So recently we went to lunch at The Cave. I hadn't been there in years, but that's the place my son wanted to celebrate his Birthday. So I decided to take him out for a nice lunch for his Birthday . My son recommended The Cave Burger. He said when he had it last time it was so delicious and they serve it piping hot! I was looking forward in trying it. We were super hunger too! I might add, I love the ambience and atmosphere there. The staff is so nice and accommodating. On receiving our food, it was just lukewarm, not enough sauce on it, so it was a bit on the dry side. But actually, it was the first time I've tried it. Although, my son agreed and so did his girlfriend the food wasn't up to par like it had before. So my son was disappointed as he said it didn't taste the same as he remembers. Plus, he was just there a month ago. So kind of them though, they brought a little cupcake with whipped cream and a candle lit. Wished him a Happy Birthday, it was very nice. But I just want to reach out to the manager or owner and say do not serve that cupcake again it was horribly dry, beyond dry. Better not to have anything or even a slice of cheesecake would've been nice especially with the three dinners and hors d'oeuvre that we put on the bill and celebration of a Birthday. I highly recommend visiting the cave restaurant with a group of friends. It's an excellent choice for hot summers in Temecula, especially if you prefer the indoor setting. However, be aware that the inside can get quite loud if live music is playing, so it might not be the most intimate place for conversations. The interior of the cave is beautifully designed, and it's a pleasant experience to sit among the wine barrels. The service was attentive and great, and we had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday there. There were several other birthday celebrations happening at the same time, adding to the lively atmosphere. If you're planning a large group, I strongly recommend making a reservation on OpenTable. They were very accommodating and quickly added our plus one to our group. If you call them and they don't pick up, they'll actually call you back, which is a great service. The food portions were generous, and I had to take half of my chicken sandwich home. The only unusual item on the menu was the calamari. It didn't resemble the typical circular calamari you'd expect; instead, it looked almost like fish sticks. It wasn't the best value for the price, so I wouldn't order it again. On the other hand, the burgers and tri-tip sandwich were amazing. Everyone in our group left feeling satisfied and full. The wine selection is quite impressive, with a tasting flight priced at $40. They also offer Margarita and sangria flights. I opted for a single glass of sangria, which was $17. While it was refreshing, I felt it could have benefited from more fruit and was not overly sweet. So, take what you like from it. Overall, the cave restaurant is a bit pricey, but it's a great option for a group outing. There's a distillery on-site, but it has a long wait if you don't make a reservation. The grounds are beautiful, surrounded by rolling hills of grapevines, and many people are taking photos. Parking is a bit of a hassle. You can park down the hill and take a complimentary golf cart up, or you can pay $10 for valet parking. Cash or card payments are accepted. Visited on a Wednesday evening, 5:30pm, in July 2026. Made a reservation via OpenTable. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, so I made a note in the reservation and requested to sit inside the cave. Plenty of parking. There is parking all the way up and lower spaces available with a staircase. We were greeted by the host who took note of our reservation, then walked us inside to be seated. The cave is sooo cool!!!!! We were seated in the back to the left, where there were many tables set for groups of 2 people. It looked like larger parties are seated to the right of the cave. Our server let us know that on Wednesdays they have a Date Night special for $100! So we ordered off that! One bottle of Sav. Blanc (dry, cold and delicious), 2 house salads (omg the best Italian dressing you'll ever have!!), then we each ordered our mains and shared the cannolis for dessert. Cave is truly a hidden gem and one of a kind restaurant. The setting is a very unique where tables are placed in between wine barrels for a private and intimate feel inside a modern tunnel cave with minimalistic decor one would think you're in a Nordic country instead of California. We had an a reservation for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and the host properly checked us in and we got seated after a very short wait. Since it's a Sunday they have a brunch menu in addition to their regular menu. For starter we had the birria empanada which is nicely fried and comes with consommé (4/5). The pork belly hash is decent but a bit underwhelming and somewhat lacking in flavor (3/5). The duck leg confit is quite nicely done. It's savory and tender with the slightly sweet red wine cherry sauce as a perfect companion along with the tasty mashed potato (5/5). I've been here a few times now. It really became a favorite of mine when coming to Temecula. I like how the barrels are used as dividers so you feel like you have your own private dining area. I love that! The food is good! We ordered Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and that was made with white wine. That was sooooo good! He ordered the filet medallion and lucky me... They had squid ink pasta that day and I love squid ink pasta so I had that. The filet was tender and came with mashed potatoes and garlic string beans. My squid ink pasta was delicious. Tonight was our first time here and it was pretty disappointing. I had made a reservation for my husband's birthday dinner and when we arrived, we were told that if we wanted a table inside, it would be another 20-30 minutes or we could sit outside, which was open seating. We decided to wait for an inside table and we're put on the list. When we got the text saying we were on the list, there were literally 6 parties ahead of us. What is the point of making a reservation if we are just going to be added to the same waiting list as everyone else? We decided to get a glass of wine while we waited and that