A5 Waygu

Love all the staff here! So friendly & work together as an amazing team. Drinks are on point & their garnish is kept chilled & away from bugs. I would recommend sharing dishes so you can try multiple. The presentation is exquisite. The food always comes out hot. Unique & popping flavors that you don't want to miss. The A5 waygu melted in your mouth & needed no steak knife to cut it. Sitting at the bar is an experience as you get to watch them work their magic. Make sure you save room for dessert as you don't want to pass up their chocolate tiramisu. Love the vibe & be sure to make a reservation.

What a great restaurant, and a great night out. Possibly the best restaurant in Rochester. We were seated at the bar where we could watch Chef Cruz and his assistant Marcos preparing countless dishes. Chef Cruz plated every dish to perfection. Lobster risotto appetizer, pork chop, and salmon entrees were excellent. Likewise Cappecito and crème brûlée desserts. Service was flawless. We'll be back. Reservations are pretty much required.

This is my 3rd time dining here. This time it was a night out with the girls. Ambiance is always nice. Room is a bit too dark for my liking but I guess that's the romantic vibe there are going for. Service is always nice. Our servers were friendly. We did the chef's tasting and this time around the flavor was missing in some of the dishes, which I was used to from dining here previously. The crudo that we got could have used some acid or something to brighten it up, oysters were ok. Favorite dish of the night was the seafood risotto and 1 of my friends loved her duck. Drinks are always amazing here and they don't disappoint. Will definitely come back to try the other items on their menu outside of the tasting.

Shell definitely looks the part -- sleek, modern, and dressed to impress downtown. Was a bit difficult to find, it's inside a nondescript white building but at least there's a roomy parking lot! It's giving "fancy night out," even if the experience did not quite live up to expectations. The menu's small and pricey, and portions vary more than the tides. The lobster roll ($36 I think) was ok but gone in about two bites and essentially it was a literal lobster tail in a roll so not much flavors. the lobster ravioli followed suit. At least it was flavorful! I like the corn. The oysters ($22 for four PEI) came pre-seasoned, which kind of masked their natural briny goodness -- I'd honestly rather hit Lento's dollar oyster day where the oysters actually taste like, well, oysters. The bread rolls were tasty, but $12 for three at a table of four felt like a math problem no one asked for. On the bright side, the duck was quacking good, and the shrimp ragù was surprisingly flavorful -- tangy, lemony, and kissed with sea urchin. Desserts were solid, too; the chocolate mousse and tres leches both hit that sweet spot. Cocktails were the real catch here -- creative, balanced, and worth the price. Service could be warmer (we had to bait the server for menu details), but the bar area looked great. Overall, Shell's got the vibes, but for the price, I left feeling a bit under-whelmed. Great for drinks and shared bites, but maybe not the full seafood splurge just yet.

Red shrimp and ravioli

Had a wonderful time. The environment was extremely welcoming, and the pacing for bringing out food was especially great. Love love love the silverware. I had the red shrimp; we also ordered the ravioli, lobster roll, and tres leches cake. All amazing, I especially loved the acidic bite in the tomato broth for the salmon, and the mild char taste that was infused into it. The only two comments is that the lobster roll is small for an entree, and I wish there was a side dish with it. Also, too many different people were checking in on us and servicing our table; it was unclear who our actual waiter was.

100/10 would recommend. The best Oysters we've ever had, Chefs are all so personable and chatted with us on and off the entire time and made us feel so welcomed! We were so happy we sat at the bar! Why aren't you already there?

Simply AMAZING! Ambiance, Food, Presentation, Servers!!! Empanadas, Pork Belly, Scallops, Steak Frites and Duck Breast Make sure you get there!!

wow. what a fun, unique elevated dining experience unlike anything in Rochester. We were blown away with every bite, each dish was perfectly executed: flavor, concept, texture, presentation. We loved the open kitchen design. We sat at the bar watching the master chefs at work adding an element of entertainment to the night. We felt like we were treated as there special guests that they wanted to impress. Chef Cruz & Marko sent little surprise tastings, explanation of dishes, honest recommendations and cared about the occasion we were celebrating: a cancer free screening. It's a pretty place, with some pretty cool, caring and talented people thats what made Shell so special. ...

That lobster roll

Amazing experience! Chris, OK and Scott took unbelievable care of us. The tasting menu was perfectly portioned and timed out. The ambiance was great! With only 6 tables, you're not overcrowded or searching for a staff member. 12 out of 10!!!!

Empanadas

The food was amazing. When you walk in you are treated like a family member. Staff asked us many times how things were going throughout the meal. We had a seat at the bar and watched the chefs cook. Great experience. I recommend the bar seats at the end of the bar to watch them make the food. Ambiance was welcoming. We will be back.

