We stopped in on Friday night on our way to the Jazz Festival. We haven't been here in a while and Ben remembered us (our faces at least). We found a table as the bar was crowded as people watched the World Cup games. Ben took great care of us - drinks, water, food - all while managing the bar area too. No steps to get in, the 2 bathrooms are unisex, and there is a pool table! Lots of seating too - great for groups. My burger and sweet potato fries were perfect. Hubby enjoyed his chicken sandwich and regular fries. No time for dessert this visit. We'll be back soon. read more

We didn't end up looking for somewhere to have dinner on Easter Sunday until almost 8 PM (yeah, I know, poor planning on our part), so a lot of places were closed both as it was late on Sunday and late on a holiday.... After a couple of false starts, we ended up at the Tryon Tavern, and the kitchen was still open as well. The bartender was friendly, and we had drinks right away, a cider for me and a Genessee for the guy. Drinks were cold and I liked the cider I was served, so everyone was happy. They have a moderate sized food menu. The guy ordered wings with a spicy Korean barbeque. He didn't say much, but he was busy eating, so I assume they were good! We shared some mozzarella sticks, which were also solid - not home made, I don't think, but hot and melty, so, again, everybody was happy. I saw that you could get any burger made with either chicken or a veggie patty for no extra charge (yay!), so had the Late Riser with a veggie patty. Again, I'm pretty sure it was a Morning Star spicy black bean patty, but I like those, and it tasted great with eggs, guacamole, cheese, and chipotle mayo. There was a little spice from the mayo and the bean burger. I really liked it. The "side" of garlic parm fries was huge! They had a good ratio of topping to fries. Getting our food took a bit longer than expected, but we assumed that since it was late on a holiday, there were probably not many people working that night. Not recently. I went a few times for Friday fish fry which was usually good. The service was good initially but degraded to terrible after a couple times. The last time I was there, a woman at the bar asked another guest to hand me my dinner plate. It's a dive and a dump of a place. I'd never return. read more

The food is good and the prices reasonable (the varieties of different burgers are particularly intriguing--try the Peachy Keen!). The wings never disappoint, and there are enough sauces to always keep things interesting. The beer selection is always diverse, and the prices are low enough for you to remark, "wow! That's cheap for a craft beer!" And as a bonus, the music is always good (classic rock, jam bands, etc.). The staff are attentive and nice. I can't say enough good about this place!! Since starting to come here a couple years ago, I have been back many, many times. Their food is excellent, their beer selection is always top notch and their prices are very fair. I have had many differt things to eat here and they are all amung the best I have ever had. Their burgers, garbage plates, and fish frys are SOOO GOOD! It can be a real struggle choosing what to get. They also have a pool table and play great music. My favorite go-to spot. read more

Great spot for food, drink specials and the neighborhood feel. The queso was creamy slightly spicy and the chips were slightly seasoned. Friday fish fry is thick, tender, juicy and not overly battered. It's large and comes with two sides, the sandwich is topped with slaw and comes with one side. The garlic parmesan fries didn't have as much flavor as you might hope for. The clam chowder is not very thick but there is a good amount of bacon, potato and clam in it. read more

Tryon City Tavern is the definition of a local hole in the wall bar with great food. Their beer selection on tap is small, but there are usually several craft beers on tap in addition to a macrobrew or two. It definitely gets loud in the bar when there is a crowd. I had the pub pretzels with beer cheese as an appetizer. It was among the best pretzel cheeses I've ever had. Their pizza logs are also a solid option, but they aren't exceptionally noteworthy. For the main course I recommend one of their signature burgers, a chicken sandwich, or a fish fry (Friday special). The crispy "Feelin' Saucy Chicken Sandwich" was shockingly large. It looked like a full chicken breast that was lightly battered and fried. The chicken was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, with a coating of medium buffalo sauce that had more kick to it than I was anticipating. For sides, both the sweet potato fries and garlic parmesan fries are worth the upcharge. read more

I'm adding one more star to my previous review after having the Quentin Chicken Sandwich! Get the fried chicken option. This sandwich is huge and so, so good. Best fried chicken in Rochester. It's made up of a huge piece of fried chicken with perfect breading, bacon, Swiss, and paprika ranch. The ranch is delicious and the perfect sauce to go with the other flavors. Pair it with the garlic parm fries and you have the most amazing meal you'll ever eat! Seriously, I'm obsessed with this sandwich and those fries. read more

