We ordered the Spanish octopus, kurobuta pork chop, Duck confit risotto, lamb fingerling potatoes, the pictured pistachio sponge cake which Im forgetting the name of, and a Turkish coffee. The only thing I disliked was the coffee, my husband described it as follows; "Tastes like burnt moth balls that have been sitting in a closet" do what you will with that description. While all the dishes we ordered were very good my favorites were the potatoes (tender, warm, properly cooked, & paired delightfully well with the beet puree and lamb), and cake (light, decadent, & the perfect end to our meal). I recently had the pleasure of hosting my office holiday party at Chortke, and the experience exceeded every expectation. The setting was absolutely gorgeous, creating the perfect backdrop for a festive evening. Our server, Jake, was friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout the night. The food was beautifully presented--and tasted even better than it looked. When we asked to switch our table location, the owner accommodated us with a smile, and the rest of the staff was equally gracious and welcoming. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we ended up staying for over three hours, and the team never once made us feel rushed or questioned our long visit. We had a great dinner here. We decided to get the Tomahawk steak because we hadn't seen it on any Rochester restaurant menus. It was cooked perfectly and had EXCELLENT flavor. We got the fingerling potatoes and the beet salad too. Both were good. The beet salad was a little on the tart side but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Ended the night with a chocolate mousse cake- highly recommend. Service was great. We will definitely be back. read more

What a fabulous find! It was more new age American with a touch of Persian -- though delicious nonetheless. My husband and visited Rochester and booked a Friday evening meal wherein we wanted to try a variety of things -- he had the kachapuri and we split the wild mushrooms (soo good). He had the lamb shank and I had the duck (the lamb was better). We also had the Brussels sprouts and the fingerling potatoes. And the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. This is my favorite restaurant not only in Rochester, but in all of Monroe County! This is one of the few restaurants where you can actually have a relaxing conversation and actually hear it! And the food is masterfully seasoned and prepared! There is something for everyone and everything for someone. You will not be disappointed. Sounds like a cliche, but in this case it is not. I've never tasted seasonings that worked together so harmoniously! And, of course, the servers are so courteous, which reflects on the management. Make reservations. I booked a reservation on Resy an hour before appearing at the restaurant, but arrived at 6:45 instead of my 7pm reservation, and when we arrived, the hostess said since we arrived earlier than anticipated, to please give them 5 minutes. There were many available tables that were already set up, and we just stood by the door and waited for a few minutes, which was annoying. I liked the restaurant decor, it is very bright and open. There is no bar seating. The menu had many exciting offerings and we ordered dishes we've had before at restaurants in the DC area. We ordered khachapuri, beef keftedes, duck risotto, lamb shank, and brussels sprouts. I've had better khachapuri and beef keftedes (IMO did not have enough flavor). I enjoyed the duck risotto, which tasted sweet. The brussels sprouts were overly roasted and tasted bitter. I appreciated that all the dishes came out within 30 minutes of ordering. However, service slowed down when we ordered our dessert (a slice of pistachio cake), because it took about 20 minutes to come out, and then took about 5-10 minutes to settle the check, when I would have liked to leave earlier. The server did seem to be a bit busy with other tables. To sum it up, the dishes didn't knock it out of the park for us, and we wouldn't come back. read more

Chortke lives up to the expectations! Our waitress was very friendly and recommended multiple dishes from the menu as we said it's our first time there. We got the lamb chops for appetizers. The lamb was soft and flavorful! Yumm! For entrees, I got the duck confit risotto and my friend got the scallops. We both were very happy with our choices. Ofcourse, how can we skip dessert? What an amazing experience. To start, the place is beautiful on the inside. The decor is lovely and feels authentic (at least to me). The owner is the sweetest man ever and made sure we were comfortable and had a great time. Food was presented beautifully. The lamb and duck were braised so well we didn't even need to touch our knives. But the most surprising part was their signature dessert