    Tomahawk steak
    Jessy G.

We had a great dinner here. We decided to get the Tomahawk steak because we hadn't seen it on any Rochester restaurant menus. It was cooked perfectly and had EXCELLENT flavor. We got the fingerling potatoes and the beet salad too. Both were good. The beet salad was a little on the tart side but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Ended the night with a chocolate mousse cake- highly recommend. Service was great. We will definitely be back.

What a fabulous find! It was more new age American with a touch of Persian -- though delicious nonetheless. My husband and visited Rochester and booked a Friday evening meal wherein we wanted to try a variety of things -- he had the kachapuri and we split the wild mushrooms (soo good). He had the lamb shank and I had the duck (the lamb was better). We also had the Brussels sprouts and the fingerling potatoes. And the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Lord knows we ordered too much food for 2 people! The waiter was knowledgeable and came by several times to check in. If it was closer, we'd try it again!

This is my favorite restaurant not only in Rochester, but in all of Monroe County! This is one of the few restaurants where you can actually have a relaxing conversation and actually hear it! And the food is masterfully seasoned and prepared! There is something for everyone and everything for someone. You will not be disappointed. Sounds like a cliche, but in this case it is not. I've never tasted seasonings that worked together so harmoniously! And, of course, the servers are so courteous, which reflects on the management. Make reservations. Also, it's best to call ahead to make sure there is a wagyu saved for you.

I booked a reservation on Resy an hour before appearing at the restaurant, but arrived at 6:45 instead of my 7pm reservation, and when we arrived, the hostess said since we arrived earlier than anticipated, to please give them 5 minutes. There were many available tables that were already set up, and we just stood by the door and waited for a few minutes, which was annoying. I liked the restaurant decor, it is very bright and open. There is no bar seating. The menu had many exciting offerings and we ordered dishes we've had before at restaurants in the DC area. We ordered khachapuri, beef keftedes, duck risotto, lamb shank, and brussels sprouts. I've had better khachapuri and beef keftedes (IMO did not have enough flavor). I enjoyed the duck risotto, which tasted sweet. The brussels sprouts were overly roasted and tasted bitter. I appreciated that all the dishes came out within 30 minutes of ordering. However, service slowed down when we ordered our dessert (a slice of pistachio cake), because it took about 20 minutes to come out, and then took about 5-10 minutes to settle the check, when I would have liked to leave earlier. The server did seem to be a bit busy with other tables. To sum it up, the dishes didn't knock it out of the park for us, and we wouldn't come back.

Chortke lives up to the expectations! Our waitress was very friendly and recommended multiple dishes from the menu as we said it's our first time there. We got the lamb chops for appetizers. The lamb was soft and flavorful! Yumm! For entrees, I got the duck confit risotto and my friend got the scallops. We both were very happy with our choices. Ofcourse, how can we skip dessert? Out of the plenty of options, we chose the pistachio cake. It was light and delightful! Overall, great vibe, food and service. Will go here again!

What an amazing experience. To start, the place is beautiful on the inside. The decor is lovely and feels authentic (at least to me). The owner is the sweetest man ever and made sure we were comfortable and had a great time. Food was presented beautifully. The lamb and duck were braised so well we didn't even need to touch our knives. But the most surprising part was their signature dessert that the owner recommended to us. It was such a unique dish. I was skeptical at first but after a few bites it turned out to be amazing. Would highly recommend trying the Knafeh.

I ADORE Chortke. Easily one of my favorite nice restaurants in Rochester. I've never gone here and gotten something I didn't love. The ambiance is amazing and the service is always prompt and pleasant. Last time we stopped in was for Valentine's Day. I got the lamb shank and my boyfriend got the scallops and everything was delicious. I love how herbaceous their sauces are.

Hands‑down one of the best sit‑down meals I've had in this city in a long time! We began with Brussels sprouts and beef keftedes--the meatballs practically melted in our mouths. For my main course, I opted for the Faro salmon: perfectly cooked, utterly irresistible. My friend went with the roasted chicken, which she declared "the best she's ever had." Generous portions, bold flavors, absolutely satisfying. Service was just as memorable--warm, attentive, and genuine. The owners even took a moment to stop by and chat, adding that personal, heartfelt touch that made the evening feel special. To cap things off, we shared a pistachiomille‑feuille--light, nutty, and perfectly sweet. We thought we were stuffed, but somehow found the room. Every single bite was worth it. Chortke already feels like family--and we'll absolutely be back in a few weeks!

