Great kitchen, friendly staff, old-school vibe. Been going for years and still enjoy it

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while, so a dear friend and I finally came by for a visit. This spot is old-school in the very best way. The staff is fun and helpful, the menu is solid, and the burgers are stellar. If you're sharing, they'll even offer to cut the burger for you which is such a thoughtful touch, because doing it yourself can quickly turn into a big ole mess! They have a great selection of beers on tap and bottled, plus cocktails and other drinks. The customers are characters in the best way, which just adds to the charm. It's also a little bigger inside than I thought. I'll definitely be back. Street parking is available. read more

Super friendly staff, our bartender, Jenna, was really nice, attentive. It's a good old pub, but updated nicely- clean, fresh paint, tin ceiling. The food was excellent. Get the French onion soup. They make it with a grilled goat cheese sandwich instead of the standard croutons. And the cheese is super thick and rich and the broth was delicious. Will 100% get this again. The haddock fish fry was good, crispy but thinner parts of the fish were a little dry. The beef on weck was awesome. Very tender sliced beef, soft roll with lots of salt and caraway. Horseradish sauce was creamy and just hot enough to add some kick. Au Jus on the side so the roll didn't sog out. VERY good. read more

I've been bugging my guy to let me experience the one and only NY beef on kummelweck so he found this place while we are in town. Definitely a great little spot. We decided to split the sandwich because it was a soup kinda day so we each got soup. I had to get the French onion while he chose the chicken tortilla. Both soups were amazingly delicious. Now for the beef on weck...the horseradish mayo and au jus was flavorful and dipping the sandwich into it made it that much more delicious. The macaroni salad complimented it very well. Andy the bartender was very friendly and fun. Thank you for making us feel welcome. The decor is fun and lots of art to look at. Definitely worth a visit! Ordered for delivery while traveling.. I saw they had a Cubano on the menu. So I decided to order it, expecting to be disappointed as I often am when ordering one from different restaurants. As a Cuban myself I am highly critical of so called Cuban sandwiches, there are many imposters out there! typically it's a variation of my beloved sandwich. Not this time, this Cuban is truly delicious the pernil moist and flavorful, which can make or break it. they didn't miss the butter, garlic, mustard or pickles!! One of the best!! I've been here a couple late nights to grab some food but it's usually pretty busy or I'm with friends so I'm not up at the bar for long periods of time. Anyways, I went in with my bf middle of the week for some food and a couple drinks and bartenders skip and Liz were absolutely phenomenal!! Personable, made us laugh all night and got complimentary Jack Daniel's shot glasses (with order of jack fire shots). They made it so we will be back soon and with friends. read more

It's a good place for a pint and a bite, and has the charm of being a local watering hole with games and darts and food. But somehow it always has a slightly odd atmosphere. Some tasty items on offer but a pretty limited menu overall. If you make the right selection it's great but otherwise it feels overpriced and like it's trying too hard. Trendy beer list but it feels like a rougher clientele to drink it. Cramped if you want to park there in a dark corner. Can't quite figure it out. read more

Really disappointed by Angry Goat tonight. If you look back at the pictures that people have posted of the Southern fried tenders, you'll see how good they look. Classic fried chicken breading, but on tenders- what could be better? Tonight, what my fiancee received was frozen tenders. Hands down. They were so bad, she only ate two of them. Not at all worth it. I had the Angry Goat burger, which is a go-to for me, and it was overcooked. I had asked for medium and this was well done. The pancetta was crispy, too! You can see how good it looked in my picture from a couple years ago, but this wasn't like that. The burger itself should not be crispy. And the fries that accompanied it? Nothing like their fries used to be. Definitely also fried from frozen, leading to some of them being dehydrated and uneatable while some of them were soggy. All with no flavor whatsoever, needing both salt and pepper added. We now live down the street so I expect to be back for a drink, but I think we'll pass on the food going forward. read more

