You've gotta be surprised after seeing so many fours and fives of Yelp stars. you're even going to be more surprised when I tell you that the food was really good, and there was a very good vibe. Even the service was good... when I got it. that's the problem, it took forever to get my waitress. We came in as expected at 7 o'clock. We were immediately put in our table. Probably after five maybe 10 minutes later and assistant/bus-girl gave us water. At first we thought she was our waitress so we ask about our drinks. She said that's the waitresses job. Eventually, the waitress came. I ordered a beer. My wife ordered a basic cocktail. And then we waited. And then we waited again. I got my beer at 7:35. I had sat at that table for 35 minutes. that was probably the slowest part of our time, but even the food took longer than he would expect at a restaurant, especially a restaurant at that price level. The waitress apologize saying the restaurant did not expect to be that busy. It was busy enough, but the dining room was never 100% filled. we didn't get out until after 9 o'clock. In fact, I didn't ask for a second beer when my dinner came, by the time I had totally eaten my dinner. I still hadn't received my second beer, to which point I finally told the waitress I no longer want that order of the beer. it's very possible they can't get enough people to work there, but I'm still paying the same price that I would've gotten if there was good service in truth, it's really worth given my Service 3.5 stars, but I wanted you to be aware of what I got on a Tuesday night, so I knew that three stars would stick up like a flaYbeen there once before and it was good and I would've given it. OMGrist! What a cool spot. Big fans of the former Rabbit Room and Grist takes this to the next level. We went for Happy Hour, thinking we would test the waters and it was a wow. This sets the benchmark experience, not just because of the amazing food, but the it's hard to imagine a burger can be this good. The fries are chunky and seasoned to perfection and the sauce is amazing, as it looks ordinary but there's the wow factor in taste. Very hard to describe and probably impossible to duplicate The burger is amazing. Kind of a course ground meat, grilled to perfection. It is very tasty with texture that sets it apart from anything we have ever had. Oh, and a custom-made brioche bun that fits perfectly. We will be back for dinner. Anxious to explore the rest of the menu! The owner and leadership team have put this all together. Menu, environment, staff and service, it all clicks. The happy hour menu offers something for everyone both drinks and food. The staff is attentive and well versed in ingredients, preparation and options. Really a great experience. Generous pours and portions, so come thirsty and hungry! Hats off to the kitchen staff and team to put it all together. So happy to have a great dining experience spot in a historic building. Date night at Grist this past weekend was amazing! Decided to try it out for the first time and so glad we did. We booked an online reservation for Saturday night and decided to go early to grab a drink at the bar. They have a nice selection of cocktails to choose from so I got a spritz and my husband got the smoked old fashioned. Both were delicious and we were able to enjoy on the deck since the weather was nice before our dinner time. Once we finished the drinks we went in to be seated. The ambiance is definitely cozy and moody which I loved. We started off ordering the ricotta appetizer which came with grilled bread, whipped ricotta, roasted garlic and grilled lemon. It was fresh and delicious. The only thing I would suggest is having it come with a little bit of flaky sea salt as it slightly lacked salt but overall very simple and delicious! As for entrees we ordered the burger and fries and the octopus appetizer to split everything. We tried to order the pazole verde instead of the octopus but they were out of that entree for the night so that was a bummer! The burger was juicy and I liked the sauce that came on it and with the fries. The octopus was cooked nicely and not too chewy. We ended the night getting another round of drinks and sitting on the deck by the fire table. It was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back! It is a bit pricey but for a nice date night the quality was worth it. Staff was so friendly and accommodating as well. read more

Was visiting family in the area and they brought us to this spot that they had tried earlier in the week. They liked it so much that they decided to bring my boyfriend and I in too! The building itself is super cool, the old mill really gives a cozy rustic vibe to the restaurant and the art and random pieces of equipment around the restaurant are super cool. Lots of seating - we had a reservation and I'd definitely recommend having one if you're going to try it out. I can imagine it gets busy. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and explained that the food is best for sharing. She gave us lots of recs and brought the food out as soon as it was ready and hot! They are constantly changing the menu so I'm not able to find the exactly names of the plates that we shared. We got a poke appetizer, mini tacos/pulled pork, fish with potatoes, and a pasta dish. For dessert we got the tiramisu which was really tasty. Everything we got was really delicious and generous portions. After dinner we went downstairs for the bar. We got a couple of espresso martinis and an old fashioned and listened to the live music. The music was a bit loud, but it was still a nice vibe to sit and have a drink after a filling meal. Overall, definitely recommend this spot if you live in the area or are passing through! read more

My honest review of grist. - When we walked in we were met with smiles and hellos, and we instantly took in the vibe. Everyone was relaxed, smiling, and having a good time. The aesthetic did not disappoint either. The restaurant can be simply described with one word: GORGEOUS. We had a drink at the bar, and it was delicious, and then were sat early for our table. Kendra, who was working as support for our waitress Megan, was so sweet and attentive. Megan promptly came over and went through the menu with us and we ordered - Caesar salad for Britt with the porterhouse and beef tartare for me with the Everyday But Sunday Sauce. I was stunned by the quality of food. It was hands down the best beef tartare I have had ANYWHERE. I mean, it was quite literally perfection on a plate. My rigatoni had meatballs that melted in my mouth, the sausage was tasty, and the hunk of pork was fork tender. The sauce itself was perfectly seasoned, the San Marzano tomatoes were beautifully cooked, and I had such a huge portion that a lot of it came home. As for Britt, he loved his Caesar and said the dressing was fantastic, he just personally prefers romaine lettuce over red leaf. The flavor of his steak was mind blowing. The fat was perfectly rendered and it was still cooked expertly at medium rare. Lastly, we got cookies for dessert. Two absolutely perfect peanut butter chip cookies that were lightly salted and served with a glass of milk. Unreal. I got an espresso martini and it was also incredible. Our bartender John should not be overlooked either. Great guy, a true mixologist, and we enjoyed chatting with him after dinner. Britt did go up to the kitchen to give his compliments to the chef, who came out and shook his hand. My group and I ordered the seasonal fruit and berry platter since it was brunch/lunch to start with, it was very good and tasted fresh and mixed well with the yogurt and granola. I ordered the breakfast pot pie and it did not disappoint, it was savory and delicious. My group and I enjoyed our visit and wont hesitate to come back! Very tasty meals and reasonably priced for an upscale restaurant & bar in a village environment. Great staff & very nice interior layout. Bar looked great but I'm not into cocktails - check it out though, cocktails sounded intriguing & delightful. Wife & I shared 3 small plates and they were all both beautifully presented & a joy to consume! Staff was attentive & cheery. Great addition to Honeoye Falls. Plenty of parking in Grist lot itself, on Main St, or across Main St in the lot for the Main St Cafe (same owner). Interior was elegant & spacious w/o being pretentious. A bit noisy for old people, but I've had that observation of nearly every restaurant for the last 30 years. read more

Gorgeous bar with plenty of seating, warm and inviting atmosphere, Allison at the bar is just fabulous and makes incredible drinks. Michael the GM stopped over to welcome us. Then we were seated in the dining room and wow. We were blessed to have Elise to serve us who suggested sharing everything and had the best recommendations. We started off sharing a Caesar salad. It was good but the mushroom appetizer we shared over homemade focaccia bread was to DIE For . We then split a burger. Yeah - it was THAT good, if we ordered more, it would have been a waste.