experience was fine. Nothing special, $17/glass. The lady was nice about making sure we found something we each liked. After waiting 30 minutes and still having 5 parties ahead of us in the waiting list, we decided to try to get a table outside. There were a decent amount of tables open, but all of them needing to be bussed with no one to be found. Eventually one table was cleaned so we sat down. There were no menus so I went back to the hostess stand to try to get a menu and the hostess was not there. Multiple people walked by asking if I had been helped and I said no. They all responded with, she will be back in a minute and they all walked away. Finally I was able to get a busser to help me get menus after standing there for a solid 5 minutes. We ordered our food fairly quickly and even though we were told that the food may take a while due to the kitchen being busy, it came out fairly quickly. My husband and I shared the fried chicken sandwich and the tritip sandwich. Both were quite tasty. Zero complaints on the food. It was yummy! This restaurant was recommended when I booked my hotel at the Vine. Since it was walking distance to our hotel and I never been to Oak Mountain Winery, I decided to make reservations for a wine tour and lunch at their restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour and wanted a small bite to eat to soak up the wine we had. We made reservations to sit inside and I'm so glad we did. Granted the views outside are beautiful, but inside felt more cozy and romantic. I learned through James (wine tour guide) that they placed the tables 6ft apart with wine barrels during covid. They kept the same format and I absolutely loved being tucked between the barrels as it gave us privacy. Mike, the restaurant manager, was our server. He did get tied up with other duties so Elijah stepped in and took care of us. We ordered the sliders which was very tasty. My boyfriend asked for a sweet wine and Mike recommended the Muscat Canelli which he loved. We finished with the churro cheesecake for dessert and that was sooooooo good! I did make a comment to Elijah that Mike forgot about us but he said Mike sent him to check on us. In the end, Mike and Elijah took care of us and they were both friendly and attentive. The wine pourer at the winery recommended this place to us, but I'm convinced she doesn't have functioning taste buds because... why? I ordered the lobster, and it was drier than a sponge left in the desert for a decade. The butter sauce that came with it was cold, congealed, and honestly pretty unappetizing. My fiancé ordered the chicken parmesan, but whatever showed up on the plate was definitely not chicken parmesan. We also ordered the $30 pull-apart bread. They burned the first one and had to bring us a replacement. Ironically, that ended up being the only thing we ate that actually had any flavor. For the amount of money we spent, the food was shockingly mediocre at best. The atmosphere is unique, but a cool cave can't make up for bad food and overpriced menu items. What an amazing brunch! The cave was lit up for the holidays and the cozy tables were beautiful. We started with some bubbly and orange juice. My daughters ordered the salmon, and they were not disappointed. Light, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The lobster was also amazing, cooked perfectly and served with lemon, butter and salad. The corn rice must have been an afterthought, not so tasty. And since it was my daughter's birthday they brought out a small cake that was a perfect end to our meal. The view from the outside of this restaurant is so pretty, it's high up in the hills and has a great view but it's not visible while dining. We ordered the whipped feta appetizer and it was okay, it was very sour and a little overwhelming. I liked it with the celery, but not with the pita. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly, it came with a risotto that was just okay, it was like it was made with mayonnaise and not with cheese so I didn't really care for that much. The sauce on the plate tasted like sriracha and mayo mixed together, nothing fancy. The roasted veggies were pretty good though. The steak was okay, kind of fatty and has some big tendon pieces which we didn't like. The desserts were really good, the bread pudding was like a French toast cinnamon roll with vanilla ice cream on top. It was delicious, the black decaf I ordered with it was strange tasting though so I didn't really care for the coffee. The cave trio was delicious! We loved all three flavors. I don't typically like to leave negative reviews--especially for local businesses--but I felt compelled to share this experience. I had made reservations at The Cave at Oak Mountain Winery for a group of 10 girlfriends to celebrate my 40th birthday. I was really looking forward to a special and memorable evening. The day before our reservation, I called ahead to ask about bringing a cake. When they told me there was a policy for no outside food or drinks inside the cave, I asked if we could simply step outside after dinner (near the parking lot) to enjoy the cake, and was still told no. Trying to make the best of it, I then asked what dessert options they could offer so I could plan something in advance for my group. I explained that this was a milestone birthday and I wanted to make it feel special. The response I received was simply to "look at the menu and order when you get here." That completely missed the point. I wasn't just looking to order dessert--I was trying to create a meaningful celebration experience for a large party. What disappointed me most was the lack of care or effort. There was no attempt to accommodate, no suggestions, no sense that they valued the occasion--or even their customers. As a wine club member, I expected at least a little more attentiveness. I ultimately canceled my reservation, and the response was completely indifferent. I also canceled my membership shortly after, which again didn't seem to matter to them. It was honestly shocking how little customer service was shown. For a place that markets itself as an experience, I expected far more--especially for a milestone celebration. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend them for special occasions. Two stars for their winery portion and their whiskey distillery- those are great!! Wanted to love this place. It's pretty cool. Let's start with the good. The restaurant is very cool. We were sat at one of the tables between rows of wine barrels. It feels like each party has their own private room. The service was pretty good too. What rubbed us the wrong way... I booked the reservation the day before and there were plenty of open times so I thought it would be chill. Turns out there are many different venues there (a distillery, outdoor entertainment areas,etc) so parking was a nightmare. Had to park illegally outside and hoof it up a hill to make it on time. The food.... Charcuterie 2.5/5 When it was brought to us, you could clearly see that it was pre-prepared and stored. You can tell by the cuts that gel together, and that everything is cold. Even the bread was ice cold through and through. It wasn't horrible, but for $35, make it fresh or at least warm the bread and add it after. Chimichuri steak fries 3.5/5 Was the better the thing we ordered. Again everything seemed like it was made a few days ago and warmed up. Good, but so much potential to be great. Poblano Linguinie 3/5 Great potential! Loved the idea, but the sauce needed salt and pepper. I see where they were going, and I'd love to get there! Was just more bland than it should have been. When someone orders a chili pepper based sauce (even a super mild poblano) they expect a little somethin tangy. Over all a decent experience. Me and my wife went here for the first time recently and loved this place. The patio area outside is super nice and would be a fun place to have a drink when it isn't too hot. The bar just inside the doors is very unique. But sitting inside amongst all the wine barrels is so cool. The service was great. My ribeye was perfect, one of the few places that I feel actually cooked it rare, how I ordered it. My wife said her burger was really good as well. We ended up getting a membership, it's reasonably priced and includes plenty of tastings. I've already been back twice this summer and had a great experience both times. So far, we've really enjoyed the membership. The winery feels cozy in the winter and relaxed, airy and fun in the summer. The cave seating is very unique and semi private with racks of wine barrels between the tables. Service was good overall. Our waiter did not check on us regularly, however the assistant food servers checked on us and was able to notify our waiter if we needed anything else. The location has a great hill view. The only issue that my wife complained was that since the restrooms are unisex, one of the inside restrooms had urine on the floor and wall. The management should consider separating the inside restrooms M and F. My other issue is the required $10 charge (plus tip) for valet parking. This place is super cute with all the chairs, tables, umbrellas, games and music outside. Inside the actual "cave", it's super cool with dim lighting. The only thing this place has going for it is the ambience, and even that can't carry the experience. The food is overpriced for what you get, and unfortunately, the quality is nowhere near acceptable. I have no problem paying for good food, but this was plain nasty, no flavor whatsoever. The risotto wasn't cooked through; it had a crunch like raw rice and was served cold. The asparagus was undercooked, and the salmon was completely tasteless. Why make reservations for a restaurant that clearly doesn't take pride in serving quality meals? I've had far better food at Denny's, and that's saying something. I'll start off saying we usually LOVE the Cave. We have been members of the winery for 3 years and love to take our guests to lunch anytime someone comes to visit us and get our tasting flights while we dine on their delicious menu. Everyone is always so impressed when the tastings arrive (I'll post some past visit pictures as well). We were so excited for their Valentine's Day dinner but our experience ended up being kind of weird/ uncomfortable. We checked in at the tasting bar to get our receipt to have our tasting flights at our table like we always do, but once seated, the waiter told us we would have to pay full price (something like 22 dollars each for members). Assuming they brought in extra help for the event that may not be familiar with things, I explained that we got the receipt from the bar for our tastings. The waiter started arguing saying the only way to have a flight in the restaurant was to pay full price. He went on to say that every waiter we've ever had there was 'wrong and gave away free wine and that's why a lot of them don't work here anymore". Just such an odd thing to say.... Rather than argue about the flight i said ok we'll just get the glass of wine with the tasting receipt. He said we'd have to go to the tasting bar (where we literally just came from) to get our glass of wine. So I asked him, then what is this receipt that we stood in line for 20 minutes to get from them for? He tried to say it had no relevance. At this point the mood was already ruined and I wasn't going to waste time arguing so we just ordered our food and moved on. What was supposed to be a romantic relaxing dinner ended up being awkward and difficult to enjoy. On the way out we stopped to purchase a bottle of wine and asked the staff at the bar about the receipt. They confirmed it was to give to the waiter to have him bring our tasting flights to our table. As it has been the other 12+ times we've visited. As it was explained to us when we signed up for membership (and why we signed up for membership in the first place). I'm not giving up on them yet as ALLLL the previous times we've been there were fantastic. Guess we'll see what happens next time but the whole reason we joined there was because we prefer being seated and having food with our tastings - if you think about it we are spending more money than if we just went up to the bar and stood there for our tastings. The food and overall vibe of this place was amazing!! upon arriving we had a reservation and it felt as if they were under staffer or they forgot about us so the service was kind of slow. When someone actually came they were nice and helpful with recommendations on the menu. Overall food was amazing, wine was amazing and the ambience was perfect will be back forsure! read more