that the owner recommended to us. It was such a unique dish. I was a bit disappointed about the lack of kabobs, but the overall dining experience was good. Myself and a couple friends shared some plates and a Tomahawk steak, which was highly recommended by our server. The service was overall pleasant and friendly - not the quickest but that's fine given the atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, I loved the interior design of pink, vibrant colors, and rope accents. This seems like a cool place to book a private party. I found myself in love with the cooked vegetables rather than the meat... Th Wild Mushroom Dish and the hummus that came with it was to die for, and I found myself repeatedly going multiple rounds after the fingerling potatoes and broccolini. The star of the dinner should have been the Tomahawk Steak that was spoken so highly of, but it was cooked well beyond the medium rare level we asked for and the steak was so salty our blood pressure shot up. When asking for water, we noticed the caps of the bottles have deteriorated paper seals. This could grow mold or introduce paper shreds into the water - hopefully they will decide to remove them in the future. I really want to rate this higher, but none of us feel like we would come back unless they had the plates and kabobs that they used to serve. read more

After seeing the very high reviews on both Google and Yelp I was very excited to dine at Chortke. We had a reservation but arrived early and they were able to accomodate us. That brings us to the service. Now, I am not sure if it was a night where they had a call off or this is their general way of staffing but it was very chaotic. Considering it was still early the person who met us at the host desk also was our waiter.. no problem there. But, then, I noticed the servers were behind the bar, pouring and opening wine, pouring beer, were often in the kitchen. The lady that appeared to be a manger/front was serving dishes but also wiping tables. I didn't understand the theory behind all of this - whether it was a one night all hands on deck or that was just the norm. I felt bad for our waiter because when he was present, he was very kind but there was no check in after our entrees, no cocktail refills (I was out of wine for quite a while), we waited a long time between drinks and courses and overall the service was very slow. We started with a braised lamb flatbread. I will say the bread itself was good. It was soft and pillowy. As the menu rotates I don't recall what else aside from the random chickpeas, yogurt sauce, and pickled reds that were on the bread but it fell flat. The lamb was very bland. Nothing really was elevated in this dish I got the Faro Island Salmon with Tempura Oyster Mushroom. Miso. Kabocha Squash. Furikake. Yuzu Ponzu. The salmon was a sizeable piece. Cooked well. But, the sauces - I guess there was squash in there? Overall just overpowered by the miso My partner got the porkchop. Once again, the cook was very good - but the pomegranate sauce was so reduced and concentrated it made you pucker your mouth. Chortke is a la carte, which I don't entirely understand. Since they have such elaborate flavors in their dishes - I don't see how to add a roasted cauliflower that comes with lemon goat cheese, pistacho, and turmeric should pair with my basically peanut butter salmon. It just seems to be too much. I will say this 3 is closer to a 3.5 but I just think the price isn't worth a second try sadly. The interior is beautiful and warm. Complex flavors and ingredients you wouldn't normally expect, but are so glad they were bold enough to include. Their lamb lollipops are little bites of perfection. Their salads have three unique flavors that take turns impressing your mouth. The Brussels sprouts are crunchy, savory, with a tart pomegranate drizzle that pops. Mmm soooo good. I love Mediterranean food so I was so excited to finally try this place since it was revamped. First of all the ambience is super nice and clean - it's large, airy, and bright. The plates, drinking glasses, and even the burlap napkin ring stood out to me as great little touches to the decor Let's talk about the food! So much variety!! The salad was super fresh (watermelon was so flavorful), the lamb chops were succulent and seasoned to perfection (the hummus under the lamp was insanity), the tuna entree was delicious with a fantastic sauce, and the saffron rice was IMPECCABLE. I think they excel in their sauce!!! If u get an entree I highly recommend getting the rice on the side, it pairs well with all the different sauces in their entree The duck fat potatoes were the only disappointment for me. The prices of duck meat itself was great but the potatoes were not as flavorful and essentially salt less. Maybe fries? Would be better and could hold more seasoning