Went for the Bills game as I read this is a Buffalo Bills hangout (not official backers bar). It was as expected based on reading other reviews - a little side street dive bar. It was close to our hotel in the theater district. Nice place to watch a (Bills) game. Know there is NO food served. Some light snacks would have been nice. Chips, salsa, popcorn or other tailgate snacks are recommended. Was able to bring my teenage son, which was nice as most bars with no food don't allow kids. read more

Great service from when we walked in, looking for a late night bite to eat. Coming from out of town we didn't expect Sunday night karaoke but enjoyed being surprised by the variety of performances while we were here. Had a delicious kolsch brewed in Rochester and the Beef on Weck which was phenomenal (albeit salty enough to have us running for our blood pressure meds). I'd put it up against any plate in Monroe County and I think you'd have a very hard time finding anything that's even close to this good. The Purple Goat? Unique and delish. The Angry Goat Pub may just be my favorite bar in Rochester. The food and service alone make this one of the best neighborhood bars you can find. As a self-proclaimed garbage plate enthusiast and expert, Angry Goat Pub is in my top 3 favorite plates in Rochester. The main difference between this plate and others you can find in Monroe County is that the homefries are swapped for garlic Parmesan fries, and the meat sauce has goat cheese stacked on top. It's just so good and filling- I had it yesterday and I still haven't felt the feeling of hunger in almost 24 hours. Also importantly, Angry Goat's kitchen is open very late, which is the perfect time to eat one of their plates. The service has also consistently been great. Sometimes at dive bars getting served on a busy night can be a hassle, but here we have been treated very well and served efficiently. There has also been live music here on a pretty consistent basis, but I haven't seen anything like that here. For those looking for a neighborhood bar in the South Wedge, this is definitely the spot to be. Street parking can be a bit of a hassle, so just be careful if driving in. read more

I did consider Covid before writing this review. The ass hat at the bar who rang my food would have benefited from doing the same. I would not know this place existed without the coupon book - you know - the fund raiser one. I called 90 minutes in advance, and when I got there the food just came off the pass - sweet. I presented my coupon, the bar tender was a ridiculous jerk, insisting the coupon was for dine in only. We had 600 cases of Covid in the county yesterday, I told him politely I had no interest in dining in. I ordered food for 4, it was pretty apparent my family was not with me. He initially refused to sell me the food at the coupon price, so I said happy holidays and moved away from the bar to go home. The guy launched into a petchulent tirade, at which point I told him to shove the food up his ass. He realized that $60 for 4 small sandwiches was better than $0 for 4 small sandwiches, and accepted the coupon price. After grumbling under his breath like a little bitch, I gave him the $60, and then gave him the $20 tip I was always going to give. The food was mediocre at best. Burger was over cooked, chicken died for nothing, the rest was bagged fried sides. Don't go here. read more

I was very excited to try the Angry Goat, hoping it'd be our new go to spot near home. The experience however was very disappointing. We went on a friday night and it was pretty busy in the bar area. Squeeze through there and you'll arrive to a space with cool barrel high tables and two booths in the back. We grabbed the booth. You order at the bar and they give you a number and bring out your food for you. The girl working at the bar was very nice We got the chicken tenders with blueberry BBQ sauce, the goat burger and the fish fry. The chicken tenders were the worst I've ever had. They batter on the outside didn't taste like much, and was very thick. The chicken inside was so dry. The sauce tasted very mildly like anything, it was like a sugar free jam.... The goat burger looked appetizing when it came, two huge slabs of cheese on top of the patty, I was expecting tons of flavor. Wrong. No flavor, just more than necessary grease oozed out as I bit into the burger. I requested medium rare, it was medium, though weirdly I had a chunk that was chewy and raw-ish. The only saving grace for this burger were the bacon bits. I ended up just eating those and ditched a quarter of the burger. Even more disappointing were the fries. They were not crisp at all and there was no potato flavor...are these potatoes...? Maybe some salt would have helped. I didn't finish the fries, which is a very very very rare occasion. My boyfriend got the fish fry and said it was the worst fish fry he's ever had, and he pretty much orders this anytime we see it. The batter was weirdly hard versus the flaky crust I would have expected. You can tap on it with your fork and nothing would break. The fish inside was piping hot which was good, but was dry. The fries were in the same condition as mine were. Overall, it would take a lot for me to come back. read more

