Lobster Roll with fries and cold slaw at Castaways.

Great food. Great service and Great VIEWS. We always have a wonderful lunch here at Castaways. The staff is top notch. We had the Crab Cakes, the Lobster Roll and the Lobster Bisque. We enjoyed everything. The shaded area was much appreciated as we could eat outside and enjoy the Lake Ontario views while not getting a sunburn.

Went there again this late afternoon and continues to be the most down to earth, beautiful service and overall ambiance as we sat waterfront eating 3 delicious meals!

Was looking forward to dinner at Castaways for a long time. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. The server was abrupt, no eye contact, very curt. The menu selections were great as was the view. Nice seating indoors, outdoors under a cover with heaters, or right out on the open deck. The steak was overcooked and tough, a little of bites uneatable, vegetables luke warm, potatoes were not hot seemed like they had been sitting around. The Mediterranean haddock was very soupy and had a lot of feta to the point it was overpowering. I couldn't really taste the fish. I would like to try this restaurant again in hopes of a better experience.

Service!! The waitress was rude. She brought my soup entree out 20 minutes before my partners entree. So we didn't really eat together. The view is spectacular though

Come here during sunset just for the view as the food isn't that great and also pricey. There are chairs on the edge overlooking the lake, so you can come here for a drink instead of dinner. We came here for a date night. As you walk into the back, the view of the lake is gorgeous as you dine. To start off, our table had the Bruschetta Bread ($10) with 4 pieces of bread. The melted cheese on top was something different, but a nice starter. For my main course, I had the Seafood Saute ($39). This was essentially a linguine pasta topped with various seafood. The broth was salty, yet bland. It was also a bit messy to eat with the shells from the clam and the noodles splattering around with each bite. Because of how pricey this dish was, I managed to eat most of this dish even though it wasn't that appetizing. I did also get a side of vegetables that came with the pasta. I also tried some of the boyfriend's New York Strip Steak ($39), which was a bit overcooked. The food is more of 2 stars and really lackluster, but the view is great to bring up a star here.

The dish was delish, we say outside on a lovely deck overlooking the lake. Our waitress was very attentive and fun. The wind came up and the temp went down a bit she provided a heater. All in all it was great.

The view is amazing! The food (fried haddock sandwich and buffalo chicken wrap) were both excellent, as were the drinks. I only gave it 4 stars because the service was pretty slow today. But we will definitely be back!!

First of all, the view of Lake Ontario is the best anywhere around Rochester. This is the place to go for a summer sunset. The interior is a little dated, but the bathrooms were clean. The menu is seafood heavy, but 2 out of 3 of us are not seafood lovers and we enjoyed our meals. I had the Prime Pork Porter House Chop with mushrooms, roasted red peppers finished with a marsala demi glaze. I opted for no mushrooms and this was a delicious, perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful chop. I recommend the Shipwreck cocktail as a summer must-have. We split a slice of carrot cake which was delicious, since our first choice of Italian lemon cake was sold out. I don't know if desserts are made in house, but they're good. I wish I remembered to take food photos, but only took sunset photos. The food is good, but not the star of the show.

Castaways on the lake in Webster was the chosen destination for our date night dinner. We did not have a reservation so we did expect that there would be a wait time. We were told 20-25 minutes by the very young hostess and then about a half hour later I checked again where I was told it would be another 20-25 minutes by the same hostess . It was okay though as we got lucky and there were 2 barstool's available so I got a cranberry and vodka short which was $9.00 and my significant other just got a glass of ice water with lemon. The bar tenders were very busy but the older one was pleasant and took a minute to exchange pleasantries with us so that was nice. When we were finally seated outside the view was worth the wait. Our waitress came a short time later and took our drink, appetizers and main dish order. She was also very pleasant but very busy. Our stuffed mushroom appetizer came a short time later they were hot and tasted okay I have by far had way better stuffed mushrooms elsewhere. When our food came a short time later it wasn't worth the price. My significant other got the broiled haddock with the rice ( that was the best part of his meal) and a vegetable. Because his haddock tasted okay as the rest of his meal did. I got the vegetable cakes a vegetarian version of a crab cake. Which was good it could've been a little warmer and the Cole slaw was very good but the French fries weren't warm and were definitely not to my liking. So all in all we paid $100.00 which included tax and tip and it wasn't worth it. The view is the only thing that made the evening worthwhile.

You are there for the view, not the food. Service was great, servers were so friendly. The food is simply a meal, nothing special. Had the jambalaya which was watery. The crab cakes were regular crab cakes. We had drinks- pretty in color, low in alcohol content.

$50 for a beautiful view of the lake but definitely not worth the price for quality and portion size of food. For lunch I chose the lobster roll. There was 2 large pieces of lobster and the rest was like shredded claw meat. The roll was not toasted. The side of macaroni salad was a joke. The fries were good! My boyfriend had the broiled haddock which was good but again not worth the price($18) It took awhile after we were seated for someone to acknowledge us and bring menus. The waitress kept walking by us and we watched as she cleaned off tables. She delivered the food and never came back to check on us. We were done eating and then she came and asked us if we wanted refills on our drinks. Ice tea ($3.95) which is steep. Tip; do not sit outside if you have a bee allergy as lots of bees, It was nice to take pictures near the water.