Finally the 4 star rather than a 5 is for the service. It must have been a slow day so there was one server for 7 tables. He didn't tell me about specials until I prompted him and it took so long for him to come to our table to take our order. We had also wanted to order a drink with entree but he never made it and didn't seem to remember. I'll chalk it up to having to take care of so many tables but I felt this really took away from what could have been a great experience. Great service, lovely atmosphere and delicious food that's also very photogenic. The octopus was recommended and it was perfect. Some places don't get the texture right for octopus but Chortke does. The lamp lollipops were great and so was the sauce. The cheese bread is not just an app- it's practically a pizza. The cuts of meat were really high quality. Be warned that you may order too much and then not have room for dessert, but you're not going to want to miss it...The highlight was definitely the kataifi which was light, floral, and heavenly. read more

It's a bit of a drive for us so we don't get here as often as we'd like, but we never regret the trip once we dig in. The servers are well versed on the menu and can discuss the dishes intelligently. The dishes themselves are varied with options for any palete but not so many you worry they can't all be cooked to a high standard. hortke This past Saturday, the weather was skeptical at best. I had noticed that there were no available reservations online until after 7:45 pm when I looked around at 12 p.m. that day. I decided on a whim to drive there and see if there were any walk-ins available. I fully intended on being told that they wouldn't be able to accept our table of two. To my complete surprise, the hostess was able to take us. We arrived at 6pm and she had told us she expected a table to be ready in about 15 minutes. Again, I figured that it would be longer and was okay with the wait. I had a backup restaurant in mind if this didn't work out. 6:15 on the dot, we were walked to a clean table and seated. This was my first time here, and I was very impressed with the atmosphere and friendliness of the waiter, hostess, and another waitress staff that I encountered. The restaurant is currently only serving beer and wine. I ordered a local rosé from the Finger Lakes. We ordered Duck Confit Flatbread and were very happy with that choice. The braised lamb shank and Maine scallop entrées were spectacular. Our waiter suggested ordering a side, and we ended up ordering both the fingerling potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Each dish was unique and full of flavor that had us reaching for more. The portion sizes allowed us to bring some home while being satisfied after finishing our dinners. I forgot to review this place - I ate here back in September 2024. The place was a bit hard to get to and we had to wander around a little to find it but that's probably on us! It wasn't crowded but it was definitely busy-ish. The lighting was good and we had a nice table. We got a lot of good dishes. We started off with the Grilled Spanish Octopus and the Wild Mushrooms. We also got a Watermelon & Feta Salad - which I don't think is currently on the menu anymore, but was excellent. We got the Brussels Sprouts and Salmon also. I don't remember what the dessert we got was called, and it was pretty sweet - the crunchy pastry balanced nicely with the cream. I had not been to Chortke since they reopened. We went as a group to sample the new menu. We had a reservation at 5pm and it was fairly empty but filled up as the evening went on. So make a reservation. Our waiter was excellent (sorry I forgot his name). We ordered a few apps, 2-3 main dishes and all of the sides to share among the 6 of us. Note: if coming with a large group, they only allow splitting between 2 cards. After we ordered, they brought out some rolls and oil to dip. A different waitress bought out an extra piece of bread (just 1) which we didn't ask for. When we asked for more bread, we were told it was a $5 dollar charge. We said no thanks after that. I enjoyed all of the dishes. I do think the octopus was a bit too charred but it was still good. I am sad that they no longer offer lunch as I really enjoyed the lunch platter I used to get from time to time. When the bill came, there was indeed a $5 charge for extra bread which was then comped out. This was confusing because we never got the extra bread but ok. I understand the need for smaller restaurants to have a limit but this just didn't sit right especially as we'd already placed our orders. Either offer complimentary bread or list it as a menu item. It's a Friday night after a long week of public service. All I wanted to do was relax, have some great food, and catch up with a good friend. Initially, Chortke was not on our radar