After 5 years at RIT, I tried this place one last time on the day of my graduation for nostalgia sake. And regretted it so much and understood why I stopped going here. Extremely slow service. And more importantly, disgusting food. Something as simple as nachos was totally messed up. I tried more than half their menu due to its proximity to RIT and literally didn't like a single dish. Only came here for drinks on the patio but WOW what a beautiful patio it is! I really enjoyed my moscow mule and the pretzels were seasoned to perfection, and served up with beer cheese. The interior is probably in need of an update, but the patio boasts a lovely fire pit, and lots of tables - all with umbrellas for shade and comfort. Parking is easy and the Henrietta location is convenient. Their beer list alone is enough to sell me, and our server was super sweet, with food and drinks coming out quick quick quick. A shell of what it used to be. Darker inside and everything was sticky. Beer list has gotten weaker which is understandable because no one was in there. Played pool. No chalk Pool stick were sticky. Normally I love MacGregors, but as a college student trying to only treat myself to eating out every so often, the portion sizes on my recent visit were TERRIBLE for the price this time around. This is not normally an issue when I get the chicken tender basket. It was barely big enough to count as a kids meal, and I've never seen a 'chicken tender' sliced so thin. We waited for over an hour for our food, it finally came but was not quite what we ordered. One person in our party of 6 waited for a flight if beer, but it never arrived. In the end the waitress couldn't even produce a check since the printer didn't work. In summary - I very disappointing experience. read more

so had a quick bit to eat last night at Macgregors in gates. At one time you always had a good meal and fair for the price. Well i can tell you not so much anymore. The only thing that was good was the service, I will tell you the young waitress was very good, friendly and efficient. After that the experience went right in the toilet. First the menu has shrunk a great deal which honestly is happening everywhere and I get it. Labor and cost are an issue and everything is up. But it does not mean you have to sacrifice quality to make a buck, My partner's chix sandwich was small, dry and not taste my Beef on Wick was the same. And both sandwich's were more like sliders for $15.99. the Fries that were suppose to be Steak fries were not and were terrible, soggy and a bunch of broken pieces. I would not recommend to anyone if your looking for good food. If it's just beer then have at it. read more

Three of us had some tasty eats and drinks here. Awesome brew list with a terrific variety! We shared the spinach salad, beef on weck au jus and the blarney stones. They were having a busy night. As a result food took forever to come out. Manager ended up comping us the blarney stones, which made us feel a lot better about the wait. Let me tell you, if you are in Rochester, try what you can't find anywhere else...the Beef on Weck, and it was TERRIFIC here! The bread is what makes this so special. YUM. I placed an online order for pickup from the restaurant (my husband and I used to love this place when we lived in Rochester) we always look forward to getting it when we're in town. I opened my salad when we were on our drive home to find a bug crawling around my salad. We don't live in the area so I couldn't return the salad. I called to get my money back and they told me they could only cancel the order and re bill me for the two items I ordered. So I said ok only to find they never cancelled the order and just charged me two times. After a few phone calls and some hassle the manager did refund us twice to compensate for the difficulty. To start, I've been going to MacGregor's for well on 35 years now, even when they were on W. Henrietta Rd. I used to frequent this place 3 or more days a week. Today is the last time. Let it be said, the bartenders are very nice, attentive people who do their best to accommodate the customers. My problem is with the cooks, managers and ultimately - Owner. The past 3 times I've been there, the food has been CRAP. I used to bring friends, girlfriends and family there for lunch, dinner and a few times for holiday party dinners. I will never again enter this establishment! Today, after the last two BAD lunches, I ordered a 'Beef on Weck' with steak fries, thinking there was no way to screw up this easy lunch. Well, they found a way to do it. Anyone in western NY knows the beef in a 'Beef on Weck' DOES NOT come out of the kitchen with the meat looking "Gray". It is supposed to be pink. Not today... The horseradish should light up the nostrils on the first bite - unless it's very old. I dumped the entire little container on the sandwich and could barely taste the horseradish. The 'steak fries' were regular french fries that the bartender says "that's what they claim are steak fries". Well, I guess that means Wendy's, Mac D's and Burger King also serve steak fries, for MacGregor's were the same. The last time I was there (around 2PM, weekday) for lunch, I ordered a Philly cheese steak. The meat came out burnt and the