I had a wonderful meal at Redd while visiting Rochester for work! I sat at the bar and enjoyed the hospitality and great service from the bartenders, who make great cocktails as well. My martini was perfectly mixed and ice cold! The food was phenomenal as well. I enjoyed the lobster risotto appetizer, chicken thigh with polenta and a delicious and complex mole sauce, and butterscotch pot de crème for dessert. The bar was bustling when I arrived, but quieted towards the end of the evening. The restaurant has high ceilings and an upscale but comfortable feel. I'd absolutely return to Redd if I'm ever in Rochester again! read more

I finally had the opportunity to eat out at REDD for a friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago after years of trying to come. I really have to say - for the most part, the wait was worth it. First and foremost, I have to call out their drink menu - while ultimately we came to enjoy a nice dinner, their cocktails were by far the biggest star of the show, with our entrees trailing very closely behind. If you like to partake in alcoholic beverages, I can say without a doubt these are the best cocktails I've had in Rochester, let alone all of Western NY, and this is even put up against drinks from the likes of Cure, Bitter Honey, and Avvino. I don't know if the bartender is just using higher quality spirits as a result of REDD being an upscale restaurant, but the "Burn after Reading", "Wise Guy", and Manhattan are some of the smoothest, most delicious, multi-noted drinks I've had in my entire life. If I don't come back for the food, I will absolutely be back for the drinks, because my goodness, abso-freaking-lutely phenomenal. My friends and I still talk about them now even weeks later. For our entrees we had the NY strip steak, grilled chicken, and a poached salmon, and every single piece of protein was cooked just perfectly. The steak was a beautiful warm medium rare, the chicken was glistening with succulent juiciness, and the poached salmon which I had for my main is one of the softest pieces of fish I've had in my life. It beautifully flaked away on a bed of potato puree and extremely well herbed and seasoned home fry-like potatoes that were ever-so-slightly just-undercooked intentionally to act as a perfect foil to the gorgeously soft puree and salmon itself. If I were to knock anything at all, the winter squash, turnip, and green vegetable medley that came with the chicken and steak was unfortunately far too undercooked for my liking, almost to the point of being completely raw, and while I appreciate letting vegetables sing and respect the beauty of raw, fresh vegetables, I was hoping for a little bit more of chef-y flair, seasoning, or even cooking of them. Besides that, the wait staff was simply top tier and were extremely inviting throughout the entire evening. We felt taken care of and checked up on often and they were the utmost professional. The only thing that was a true negative was the desserts -- if there's one thing I would NEVER order at REDD again, unfortunately our dessert missed the mark entirely. My best guess is due to lack of a pastry chef, but our chocolate tart was muddy and flavorless, not even tasting of chocolate, and the two homemade ice creams we tried - chocolate, and oatmeal followed in suit. We ultimately wrapped up at REDD but then ran down to Char Steak & Grill at the Strathallan for what ended up being a phenomenal dessert experience there. But overall, I have to say - I will definitely be back! The entrees were awesome, the cocktails were life-changing, and the ambience and wait staff were without fault. The tuna tartare with crispy rice puffs was a highlight -- fresh fish, nicely balanced sweet and tangy flavors -- and the chopped salad had a great kick from fresh peppers. After eating at REDD, my boyfriend became violently ill just hours later and has been sick since early morning with vomiting, diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, chills, body aches, and a headache. We are particularly concerned about the tuna we were served, as the symptoms and timing align with a potential foodborne illness. We came here tonight for the first time to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and I loved the ambiance. We had reservations at 8pm and the restaurant was already fully packed, therefore service was a bit slow. This initially left a bad taste in our mouths as we felt forgotten as my husband specifically chose this restaurant to surprise me and celebrate our wedding anniversary. I found out my friend was also dining there with her family and she informed me that it usually isn't this busy at the restaurant. Despite having to remind them that no one had taken our order yet after being seated for over half an hour, I decided to give this place a chance. After that, our service was superb. Our server Jeff was excellent and went through the special menu of the day in detail, of which we decided to order the mac and cheese. It came with generous portions of prosciutto and I loved how it