of the evening, despite both of us stumbling across this restaurant on our own, but when we learned the few places we wanted to go to, did not have any open tables this evening, to our surprise and delight, Chortke was available. This place is amazing! From the moment you walk in, you're met with vibrant colors, intricate fixtures and artwork, it's just stunning. It's spacious so you don't feel like you're sitting on top of the other table, very well laid out. The food...THE FOOD! What I appreciate the most is the thoughtfulness they put into their dishes. Our server recommended some dishes and we listened. (I wish I remembered his name) We ordered the Khachapuri Flatbread, Grilled Spanish Octopus, Maine Scallops, Duck Fat Fingerling Potatoes, Roasted Cauliflower, and finally, the Brussels Sprouts. I cannot even put into words how AMAZING this meal was. I will definitely be returning and just like their website says, "An experience like no other" read more

Returning to Chortke is always a wonderful experience. The food and the service are always excellent. Definitely start with a flatbread. The homemade flatbreads are truly wonderful and exceedingly filling. And the flavors run from savory (Khachapuri) to slightly sweet (Crispy Prosciutto with Fig). In the past, I've also had the Foie Gras and would highly recommend that as well. Last evening, my wife and my dinner partners enjoyed both the roasted chicken (always on the menu) and the duck confit with risotto. Both dishes were elegantly plated and exceedingly delicious. What a wonderful mélange of flavors. But it was the dessert last evening that put us over the edge. If available, you have to have the toasted Kataifi. What an elegant twist on a traditional middle eastern dish. The pistachio cream in the toasted with honey Kataifi was to die for. I think next time we'll just have flatbreads and Kataifi. Going to run out to WalMart of all places soon to pick up some Kataifi and try and replicate it as best we can. I came back to Chortke for the first time since their renovations and new menu, and it is very impressive. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. The decor is modern, romantic, and cozy at the same time. It's a great place for date night or with friends. I visited with a party of 6 and we all shared dishes. They do not split checks beyond two, for future reference. We also were not aware that extra bread was $5 upcharge each (for one roll). I tried the Georgian cheese bread (khachapuri) and jeweled rice and both were flavorful and savory, perfectly balanced. The rice was especially bright with the addition of barberries and texturally interesting due to the Marcona almonds. The cheese bread is *fantastic* and I could eat two by myself and be satisfied. I also sampled some of the brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and duck fat fingerling potatoes -- all delicious. The potatoes have some spice to them. I liked it but some others in the party said they were spicier than they expected. The brussels sprouts were my favorite because they were cooked crispy and the pomegranate glaze was perfectly salty/sweet. The new Chortke is very different than the past iteration and the prices are definitely more expensive. They are using higher quality ingredients, so I understand the need for higher prices. Now dear reader I know you have been here to there prior incarnation. Loved it of course.. but this huge space I had always wondered what they would with it.. they had ideas and it's come to fruition. It's light and bright, shades of green, pink white and lovely overhead lighting. A few tips if you want to go make a reservation, I tried Resy but at the time it stated they were in "the soft opening phase" and it looks like no dates are available. Call them.. it is what it is for the short term. The more you know. The menu will be updated by the season and if you leave here hungry I would be dumbfounded. The portions as always are generous. They use excellent ingredients. I got the following The Date Salad, the dates are cut up and are tossed with mixed greens and endive with a light vinaigrette. I can see two people eating this. I got the Kabab made with Wagu Beef & Lamb with blistered tomatoes and saffron rice & it came with tzatziki (I asked for extra you should too and it's house made) it was full of umami and I could not finish it. They also brought out some grilled pita with a bowl of olive oil with I believe sumac in it. I had a few glasses of white wine..a nice touch with what I ate. I ended with the Pistachio & Pomegranate Panna Cotta. Now it's not sweet per se, you do get that hit of sweet from the pomegranate culis. Service is not rushed and professional and staff is helpful. The owner is around and it's obvious he loves this new incarnation and wants you to love it too. I sat at a