peppers and onions must be made of gold because there were only a couple pieces of each on the sandwich. My girlfriend had a chicken sandwich that she said was dry and tasteless. So, today I 'tried' to use my loyalty card, which had $18.75 on it, to pay for part of my lunch. The bartender told me the card wouldn't work... that she would talk to the manager. He told her to get my name and address and they would put the points from today's lunch on my card. Now, why would I want more points on my card that I can't use. The bartender said she'd ask the manager to speak to me. She came back and said that he claimed he was too busy. Too busy to spend 2 minutes talking to a 35 year customer. And why would I ever consider coming back to a restaurant that serves terrible food, can't use customer loyalty cards, and managers who don't give a crap about loyal customers. I hope that $18.75+ goes a long way toward your future 'cause you'll never get another dime out of me! Today I cut up my loyalty card at the bar and asked the bartender to give it to the manager and tell him that I said, cram it where the sun don't shine! I tipped her 30% and left. This place feels like a Rochester institution. Since a while back, they've had the most incredible selection of draft beers - dozens of 'em - and a pub fare menu that amply covers the bases and fills the stomach. We've been going for years, and now it's our go-to casual place for a beer and a sandwich. Besides the impressive number of drafts, no one thing stands out. What stands out instead is the list of features: - back patio with umbrella tables - typical local fare: wings, garbage plate, fish fry, reuben - plenty of other pub fare: burgers, pizzas, wraps, apps - beer flights - TouchTunes jukebox - constant sports on well-placed TVs - pool tables - arcade games - dartboard (iirc) - giant bar to sit at - space for large parties - ample parking - reasonable prices - last but not least, good service They've experienced some changes in management recently, and their expansion through the area got cut short by the pandemic. This was our first visit to MacGregors and it went like this...First off there's plenty of parking and easy entrance for all...Next the bar service...A tad slow but not terrible either...Now onto the food and table service...The menu is all things pub fare and that's okay, we were having a few beers and not looking for Haute Cuisine...I ordered the chicken finger basket and the wife got an order of wings...My chicken finger were super large and very good and the fries also good...My wife's wings although she asked for extra crispy, were not so much, as most places that can't seem to get this simple request right, oh well...Anyhow all in all it was a good time with two meals and 4 beers at a cost of $110.00 with tax and tip...Give them a try and enjoy. read more

This is a very typical mediocre neighborhood bar. Not even a good neighborhood. While I was there, there were people getting into verbal altercation and almost erupts into physical fights. Not their fault but kind of their fault when they let it go on for almost 20 minutes. Took almost an hour to get my burger. I was told "the kitchen was flustered". The restaurant was 2/3 full. I understand short staffing but I do not understand not flavoring your burger. I had to add salt and ketchup to my supposedly Rueben sandwich/burger. The fries was decent but after waiting for an hour, I really thought I was better off going to a drive through and a happy meal. What a mistake coming in. Most likely won't return. I haven't been in a while and we went for drinks with friends after dinner. The atmosphere was lively at 10 pm and the staff was very attentive. The drinks were a generous pour and the game was everywhere with so many TVs there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I hear the food is good and can't wait to head back for some wings. read more

I wish there was a zero star option for this place. I hate being a rat or whatever but I'm so livid. I worked here for a couple months as an assistant manager and they mess with everyone's paychecks, overwork their employees, and never give anyone time off. On a serious note, they over serve alcohol all the time, and let people drive home drunk constantly. Especially college kids at RIT. My grandpa died so i had to take time off and the manager Rick was mad about that. A couple days after my grandpa died i told my managers that i had to drive to philly to pick up my sibling for a funeral and they said they didn't care and i'd have to work my shift anyways. So a couple days ago (the day before i had to drive 12 hours), I had to close the restaurant till 3am after a super busy night, and be in to open at 10am, so the day i had to go pick up my sibling, I was only late about 15 minutes (10:15) and the owner with no explanation or anything screamed in my face, took my keys and fired me. I asked for an explanation because i had never been late before or messed up anything during my shift and he screamed "its none of your fucking business, get the fuck out!" This is probably our favorite bar and grill to hang out at in Rochester. the bar tenders or awesome and the servers are friendly, professional and likely the most patient group