My hubby grew up and lived in the area and has been to this establishment many times, but for some reason, this was the first time he brought me to the Catch Oyster Bar. My honest feeling after this meal, "Wow! I've been missing out!" We came around 1:30 PM because my husband wanted Happy Hour oysters. $1.25, you can't beat it. There were also so many great seafood options on their menu that we ended up trying out. A seafood lover and foodie's haven, for sure. Aside from the oysters, we tried the Lobster Roll and Chowder Fries. O-M-G...heaven. The Lobster Roll was phenomenal on a nice buttery, toasted roll with their lemon mayo spread was to die for (don't opt out for that lemon mayo because it totally makes the whole sandwich). The Chowder Fries were so unique: crispy fries with old bay seasoning, melted cheese (none of that gross liquid cheese stuff), bacon, and smothered in...CLAM CHOWDER. I'm drooling just thinking about them. So amazing. A great treat to try and share with your table for sure! Portions were generous and food was top notch. Upon entering the outside seating area, we were promptly greeted and seated by a friendly waitress. Her attention to us from the second we stepped on the premises to leaving the restaurant never wavered. Exceptional! It is a small place with limited seating, and fills up fast, but we were lucky enough to roll in just before the Memorial Day weekend dinner rush and snag the last table they had for two. We ordered the Baked Clams, Fried Oysters Rockefeller, New England Clam Chowder, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and the Lobster Roll substituting the chips for their fries. Everything was incredible--especially the Fried Oyster Rockefeller, we had never seen them done this way with the fried oyster on top. Had lunch at this little gem today! Amazing oysters, lobster roll and of course, a nice glass of wine. But, the most important thing..the service! My friend and I sat at the bar and watched the owner, Mike, make magic in every skillet..and then he noticed that we weren't happy with our lobster rolls..totally our mistake, but they were hot and we didn't realize that when we ordered .. they WERE excellent, just not our preference..and he insisted on making us new, wonderful cold ones..they don't even have that on their menu!!! The place is really small, and there's limited outdoor eating so try to get there early on a prime night. What can you catch but not throw? Oysters! (Actually the answer is a cold, just in case you wanted to try out that riddle on someone). Point is, Catch Oyster Bar is a great spot for some seafood love. I didn't "catch" myself any oysters (my buddy did), but I still found plenty of tasty friends from the ocean (sorry, Ariel). I've noticed COB for a few months now and hadn't had a chance to check it out. A vague menu could be found on their website so I was a tad worried as to the true selections and pricing. But with the powers of Yelp comes review-reading and plenty of pic-posting which helped solidify a fabulous fish-filled trip. I strolled in with my buddy on a late Thursday afternoon and was mildly surprised to find the place empty. This made for a quieter lunch and one that occasionally led to board employees making awkward eye contact with me while I ate. But hey, the place was nice and gave off a clean, contemporary, nautical style. And more importantly, the food was delicious! As soon as I received a menu from the waitress, I snapped a shot of it (do it for the Yelp!). The menu wasn't too large, but pricing was pretty reasonable for seafood. My chum and I decided to split the chowder fries because the name alone screams "Eat me now!" (In a pirate accent, of course). And just like the name, these crispy fries with melted mozzarella, topped with clam chowder and bacon, were incredible. I want to sing it all along Main Street. What an awesome and original concoction. For the main dish we both went for po'boys, he getting the namesake Oyster style and mine being of the shrimp variety. I'm not sure if I was pleasantly surprised or mildly confused by my handheld as it resembled something more along the lines of a lobster roll on steroids. A large, toasted and buttery roll was the bedding for several nicely-sized fried shrimp along with some remoulade-esque sauce and a little lettuce and tomato. Not necessarily the classic kind of po'boy, but well-made and scrumptious nonetheless. A generous pickle spear, fresh slaw, and wonderful kettle chips filled out the plate. I was honestly impressed by the end of our lunch. Overall, Catch Oyster Bar was almost like a phantom bivalve, not knowing what was in store behind the pulled down curtains. I'm happy to report a seafood spot worthy of returning to and just out of reach of that five star feeling. So if you're looking for an edible oceanic endeavor in Patchogue, you'll surely catch it here (and hopefully not a cold). read more

I had some guests over and decided to give this establishment a shot as I am a big fan of supporting small businesses. It did not disappoint. The fish was incredibly fresh. We had fried oysters, fish stew, and white clam chowder, which was praised at the dinner table. We also ordered a grilled chicken as it's the only item not related to fish, and it was done very well. Someone is listening and running with my idea because Catch Oyster Bar is exactly what I had pictured my mind. A local Long Island spot serving up cold local beers and local various fish. I want to enjoy a few good Oysters and a cold beer. My wife & I walk in on a quite Saturday afternoon. A few folks are at the bar sippin' suds, we grabbed a two top and sat down. This is a fun looking place. There lots of beers on tap, various alcohol choices and a good looking menu. There is a Oyster menu board, the Oysters run typically $2.50 to $3 bucks. I saw online, fish tacos. That's all I need, a cold local brew and local fish tacos. I order a Blue Point Oyster Stout and ask about the tacos. Well there are blackened tuna tacos. Wha?? Listen, you can put Gordons Fish sticks in a taco, its still a fish taco. Where are the "local" Long Island fish?? Striped Bass, Fluke, Flounder, Trout, anything? And blackened isn't working. My wife isn't a big raw shell fish or blackened anything type so I asked what are the other available fish? Red Snapper ok? Sure and please don't blacken the fish thankyouverymuch. Just a note on the Blue Point Oyster Stout, its made with local oyster shells and bay salt. Local = good! My Oysters come out, I chose the local Oysters to Long Island, Mmm mm! Local = good! Our tacos come out, soft shells and on the side there are fresh chips & guacamole. The fish was a little on the skimpy side, I was expecting a little more. Not a big deal, The dish was still good for the $12 price point. Catch Oyster Bar is a small, cozy bar that serving up many different types of Oysters and fish. The Lobster Roll and Oyster Po' Boy has my name on it, I'll be back to try both sandwiches. What's the catch? When a new spot opens up, I rush on in and like to keep an open mind, maybe try it again in a couple months or so after they've worked out some kinks. Catch Oyster bar has been open for a few months now and I haven't heard much talk around town about them. Nothing good, nothing bad, yet yelp reviews from the days they opened gleam and glow with 5 stars and high praise... always a sign that they're friends of the establishment and can't be trusted. Well here I am, to give you the first clearly unbiased review of the newest spot to open in Patchogue, slipping in just before the much anticipated New Orleans inspired spot, buttermilks, and the patchogue beer project. First tip I must tell you, is that they now have happy hour from 3-7! This offers you a nice deal on taps for $4 and a couple daily specials such as two fish tacos or cod cakes and fries for $6 (both very tasty) They have craft beer and a full bar, wine on tap as well. Service is friendly and informative, atmosphere is great. Super nice inside. They have a ton of different oyster options and I've now tried all varieties; they were all super fresh. Apparently there's a whole array of oysters and I had to ask immediately about every single one. The bartender Kim asked my favorite and I figure I'll just have to come back often to be able to calculate my answer. I can say that my least favorite are the pebble beach as they tasted the "fishiest." Shockingly they all taste better with the vinegar shallot sauce they provide than they do with the cocktail sauce. The red snapper tacos (2 for $6 at happy hour) are a dream. The menu items, while pricey, sound great and I can't wait to try them out and report back to my yelp fam. You can see right through to the open kitchen and watch your clams and oysters being shucked, fresh fish fried, tacos assembled, and soup stirred. I love the visuals!