small table on the banquet side it had some lovely velvet like pillows and seating. It also gave me a good view of the whole place. If you are annoyed that they changed the dynamic you gotta try the new. What's nice when you do pay for your meal you can bust out your card or scan the QR Code from your receipt to pay a nice touch. I will be back and you should visit. Been here 3 times, and each time the food is excellent and tastes fresh. I will note their standout friendly service is consistent. The interior is so beautiful. It feels like you are transported to a different city. The colors are warm and seating is so comfortable. I really like the shrimp tempura, all the salads, and the rice. The salmon was delicious as well. I haven't had trouble getting a table without a reservation, but I do recommend one if you have a bigger party. The owner is so friendly. One of the most interesting restaurants I've ever been to! Delicious food, great atmosphere and service! Went in on a Friday night and it was not as busy as it should have been! I was a bit wary, because many of the dishes sounded unusual to me...if that's what you're thinking, STOP RIGHT NOW! The food is amazing...so well prepared and seasoned--each bite a little different than the last, with varying textures and flavors!! Omg!! We started off with several appetizers...lamb lollipops with zataar, pistachio and a roasted garlic hummus, my daughter and son-in-law were very impressed ...shrimp tempura, marinated in garlic and herbs and served with a red chili sauce and a lemon aioli--the shrimp were huge and crispy...delicious! Their beet salad was fantastic, served over a Persian yogurt sauce, there were cubed beets, citrus sections, mint, a seasoned walnut crunch, toasted pumpkin seeds and arugula, lightly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette! Lastly, a crispy prosciutto flatbread topped with figs, fontina, feta, arugula and an aged balsamic drizzle...it was one of the best things I've EVER tasted, Now, onto the entrees! After sampling all of the appetizers, my one daughter and I split their Faroe Islands salmon. Served over wild mushrooms and snow peas with Persian bitter orange and a ginger soy glaze...perfectly cooked and delicious! Other members of our party had the roasted chicken in a turmeric spice over a carrot puree, a North African herb sauce and surrounded with crispy shaved carrots and topped with asparagus spears...wow X 2! The last entree sampled...or should I say devoured...was the seared yellowfin tuna, served with a Calabrian chili sausage spice, , baby artichoke, Campari tomatoes, Kalamata olives, pickled fennel and marcona almonds! Everything amazing and NOT ONE LEFTOVER! The desserts were ridiculously good! A pistachio panna cotta topped with figs and pistachios, rose petals and drizzled with local honey and kataifi, a dessert made with shredded phyllo pastry, similar to baklava but layered with a custard and I don't know what all else except it was over-the-top fabulous! We had an amazing anniversary dinner at Chortke. Food was absolutely delicious and flavorful. You can't go wrong with any of the appetizers on the menu. The octopus is my husband's fave. And the lamb lollipops are amazing. I also tried the Fig Prosciutto flat bread which was also yummy and I had plenty left over for a delicious lunch the next day! Love the decor of the restaurant. As soon as we walked in we were taken away by the beautiful light fixtures and decorations. What topped the night off for me was the customer service! It was absolutely top notch. I felt like I was a VIP guest. The owner was so warm and kind. Our server was so sweet. And on top of all of that, they gave us a card for our anniversary! Just amazing!!! We will definitely be back again. Now 1 of our new favorite restaurants in Rochester!!! read more

Absolutely STUNNING place. Unlike others, I never experienced Chortke before the reference, but it sounds like it's completely different. Everything was immaculately designed, from the decor to the chairs to the dishes. And the FOOD. I am not very familiar with Persian food, so it was an absolute delight to experience. Incredible flavors and textures, and everything was so healthy, fresh, and perfectly cooked, not to mention plated to really impress. I had the mushroom skewers, chicken, and "fried dough" dessert. Everything was just so richly flavored and wonderfully textured. A full sensation experience. I feel really lucky that we have a place like this in Rochester. read more

We were here years ago when it was a counter-service place. We liked the food but had not been back. The transformation is amazing. It is now full serve dining and very nice. The ambience is quiet and upscale. The service was excellent. and the food was delicious. It is a little pricey, but it was worth it. read more