had just the right amount of cheese and wasn't too cheesy. The tuna tartare was very fresh and perfectly paired with avocado, Asian pear and fried rice. I enjoyed this dish immensely. For my main dish I had the bouillabaisse which was a savory dish that had a little kick to it. I loved how it was packed with a bunch of seafood including mussels, calamari and shrimp. It paired perfectly with the crostini. They gave us complimentary warm chocolate chip cookies at the end and I added some of the salt from my seasonal margarita which made the cookie even more perfect. I have to say that this is now one of our favorite restaurants in ROC. I was very impressed by how delicious everything tasted and the presentation. REDD is purported to be Rochester's finest restaurant. It may be, but on the night we dined, nothing tasted terrific, and the pricing was high. Service was fantastic, though; Giovanna at the front is the epitome of gracious. She was very accommodating. Alex was our bartender/server, and he was terrific. Even the bar manager came over to introduce himself. REDD is a well-run restaurant. We ordered two raw fish appetizers, and both were refreshing and tasteful. Yet, neither was a new flavor profile. Our two pastas, one the restaurant's signature rigatoni in a Bolognese sauce, and the other pasta was an oxtail pappardelle were fine. The rigatoni was delicious, and the pappardelle was good, but not earth-shattering. Cocktails were made with expertise, and the restaurant was designed beautifully. The lighting makes everyone look good. REDD gets an upscale crowd who are not interested in engaging. There was an "air" of arrogance amongst the patrons. The people at the bar turned their back towards us, a not-too-subtle way of saying, "Don't bother me." We had not experienced that behavior in Rochester. REDD is a great restaurant, but I don't know if it was worth $290 for two people. read more

I used to like Redd, but after the terrible service and shady hidden charges during my visit on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, I will never return. I made a reservation two weeks in advance for my graduation dinner and specifically mentioned that some of our party were vegetarian. My husband confirmed the final headcount 24 hours prior and again emphasized the need for vegetarian options. He also asked about storing and cutting a surprise cake, and was told there would be a $5 charge. He agreed, and the cake was brought the day of. We were seated and immediately saw the limited menu had no vegetarian options. When I brought this up, our server's demeanor shifted. Though the kitchen was able to offer two vegetarian dishes, the server (blonde guy named Brandon) became rude and sarcastic, even arguing with my father-in-law about serving pizza as a main before finally agreeing to bring it for my grandmother, who doesn't eat meat. Our food took over an hour. When my husband and mom asked about bringing out the cake as it was nearly 10 PM and guests were ready to leave, the server snapped, "Do you want me to clean the table off first?" Then came the worst part: a $60 cake-cutting charge ($5 per person, even though only 10 of the 12 guests ate cake) despite being told it would be a flat $5. The server refused to adjust it. This experience ruined what should have been a special night. While the food was fine, the service was some of the worst I've had, and the cake fee felt deceptive. I was excited to try Reddwood too, but will be taking it off my list. I will not be returning to Redd or recommending it to anyone. read more

This very well may be my wife and I's favorite date spot in Rochester. Service is on point. All servers and bartenders are knowledgeable and do a great job pairing drinks and food. The food itself is outstanding. Wings are my favorite in town, well fried in a delicious sauce. Tuna tartar and oysters are also great when on the menu. The gnocchi are pillowy and cooked to perfection. The scallops are hand picked and also cooked beautifully. We l split the chicken and halibut for dinner and both were delicious. Service was good and food was ok but very limited choices, could have been bigger portion size and none of the meals came with salad or bread. Limited dessert selection and were small and not of a shareable size. Quite pricy for what you received. Not a bad meal but can do better elsewhere for price paid. Probably will not be returning. Other couple we dined with did not like it all. Very disappointed since we waited 3 weeks for a reservation and received only a mediocre meal. Really wanted to love it but did not. I came to REDD as a Pre-Concert Dinner option the place was packed on a Saturday evening, luckily, there was sitting at the bar. I ordered the Eggplant Katsu, and the Utica Greens and a glass of Bubbly Rosé. The Eggplant crispy on top of Jasmine rice with Japanese curry, Carrots, Potatoes and Tonkatsu Sauce, delicious. Utica Greens is a warm broth dish with escarole, pecorino, prosciutto, breadcrumb. Good, but at first if feels salty to the palate. Bread