I was a bit disappointed about the lack of kabobs, but the overall dining experience was good. Myself and a couple friends shared some plates and a Tomahawk steak, which was highly recommended by our server. The service was overall pleasant and friendly - not the quickest but that's fine given the atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, I loved the interior design of pink, vibrant colors, and rope accents. This seems like a cool place to book a private party. I found myself in love with the cooked vegetables rather than the meat... Th Wild Mushroom Dish and the hummus that came with it was to die for, and I found myself repeatedly going multiple rounds after the fingerling potatoes and broccolini. The star of the dinner should have been the Tomahawk Steak that was spoken so highly of, but it was cooked well beyond the medium rare level we asked for and the steak was so salty our blood pressure shot up. When asking for water, we noticed the caps of the bottles have deteriorated paper seals. This could grow mold or introduce paper shreds into the water - hopefully they will decide to remove them in the future. I really want to rate this higher, but none of us feel like we would come back unless they had the plates and kabobs that they used to serve.

Amazing experience all around. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and everything we tried was excellent. Service was friendly and welcoming too. Definitely worth a visit if you want great Persian food!!

Flawless Service, Incredible Food, Stunning Atmosphere! Took a chance on this place and it was the best decision! The ambience is stunning--truly one of a kind in Rochester, NY. Our server, Daniel, was outstanding--professional, warm, and made us feel so welcome. The entire staff had the same inviting energy with a touch of class. The food? Absolutely perfect--beautiful presentation, incredible flavor, and seasoning done right. We will definitely be coming back to relive this amazing experience all over again!

What is the red oil that comes with the Spicy Joojeh kabob (may come with others, but I've only ever ordered the spicy joojeh)? It tastes savory and slightly smoky.

It is their signature hot sauce that they make in house.

Is this place still in business? I recently tried to go there and it seemed like the space was completely empty. Maybe they moved?!

I went 8/17. They were open but totally empty. I hope they get busy.

    Is the food Halal?

    Yes

Does the yogurt sauce have milk in it? Specifically cow milk ... Goat milk is ok.

If I had to guess I would say yes. But you might want to call the restaurant to verify

    What are the vegan options?

I believe the falafel is vegan. They have salads and I think other vegan options. The staff is very helpful

Are the kabobs, rice, and sides gluten free? I'm assuming the falafel and the wraps are NOT gluten free.

All rice, kabobs and sides are gluten free the only plate that contains gluten is our wraps. The falafel is also gluten free

    Is the food Halal?

It sure is. Let us know if you have any other questions.

I finally had the opportunity to eat out at REDD for a friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago…read moreafter years of trying to come. I really have to say - for the most part, the wait was worth it. First and foremost, I have to call out their drink menu - while ultimately we came to enjoy a nice dinner, their cocktails were by far the biggest star of the show, with our entrees trailing very closely behind. If you like to partake in alcoholic beverages, I can say without a doubt these are the best cocktails I've had in Rochester, let alone all of Western NY, and this is even put up against drinks from the likes of Cure, Bitter Honey, and Avvino. I don't know if the bartender is just using higher quality spirits as a result of REDD being an upscale restaurant, but the "Burn after Reading", "Wise Guy", and Manhattan are some of the smoothest, most delicious, multi-noted drinks I've had in my entire life. If I don't come back for the food, I will absolutely be back for the drinks, because my goodness, abso-freaking-lutely phenomenal. My friends and I still talk about them now even weeks later. For our entrees we had the NY strip steak, grilled chicken, and a poached salmon, and every single piece of protein was cooked just perfectly. The steak was a beautiful warm medium rare, the chicken was glistening with succulent juiciness, and the poached salmon which I had for my main is one of the softest pieces of fish I've had in my life. It beautifully flaked away on a bed of potato puree and extremely well herbed and seasoned home fry-like potatoes that were ever-so-slightly just-undercooked intentionally to act as a perfect foil to the gorgeously soft puree and salmon itself. If I were to knock anything at all, the winter squash, turnip, and green vegetable medley that came with the chicken and steak was unfortunately far too undercooked for my liking, almost to the point of being completely raw, and while I appreciate letting vegetables sing and respect the beauty of raw, fresh vegetables, I was hoping for a little bit more of chef-y flair, seasoning, or even cooking of them. Besides that, the wait staff was simply top tier and were extremely inviting throughout the entire evening. We felt taken care of and checked up on often and they were the utmost professional. The only thing that was a true negative was the desserts -- if there's one thing I would NEVER order at REDD again, unfortunately our dessert missed the mark entirely. My best guess is due to lack of a pastry chef, but our chocolate tart was muddy and flavorless, not even tasting of chocolate, and the two homemade ice creams we tried - chocolate, and oatmeal followed in suit. We ultimately wrapped up at REDD but then ran down to Char Steak & Grill at the Strathallan for what ended up being a phenomenal dessert experience there. But overall, I have to say - I will definitely be back! The entrees were awesome, the cocktails were life-changing, and the ambience and wait staff were without fault. Thank you for a wonderful experience, REDD, and see you again soon!