I had booked my rehearsal dinner with Capri when they were a wine bar. Imagine my surprise when I randomly see on Instagram that they have completely rebranded and redesigned the restaurant to be a sports bar. Painted the interior black, changed the menu, even completed the space with some dart boards, a pool table, and beer decor. Not ONCE did they let me know about this change. I felt it was completely warranted that I get my $500 deposit back as this was far from the appropriate vibe for a rehearsal dinner and never was I even given the courtesy of letting me know their restaurant was changing. I have since reached out via email multiple times and left multiple voicemails without reply. I then messaged them on instagram asking for their contact, which they very promptly replied to because they weren't aware who I was. I confirmed the event coordinator was the same woman and email was the same. She has just been ignoring me. I then replied and told them to reply and asked they give me my deposit back and (shocker) they went MIA. Horrible business practices, I bet that if I didn't reach out to them and never saw about this change on Instagram, I would have showed up for my rehearsal dinner to discover this mess. Don't give them a cent of your money, they have plenty more than they deserve from holding my hundreds of dollars hostage :)

It feels like a hidden locals-only joint where you can grab a glass of your fave from a thoughtfully curated list of delicious options, and settle in with your better half, besties or a group of friends and just chill. We've been to Apogee a number of times before and 'after' covid, in colder months when we've been lucky to snag a window table, and in warmer times, like tonight, when we can sit outside and enjoy the flickering fireflies along with our sparkling rosè. Besides the pleasant atmosphere, Apogee has a beautifully appointed interior space, clean bathrooms, and a menu with cheese plates, cake, and more wines than you could taste in a summer. All of that plus super knowledgable 'bar tenders' (more like wine sommeliers) who can take your possibly clumsy description of what you think you want and offer up several perfect options, and you have the makings of a very pleasant evening. Book mark this place and plan to spend at least an hour enjoying an outside table!

As a special events venue, Apogee was flexible with outside food and also with decorations. There was no additional venue rental/site fee, just a minimum spend amount (which we were confident that we would exceed). The venue is cozy and intimate, but has high ceilings so it did not feel claustrophobic at all, even with 30+ guests at one point. I'm a wine snob myself, so I was a bit skeptical initially when I saw their wine list. Most of the wines they serve retail for $10-20. They do have some bottles that are more expensive (retail ~$30). However, after tasting some of their entry level wines (Ancient Peaks Zinfandel & Gouguenheim Malbec), my worries vanished. Everything I tasted was excellent and drank better than their actual price point. Steve was a great host. He was laid back, but still friendly and attentive to all of our guests. He made sure everybody's drink needs were satisfied. He was also flexible with letting us in the venue early to set up and also staying late to clean up. I also liked the fact that they allowed us to bring our own wine, for a $15 per bottle corkage fee, which is fair. Anyways, Apogee is a great venue for a small party. They are flexible and reasonable. I would definitely recommend them as a wine bar and for hosting a private event (especially on a Sunday).

The menu is different than other places, it goes from small to large plates and you order what you want and if you want more- keep ordering. My daughter got a flight of white wines and I got one of their beers, which was an interesting hazy IPA called Baby Kittens. Our waiter Philip was very knowledgeable on the wine selection and helped with the food order. We started out with the Flour City bread, which was toasted and had a dip of whipped ricotta with butternut squash - excellent! Next, we had the salt and pepper squid - their version of a fried calamari appetizer - also excellent with a nice little spice that snuck up on you a little bit. We followed that with the farm salad, which had a great cranberry vinaigrette. Then we had mussels which were over a jasmine rice that had a great sauce with it. The last dinner item we had was the butternut squash ravioli - so tasty! The table next to us got the fries, which was a huge mound of french fries with Parmesan cheese and I think something else on it. It was a lot of food. The waiter suggested their desserts, which was a choice of a huge slice of carrot cake or a skillet baked chocolate chip cookie or brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. We got the latter and it was excellent. The atmosphere was very subdued and great for a date or just a fun night out. I highly recommend visiting Carnegie Cellars!

Our first visit was in January and we've been back 2 more times already. The main dining room is down stairs. The bar area upstairs seems very lively and inviting as well, and I've heard there's patio seating we want to try in the late spring. Service was excellent and very attentive. We loved everything we tried. You can do things traditional tapas style or you can go the appetizer and entree route. We had the calamari to start and some cocktails. For our entrees we each ordered the "feature" of the evening -- my fiance got the steak and I got the salmon. My fiance is pretty 50/50 on how good his steak experiences are in restaurants and he was very satisfied with the entree he had. My salmon cakes were SO good, everything tasted very fresh. The server also did a great job recommending a white wine to pair with my meal. We finished off with our dessert, I had the flourless chocolate torte and my fiance had (I can't recall exactly) a banana cream cheese churro I think? The desserts were amazing every time we've gone. We've had more chances to try other tapas items, the arancini is delicious as well. Also of note was that we had a good group dining experience here in February for a family members birthday. Overall if you haven't tried this spot make sure you do!