He asked the owner his question, and the owner replied, "Can't you read?". My husband said, "Excuse me!". The owner tried to change his tune, but it was too late, and we just walked out. There are so many places to go to for a great fish dinner (The Winfield Grill, Chick'n Out, Bill Gray's, Palmers,...), where you'll not only get great food, but far superior services and get treated with respect. In addition to this owner's terrible attitude, this place has a "Very Fishy Odor", and that's never a good sign when purchasing fish from a "Fish Market". We will never go back to Captain Jim's, and strongly suggest that others do the same.

Rather than chunks of soft white and red meat and visible claw meat, it was cut up big squarish chunks of white, brown, and rubbery meat. I'm sure it was lobster, but the preparation/composition was very different from other places. The lobster was overcooked and rubbery. There was not enough butter. It was in a plain hotdog bun rather than a toasted brioche bun. I had to add more butter. I think you should try a warm buttered lobster roll from Nolan's on Canandaigua ($25), the restaurant or the snack shack, to know what it should look and taste like. For this price the quality has to improve... I won't be back unless I see pictures that it's better. I was really really really looking forward to having a go-to lobster roll spot.

The setting is a big plus as well--being right by the bay gives it a nice view and a laid-back feel that makes it great for both casual dinners and slightly nicer nights out. The only real downside I've noticed is that service can be slow at times. That said, it feels more like they're understaffed than an issue with the servers themselves, who have always been polite and attentive once they get to you. Overall, it's a place I keep coming back to for the food and the atmosphere.

We thought we'd give Blvd Grill a shot. I would categorize Blvd Grill as a sports bar, as there was a row of TVs above and around the bar showing the games of local interest (Jets and Bills games). My wife and I aren't big sports fans, and we sat at a small casual table along the wall for dinner. The bar area, including high top tables was very busy with people obviously enjoying themselves, but there were plenty of available small dining tables for 2-6 people. TL;DR We were pleasantly surprised. In spite of the casual appearance, the food and drink were excellent. My wife ordered a glass of Riesling, which was semi-dry (I would actually peg right in the middle between dry and sweet) and was very smooth without that slight bite some Rieslings can have. I ordered a Blue Moon on tap. They had a small number of basic and IPA brews available. Not a large, but a reasonable selection. For dinner my wife ordered the Chicken French, which is one of her favorite dishes. She cooks this dish herself frequently, and is quite critical of how this dish is prepared when we go out. In this case, she was very pleased with it. I ordered a pesto cod dish that was on the menu. I found the cod tender and the dish overall very tasty without being overdone in flavor or cooking. As others have mentioned, the food isn't cheap, although on this particular night they were selling wings at $1/ea, but we didn't order wings. The main courses were in the $20-$30 range. Honestly, though, we've eaten at some higher end restaurants recently and Blvd Grill had them beat in terms of food quality in this case. The service was good. Our waitress was a young lady who was courteous and efficient. Maybe the food and service quality vary depending on the day or night, but based on our single experience, we'd definitely visit Blvd Grill again.

From the moment we sat down at a high-top along the bar (10/10 decision upon making the reservation), everything just clicked: warm ambiance, buzzing energy, and service that was genuinely friendly without feeling scripted or rushed. The staff made us feel like they were happy we were there--not just doing their jobs. Now let's talk food, because wow. We kicked things off with the Wagyu tartare (luxurious, balanced, melt-in-your-mouth) and duck croquettes (crispy and well balanced). For mains, my son went with the 24 oz prime bone-in ribeye, and I ordered the 14 oz New York strip--both cooked exactly how steak should be cooked. Perfect temperature, beautiful sear, deeply flavorful. Sides were shared and spectacular: roasted thyme mushrooms, potatoes au gratin, and creamed spinach--which may very well be the best on the planet (I will die on this hill). In the spirit of full honesty, when we come back (and we absolutely will), the two items we'd rotate out just to try something new would be the duck croquettes and the potatoes au gratin. Both were very good, but everything else we ordered--and clearly much of what's still on the menu--has an even higher ceiling of potential, and we're eager to explore it. Dessert sealed the deal. My son demolished a crème brûlée with appropriate birthday enthusiasm, while I tackled the caramel carrot cake, which was decadent in all the right ways and not overly sweet. In short: food, service, and ambiance all exceeded expectations--by a lot. If you've never been here: go. If you go occasionally: go more often. This wasn't just dinner--it was a celebration done right. We'll absolutely be back. Note: while their classic steakhouse menu, with some pizzazz, is perfect... My only want for this place would be for another appetizer selection or two that does not contain any sort of fish/seafood as we have family members with sensitivity - and we were hesitant to order the famous house made chicken nuggets with caviar as we are still finding out the range of foods we need to steer away from.
