Yesterday we decided to go on a little road trip. We went to Oak Mountain Winery in Temecula for lunch. The restaurant is the Cave Cafe. It was a beautiful day and we sat outside. We ordered our lunch and when it arrived there was a little confusion as to what we ordered, no problem as it was our day off and we were enjoying our day. Immediately our server Tana came over and gave us a gift card for a free appetizer on our next visit. Then another employee came by and offered us free desert for their mistake. This was so unnecessary, but excellent management skills. The food was excellent, the presentation of the food was beautiful, the service was superb and our waitress Tana was so fabulous. We did ask for the manager to tell her how impressed we were with our service and our visit. We live about 1 1/2 hours from Temecula. We cant wait to take a road trip in the near future to have lunch at The Cave again. Our new favorite spot! read more

Impressive restaurant. My husband and I came here on 4th of July for our 31st anniversary. They have inside and outside seating. We chose inside. It is set inside their subterranean wine "cave" that stores their wine. The tables are spaced between the wine barrel stacks. Outside temp is 90, inside maybe 68. Quite cozy and private. Food was delicious. Normal food proportions, very tasty and fresh. We will come again and recommend to our friends. read more

Great view and location! The food was really good. I had the Syrah braised short ribs and it was divine! Although our server was really nice, we waited for at least an hour for our food to be served. We went on a Friday for lunch. We even made a reservation so I don't know what took so long. That's why I gave this place 4 stars. We might come back and see if we will get better and faster service. read more

This was going to be a 5 star review - this was our second visit here and we sat in side today which was a delightful setting. Our meal was amazing and we enjoyed 3 different wine flights. Then our sever, Marcus, dropped the check without asking if we wanted dessert. He returned and dropped the new check after we ordered dessert - long before it hit the table. My daughter ordered the Chocolate lava cake which was ice cold. Our server took it back to kitchen and then dropped off the same dessert - cut in half and microwaved - 2 minutes later. Food that is returned should be remade and not reheated in the microwave. A lava cake should be warmed in an oven and not the microwave. We spoke to the chef on the way out and his response was "and...?" I am from the industry and do not like giving bad reviews but this was not handled very well at all. We had a girls soccer tournament nearby and were unfamiliar with the area and looking for a place to have brunch. We found the Cave on Yelp and decided to try it out. When we arrived we were (10 of us) skeptical about the limited items offered on the menu but went in anyway. Being part of a winery also threw us off from the traditional "ma and pa" greasy-spoon eatery we're used to post soccer. We were seated in a (understandably) cold, stucco-lined cave with kegs of wine situated behind us. It was a very classy place and would be perfect for the purveyor of fine wines and a great way to impress a date. The food was very good. The service was also very good. The only reason I didn't give it a top rating was the price. A grilled cheese sandwich was $14! Again, a very, very nice place and great food. Just pricey. read more

We arrived and wanted to do some wine tasting and eat some food to soak up some of the wine from previous wineries. They asked if we had a reservation and we did not (was a last minute idea to eat here) and were told it was an hour wait. We looked around and all the tables in the inside dining room except one was empty. Outside 2 tables were being occupied so they probably did not want to serve food that day. I wanna give this place more but how can I........we made reservations for 4:30 (knowing they close at 5) and when we showed (at 4:36) they informed us that the kitchen was already closed!! A little pissed but just recently became members and WILL go back for sure because from all accounts from what we've heard....it's good food!!! Just wished they would have honored the time slot given or should have noted 4:00 as the last time slot when making reservation online. Wines are the bomb though!! read more

Two of us ordered sandwiches for lunch in the cave. The ambiance was nice but it was quite chilly so bring a sweater. The food was pretty good but not worth the price. We could have eaten at a much higher end restaurant for what we paid for 2 sandwiches and 2 glasses of wine. read more

Did a Travelzoo Cave Cafe coupon (great deal and worth 5 star rating) and a Groupon Oak Mountain Winery tour/wine tasting. Highly recommend you do the tour/tasting (or just sign on with newsletter for "2 for one" tasting), then eat at the cave so you can know what you want for wine while dining at the Cave. Did weekday, which was not busy, and was told by our amazing tour guide, Judy, that the weekend is for members only and it can be very busy. Based on the parking available, the weekends must result in a parking nightmare for members, so I didn't become one and the price per bottle for members was greater than current wine club I am apart of. My wife and I had a great time and tempted to do another Travelzoo coupon in the near future if possible. Too bad the Cave is East facing, so no great view of the sunset, but Moon rising is amazing. read more

sad, so much potential, such a beautiful location, wonderful wine and a staff appearing to work pretty hard .... but ... a REALLY BAD experience -really bad- Arrived at 3pm and were told an hour wait, no problem put our name on the list & bought a bottle of wine to enjoy on the patio, so at 4:15 we checked back in and they seated us right away, ok... restaurant relatively empty at that point but EVERYONE waiting for food, every table... we waited an hour for food (simple food, tacos and a chicken sandwich), after an hour the tacos came out cold and 10 min before the sandwich (& note: they close at 5pm and this is after 5 at this point) - so the manager was making his rounds comping other table's dinners due to everyone being unhappy & ultimately he comped ours as well.. thx I guess - but I really wasn't looking for a free lunch, we just were hoping for good food with decent service to enjoy the afternoon in Temecula, and a cave sounded pretty cool - the moral of the story is: if your kitchen is too busy or too incompetent then do not continue to seat people, just say sorry - out of food or something, we won't be back - it was that bad :( read more

I purchased a lunch special from TravelZoo. We were seated right away. It took a bit to get water and 15-20 minutes later we finally had a server. There isn't any ambiance in the cave and only 8-10 tables. We also noticed the entire time the employees walk through there to get to another section of the winery. It just doesn't seem right. It took a good while to get the food. Once we got it, it was good. Not sure we would return. There's room for improvement. read more

