Update: I spoke with Chris and explained the situation. He said he would wave the full cost. Look it up...carbon monoxide can be found in septic tank gasses. I explained on the phone there were strange brown circles over the septic tank and CO detector went off in the room nearest the pipe with outflow to the tank. I was told it would be $89 for them to come out. He opened two of the septic pipes. Asked me to flush the toilet furthest from the pipe. He saw the water flowing to the tank. Came in and looked around the inside of the house. Said he believed the CO was coming from the propane fireplace pilot. (It has a CO detector next to it which didn't go off.) A total of probably 15-20 minutes max. That'll be "$245 for the diagnostic". He said it was office policy to charge for the diagnostic. Basically I paid $245 for his opinion and no work. Last year, they did good work with good customer service moving our water filter system from under the house to the laundry room. We had no issue. But this time I feel high jacked!! read more

Now the hot water pec line never clamped down. See photos. Destroyed hard woods and dry wall. CALL THESE GUYS FIRST! We have a drain in our basement that has overflowed for years. It's finicky and the problem comes and goes depending on the activity. We recently decided to fix it once and for all- we had THREE Rooter companies come out and all three provided different 'solutions'. Rooter-Man was the ONLY company to spend the time to determine the problem, test their theories and work tirelessly until the pipe was cleared out. The other companies had me prepared to spend TEN THOUSAND dollars with them to trench a new line in our backyard. Shane from Rooter-Man was honest, professional, nice, hardworking and knowledgeable. Had a backup in bathroom. Called and actually got a person on the phone. (I had called another place 1st and had to leave a message. No one got back to me until the next day.) The office person was very polite and helpful. The charge for coming whether or not you wanted them to fix the issue was lower than I expected. I needed them to snake the line. They did that and told me where the clog had been.. They fixed the problem and gave me an estimate of a fix that could keep issue from happening. I was very satisfied. read more

Around 2:30 on a Sunday, I got a call from my tenant: No water! (we have a well.) I called Rooter-Man's emergency line. Within a few minutes I got a callback from "Shane" (I think). The house is in Afton, he lives in Fredericksburg, around 2 hours away! He got to Afton by about 5 or 5:30. Shane checked out the well, eliminated all other possibilities and then called me: The pump needed replacing. By this time it was around six o'clock. He'd have to drive back to C'ville to get a new pump, and he'd have to pull the well! But after giving me the cost, he simply asked, "Should I go ahead and do it now?" I was stunned! Here it was, 6PM on a Sunday night. Pulling a well is no easy job, but he was willing to go ahead and do it right then and there! "Sure" I stammered. Around 10 o'clock, Shane called. This is a 1952 house. Our clothes washer has its own iron drain line tied into the main sewer line 100 feet away. For 20 years it has been sluggish. Over the last 10 years three plumbers tried and failed to fix it. When the line finally quit draining altogether, I called Rooter Man. In 90 minutes all was well, the work area was clean, and the cost was affordable to a retired pensioner. Absolutely these fellas are as good as it gets. read more

