This was my 2nd time there. First time was great, this time it felt a bit underwhelmed. I was surprised that they took the melting cheese bread off the menu. We did ask was there any other bread options. We were giving cold sauces of French bread with cold butter balls, couldn't even spread the butter on the bread. The food was ok, not amazing but not terrible and the wait service was good, What really set things off on the wrong foot for us was that when we pulled up to the valet at the top of the hill he informed us there were no more valet or self parking spots open and that we could drive down the hill park next to the freeway and a golf car could pick us up, which we were fine with. We were sat for dinner with a view of the valet stand and we watched as he didn't turn a single other car away even to the point where he would stack cars on the side until something else open up to park them. At the end of the night they did call a golf cart to take us backdown to our car where we were the only car parked by the side of the freeway. My wife and I tend to shy away from winery dining. That was... until last Sunday when we had lunch at "The Cave" at Oak Mountain Winery. We had no idea how cozy and marvelous the restaurant is with the cave feeling and eating between the wine barrels. Visited Cave Cafe last week before my husband and I went on a paid tasting at Oak Winery. When we asked the hostess for a seat, she asked if we'd like indoor or outdoor. I said "indoor because it's too cold outside." She told us nevermind because they didn't have any indoor seats available and that it was colder inside anyway. Please, if you're going to have outside dining in January, turn your outdoor heaters on! We were seated in the shade and the umbrellas were up blocking the sun from reaching out table anyway. I was shivering so badly that my husband got my coat from the car for me. I heard another table ask for the only heater I saw to be brought to them and for their umbrella to be lowered. As a Celiac, I wasn't confident that I'd be able to eat here as they don't have a marked menu. They have a shared fryer so anything fried was off limits. I ended up with the $23 mahi-mahi tacos which were very generously filled although a bit bland. My husband had the $19 Cubano panini. Overall, it took about an hour from start to finish for our meal, so don't think you're going to come here for a quick bite before your tour. Give yourself ample time and maybe make reservations if you're going to eat here. I cannot stress enough - bring a coat if you're going to eat here in winter. You will freeze without it. For the price, even with the cool cave vibe, it wasn't great. They couldn't make a particular drink and rather than just tell me, they brought me something totally different TWICE. A friend ordered an old fashioned and they served it in a wine glass with a straw. The appetizer was good, but three out of four steaks were way overcooked. We waited so long for food though we didn't bother sending them back. The server was nice but you kind of have to pop out from behind the barrels to get their attention if you need something as they rush past. We went here for lunch on a super hot day and I am so glad I thought to book it! The Cave Restaurant is a really cool place. It's tucked away in a tunnel so it's nice and cool. All of the barrels make it feel unique, as though your party is the only one in the room. I liked that privacy! Our waiter was super friendly and made our experience special with his conversation and his recommendations. The wines were great (obviously). I loved the sparkling pineapple. It was just a shame that they were out of several wines on the menu! When it came to food, we only tried two dishes (the ahi salad and the club sandwich). The ahi salad was delicious, though quite small for the price. I like small so that didn't bother me. My husband's sandwich was also nice- not too toasted and fresh with a side salad. The desserts looked incredible but we didn't have space for one! I'd return for one... My aunt and I stopped here for brunch on a Saturday morning. We sat on the patio and had great views of the vineyard. There's plenty of shade as well & others had their dogs with them so I'm sure it's a dog friendly patio. We both had the traditional breakfast - eggs, potatoes & bacon. We decided to try something new after visiting our winery that we are members at. So we decided to visit Oak Mountain Winery to check out the Cave Restaurant. We had to look up the winery but the website wasn't that helpful as it isn't updated so off to insta and TikTok ... they have free valet service you are only allowed inside if you are dining, otherwise you cannot enter unless you are a member who is sampling that day. I was a little put off by that because we weren't even offered a chance to purchase a membership or explore the options... but that's the winery NOT the restaurant... the restaurant is simple beauty. It's a cave where they store the wine barrels and you came have your dinner experience amongst the wine barrels. It is an intimate place I would have a dinner date or special occasion dinner or lunch. The cave stays cool because of the humidity. The food was delicious I had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the tri tip