is good to dip into the both. The advantage of sitting at the bar is that one gets to interact with some of the people next to you. When I asked for a Michelin star experience, boy did I get one! We were there in February and it was the best dining experience that I have had in probably over a decade, and may have been the best in Rochester. Redd is owned by Michelin star Chef Reddington, native to Rochester. We have many talented Rochesterian chefs, so I was extra excited to try a chef who has earned a few stars. Our three starters were tuna tartare, squash ravioli, and lobster risotto. My favorite was the tartare although all were delicious. The tartare was immediately bright and refreshing. I got the halibut dinner and something exciting happens to my palette when I have fried sage. It's just so damn delicious that I want a whole plate of 'em to snack on. From start to finish, we were given complimentary dishes to enjoy. One dish, is kind enough, but Chef kept sending out multiple dishes that would be enough for double our group. We barely made a dent in our own dishes that we ordered because we were so stuffed from all of the delicious food Chef Reddington sent out! It really was an amazing experience and an exceptional one at that. The quality and care of the food, customers, presentation, the excellent service and staff, and the vibe. I imagine it's how a famous chef like Gordon Ramsey would experience if he were to dine at a restaurant. I felt so special! Again, such an amazing experience. One of the better meals I've had dining out so far this year. Ample parking, beautiful space, and friendly service. There's a good mix of casual and dressed up and there's a diverse set of diners. For food, nothing ordered disappointed, well maybe one drink that tasted like a diaper, but it wasn't my drink so I'll let it go :p. I had the "Crimson Sky" cocktail. I just finished watching Shogun, so this drink was calling out to me, "go to war and devour this menu" it said. The mezcal was smoky as expected, they did a nice job of flavors on this, you get heat with a little sweet. For food (spring menu) we had the trout, pork belly, wings, lobster risotto, Roberta's Bee sting pizza, and the NY strip. I'd order any of these again, every dish hit its notes. However, the server was never made aware, which made it feel a little less special. Other than that, the communication between servers and assistants was impeccable. The night started with a bowl of broccoli soup, sent out from the kitchen for every guest. I never would have ordered it, but wow--it was AMAZING! Definitely an underdog dish I'd get again. For appetizers, we had the tuna tartare and the chopped salad. The tartare stood out, especially with the puffed rice adding a nice texture. The chopped salad, on the other hand, was pretty average--nothing special, just your typical Italian grandma's salad. I'd probably skip it next time. The REDD wings were phenomenal--crispy, packed with flavor, and definitely a highlight. For our main dish, we ordered one of the specials. I've heard mixed things about REDD's specials, and unfortunately, I have to agree with the skeptics. I hate to say it, but it honestly tasted like dog food. After one bite, we didn't eat the rest. Was treated to a birthday dinner here and it was pretty nice. Not the best of service, which I was not expecting due to what I've heard about this restaurant. They have a nice mocktail menu, we shared some appetizers, wood fired pizza and split two desserts. Portions are on the small side but delicious. Ambiance was clean (aside from some smudges on our water glasses) and the sun was beaming through the window which was a bit uncomfortable as I was squinting and trying to find some relief. Our server didn't come to check on us really at all and we had to try and call him over a few times which felt uncomfortable and we were bothering him. He brought over our check without asking if we wanted any refills on drinks or anything else for that matter and we were trying to flag him down to place another dessert order. We came here for an anniversary dinner. We were not all that impressed. The meal itself was underwhelming. The stir fry dish was a soupy mess. The cassoulet's decent enough, but definitely not worth the price. Socks were not rocked off in the process of eating it. Overall a dull menu for the price. Service was also disappointing. I flagged a couple food allergies when I made the reservation online. I also made a footnote about our anniversary and respectfully asked if they could do anything to make it a special night. I don't get the impression the staff read any of those reservation notes or really care. A small gesture of goodwill like a comped round of drinks would have gone a long way. REDD rides on the coattails of its owner's previous Michelin-star successes elsewhere. The food is just not at that level. It's another fixture in the post-COVID world of fine dining: overpriced and self-important food. Nothing about this meal was special. We're not going back. read more
