OMG we happened on this place from a recommendation from the secretary at Schwab's. Thank goodness we went because it was great!! My husband had the chili & it had a good taste & kick! I had the soup special of creamy chicken & it was a great way to start. Hubby had a Beef on Weck & ad jus with coleslaw. He gave the highest compliment possible when he said it was better than Schwabl's restaurant by a mile!!! He said it was more tender & done perfectly plus the bun & Ad Jus was yummy!! He said the coleslaw was good. I had the Beef Brisket grilled cheese with Golden sauce & fries. Wow that sandwich is one I can't wait to go back & get again!! Such tender tasty beef & yes it's messy you will lick your fingers!! The fries were perfect as they were crispy on the outside & soft inside & tasted wonderful! We were there at a non busy time of day but I can see where this place could get hoping! It has a full bar & lots of TV's. Was in the area and wanted a quick bite. Sat at the bar which at the time was well lit, and had maybe 4 other couples. By the time our beers came, we regretted even ordering them. We were planning for food and told the bartender we had a change of mind and just the drinks. Within the first 2 minutes of being there, she told us how much she wanted her shift to end, how crazy her life is, how drunk she got the night before, being out until 2am as a 60+ year old, so on and so forth. After living in Pittsford for 30 years, this was my first visit to the Basin Pub and likely my last. It's essentially a basic neighborhood bar with no ambience, yet the prices don't reflect that. The drinks were fine (can't ruin a draft IPA) and priced above market for this type of establishment.The food was disappointing across the board. The nachos were weak with very sparse toppings. The chicken wings looked more like chicken nuggets. The Cobb salad and the Reuben were both marginal and lacking flavor. Overall, the quality and value just weren't there. You get what you pay for, and in this case, we overpaid. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend making a special trip. read more

I've been wanting to order food from The Basin Pub for awhile now. They are located close by and i've been looking to fast food alternatives and take-out options. I ordered a club sandwich with fries and the shabang shabang shrimp appetizer to go. Everything was hot a ready to pick-up at the stated time. The club sandwich was tasty with nicely toasted bread and generous portions. I'll definitely be returning to The Basin Pub. We have enjoyed early dinners at the Basin in the past... yesterday continued to extend that experience. We arrived about 5:20pm and were greeted by the hostess, Erin. We requested a booth, and while it initially appeared there were none available - due to reservations, she managed to seat us in a booth bc another booth was going to be available shortly. Our server, Dee, was also very cordial, helpful and attentive to our requests and needs. The chicken special was served promptly, delicious, and well presented. From the outside, the basin pub looks like a hole in the wall. I have avoided it, since that was my Impression and others quoted "it was fine." I walked in on a Monday and was Pleasantly surprised. It looked nice in there. We were seated at a booth. They have some local beers on tap which is nice. I went with a blue moon (not on tap) but it never disappoints. The spicy chicken sandwich was ok. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of Texas style spicy rub. It was not spicy at all. Just buttermilk breading that's soaked up a ton of grease. The chicken under it was decent. And the fries were good. I wouldn't turn anyone away from going here, but I'm not sure if it would be my first choice of dinner spots either. read more

Wasn't bad at all! Not sure why their rating is only three stars. The prices are decent and portions were good! The Mexican salad with beans and corn was enough for two with chicken added. Buffalo chicken wings were great too! They had decent beer on tap and the service was good! The choices for dessert look delicious and varied, as we were sitting right by the dessert blackboard. Fish fry lovers, pay attention. This is one of the few places that takes their fish fry seriously as I do. Panko crusted fry is delicious accompanied by house made fries and chow slaw. Well done. As usual the food was good. My friends and I usually stop in for lunch. Yesterday we came for dinner, and I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak. It was very good. The servers were friendly, although I counted 2 waitresses ob and a floater. From the time we entered to after we finished it became quite crowded. We started if with appetizers. A bowl of New England Clam Chowder that was chick full of clans plus potatoes. Nice seasoning. Hot, soft, salted pretzels with beer cheese dip. Three Heads IPA was the beer base. Blackened Grilled Chicken with Swiss & Avocado, a soft dressing in the side. Dan had coleslaw for the side. Solid place to get a bite in a casual setting. Typical experience of what you'd think for a pub. They were able to accommodate a big group of 6+ with a table. There were booths and seating at the bar. People were happy and loud inside which made it hard to hear but not a dealbreaker. Service was quick and friendly. I've been here a couple of times and overall the food is not bad; a step up for bar food. This place seems to buzz with activity and noise during happy hour. I get to practice reading lips when I'm here. My friend always orders and raves about the crab and lobster cake sandwich, which looks good and hearty. I've tried the salmon salad and the roasted beet salad with salmon, chicken, and portobello mushrooms. Both times, the salmon was cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned. The roasted beets were tasty and complimented the salmon, not so much the grilled chicken and portobello. Overall, the food here is better than typical bar foods. read more