I enjoyed mine, but my dining companion's (the Saturn) tasted like straight juice. With dinner, I wanted to get a draft beer and was able to sample the two IPAs. For the price, less than impressed. The overly thick patty was just too much. It was dry and just not for me. I would rather have two well-seasoned and juicy thinner patties. The fries and sauce were good. But not $32 worth of good. The cod itself was decent but it came in a sauce that was cold and odd tasting. Ambiance is fine. It was loud and crowded, but clean. The menu is different than other places, it goes from small to large plates and you order what you want and if you want more- keep ordering. Our waiter Philip was very knowledgeable on the wine selection and helped with the food order. We started out with the Flour City bread, which was toasted and had a dip of whipped ricotta with butternut squash - excellent! Next, we had the salt and pepper squid - their version of a fried calamari appetizer - also excellent with a nice little spice that snuck up on you a little bit. We followed that with the farm salad, which had a great cranberry vinaigrette. Then we had mussels which were over a jasmine rice that had a great sauce with it. The last dinner item we had was the butternut squash ravioli - so tasty! The table next to us got the fries, which was a huge mound of french fries with Parmesan cheese and I think something else on it. It was a lot of food. The waiter suggested their desserts, which was a choice of a huge slice of carrot cake or a skillet baked chocolate chip cookie or brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences. We spent 2.5 hours total at the restaurant. After waiting an excessive amount of time, we watched two tables that arrived at least an hour after us receive their food first. When we politely asked if our ticket might have been missed, we were told those tables ordered before us, which simply wasn't true. We were then told the delay was because burgers take a long time but a nearly two-hour wait for a burger is pretty wild. It took about 25 minutes just for someone to take our drink order, and we were never asked if we wanted additional drinks. We had to flag staff down for everything. No ketchup, no hot sauce, nothing offered. The $30 mimosa flight served in tiny glasses also felt like a complete scam. When the food finally came, two people in our party were served 15-20 minutes before the other two, and the food was cold. One dish had completely raw eggs. When I let the server know I couldn't eat it, she came back and removed the meal from the bill, which was appreciated. However, the interaction itself felt tense and dismissive, which made an already frustrating experience worse. They did give us a round of breakfast shots to try to help pass the time which was appreciated. The food itself was disappointing overall. The breakfast burrito was basically all eggs with raw, bitter avocado, and my husband's burger was missing requested toppings. We also noticed food sitting in the service window while we continued waiting. The only person who was happy with their meal got the biggie fries an it was hot when it arrived. To make matters worse, the bathroom was unheated on an 18° day (feels like 2°) and not clean. We're a pretty chill, patient group and understand that kitchens get backed up but man, this experience completely missed the mark. Ironically, the cooks thanked us for our patience and servers said goodbye pleasantly on the way out. We honestly may have let a lot of this go if the service hadn't felt so dismissive when we calmly raised concerns.

Mom got her Graham Canyon, and Casey got the Dairy Free Peanut Butter and Cookies. Now my eyes were immediately drawn to the Afghanistan Sheer Yahk. Something I've never heard of, and I like to try new things. The nice gentleman at the window explained it's like frozen milk. And it was, but it was so much more amazing than just that. It's frozen regular, dry, and condensed milk with some saffron, cardamon, pistachios, and a little bit of rose water. I know it sounds a little strange, but it was honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten. The rose water isn't overpowering, and I enjoyed the new flavor. The whole dish was icy, sweet, and yet has a warm taste from the cardamon. I could have easily eaten a medium, and I'm so sad I only got a small. That's my bad. We didn't try the kabobs, but I bet if they are half as good as the Afghanistan ice cream, they will be awesome. I will happily make the hour drive from Great Valley to come back and try their actual food when it's available and get a larger size Sheer Yahk for sure.
