Came here with my in-laws for dinner. Loved the laid back vibe here. All the servers were so nice! Owner told us the daily specials and she was lovely. The food was GREAT! I went with a build you own burger (bonus, Grass fed beef too!), my husband got a beef on weck. The sandwich was good but the meat was thick cut and as a result, was a bit hard to bite through. (I could see my husband struggle). My in-laws got a burger and a fish fry and they enjoyed their meals as well. The main negative was how loud it was in here. There was a table of 4 older ladies that were so rowdy, we could hardly hear each other, let alone the waitress. Needless to say, once their food came, they quieted down a bit. Really cute little bar to get a beer and some food! The inside is very cute, but I love the outside area. I appreciate that they have some healthier options like the salmon salad. Cute little pub... We stopped over for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon. They have an amazing pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries! It is such a perk when they offer something else other than regular crinkled fries. My little one had grilled chicken and french fries, they were cooked perfectly. The other notable thing i wanted to mention is the service. It was slow considering there were no other patron in there other than 3 people sitting at the bar. What a great spot!! We stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. The place has outdoor tables, indoor tables, and my husband and I sat at the bar. There was only one waitress, Tracy, to cover the entire place, including the bar. She was so busy, but handled the place like a champ. She even had time to visit with us a bit when things slowed down a little. I did, however, need a nap after I watched how much she ran around. Love the Cottage Hotel! My friends and I frequent this spot when I'm back home in Rochester. The bartenders are all so awesome and attentive. They often have live music on weekends, and the food is amazing. The lobster bisque is to die for. I love a nice bowl of it for lunch. The head chef is very friendly and really knows what she's doing. She came out and spoke to us while we were eating a couple times. The caesar salad is also spectacular! The greens to dressing ratio is spot on!! Covers every piece of lettuce, and lots of croutons! This is a great place to become a regular. It was my first time back to The Cottage since before Covid. And I've been cravin one of their Cottage Burger for far too long. So when a friend I'd not seen in a while stopped by, it was time for a visit to The Cottage. When you first walk in, even if you've never been there before, it feels like yer comin home. Whether you choose to sit at the bar (limited to available seating only), or in the dining room it truly makes no difference. Today we had the pleasure of being served by Michelle (yes, she had her mask on just before and right after the picture), one of many sisters that either currently work there, or formerly worked there. Therefore, Michelle's been trained by a group of sisters that just so happen to be the best servers  found in Upstate NY. Now I said before that I've been havin a cravin for their Cottage Burger! And you know it's gonna be havin that signature spoonful of horseradish right on top of the 1000 Island dressing. Trust me, my burger, as always, did not fail to impress. It's been my favorite Burger ever since I moved into the area, well maybe except for their Blue Burger. It's always difficult to choose which one I'm gonna have. 06/07/24 First, let's be clear, this place is very very old, goes way back to stagecoach bar with rooms upstairs for over-night stay. It's considered to be a dive bar, but has so much going for it nobody really cares. Dress is casual or less-than casual, outdoor sidewalk table service in nice weather. You'll find young, old, families, the village drunk (Hey Otis!) and the occasional just-passing-thru celebrators. Maybe 10 stools at bar with high-tops against windows, have anything you'd want, service very good. Casual dining room, lots of vintage tin signs everywhere to peruse, menu of beef, chicken, pasta, with added bonus of very nice chef chosen specials. Food prices made me gasp out loud, $18.00 for an 8 oz burger, we passed on that nonsense. Had broiled fish fry, was about $16.00, fish portion should have been 50% bigger, coleslaw tasty with vinegar only base (no mayo), fries good, everything was hot and very tasty. I paused when I picked up the pepper shaker, and wondered when it was last properly washed with soap and hot water. Our server was friendly and quick. I timed our meal order, 12 minutes from time of order to being served. It was Friday at 5 p.m., I consider this excellent turn-around, but we were the only ones in dining room. We go to The Cottage a few times a year and it never disappoints. Started with a couple of fresh drafts waiting for the table. Started with garlic-Buffalo wings... these were some of the best wings I've had in years, excellent. Then I had the sauteed beef on weck with au jus. Meat was very tender, nice kimmelweck bun, and the sandwich had just the right amount of sauce and horseradish. My wife had a chicken Caesar wrap, was very happy with it. It was an interesting experience. The prime rib brought out the "Stark" et. al. In us - We HAD TO gnaw on the bone by picking it up. The rustic wood floor and neighborhood bar kitsch with claw game is homey. The ATM is the "signpost" for the Men's Room - and hope you aren't handicapped, it's a tight fit The seasonal veg was good with a hint of melted cheese The Organic Blue Potato Mash was a smash and richly seasoned - maybe too much. Sometimes you need balance between rich and simple. Acoustics - hard floors, walls, and ceilings mean the volume can get up there. The corn fritters app, as mentioned in my tip, are fantastic. Tap beer offerings are a nice variety. It's not on our normal flight path but we will likely find our way back. read more

