Michael did a great job setting up an old Dell desktop for me, and he's also a very interesting, well-read and combat-tested vet. We had a great conversation about everything from politics to religion while we waited to the ancient Windows version to update. And he charged me a very modest fee for the service. I can't recommend the place too highly, if the other employees are of this guy's quality. read more

Five Star service. I inadvertently locked myself out of my PC (duh!) I was referred to Compu-Tune Up. Thank you, Michael, for the wonderful service you gave me in getting me back online. I definitely will refer Compu-Tune Up to anyone who has computer problems. Thanks again. read more

These guys have been servicing my small company for many years now. Always very responsive, super knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and just really good folks to deal with. Hopefully they will be around as long as we are around as they really make our IT needs easy. read more

It's really unusual to find easily accessible, responsive, and top tier service that happens on site by the people you are interacting with at the storefront. But that's exactly the experience I've had. This is the second time I've used Compu-Tune-Up and I am blown away, yet again, by the service and kindness. This is the place to go if you are having issues with your computer-they are clearly passionate about what they do and really love their job. read more

I have used this service several times. They are reasonably priced and easy to work with. You will get much faster service than at the places where you have to mail in your computer. read more

Extremely professional; helped me on a university budget; technically savvy; recycles parts to the full extent he can, even though it's a personal hassle to him (involves sending items to Ohio). Cannot recommend enough. read more

I cannot recommend this business enough. The quality of work and patience while explaining everything to a non-techie is just superior. My laptop was broken intentionally and I was desperate to recover my data. He jumped right in to see if the hard drive was salvageable and kept me up-to-date as he took the steps to recover my data. Luckily, everything was in tact and was promptly put on a new (to me) laptop. Instead of being an opportunist and overcharging, he was gracious and thoughtful in the price. I am so thankful people exist like this in the world and that he was there when I needed help. You can trust your computer needs will be handled in a timely, professional (and compassionate if needed) way by the experts at Compu Tune-Up Inc. read more

Professional service. I brought in my computer, and it was inspected and returned to me on the same day working better than before. It was clear that the technician was extremely knowledgeable about computers and the price for their services was fair. I would recommend Compu-Tune Up for your computer repair needs. read more

This is without a doubt one of the best stores in Charlottesville, not just computer repair. I called out of the blue and was grreeted with exceptional service and a well informed staff. When we arrived we were immediately taken care of. Everyone I interacted with that day was extremely knowledgeable and respectful. We were talked through the whole process and updated every step of the way. On top of all of this, the price for the work was more than reasonable and performed exceptionally fast. I am not one to recommend a place unless I'm confident that they can provide amazing service vice every time, and I can definitely say that this is what you can expect here. 5/5 would come back every single time. read more

When a member of our family passed away recently, we went back to review our old pictures we had stored on an external hard drive... and it died! This was absolutely devastating, and Compu-Tune Up saved our data, our memories, and was extremely patient, kind, and communicative during the process. They got everything back and at a great price. I generally handle my own computer hardware and software issues, but when I need an expert's help, I won't hesitate to go back to them. read more

Great and friendly service and he really knows his stuff! I am so glad to support and recommend this local business.

I had to take my laptop here when my screen broke and they saved me!! Not only did they do a great job but they gave me a price before they started any work and presented all the options I had. I even recommended them to my friend when he needed help with his computer assembly and he loved them too. Definitely recommend for all your computer needs! read more

I showed up out of the blue and the owner was awesome. My new computer had developed a clicking sound in its power unit, and I was at a loss. The owner quickly figured out what the problem was (thank goodness a minor one) and fixed it before I even knew what was happening. He then doublechecked to make sure that was the real issue and there wasn't something else lurking in the power unit. Great service. Great attitude. But most of all, a true gentleman who is an expert in computers. Thank you. read more

Had a CPU fan go bad on an HP desktop; I replaced it, but was still getting a heat warning. The store owner figured out that the replacement fan fit, but the screws were too short to make good contact with the CPU. He combined pieces of the old and new fan, and it's fixed, and at a very reasonable price. Nice guy, too. HIGHLY recommended. read more

Coffee got spilled on a Mac laptop and they were able to resurrect it and get everything off the hard drive. Popped it on to the new computer easily and we were on our way... Could not have asked for more efficient and effective service! Huge thank you read more

Some kind of software running on my PC froze it up so I couldn't even shut down & restart. I resorted to unplugging its power cord, and when I plugged it back in, the PC did not start, period. I called Compu-Tune Up and they suggested I bring it in anytime. When I brought it in, the tech immediately took it apart, diagnosed the problem (shot power supply & motherboard), and told me he'd have it fixed by that afternoon. Sure enough, about 3 hours later he called and the PC was good as new for a very reasonable price. I can't imagine better service for anyone whose PC goes on the blink. HIGHLY recommended. read more

My computer was having trouble connecting to the Internet after a windows 10 update. I called Compu-tuneup, and was told that I could come right over. Within a few minutes, they diagnosed and fixed the problem. They were very professional, and the cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend them. Five stars! read more

On numerous occasions we have called on Compu-Tune Up to diagnose and repair a variety of computer problems and we have never been disappointed with their service and support.  Our problems have ranged from crashed hard drive to diagnosing and fixing problems that Dell was unable to do.  We have had in-home service on several occasions plus "in shop" repairs at the Allied Street location.  Both Jeremy and Mike have been the heart and soul of the company for several years, and we are indebted to them for not only fast and courteous service, but also for their willingness to accommodate our needs, no matter how large or small. read more

