She was absolutely sweet ,and personable. We have to tell you that these wings might be the best Rochester has to offer. We ordered the Garlic Parm wings,and let me tell you they were so crispy that you can hear the crunch when you bite into it The place has a very hometown vibe, in addition we ordered the cauliflower pizza and it's the best I've ever had since living in Rochester honestly. Friday was our first time there. We were seated right away for some drinks and a late lunch. Service was outstanding and I enjoyed was the atmosphere at the bar. The menu here is so fun! We've tried a lot of different things - the smash burgers, garbage plate tacos, crab Rangoon pizza (my favorite), mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese, and more! This is a typically busy and loud restaurant/bar. The food is generally fantastic but I find it more pleasant to order take out from here. Both times I've eaten in restaurant I had the same experience of waiting for ages by the door to be seated. One time it was busy, one time is was not. Once we were seated, service was okay, but the first time we waited it was for an unacceptable amount of time without acknowledgement. It is also extremely loud inside when it's busy and you will find yourself yelling across the table to talk with your friends. I would rate them 5/5 based on the food alone, but because of my restaurant experiences, I'm going with 3. read more

Kinda disappointing I've been there twice now before I decided to write a review. 1st time I got their 'Kevin Bacon' burger and I ordered it 'medium' with the mac salad for a side. The taste was good but overcooked and dry and it had no bacon. I waited 45 minutes to get my food on a workday and being in a rush with 15 minutes left to eat and return to work, I didn't bring this to anyone's attention. Went back last night, ordered a fish fry with Mac salad and another Kevin Bacon burger for my wife along with their Flight of Wings. The burger was cooked medium this time. The fish is frozen, not fresh. The wings were frozen as well. I ordered Buffalo hot sauce and it was mild...no kick whatsoever. The mac salad this time had way too much mayonnaise. The food here is 'average' and based on my experience, it is also inconsistent. The owner/servers are friendly. This is an average " bite to eat" place, not a food experience place. read more

Of all the bar-style restaurants in Rochester, The Old Stone Tavern is by far my favorite. Water is served iced in a big pitcher, which was exactly what we needed after taking a long walk in the summer heat. The menu is extensive, and everything we've had there has been well-made, hearty, and absolutely delicious. Old Stone's chef puts effort into raising the bar for bar food (ha!). I don't have a picture of the fried cauliflower bites because we simply dove in and started munching, but trust that they're the best I've ever had. Everything is well-constructed and thoroughly thought out as a menu item. The grilled teriyaki chicken tacos were great (if a little more coleslaw than my personal taste), and my dad raved about his Big Plate (Old Stone's version of the famous garbage plate) and called it "the best he's ever had." My mom has ordered the same thing every time she's come--the honey butter chicken and biscuits--and has always taken home half of it to eat for breakfast the next day. The chicken is AMAZINGLY crunchy! It's fried with the same technique as their chicken strips and all the chicken in their sandwiches, and is the real showstopper. I'm still waiting to get together a big group of friends to come here for trivia on a Wednesday, but The Old Stone Tavern's cozy atmosphere and delicious food is absolutely worth your time. read more

Never had specifically a garbage plate before, as it is a local thing, but with a cheeseburger, chili, mustard, onions, and mac and cheese over a bed of fries, you can't go wrong (unless you're describing this to your cardiologist)! All of the elements mixed together in one satisfying bite is so delicious and perfect comfort/drunk food. As for this tavern, the place was clean with nice ambiance and the staff were so friendly. One of the staff took extra time to chat with us even after we had already paid the bill. That shows genuine care when a conversation is had after the transaction has been completed. I went here for dinner with my friends when I was visiting Rochester from out of town. I'm gluten free so we were looking for gluten free options in the city. Old Stone Tavern popped up in our search and we decided to go there since it had good reviews. However, upon arrival we found that they didn't have as many gluten free options as it was led to believe online. The service also wasn't great. We waited a while for our food to come out when we ordered and saw the waitress a total of 2-3 times even though we were one of the 3 tables in the restaurant. She was abrupt and rude when we were ordering and rolled her eyes multiple times during the interactions we had with her. Towards the end of our dinner, our waitress completely disappeared and the bartender just dropped off the bill without a word and left. The food itself was pretty good and we did enjoy the meal. However, the atmosphere and the rude staff was a reason we probably won't return. read more

We were greeted with a friendly smile and served immediately. We ordered an onion smash burger, a garlic butter burger and a veggie burger with fries and tater tots on the side, respectively. My blueberry peach cider hit the spot. Food--5/5 seasoned fries and tater tots perfectly crispy, burgers well seasoned and savory. Condiments at every table. We stopped in for a Friday night fish fry before heading over to the Amerks game - and boy were we impressed. For me, it was all about the fish and they did it right - a great crunchy batter that was cooked right. So often a fish fry is soggy and greasy - not at all with this one. Steaming hot when it hit the table - and the slaw was cool and creamy on the side. Service was quick and friendly - we were in and out and over to the War Memorial well before the first face off. The place was clean and inviting - with plenty of on-site parking. Did I mention how good the fish fry was ? One of the best we've had in quite some time. Somehow they managed to both burn the pizza and undercook it, which is ironic since they buy a premade product other restaurants in the area use. Well, the wife and I decided to visit the Old Stone Tavern on South ave, Rochester NY.. We walked in to order drinks and have wings for super. Not super busy, got seated quickly. Waiter by the name of Todd asked if we wanted drinks and we said no but ready to order our food. Todd replied with well you're going to wait if not ordering drinks. So we waited 15 mins, Todd comes back to take our order. Wife orders wings as planned and I did the same. When I asked about a new sauce they had on menu, wanted to see if I could try the sauce before putting in all on my wings. My friend Todd the waiter replied with, "we're not Apple Bees" so I said never mind bring me the regular sauce. Todd from the time we walked in was rude!!!!!! Todd could've ask me if I wanted the new sauce on the side to try. Todd continued to be rude afterwards with his comments that he didn't care that we no longer wanted to eat at Old Stone Tavern. We decided to NOT have our drinks and paid for them anyway. He killed the vibe! I'm lost for words on why this waiter was Rude. I don't recommend this place because you don't matter as a customer. We ate here as a group while at a hockey tournament in Rochester. Our group had a great lunch and enjoyed our meal. The location is very convenient, and there is adequate parking on the street and out back. There is plenty of seating if you push the hightop tables together, like we did. The service was excellent, and everyone was very friendly. The menu is pretty simple, mostly bar food, but everything was homemade and tasted great. I had a burger, and while a bit greasy, it tasted great. My wife had a gluten free pizza and it was tasty as well. I had the best burger of my life here today. It was the onion smashburger and I'm dreaming of when I can have it again. So much flavor, perfectly cooked, and quality ingredients. The tots had a seasoning on them that put them over the top. Plus they were perfectly cooked. My grandfather had the steak sandwich and said it was amazing too.
