Weekday Tastings (M-F): $22/person (plus tax) for 6 varietals. Weekend Tastings (Sat/Sun): $30/person for 6 varietals. IMO, the best red wines in Temecula Valley! We've visited many times over the years, as this is one of our favorite wineries (and we used to be members). Howard and Roxy are always providing wonderful service and insightful information regarding GB's wines and food pairings. Typically, the tastings include varietals grown at the estate, such as Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Roussanne, with other varietals sourced from Temecula vineyards. They also offer three (3) wonderful dessert wines made from Primitivo grapes (standard, vanilla, and mocha flavors). These are a little lighter than most Port or Port-style and Late Harvest dessert wines. Each tasting comes with a small package of baked bread sticks or gourmet chips for wine clique members, and recently they've offered pre-made charcuterie trays. I always preface my winery reviews by saying that wine tasting is subjective to the individual's palate, service is not. The wines I like/dislike, you may hate/love. I always suggest that you try and decide for yourself. There's a large indoor tasting room, as well as a large, covered patio offering great views of the surrounding vineyards, hills, and neighboring wineries. We had multiple people recommend this winery to us and having visited Temecula many times, we finally decided to give it a shot. The service was extremely slow for there only being 3 tables, including us. We were there for almost an hour and a half and it felt like the tasting was getting dragged out. First time here yesterday and we found this place because they are dog friendly. The view is SPECTACULAR, i literally felt like i was transported to Italy! This is a beautiful property and the views are great. The event spaces are nice and the tasting price is good for the experience ($30) a person. This is unique place that is own by European family. The varietials are Itlaian and French based that are appreciated with a lot of knowledge given by the wine expert. The six tasting flight we enjoyed was also paralleled with some Cab/Sauv and Merlot wines that were comped. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable as I expressed earlier. You have to come to experience and appreciate the overall feel and texture of this place. I do have to mention that the wines and pallet may not be for everyone. Beautiful location perched on a hill with stunning views. The interior and the vibe are casual. Idk if it was just on our visit, but it appeared that majority of the patrons were members and avid wine drinkers. I think it set an expectation that this place is the real deal. I opted to go for a glass instead of a tasting and I had the Mourvèdre. That wine wasn't for me. My friend ended up doing a glass of a blend and I liked it so much more we ended up switching. Definitely should have done a tasting to figure out which one I would have preferred. I also appreciate that they had majority of reds which is something I prefer to drink with wine. This was my first visit to GBV as it's known around the area. It's located on top of a hill so the views are breathtaking. They are currently under some renovation but we did tasting out back with Howard and had a great time. They are strictly a red wine winery and chose the wines themselves that we tasted, fine by me. Howard guided us through our tastings and told us of fabulous food pairings as well as the tasting notes of each wine. This winery was recommended as a stop to our group of wine professionals, including two WSET 3 Somms. (One being my husband) . Driving up, I was very impressed with the building design and vineyards and excited to taste the wines. From there, things got a little weird and surprising actually. We were led through a building that looked like an outdated wedding facility, to a back patio that had round event tables covered in tired, burgundy tablecloths. This is where our tasting was set up. Our tasting menus were laminated with areas to score each wine with a sharpie, which we all thought was really odd. We just wanted to taste through the wines and discuss them. Howard our server was very knowledgeable about the wines themselves, and liked to talk. I wouldn't call him an educator though especially amongst our our group, he's more of a wine salesman, friendly but overwhelming. There were bags of some kind of janky chips on the table, which, if they were to be a palate cleanser, they missed the mark with their spicy saltyness. Howard was very slow to serve us each wine and we could see him on a computer inside the building. There was only one other table of two outside, other than that,the place was empty. At one point I looked in and Howard was at a makeshift tasting counter where he had the open bottles and took a drink right out of a bottle, not kidding. We actually thought this was kind of funny. A man with a dog and a glass of wine mosied through, we figured the owner. He didn't stop to say hello though if he was the owner. My husband and I enjoy seated tastings when the wine is good, the wine steward is knowledgeable and paces it well. None of the wines we tasted were good, I would say even flawed and past their prime. Nothing we tasted was younger than 2018, Howard, said that they like to age their wines longer, maybe they need to rethink this. This winery that looks very charming on the outside but needs a lot of work on the wine program and the overall aesthetics. It has the bones to be a fantastic Winery but the dated 80's vibe, tacky feel, noisy fans, no music, odd tasting menu, cheap seating and bathrooms with odd signs in it all needs an