I'm a little late writing this review. It was before Christmas when the casing on my large screen laptop made a snapping sound when I opened it. From the moment I called them, I got an actual person who was very knowledgeable. I brought the laptop to them. They looked at it, diagnosed it, and gave me an estimate right away. Fixing it was WAY cheaper than buying a new laptop. They estimated I could get another 3 years use out of my current laptop, which has features that are hard to find now, like a CD/DVD burner. They fixed it faster than estimated, for cheaper than estimated. They are great people who are doing right and not price gauging. I can't recommend them highly enough. They will tell it to you straight, and treat you right. read more

The service was excellent! Not only did they make it clear and understandable, they cost was reasonable! The repair was completed early, by 2 days! I originally went to Best Buy, I was told I had to have an appointment and the next available appointment was in 2 hours. Not only did I have to wait, it would cost me to listen to their 15 minute sales pitch. I said no thanks! I am glad I went to Compu-Tune Up. Honest, direct and veterans! Thanks again! read more

I'm a grad student who, with poor oversight, didn't back up the last two week's worth of work when my Hp Spectre x360 (only 2 years old) blew the motherboard. (Suspiciously, Best Buy sold me a universal charger two days prior that they said would work for my laptop after mine was damaged, and the first time I used it to fully charge my laptop, my motherboard fried... Beware to buy a charger from the MFR, and not a plain universal one -- not even from a store like Best Buy-- if you have a higher end laptop.) I went to Geek Squad at Best Buy in Woodbridge and they confirmed my motherboard was fried. After holding my computer and external hard drive for nearly 3 whole days for a mere data transfer, they said that my SSD was also fried in the process, and that data recovery would be a 1k+ expense that may take upward of a month and without guarantee anything could be salvaged. After this horrible news, I was not allowed to pick up my laptop and my external hard drive until the next afternoon, as Geek Squad is now an appointment only basis, even to just pick up your laptop when nothing could be done. I was devastated, went through all 5 stages of grief, 3x, in about 30 min. After I calmed down, I did some research and thought something seemed really fishy here, and I wanted a second opinion. Hopeful, I researched data recovery companies in Charlottesville and was relieved to see hope awaited me just on Allied St, at Compu-tune. I called in and explained my situation, asked for their advice at that point, and Mike said to bring it on in and he and Jeremy would see what they could do. They said some of the details I provided gave them hope the SSD may be intact. So I drove straight from northern VA to Compu-tune and Mike came out and looked at it right then and there (they even remembered who I was, from my call before), took the laptop apart and confirmed a fried motherboard. When I explained what Geek squad said about my SDD (that it looked like it had no partitioning or formatting, wasn't even initialized aka wiped clean of all data), he simply said, "Well, we'll just see about that." He fished out my SSD, plugged it in in the back room, and like a miracle from on high, everything spins up. Everything. I got ALL my files back. I nearly cried with relief. Jeremy and Mike let me pull my files off myself and download them onto my external right then and there, and the best part is, they gave me a discount and I ended up paying less than 1/4th of what I would have paid Geek Squad to do it. Jeremy then looked more closely at the motherboard, did research on parts, came up with an estimate for me to have it repaired but he and Mike recommended that I buy a new laptop as the damage was extensive. It was so refreshing to have someone suggest what's best for you, and watch out for you, rather than try to get more money out of you, and I appreciated that honesty and integrity so so much. Jeremy also researched the specs of the charger and more information also suggested a high probability that this universal charger was not, in fact, compatible with my model's circuitry. They went above and beyond to explain things to me, check out information for me, and gave me all the time I needed to comb through all my files and pull out what I hadn't backed up. I am in awe and so, so, so grateful for their kindness and willingness to look at things right then and there with me. This is the best service I have received at any kind of tech support, hands down, by a mile. By TWO miles. I am so grateful. If you're looking for a last ditch hope, or even just to square away some things on your laptop, GO HERE. They are fast and professional and have such reasonable prices; this is where I will go to from now on with all my computer woes. Thank you!!!! read more

First time I went here with my laptop, the young woman helped fix a small problem. Small to her, apparently, and had it done within an hour. The second time, I paid more money for a repair and I dealt with a Saturday employee named John, who was friendly and efficient. The third time was a disaster. The employee was rude, condescending, lording it over me in that entitled way that Charlottesville people love to display to us non-literate types who only use a computer and can't read one. How can I recommend this place, since I never know what I'll get. Small businesses like this should not be patronized unless they are excellent. They are not. read more

I cannot recommend this business enough! I am not tech savvy, but these guys explained my options for troubleshooting my computer issues clearly, and without making me feel clueless. Service was quick and courteous throughout the repair process, and they kept me informed along the way. Their price was significantly lower than a competitor's quote for the same services, and I never felt that they were trying to sell me on the priciest option - only the one that was best for my situation. read more

I can't say enough about the service here. I was very worried that I had lost a lot of data that would be very difficult to replace, but they were able to recover all my files. They were very quick and the cost was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Compu-Tune-Up to any friend having computer problems. read more

Look no further friends, this is the place you want to go for any computer repair, be it hardware or software problems. They're not a new shop that has popped up recently; they've been around for two decades. This experience gives them a deeper understanding of new and old tech devices and computers, enabling them to find solutions where others cannot. I've appreciated their services for years now, many times on multiple devices. Each time they've made the hardware or software repair with great expertise, and always kind service with a smile. Their fee is never expensive -- it is always either super-reasonable or very cheap. Each time they've taken a look at my computer, sometimes taken it in for service, and other times knew and performed a quick solution right then & there and set me on my way with a repaired computer for no charge. Our community is lucky to have them. I certainly am very grateful. read more