Hey everyone, So this is a total local hang out. It's a busy little resturant. It's standard bar food . Burgers ,fries, sampler baskets and sometimes they have live music. This is definitely one of my go to places if I'm in the mood for a chill place to grab food. Staff is really nice and it's a causal setting. They also have a little game section which is nice for the younger children. In the summer they also have seating outside. read more

Had a lazy lunch late at a spot off the beaten path in Mendon. People refer to it as the Cottage Hotel. This was my first experience there. If you don't look hard, you'll likely miss it on hwy 64. There was one bartender who took care of drinks, serving, and everything else out front. Locals were at the bar. There are a few TVs scattered around which were good for following the PGA Championship. I ordered the basic hamburger with swiss chess and homemade chips. To say the burger was plentiful would be a mild understatement. It had to weigh a pound before cooking. It was was cooked medium as ordered and the chips were crispy and tasty. While only one server was there, he proved to be proficient at multi-tacking. Service was very very good. The burger, which I don't eat too often, well met my expectations. Had dinner here a couple nights ago - food and service were good but the experience was marred by an extremely loud hard rock band playing in the dining room. I ordered a special - goat and lamb stew served in a bread bowl. Nice big chunks of meat in a thick gravy with carrots and potatoes - very good seasoning - and it seemed like the crusty bread was fresh baked. It came with a side salad, which was a nice size. Overall, a good amount of food and good value at $14. In general, The Cottage has good service and they work with local farms to serve local meat and veg. The owners are good people too - this night there was also some kind of fundraiser going on and the entire bar area was packed. The only downside was the extremely loud music. Upon talking to a waitress we learned this was a replacement band brought in at the last minute to fill a music gap and it was unexpected that they were hard rock. I would recommend, as they have a nice variety on their menu, and much of it is local; one tip - parking can be a challenge, so either get there early or be patient as you drive around looking for a spot! read more

Service was very quick and friendly, our server kept our drinks full and didn't make us feel rushed. Since it wasn't busy we lingered a bit to catch up. We sat outside and wouldn't do that again. We are from out of state and here visiting a couple nights and found this restaurant by chance. The ladies working were, friendly, bustling and efficient. Fish tacos were outstanding and sweet potato fries great. Dad had burger and said very good. I would highly recommend. We have been coming here for years. With the newer ownership it seems that if you aren't a regular that comes in daily, you get ignored. Recently I came in for lunch around 12:30. Granted, it was lunch time but not all that busy. I stood at the doorway waiting to be seated for 15 minutes when my friend arrived and we stood 10 more minutes. It was the owner who barely acknowledged my standing there and another young woman waiting tables. A large table of 5 men obviously got sick of waiting for their order to be taken. They got up and waited at the bar to tell them they were leaving but again no one acknowledged them so they walked out. Meanwhile after standing at the door almost 25 minutes, my friend and I left. It is not the first time this has happened either. We sat one time for over 30 minutes for our food to come out. Our medium rare burgers were charred and unedible. Come on! At least come up to your customer and let them know how long a wait they can expect. (By the way, there were open tables where we could have been seated.) Acknowledge and make them feel welcomed don't ignore them and leave them wondering if they are invisible. After awhile we just stood there to see how long it would take the owner to talk to us. But that never happened. Good way to lose business. I like their food when I don't have to wait 30 minutes for it. But it isn't worth that type of unfriendly environment. We are locals and although convenient we will choose another establishment where they value their customers and at least explain the delay. Either hire more help or shut your doors. You aren't all that great. Two reluctant stars because we have had enjoyable meals there in the distant past. read more

This has become our "hometown" bar. The bartenders are welcoming and great at serving and making drinks. We love the food too! You have to try the Parmesan crusted Tuna Melt. It's amazing! No sauce on the dish the waitress came back and specifically got clarification on our choice. No buffalo burgers after ordered it. Even the potato chips tasted stale.