overhaul, it's definitely not the vibe you get from the website. I'm pretty sure from their website that it is mostly a wedding venue and the weddings do look beautiful, so do some areas that we did not see, even a lake apparently! If I could give separate stars, I would've said 5+ for the outside of the building when you drive up and Vineyard views. Zero for pretty much everything else. I rarely right second or third reviews on Yelp so this is probably a first for me. Went to GB yesterday and had the great Howard as our host. He is by far the best we have encountered in Temecula, Napa, Paso or Santa Ynez wineries. We've been to around 70 different wineries now and our experience with Howard is always the best. He does such a great job connecting the various wines to meals he makes and pairs the wine with. Be careful if you go there hungry as you will leave ready for a good meal. It sure helps that the wine he pours is by far the best reds available in Temecula. The GB wines hold up with Napa wineries like Heitz and Stagg's Leap. Left buying a case of 6 different wines. We are "Clique" members and have been for a few years now. Wines of this caliber usually sell for twice what they charge. If you want to impress a wine snob bring a bottle of GB! Third visit to GBV over the years. Finally joined. After the foul, FOUL experience at one of our classic Temecula favorites (where we are also members...at least for now...) I needed a breath of fresh air and I knew this was the spot....even though when we showed up we weren't members. Anyway, spontaneous visit, we were seated for a tasting and Howard rocked it. I had forgotten about the menus/the scoring system/etc/etc....it's sort of funny but I think it helps both the customer and the pourer to understand what you may/may not like and definitely guides recommendations. Plus it gives you something to compare/contrast with the people you're tasting with, definitely guided the Mrs and myself to what bottles we each enjoyed...which was pretty much everything. Maybe actually everything! We were so pleased that it was just as we remembered and the wine was just what we needed. Can't wait too see what the future holds in their "clique." After living here only two years, there are still quite a number of wineries we haven't gone to yet so looking for something to do on a Thursday evening we ended up here! Oh my god what a great experience! We had called this winery about hosting our group's special dinner and due to our other issues we ended up elsewhere. So we decided to come on in and taste the wine and see if we can partner for another group event. Their property has amazing views of the valley from every viewpoint and has a lovely patio when the weather is nice. Christina was AMAZING! She not only remembered us but gave us a tour of the property and talked with us about hosting another event there. At the end of the evening we got to talking with Howard and Ken as well and tasted their amazing reds!! What a fun evening!!! I'm not usually a red lover but truly enjoyed their wines, knowledge and honestly their company!! We will be going back for more wine and hopefully coming back in June for our event!! read more

The hotel we were staying at in. Temecula recommended us going to this winery. When we arrived, it took a few minutes to be greeted. We were finally seated and then had to wait, at least 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. We were then given a laminated wine tasting menu and told this is what we would be tasting. We let the lady know who was helping us that we were on a limited time as we had reservations for an early dinner. We had about an hour. We were then told by her she was very busy that she would do what she could, but she had two had two large tables other than ours, (there was only two of us) all said and done, we were only able to taste half of the wines, and that was because of the time we had to wait in between each tasting. Even though she knew we were on a time constraint, I am sorry the two large tables took up a lot of your time. I did not make us feel too welcome letting us know that there were large tables she had to tend to. We weren't pleased with the wine and that could be because of the whole experience when you don't feel too welcomed, you tend to be negative. This $700ish cost is a commitment regardless of whether you like the wine or not.... yes you must buy something or you get billed anyway (as I did). Last week I had an amazing wine experience with Roxy at Gershon Bachus Vinters. While I am a proud Clique member (for years), this visit hit differently. I needed it. Living near Temecula Wine Country, buying and drinking so much wine (a favorite routine ), I felt like I was loosing touch with what I loved most about wine.... almost taking it for granted. What started as a social lifestyle coupled with wine education, grew into worthy investments, and ultimately one of my passions, was slipping away, and I needed to get back to my "wine roots"... my reason for loving wine and pay proper tribute to this "nectar of the gods." I chose Gershon Bachus to help me through this journey. I needed a full on tasting event from one of the best wineries in the valley, and that is exactly what we (me & Mom) received from GBV and Roxy! Roxy stepped Mom and I through each beautiful varietal from the GBV tasting menu curated by its owners Kenny and Christina Falik. (Attached with notes!) Roxy presented the descriptions and expectations of each tasting; wine notes, texture, taste, and overall impression of the wines so beautifully made by winemaker Dakota Denton. She taught, we listened. Like wine freshmen, we swirled our glasses to cause aeration, closed