With a coupon in hand on a bitter cold night we ventured here with friends to check out this replacement for Ellisons. You won't go here for the ambiance - it was very bright for a bar (they eventually dimmed the lights) and the backroom is now dominated by a pool table. We choose to sit in the bar area which was quite quiet and empty at 6pm on a Saturday. The bartender is the server so the service was "relaxed". She was very friendly and helpful - just not fast. The menu has most of the typical bar items. Three of us ordered burgers - two got the Late Riser with a fried egg on it and I got the one with bacon, bbq sauce, and jalapenos - all were very good and properly cooked medium rare. This was my 3rd time here and it's definitely the food that keeps me coming back. Service can be hit or miss... my 1st time here I actually turned around and walked out because nobody acknowledged us, tried to seat us, etc. and there is no sign that says seat yourself. I think it's mostly due to them being understaffed - the place is always full on weekend evenings - but if you can get over that initial awkward "where do I sit" moment, service after that is pretty decent. On this specific visit they did have a disgruntled grubhub customer come in and complain and things got pretty heated. All of the patrons turned when they heard yelling and watched the customer storm out and throw one of the bar chairs to the ground. Not necessarily the employees' fault but I'm sure it could have been diffused/taken elsewhere. Now for the food: I've had their fish fry twice now and it's to die for! Crispy, flaky goodness served with battered fries... a must-try for anyone that goes out for fish fry fridays. They also have a decent rotation of beers on tap with some good local names to choose from. The blue cheese queso is yummy too and I plan on coming back to try some wings and other bar snacks. The good eats are enough to outweigh the setbacks and earn this place a solid 4 stars in my opinion! read more

Ya know what? This place is great. What an unexpected little gem in a weird little plaza. While the vegetarian selection leaves A LOT to be desired, the service and community makes up for it. Also the garlic parm fries. They really do the trick. I had a grilled cheese sandwich 'cause that's literally the only veg thing on the menu (come on, guys, you can do better!!!). It was fine. Nothing special. But did I mention the garlic parm fries? They were excellent. We went on taco Tuesday so they had some meaty specials (cough cough, another easy opportunity for veggie options!!), but the husband got a burger that he really enjoyed. Definitely one of our new neighborhood go-tos for a bite! At least a few more times. At some point I will no longer want to eat grilled cheese, but I'll probably keep coming back for the fries anyway. read more

This was not my first time here, but it's my first review. My first experience was almost a year ago and I came for their trivia night. It's kind of a little hole in the wall place, nothing fancy, trivia started I think 30 minutes late. I didn't particularly like it at first. However, while we were there, we talked with almost everyone and the people were so friendly! What really blew me away was the food, who would have guessed?? This last time, I got the caprese chicken sandwich with fries which was very good! I've had their wings too but I by far recommend getting anything that you can eat with their blue cheese! It truly keeps me coming back. I believe it is homemade and just delicious. We went there wanting to eat outside but there were no tables, the waitress went out of her way to create a place for us to be able to sit. This restaurant/bar has been under different management several time over the last thirty years. They are under fairly new management again and they do a spectacular job here. The food and service is very good for being a neighborhood place. I especially enjoy the wings, the Friday fish fry, and the nice selection of craft beers. They have a delicious selection of food starters and sandwiches for you to enjoy and they are experts at executing prompt, courteous service. They bring in a DJ about once a month for a Sunday afternoon party and they have a pool table in the back. There are a lot of different restaurant/bar choices in this neighborhood but this is the one that I enjoy the most. I give The Tryon City Tavern 4 solid Yelp stars and this is the place that I prefer to hit when I am in the Winton Village neighborhood. read more

Great little hole in the wall. You wouldn't expect much from a place in the strip mall plaza. Staff is friendly but it's hard to get noticed if your not a "regular". Had a good burger and the parm fries are just as good as what everyone raves about!!! I'll be back for another burger, beer, and football game!! read more