Ok, this place serves an awesome roast beef sandwich... and I mean awesome! First, they roast their own meats (roast beef, turkey, and corned beef), and it's apparent b/c the meats taste very fresh... and, moreover, their meats are tender and moist, which tells me that The Basin Pub has certainly figure out how to roast their meats to perfection! Also, their meats seem to be seasoned perfectly... in fact, the roast beef was utterly mouthwatering! The sandwiches come in queen (5 oz.) and king (10 oz.) sizes... and, of course, I ordered the king, which was huge and just right for my appetite! (I had just been to a fitness training, so I needed lots of calories!) They also offers a wide variety of toppings and dressings for their sandwiches, so I was able to build mine to my liking (on this visit, I got Kimmelwek bread, cheddar cheese, and a host of fresh veggies). As for sides, the Pub serves their sandwiches with Kettle Chips, but I asked for sweet potatoes fries instead, and they gladly substituted for me. This place is your typical pub-- lots of wood everywhere, and plenty of beer choices... but I enjoy pubs, so this was a plus for me. Also, the wait staff was friendly and more than accommodating! I definitely recommend this place-- especially if you're looking for an amazing sandwich. They also have some interesting menu items that I wasn't able to try but sounded yummy (e.g., Lobster Mac & Cheese). What a pleasant surprise! When I learned that my son had a few friends working @ the Pub, I thought nothing of it. Given that I had heard nothing about the pub from my friends, I assumed it was on the level of Crummers (now closed) & the Pittsford Pub. Not a place I would necessarily seek out but good in a pinch. So , when I met a friend out there for a business lunch a few weeks ago I did not have high expectations. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! Had a great lunch (ordered one of my mainstays, a Buffalo Chicken wrap) and was impressed by the the level of service there. I am updating my initial review from 3 to 4 stars as I was very happy with the service my party of 3 received today and how they are operating during Covid. We called before heading over to see if they had outdoor seating available (they did) and when we arrived they'd already placed 3 menus and place settings on one of the tables for us. They've moved several tables our front, typically dining is only inside. The menu is shortened, understandably, but still with many good options. We ordered country sweet wings for the table (always ask for extra crispy) and they were amazing. One of my fav wings in Rochester. Followed it up with the Cutlet entree over greens with a summer lemon vinaigrette and it was fantastic. Fresh greens, perfectly fried panko breaded chicken, and the lemon was light and flavourful. I've been to the Basin Pub several times over the years, but stopped going a few years ago for meals when the service was so slow, it was a frustrating outing nearly every time. Since then it was only worth stopping in for a drink and to catch a game. We decided to give it another chance as it's advertised under new management. When we arrived for dinner last night we immediately noticed an updated, brighter atmosphere. The bar was busy and the tables were full. We were able to get a booth relatively quickly for the two of us. Our server quickly came and took our drink orders and presented a few specials. The menu is more streamlined than how I remembered it, but still a wide selection of options. I had the panko breaded fish and she had the turkey reuben. We both had no complaints, as I remember the food was always good and still is. But this time the service was excellent. What used to seem like forever between server visits, last night our server was on top of things, regularly checking in as you'd expect. In summary, a far better experience that previous years and we're looking forward to going back to our neighborhood pub and making it part of our regular rotation. read more

Atmosphere & Service is 4 stars here. The food that I ordered is a 3 rating. This rating to me means totally acceptable for you to eat/try their food and yes I'd come back here but mostly for their drinks. This seemed like a chill local pub for the Pittsford residents. We sat at the bar where our tender made strong perfectly portioned drinks while the server from UofBinghamton chatted us up with the friendliest of conversations as she rolled silverware. The poutine was fine, the wings were fine, the Buffalo blue cheese dip was tons of blu in it, the Thai shrimp were fine so as you see it was all about finger foods for us. Maybe I ordered the wrong things to try but those items afforded me a chance to try their little things that should go a long way and set you up for the mains. Had dinner there tonight. Took 20 minutes before they came to take our order. When our food came, we ordered a cheeseburger to go. After dinner she brought our check and we gave her our credit card. She brought it back and we thought she was going to get our burger. After 10 minutes we had to go find her in the kitchen. She forgot to ever put our order in. The place was only half full and all the waitstaff and bartender seem to hang in the kitchen. Clients are definitely an inconvenience. We won't make a mistake of going there again. Very sad service. In support of local restaurants, my family got take out from the Basin Pub on Friday, May 22. Three of the four meals were excellent. The grilled salmon salad, the Ruben sandwich with corned beef, and the chicken wings were first rate, but unfortunately the chicken French was terrible. The chicken was soggy and tasteless; it was like eating wet cardboard. At $17 the Basin Pub needs to do better. The owner and chef should both be required to eat it every night for a week. Ordering and pick up process was easy and flawless, so well done. If the chicken French wasn't such a disappointment, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

Every town should have a Cheers-type pub. While Bushnell's Basin isn't quite a town or village, closer to a hamlet, the Pub sits in the center of "downtown" activity nestled near hamburger and Chinese food outlets. The draft beer selection is good and the menu is extensive. I had the lobster roll, actually 2, stuffed with some of the best lobster salad around and subbed onion rings for the usual fries. Went here recent with my family (weeknight about 7pm). Our service and food was very good. I was very happy as a MA transplant to see lobster rolls on the menu! I had to order it, and it was done in the proper way, with a little mayo, on a toasted bun...actually my order came with 2, score! The beer on tap was pretty, surprisingly limited...which was ok, we went across the street after and got some excellent stuff at the Hess (but that's another review!) My only real negative was there was a large group (of about 10 people) sitting at the table behind us that was totally out of control with their language and volume. Our table could not even carry on a conversation. They pretty much monopolized the entire establishment atmosphere. I am no prude but really, it was over the top...and I think a few of them were a bit too drunk. The servers were overwhelmed/understaffed. The Caesar salad was tasteless and the salmon was poorly cooked. The special Rueben was bland as was the coleslaw was too watery and also bland. Love what the new owners have done with the lighting and wall art. The pretzels and pub cheese were delicious and had a great kick of heat. Unfortunately our dinner salads were really disappointing. My husband's beet salad had only 3 small slices of white beet on it. My southwest salad had no black beans at all, two small pieces of avocado, only about 5 kernels of corn and a light sprinkle of cheese. It was basically just a big bowl of mixed greens and tomatoes. The tortilla chips were oily and tasteless cardboard without even a hint of salt. We hope there is more attention to detail in the kitchen when we return next time. read more