I love this spot for a casual drink and well made bar eats, even takeout! Go for the pretzel sticks, nachos, and wings... and those smothered fries. Who can resist beer cheese? Also, the burgers are a must. I recently ordered the pub burger on GrubHub. Love that brioche roll and the burger is huge - it's a 1/2 lb. so you're getting a good portion. Simple, but delicious and a little extra indulgent with the addition of bacon. I had mac salad on the side, but I wasn't a fan (surprisingly too tangy for me) so next time I'll stick with the fries. The sweet potato fries are a good add too. Their lineup of beers on tap is pretty solid. I opt for sours if they have them or tequila. The Angry Goat burger was divine - goat cheese, balsamic, arugula, caramelized onions - some of my favorite things all piled on a burger and cooked to perfection. The truffle fries were delicious as well, but cold by the time they arrived to us, unfortunately. If none of their burger combinations sound good to you, you can create your own. Try.the.burger. It's one of the best in Rochester! With goat cheese, arugala, carmalized onion, and pancetta, the flavors compliment each other really well. I had the mac salad alongside it and it was good as well, different than the typical stuff and you can tell it's homemade. My partner had their steak sandwich and enjoyed it as well! We split the smothered fries and they were good (honestly think they would be the ideal drunk food). I've been here once before and had the wings, they were awesome and I highly recommend the garlic parmesan. We decided to try this place out on a Sunday evening. The bar is where a lot of seating is but there are dividers between each set of two seats. There are also tables available. You walk up to a designated area of the bar to order. The bartender was amazing and was basically running the bar and taking everyone's orders. Once we put our food order in, it took awhile for the food to. The food itself was okay, we ordered half orders of two different sauces and they came like mixed in the basket so it was hard to tell what was what. I'm a fan of The Angry Goat Pub. A group of us go there for Tuesday Trivia and it's a blast. They have a healthy selection of craft draft beer that is constantly in rotation. It almost seems like their draft choices change on a weekly basis. Just recently they had a Ballast Point as well as a "Friends of Fat Tire" Tap Takeover. The bartenders are pleasant, the physical space is cozy and the bar food is fairly edible. I've had their Angry Goat Burger and it's a pretty decent burger. I think this place is the perfect compromise between dive bar and gastro pub. I'll be back to try more of their food. read more

I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (I opted for Swiss but you could choose Provolone, cheddar or...yuk...American) and asked for tomato. I ordered a side of mac salad. The sandwich was large, although the bread wasn't quite as toasted as I expected. Overall, it was good and so large that I had half of it for lunch the next day. (I don't eat much.) The mac salad was fine, I wouldn't make a meal out of it but it's fine as a side and like my sandwich, it was a generous portion so it was a part of my lunch, too. Since I will remain in ROC for awhile, I will certainly consider ordering from Angry Goat again! read more

Walked into the place was never acknowledged my husband went to the men's room came back and still the bartender did not acknowledge us she was busy at the end of the bar with her back to us eating something with a group of people she obviously knew... Finally she came over to us asked us what we wanted served us never to come back again Still doting on her friends at the end of the bar... one guy signed his check and left without her acknowledging him another customer had to go up to her and ask how she checks out... very shameful! Their cook can't read or cook. Been there 3 times for food. First time ordered the goat plate. The burgers were burnt and it was like chewing leather. The cole slaw was flavorless and the fries were soggy so I sent the food back and ordered the truffle parm fries. Again fries were under cooked and mushy my friend ordered wings and they looked good so tonight I spent $80 on wings and fries for me and the family through grub hub, the whole order was wrong and also cold upon arrival. I got the Lovebird sandwich. It was the most delicious sandwich I have ever had! The chicken was well seasoned, not too thick, which makes it easier to hold and eat. The caramelized apples are a nice touch and the brie made this combination amazing! I highly recommend the Angry Goat Pub. Great drinks and service too. read more