I've seen anywhere. It's the kind of saloon my wife and I look forward to getting to after a long grinding work week and sometimes day. We have lived in henrietta our whole lives and when asked where a good place to stop in to for a drink and a bite it's always our go to pick. Overall a good place for some beer and apps. The bartender was nice enough to offer suggestions based on their specials that night and what kind of beer we were in the mood for. They have a ton of taps but the beer menu is nicely organized. For food we tried the wings, fried pickles, tater totchos, and fried pierogis. They have plenty of tables around the pool tables so you can easily eat and play. They also have electric dart boards. The best: wings were super crispy, good sauces, and excellent chunky blue cheese. The tater tots is a huge portion! And they load it with meat chili or meat and beans. Very filling and tasted good. The pierogis were good but just plain. They serve them with buffalo sauce and blue cheese which wasn't my cup of tea. The pickles were super soggy. The only reason this place doesn't get a 5-star rating is because of the flippin' lights above the bar. The flickering and dimming throughout the night was so discomforting. However, the bartenders and staff were phenomenal!! With so many beers on tap, they absolutely key in finding what we liked to drink. Wow! totally disappointing. Our Server was friendly caring and conscientious! I would love to give her a shout out but she never introduced herself or told us her name! We ordered the Macho Nacho appetizer with pulled pork. It was enough food for 8 people! The issue was it was a mountain of tortilla chips with cold pulled pork on top. The toppings (olives, Jalapenos, tomatoes , were all in the center of the mountain of nachos and sparse to say the least. Because the tortilla chips and the pulled pork were both ice cold, it made what little bit of cheddar/Jack cheese hard and cold. I ordered a Medium Rare Canyon Burger. It came out well done and charred . I tried to eat it but after only 1 bite I just couldn't. The unknown server apologized and said the kitchen would cook me a new one and it would be medium rare. I waited another 20 minutes for this burger. by now my wife had finished her ultimate grilled cheese, which by the way should be renamed the way below average grilled cheese. My Burger finally came out. This one was more charred and more well done than the first one. The server apologized, said she was going to get her manager. Fast forward 10 minutes no manager no one came to our table. after waiting 14 minutes the server brought me the bill . She said she was sorry. I had to pay full price for everything even my inedible Canyon Burger! By this time I was so disgusted rather than argue over an inedible $17.00 burger I just paid my bill and left. "Aw man, they' are gonna get Yelped for this one."... and it is not gonna be pretty. I am definitely one to be generous with criticism, but I like to think I'm generous with compliments when they're due too and I do try to take responsibility when I am partially at fault for things going wrong... at least on Yelp, ha. But there is no room to be open-minded about this experience, it was needlessly stupid and bad. I didn't eat breakfast because I didn't have time, and I was picking my bf up from the airport at noon so I knew he'd be hungry too. We went to MacGreggors on the way home, and as a result of its sheer shitasticness, I am now currently having my first meal of the day, at home. It is 4pm, Eastern Standard Time. (I had to stop at the store because we didn't have any food, which is why we went out for a "quick" bite in the first place.) Let's start at the beginning- our server was high. There is about a .5% chance that she wasn't high, just based on what I know of people who walk around high at work. She fit the description. Anyway, I had to send my food back- which really, honestly, I never do. What was this complicated meal I got that they couldn't figure out? Nachos. That's right, a restaurant- more specifically, a person that cooks food for a living- messed up nachos. TWICE! The first time it came out I got it with chicken, and I took one bite of the chicken and knew something was off. I had my bf try it too, he said it was definitely old. Old wasn't the word I was thinking of, more along the lines of rancid, but I supposed that can be the same thing. D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G. Server was no where around *cough*outgettinghigh*cough*, so I went to the bartender, who by the way was awesome, and asked if they could just remake it without chicken, no big deal. The second time it came out, which took longer than necessary for nachos, especially a refire (aka do-over) they were cold, which isn't too much a of a deal breaker except half the cheese was never melted. I'll post a pic. Dude, it's a plate of melted cheese on chips, there are two steps: 1. Place cheese on chips 2. Melt cheese YOU SKIPPED HALF THE STEPS Also, to clarify, the server didn't know anything about it until she meandered by and noticed I had no food, at which point she went into the kitchen and came back out with them, so the food was done before she even knew what happened. Toke