave them the details and she said, "If it's in stock, would you like us to Install it this morning?" How great is that? David was there by 8:30, with the correct unit. He removed the old one and installed the new one, which works perfectly. While David was here, I mentioned that I had two ceiling light fixtures upstairs, waiting to be installed and I might schedule them to do that In the future. David said, "I could call the office to see if my schedule would allow me to install them both today while I'm here... no extra service call charge." And that's what he did! David was polite, respectful, quiet, professional and he knew exactly what he was doing... impressive in every way... even though this was two different trades. When air conditioning went out in July they gave me a window unit until they got the parts. When I have lost power in house, immediately, same day service. Reasonable price. I would not recommend this company to anyone. It has taken 7 visits (and counting) for our heating unit to be repaired (It is worth mentioning our unit is only four years old.). Technicians have arrived late, misinformed, and unprepared. A simple repair has taken nearly a month to fix. My husband has had to miss hours of work waiting at home while this unreliable, unorganized, poorly run company has attempted to repair our heater. Oh, and it's currently 20 degrees outside.