our eyes and took intentional sniffs and sips as instructed! Although tasting wine is unique to each individual, to my surprise, we agreed with most of the wine descriptions!! This was so exciting, exhilarating!!! I was thrilled to talk about the wines and my feelings on each! Roxy's product knowledge and pairing was amazing, coupled with her bubbly personality, which was the energy that I needed to charge my senses. "ICING ON CAKE: At the end of our tasting, owner Christina Falik walked us through their lovely and enormous property, beyond the tasting room and patio to find a beautifully manicured garden with a pond, waterfall, yet more healthy vines galore and yes, more incredible views. Let me start with - the female owner was such an absolute doll and the saving grace of this whole establishment. But Roxy, our waiter, was one of the most insufferable human beings I've ever had to encounter. She tried forcing up-selling a minimum of four full bottles that we didn't want, telling us we couldn't stay otherwise after she already sat us. She was also extremely rude and unpersonable. She told us multiple times that to spend time on "her patio" we had to pay up and was overall very unpleasant, pushy, and extremely annoying. We asked her to pull shades down to cover the sun and she did nothing about it until we asked someone else. When the shades were pulled down, she said, "oh great, glad you guys figured it out!" She gave detailed information on each wine we tasted and answered all our questions. Needless to say, we became members. I enjoyed all the wines we tasted and the dessert wines too! This was stop 4 on our De Portola Wine Trail event. I visited here once before and did the sit down tastings. GBV had the best food of the trail, a simple grilled cheese with bacon and tomato soup. The bread, which they get from a bakery was delicious. The soup was by far the best tomato soup I've ever had and they did it from scratch. I've never been a big fan but this wasn't acidic, it was so creamy and savory. I'm hoping someone will share the recipe! Honestly this place can make a killer selling this on the weekends in the winter. Everyone here was so friendly. My mom isn't a big wine drinker and she said they had the best food and wine. I frequent the wineries and I've been to every winery in Temecula except 2 and I'm glad GBV is still good. I wish I could describe more of the wine I had but after a long day of drinking, well you understand. I'm actually shocked this place doesn't have more reviews. I recently visited Gershon Backus Vintners for the first time based on a recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing, primarily due to an incident involving one of the owners. The female owner engaged in an unprofessional, slightly aggressive, and loud confrontation with customers at a nearby table, which created a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Her behavior was not only rude but also highly inappropriate for a setting where customer service should be a priority. It made many of us sitting nearby feel very unsettled and speechless at what we were witnessing. The owner got up from a table she was sitting at with some friends drinking as well so I am not sure if this added to the unprofessional behavior, but I can honestly say as a business owner myself never I have seen an owner conduct themselves in the manner that she did. I do not take writing this review lightly, as I am also well aware of how important reviews are for your business and how damaging they can be, but this detailed experience from above is exactly what my 1st experience was. My group had been considering becoming members, but after witnessing this incident and tasting the wine, we decided against it. As avid wine enthusiasts and members of several local wineries, we found the quality of the wine at Gershon to be below our expectations. Given this entire experience, I cannot recommend Gershon Winery to others. read more

Thank you for responding Christina. What's encouraging is that you took quite a bit of time in responding, so it shows you care. Indeed, as you point out it was a below average trip for us since I did take the time to rate several poor experiences - but do know we did visit other wineries and in fact joined a new one during that trip (I'm poor at reviewing every place we go). In hindsight I admit I was somewhat harsh since you were the last visit, but I will stick with my rating though. As for the Mourvèdre, I realize it is one of the more acidic reds but was unprepared for just how acidic what was served to us. It was over the top. Regarding value, if you compare yourself against what other wineries in the region are asking, then indeed yes, you're in line. Since you took the time to read my other posts, you'll see my take is that Temecula overall is getting way overpriced. Value? If I wanted to spend $50 on a bottle of wine - what would I find on the top two shelves at Vons...that's what I use as a gauge when I think of "value." On the tour guide thing - I was referring to guided tours where the guide is there with the group - the one I referred to in my original post (I'm glad you avoid the big limos and busses). As for the décor and ambiance, in our opinion, it does not look rustic/old or anything like a villa with heritage - it is, frankly, ratty looking. The little blue-tooth boom-box someone used for music was also telling, particularly when whosever phone was being used moved away and it cut out. As I said, you care - which is paramount. My insignificant two cents are; invest (heavily) in the space and the guest experience, and only serve wines that will be a "hit" for most. Good luck to you. read more