I had family visiting from out of town, and we spent the day wine tasting. After visiting a couple of wineries, we decided to have lunch at the Cave Cafe at Oak Mountain Winery. We were welcomed by Kylie, who invited us to sit inside or outside on the patio (we chose outside). The views are amazing! Went to Cave Cafe with friends for lunch. Our waitress was amazing - so helpful with my allergy and a friend's allergy as well. I was concerned before I go into the Cave Cafe due to 3 1/2 stars review. We tried their yummy Crispy Brussels Sprouts, amazing Cheese Pull Bread, and Pork Tacos for lunch. Mascarpone Cheese cake and Not Your Grandma's Crumble for desserts. We love everything we ordered and it was delicious. This winery is small compared to others but it is unique and calming atmosphere. We love it and we highly recommended. read more

Great tasting food, but the portions are skimpy! The ambiance of the cave setting was ruined by the acoustics, they really need to spray the inside with acoustic texture, sound bounced and amplified by the concrete walls. read more

The new chopped salad is fabulous! Light dressing, beyond yummy! The chimichurri fries are not large steak fries, but huge portion, tender, flavorful tri tip, sauce a bit vinegary. Superb service! Not to be missed! Looking fed to returning! read more

I planned an 80th birthday party for my mother which took place this past weekend. I don't live in the area but my mother, brother and his wife do so I asked for some recommendations to have a luncheon for her. We'd also planned on arriving by limo and I saw that one of the places didn't allow them on Saturdays after noon. I dealt with Rony Walton, their events person, and she was so helpful throughout from beginning to end (and I did this all by e-mail and she would respond that day, or the next if I sent it after 5 or so). She was able to assure me that arriving by limo, if we chose to do so (and we did), was not a problem. Our table for 17 in the Cave was ready upon arrival and we had excellent service from all the staff we encountered from arrival on. Our server, Ricky, was excellent and we were one of a few tables we saw him serving. Before we left, before we had a chance to ask if he would mind taking a picture of us standing near the barrel room, he offered and took several of us in the barrel room. Also, I had gotten my mother a "80 and Fabulous" sash and tiara and all the staff and most of the patrons also, wished her a Happy Birthday and told her how great she looks (she does!). They made her day very special for all of us and EVERYONE said how much they enjoyed the meal they chose. We would definitely recommend Oak Mountain Winery and will go there again. read more

The service here was terrible. We sat down outside and no one came out to give us a menu or take our order. One of the parties in my group went inside to order our food. She told them we needed separate checks. We had no drinks for 30 minutes. The food was good but the service was slow. The waiter told us that a server called in sick. They brought our check and said that they could not do separate checks because they were short staffed. Not a great experience. read more

5 star to Ricky! He saved the day for us! First week of hot summer, we decided to visit Cave Café, where I wanted to try for a while. Driving up paved driveway, we liked the views; however, as soon as we entered the café, our high expectation and sort of excitement started fading away due to lack of their service at the counter. After standing and waiting for someone to greet us at both the entrance to the café and the counter, we felt like we were totally ignored by the wine servers and ready to leave the place. We happened to talk to Ricky at far end of the counter, and he immediately guided us to the café and took care of us. He was running from outside to the café even though others were just standing one spot and serving only few visitors. By the way, our sandwiches were very tasty, Thank you Ricky again! And, we will send you lots of customers! P.S. please provide a service station at the café, where servers can keep their table wares! read more

Not worth the time or money. Food was ok. Wine was not great. Very over priced. $26 for a vegetarian plate. Lunch was over $100. I'd rather pack my own food and go to Palumbo where the wine is at least good. Super slow service even on a Wednesday afternoon. Two stars because view was nice. read more

It was a neat experience and the glass of Mango wine was really good. The food was good, but had we not had a Groupon, we would have probably shared a meal as regular priced meals were a little stretch with the setting. I would actually give this a 2.5 star but it won't let me. This is the second time we have been in the cave for lunch. We thought the first time was just an anomaly that we waited so long but unfortunately it wasn't. We arrived and were seated right away. It took 20 minutes to get the server over to the table and we placed our order. Now we wanted to place our whole order but we were told that no drinks and appetizers first then place the order. We received our appetizer, the Brussels sprouts which I made vegetarian at the 1 hour mark. We then placed our lunch order. When we finally received it at the two hour mark it was warm not even hot. When I said something they said they could cook another but I wasn't waiting another hour. So they gave us a free appetizer (as if we are coming back) of steak fries. Now my whole order was vegetarian does that make any sense? Oh and for sitting there for 2 hours I was entitled to 2 iced teas, they refilled it once even though it was empty for an hour. That was my last visit there. Make sure you've got a couple hours for a warm vegetarian burger! read more

I want to give this place 4 stars but the service and some of the food just couldn't keep up. It took forever to be seated (or even noticed) despite the fact that only a few of the tables were being used. The pull-apart bread is a must order appetizer as it is extremely unique and equally tasty (add the pepperoni!). The Mac and cheese may be the best I've ever had and then the pretzel bun burger was, contrastingly, completely disappointing. Such was the entire experience: completely unique environment paired with slow, inattentive service. Some food incredible, with others completely flat. I don't know what to tell you other than order some good wine and Mac and cheese so that you don't notice the rest!!! Good luck! read more

Love Oak Mountain Winery and their Cave Cafe. The food was delicious! My daughter and I purchased their Cave tour through Groupon and while we were waiting we decided to try out their Cave Cafe. We were so glad we did! We enjoyed sitting outside on their patio, with view of the vineyard. We loved it so much that we became a wine club member and are looking forward to our next trip there. read more