This reboot of my local bar was not as successful as I wished. I visited this place before a few times, because it's very close from my house, and frankly it's one of the best options for a burger and beer in my neighborhood. Decided to try it out with some friends that recently moved and I must say is not as great as I remembered. The highlight was the pretzels with cheese, they were delicious. The other food was OK. My biggest gripe with this place is that they put a billiards table in the middle of the dining area. As soon a someone decides to play billiards, everyone that's eating will get inconvenienced. My fried was almost hit once, and two other tables had a similar problem when people were playing. Next time I go, if I do, I would see if I can sit in the bar area. Otherwise I will just drive somewhere else, away from the North Winton neighborhood. read more

This was a great, lively dinner on Friday night! We went for wings, fish fry, and pretzels. The cheese for the pretzels was amazing. I really enjoyed my broiled haddock and hard cider. The only thing that I did not like about my dinner was the billiards table directly behind us. The players bumped me in the back with their sticks as they were taking a shot near the end of our meal. I wasn't a huge fan of the bump, but it was OK as I was no longer eating. The wait staff was great, food was good, and cider was good. All in all, a good Friday hangout! read more

Looking for someplace new and needing something to do my boyfriend and I ended up at Tyron City Tavern. The atmosphere was awesome, not crowded and the bartender-Kathy was very friendly! We sampled a raspberry local beer and ended up ordering a local lager and vanilla porter (both on tap). We played some darts while waiting for our food and watching March Madness games. I ordered a red Hot with sides and it was yummy! I was able to get "salt potatoes and very seasoned asparagus." Probably the best grilled asparagus I have ever had! It was excellent. My boyfriend ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with hot sauce and fries. It was very tasty and the fries were very crispy (not soggy). I will def go back! It's a very chill bar with nice people, good beer, dart board and good food. What more can you ask for! You gotta check this place out! 4 stars!!! read more

Super disappointed in this place tonight. Got takeout, broiled fish which was probably one of the smallest pieces of fish I have ever received from a restaurant. Ordered sweet potato fries which are an extra charge, which is fine when you get more than 5 fries and they are not a big soggy mess because the fish has been laying on top of them...gross. A lot of money for not a lot of food. Get way better portions at other places who also have proper takeout containers for the food they are serving. Such a shame, usually enjoy going here and trying to support local establishments. read more

We went to Tryon City to watch football and eat dinner. The TVs were in good locations, so that made part one easy. When we walked in, the bartender asked what we were here to see and if any TVs needed changing- that is great service! For an app, our group had the warm pretzels with cheese sauce and wings with Tryon sauce. The pretzels were a little burnt, but soooo good. The cheese sauce has a little kick of spice and was perfect. Wings were pretty good. For dinner the hubs and I split the early riser burger- it was amazing. One of the best burgers I've had in a while. I had slaw on the side, and it was standard but good. For beer they had limited draft selections, but despite that had really fantastic local choices. My hubs had a Rohrbach and a Roc beer. I ordered the Cabernet Sauvignon, which was Cupcake brand. Would have preferred local, but for a sports bar it was better than usual and fresh. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Tryon except for the fact that it was freezing cold! Hopefully that will improve before the next visit. read more

Third time is not a charm. Don't even bother giving a temp for the burger, they only know how to cook it 1 way, medium well. I prefer my burgers medium rare or medium at the most. I got one today February 15, 2018 and its officially third time in a row that the burger was way over cooked. I will say that the garlic fries are good and they know how to season their food because the taste is on point. I recommend they start cooking Tom whals style burgers and do a thin patty and don't even offer temps. Good luck Tryon, I hope you figure it out. read more

We ordered this food off of Grubhub, and the food that we got was chili cheese hotdog with garlic parm fries and the fish fry with regular fries. Now the food looked really good, But! The food tasted nothing like how it looked, the food had no flavor at all! We didn't even finish half the fish cause it tasted like nothing, even with tarter sauce and hot sauce there was no helping it. The fries could have been more seasoned as well, and the hot dog just seemed like they toasted everything. Don't know if I would try this place again. read more

The staff ... SUPER FRIENDLY. This place is warm & inviting. The drinks are amazing & the food ... let's start with the wings. Tryon sauce & Tai sweet chili wings ... perfection. Cooked perfectly.