sandwich. Since we already had our wine tasting at our home winery we chose a beer and old fashioned. YES! They have a bar. We then had coconut creme brûlée for dessert. All of the food was fresh and promptly served. Our waiter was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for inside, she went back inside to make sure there was a table for us and she was gone for another 10 minutes. Again, no "sorry for the wait". She was horrible and ruined the entire experience for us. I didn't catch her name but she had dark hair and fake eyelashes. We will never be returning here because of her, there was no manager that came up and apologized. We had a late lunch here for my sister's birthday for a party of 14. It's a beautiful place, just a bit dark and cold. We were placed at 2 tables all the way in the back. The food was good, especially the chimichurri fries, and our server was nice, it was just too slow. The food reached us at 3 different times, and not consecutively. For example, 5 meals would come out and then 10-15 minutes for another 5, and then another wait for the last batch. We kept having to ask for things, like water and to-go containers. WOW. I HATE GIVING BAD REVIEWS especially in my own town, but this was terrrrrrible. I'm writing in hopes management sees this and addresses it because I'd love to actually experience this winery. My husband booked a dinner here for my birthday. We had a lovely day in wine country wine tasting at other local spots, and he was excited to bring me here to top off the evening. Once our server asked what we would like to drink, I think this set the tone. We just had a day full of wine tasting, and I ordered an iced tea and hubby was good with water, thinking he may order something later. We also ordered the cheesy bread at the same time. The waitress looked slightly disgruntled and took off. A runner brought my iced tea and I took a giant swig of it and spit it out. I got a mouthful of tea leaves! I was like "whoa I think they forgot to filter it" so we asked someone passing if they could get me a new tea. A young man came over and said "we steep the tea, we don't filter it... do you want me to try to take the leaves out?" HUH?! I said never mind, and ordered a soda instead. This must be a joke - you don't serve tea with the leaves. Meanwhile, where was our waitress? For over 30 minutes, we watched her pass by a handful of times, other tables be sat and helped, watched the tea debacle go down and she never once stopped by to ask about my drink, how was our cheesy bread, or to take our order. We finished our bread... got up, went to the bar and paid our tab and left. She approached us finally as we were leaving and said "oh I didn't know you were leaving..." The lack of attention, lack of care, lack of quality... ruined our whole experience. My hubby felt terrible that my birthday dinner was completely ruined. Luckily, we had a really nice day overall and didn't let it spoil it. I highly recommend some training here as the service throughout was horrid. I'm just glad we didn't spend more than the cost of bread and a soda here. We took the kids and my 11 year old son said, "if there was a golden burger this would be it!" About the Cave burger. The salmon and the filet mingion were also 10/10. Was super happy to be able to be seated on a Saturday for a We shared a mixed flight tasting. This included a sparkling strawberry, a Viognier and 3 red wines I can't recall. For food we ordered the bruschetta. The bruschetta topping was amazingly delicious, but we were a little disappointed that it came with cold pitas. We all expected it to come with toasted, crispy warm bread. Also because we were dining at the same time as the big tour group it took over an hour to get the bruschetta. I got the vegan tacos which were delicious and I was very happy with the dish once it came. As it took an hour to get after we ordered as well. We found that dining in the Cave to be an extraordinary experience, with the food being okay. The Wine Bar is fun too and the pourers are exceptionally friendly and reasonably knowledgeable. We ordered several lunch items, such as the Short Rib Philly ($17.99), Shrimp Ceviche ($15.49), Prosciutto Apple & Goat Cheese Flatbread ($16.99) and a Margarita Flat Bread ($14.99), along with a bottle of the Raspberry Sparkling ($34.00) wine. Everything seemed very reasonable and even better, after their Wine Club Discount of 15% to 20%. There is also a 15% Yelp Check-In Discount. I was reallly looking forward to this place but, unfortunately was very disappointed. Upon our arrival we were told the restaurant was behind on reservations. What's the point in making a reservation! The food was also a disappointment. We started with the cheese bread but that could have definitely used more time in the oven because the cheese inside was not fully melted. I also order my filet mignon be cooked medium but it was severed very rare and the potatoes were cold. The food was being rushed out and not being severed hot. I have to say the staff were at least nice and apologetic. The staff were really the only saving grace in our experience. We were very polite back and still left a generous tip. My husband and I will never be rude to a sever for the failings of a restaurant and its management.