Dreadful communicators. I had to chase after them to find out where my plumber was, only to be told that the plumber was running behind...gee no kidding, I was calling you at the very end of my two hour window wondering where he was. Rooterman is plagued by the same disease that affects most customer service operations, the inability to communicate. Everyone in the world lives glued to their phones, yet somehow their technician couldn't call the dispatch office and say "this job is taking twice as long as I thought it was going to take please let the next client know" Instead, I had to sit around my house for two hours and then chase after them to find out what was going on. Apologies don't mean a thing when the problem is 100% preventable. Did they discount me the service? Of course not. This is my second experience with Rooter-Man, and both times we've been 100% satisfied! They are quick to respond to emergency situations and were out just a couple of days after a phone-call for a non-emergency request. We've worked with Robert in the past for a faucet that wouldn't turn off and JJ today to get our septic pumped. Both were right on time (we actually received phone calls both times when they were headed our way), completely professional, offered helpful information and answered questions very patiently. I have had the most fabulous experience with the company! They call to let you know they're on their way, super efficient and clean to boot. The office staff was super kind but mostly hats off to TJ and Jessie. It's a 90 degree September day. We had a difficult situation with our septic tank and they just took it all in stride. I called around 1:30pm to see about getting an appointment, figuring I would need to look at the calendar for a couple of weeks out. Nope! They had a crew here a couple of hours later. UPDATE: To add insult to injury, the tub STILL leaks!!! Do not hire this outfit. They've got a great scam going on here. They don't complete the job so you have to call them to come back to finish it and they charge you another service fee. They claim they no one told them about all the issues. You basically pay for their communication issues. One pair of workers came to look at the job which was the upstairs tub leaked, the tub and sink drain slowly and the downstairs bathroom sink drained slowly too. They fixed the downstairs sink, made recommendations and quoted me a price to fix the upstairs tub and cable the drains. Supposedly, we had scheduled this pair of workers to come back to do the work, but it was a different pair of workers who came to do the job. They fixed the tub leak and stated they were done. I went to inspect the job and the tub was full of water that was just trickling down the drain. When I asked why it was still draining so slowly, they said it was because the pipe needed to be cabled and no one had told them about the slow drains. I did. I told them about the drains when they arrived. They told me it would cost $200 more to cable the drain. it took less than 15 minutes, so they're basically charging $800+/hr to cable your drain. You're better off buying your own auger. After they left, the sink drain was still backing up, so we called them the following day to have them come back to fix what should have been done on the first call and they charged us for another service call! Again they stated they didn't know about the slow sink drain even though we told them AND customer service rep multiple times. We'll ever call them again. They don't listen to the customer and they don't take responsibility ("nobody told us" "we didn't know about ___"). We certainly do not recommend them. read more

I live in Ruckersville and scheduled Rooter Man to pump out my septic tank. JJ showed up on time, he was really nice and professional, and the best part; I was charged exactly what I was quoted. I recommend Rooter Man, FYI JJ dug and excavated the septic lid, pumped out septic, back flushed, added a septic scrub (additional cost, my request) replaced the lid and dirt and hauled off waste. $325 for service, $105 for septic scrub and lasts a year. Rooterman came by before Hurricane Florence was expected to hit (but it subsequently diverted around us) and we spoke to Matt the plumbing technician. We had explained how our basement had flooded in the last rain storm in May (we just refinished it this past week). He listened, heard our description of how we thought our basement flooded, and he flushed our gutters and corrugated tubing emptying into our yard. He did a fantastic job breaking up the debris and roots and rat nests found in the tubing. This was new to us, as we had just moved here from LA where we rarely had any weather issues. We couldn't have had a better experience with their repairs on our aging septic system. They walked us through every single step and laid out our options clearly and accurately, got us through the county permit process, came out and got the work done on time and even though it took longer than expected because of ALOT of roots and ALOT of huge rocks they stuck with it and got it done even though they finished at 9p in the evening. We couldn't be happier with the work and particularly the fact that they replaced all of the grass and covered it with straw. Solved a horrible septic problem! After 4 years in our home, the smell of septic started invading our beautifully renovated house. So bad that we were concerned it was unsafe. We couldn't get other companies to call us back (this is a hard problem to solve) since we had done all the basic things to try to fix the problem. JB from Rooterman was very experienced, conscientious (wearing booties whenever he entered the house which score huge points with me!) and responsive. They have all the equipment necessary to find a problem, even behind the walls! I could not recommend these folks highly enough. And being in the construction industry myself, I am picky. We had RooterMan out after hours to fix a bathtub faucet repair gone bad. He was quick, nice, and fair.

The only reason I give rooterman 1 star is because the person that showed up was very polite and courteous. Other than that, I feel that the price I was quoted was extremely over priced. On top of that, I was charged $59 dollars for them to 'just show up'. I was not told that there was a fee for them to just show up and give an estimate. I guess it's just a case of 'buyer beware' and to ask the right questions. Yet I feel that I should have been told about this fee when I called to make the appointment. Will not do business with them ... ever! read more