up, hunny. The manager seemed to give zero f--ks, never came over, never said anything to me, in fact I'm fairly certain he never left the kitchen, except to stand in the doorway when my bf had to go over there to tell the server- who never came back- that we weren't paying for them. So what's the take away here? If you can't melt cheese, maybe cooking is not your calling. If that's too hard for you, perhaps you can switch to waiting tables... It's interesting that I just read about a person who had been going for 20 years and is probably done. I think we've been going for 30, almost weekly. Certainly since they were at the W. Henrietta Rd location and when they took over the Red Creek location on Jefferson. And numerous takeout orders through the pandemic, too. We arrived on a slow Saturday at 6:15, put in our drink orders. The rest of our party arrived at about 6:30, still no drinks. I think first beers and waters showed up around 6:40. We put our order in shortly after that. Normally we put an app order in and wait until we're working on the app before ordering our mains but, since things were moving slowly, we put all in at the same time, making sure it was clear we were ordering an app. 45 minutes later our app showed up and 2 minutes after that, our mains showed up. I explained how we just received our app and didn't want our mains, the front person assisting our waitress who brought them out, made it very clear he'd just be setting them down in the back and that we can have them whenever we were ready for them. Not a great answer from someone who seemed to be in a manager or leadership role (the delay was annoying, this crappy response was my first warning we were in for a bad night though). 20 minutes or so later, our waitress brought out those mains. 3 of the five of us were served and 2 of us just assumed our meals were soon to follow. Silly us. 20 minutes later, with nobody coming to our table to check on us, my wife got up and sought out the waitress and asked when we might expect the other 2 meals. She was shocked they hadn't come out and we soon found out they were never put in, and were not on their way. At this point, we had enough and said don't bother, just get us the check and boxes for the food that came and was eaten. At this point, snarky front-person came to our table to mansplain to us that everything was the fault of the waitress, who was new, and to rest assured that they would not charge us for the meals we did not receive. I asked for clarification that he said they felt bad but what he was going to do to make it right was effectively nothing, charge us for what we received and not for what we didn't, after such poor service. He was rude and dismissive and interrupted me multiple times as I tried to explain what happened and how we weren't pleased and how if the waitress was so new, she was clearly not trained or supported well enough and it was unfair to put it all on her and that there was blame to share. Ultimately he said there was nothing he could/would do and gave us the manager's name to follow up with (Gabbie, if anyone needs it in the future) which we will be doing when she's in, which isn't for a couple days and I guess I felt the need to vent in the meantime. In summary, we left 2 hours later, with about half of what we ordered (yes the mains were all cold, disappointing, and not without mistakes) and we're probably done with a place that was easily one of our go-to's for a long time. It's disappointing and I could easily overlook and forgive bad service but not poor treatment and the I don't care attitude by people in leadership. His name was Luke by the way and I blame our displeasure of the experience much more on the way he handled this than anything. I also know the waitress's name but I really don't feel like calling her out as she wasn't well prepared to handle tables on her own. She could have avoided some issues with a few more trips to the table to check on us but she clearly needed more training and support and they should have known that. read more

Beer and wings... I'm in! This place is a perfect casual bar to spend time with the best of friends. I love love love their wings. Just the right amount of sauce, nice and spicy with a crispy exterior to keep the meat juicy. They have loads of taps... you'll have lots to choose from. I like to order the 11oz. to get a taste of a few different options. Be warned that some of the lines aren't super clean on the beers that don't rotate or get poured as often as the more popular brews. I like the square bar. You can have a good chat with some of the bartenders there and taste some of the new beers on tap like the local breweries... Naked Dove, Custom Brewcrafters, 3 Heads... the list goes on... Service has always been good here and friendly bartenders to keep you company. Their Irish Nachos are killer. Waffle fries can do no wrong in my book. Of course their wings are #1 - I stick with medium sauce. That's just spicy enough for me. Continuing on the Buffalo sauce train - the Buffalo Burger is a must. Love that crumbly bleu atop a burger and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich is beyond delicious. Lightly breaded and topped with a cabbage bleu cheese slaw. Literally the best combo.
