    Savory pastry
    Jessica D.

Came here to watch the super bowl and had a great time. Bartender was friendly and welcoming. Great happy hour deals for $6 including options like burger, poutine, chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were some of the freshest juiciest chicken I've had, definitely unexpected for bar food. The special of the week was a savory puff pastry with chicken tikka. The concept was cool but the filling was a bit too acidic for my taste. Dessert was a warm skillet bake topped with ice cream, a wonderful end to the night.

    Quiet side

After visiting a loved one in the hospital, we wanted food to nourish our souls as well as our bellies and this was the spot! It was clean and had beautiful wood tables, booths and bar. There was football in the other room, but it was far enough away that we were able to have a quiet conversation. Our server Whitney had only been on the job for a few weeks but was very knowledgeable and was very personable. They have a QR code for their beverages with descriptions so lovely they made you want to try each one. I only had a cider, but my companion sampled a few. Whitney also shared that on her day off she was planning on reading up on the multiple kinds of EANAB (equally attractive non-alcoholic beverages). We shared a poutine- which was large, delicious and had flavorful gravy. It could have managed a few more curds but I also think everything could do with more cheese. My companion had bangers and mash and was only able to eat one of the sausages. I had an enormous piece of fish with my fish and chips and the fish was very moist and flaky. Both entrees came with minted mushy peas- not my thing but I understand they go with the theme. We were able to pack enough leftovers to feed three people for another meal. For dessert we split sticky toffee pud and it was really delicious. I am not a local, but have already recommended it to at least two people who are.

    Poutine!

We were looking for a place for dinner and boy did we get lucky! The place is clean and well-furnished, and the bar is gorgeous. We wanted a little quiet so we sat on the other side - it looked like there was also outdoor seating for nicer weather. Whitney took great care of us and helped us select some delicious dinner options. The beer descriptions were also great - the QR code to a real time list is a great option and means it's always current and doesn't depend on the server to know beer. We ended up starting with a terrific plate of poutine. I might have liked a little more salt on the chips, but it was delicious. It was also huge. Two people splitting it should probably have split an entree too as we ended up taking some home. I had the bangers and mash - excellent sausages and taters, and a nice zingy mustard sauce. I can take or leave mushy peas but I have that same issue in the UK. My dinner companion had the fish and chips which were also delicious (and big). We split a sticky toffee pud and overall it was a delicious meal, and terrific service. We took home enough for another meal, so take that into consideration!

Chicken dippies with blue cheese ($6 happy hour special, everyday 4-6p)
    Laura G.

Favorite parts: - Happy hour everyday 4-6pm, which includes menu items like a happy burger (like a McD burger but 1000X better quality and much bigger), basket of fries, chicken dippies (3 piece handmade tenders). I just wish they had a printed happy hour menu (maybe they do, I just didn't see it). - Service: Nick our waiter was personable. Made sure we were well-taken care of and told a great story. Also loved the whole vibe throughout the pub/restaurant. - I highly recommend trying the Scotch egg. It's a soft boiled egg encased in a THICCKKK layer of breakfast sausage, breaded, and then deep fried. The Sheffield burger was also a favorite. The fact that the bun was spread with a garlicky butter, brought it to the next level. And I found out that I love cheese not being fully melted on the burger. Only thing that could have made it better would be making it with a homemade juicy patty. Would definitely come back when in the area.

Our new favorite hang! Rotating selection of beers, prosecco on tap and fantastic mashed potatoes. The Duchess approves! She say they're to die for... and the Coronation chicken sarnie fills the bill.

    Whipped feta and beetroot

The Sheffield is a place we've been meaning to check out for several years and we've just never made it there. We've been missing out! For starters we had the whipped feta and beetroot, and Tendies and Dippies. The feta and beets were fantastic. Likewise, the Tendies and Dippies were loved. The breading and fry on the chicken was so wonderfully done -- light, flavorful, and perfectly cooked such that they were juicy. Dipping sauces were also great and we should have kept them for french fry dipping later. The fries were well seasoned and crisp. For the burgers, both of them were perfectly cooked, and the toppings and sauces were thoughtful and in just the perfect quantity. "The Sheffield" might just be among of the best burgers you can get in the Rochester area. Service was attentive. We will definitely return.

Stopped here on a whim. The food menu & cocktail menu is top notch. Ordered Bangers & Mash with an Other Half West Coast IPA.

House made apple rhubarb cobbler - Omgosh so good!
    Laura R.

Stopped in for a late dinner. Hubby ordered bangers and mash and I had the pork schnitzel sandwich. Both dishes were delicious - I would definitely order the pork sandwich again - it was so crispy. I had a glass of Cabernet but they were out of cranberry (???) so hubby did not have his usual Ketel One and cranberry. Josh took great care of us. He checked in regularly but was not obtrusive. We also had dessert - thanks Josh for the suggestion - apple rhubarb cobbler is the best! We will be back again soon.

Went on Sunday night, it was quiet with lots of tables available. After chatting with our server, she said that it can get very busy some nights. Especially Tuesday for trivia! They take reservations for 4+ people. Our food was great with lots of fun options! Prices were appropriate for the portion and quality! Wing nights on Wednesdays, half off. Trivia night on Tuesday.

It's almost like a speakeasy, where the front is set up like a travel agency and once you're checked in you get transported into this hidden gem tiki bar!! The food was delicious! I came here with my bf and friends. They were able to accommodate our allergies as well (I'm gluten free and my bf can't have dairy, eggs, nuts, fish, and they were still able to give him lots of food!). They had lots of fun drinks on the menu too. Definitely coming back here!

The outside is decorated as a travel agency and the host walks you in. Our server was friendly and answered our questions about the drinks and food. Their menu is a "sharing menu". I will say that I think the best value are their family style platters. We tried the Mahalo pork which was good. Likely enough for 2-3 people. The Duck Spring Rolls were good but I didn't ask how many came in an order. It's 2 rolls for $18, which is not a great value. The Yaki Skewers were good. We got the shoyu chicken but again it's $15 for 3 skewers so not a great value. Drinks average $18 but they were good and came with fun umbrellas etc. Overall we'd return for drinks and maybe the pork platter. 4 stars for service and theme but 3 stars for overall value. They are right next to the paid lot and do validate but be aware you can get towed if the validation doesn't process for some reason. Yes, we've seen it happen

This is the best for folks who like to bring their pups everywhere and I wish I had known sooner. Word is out that the original Chef is now back to make the great food the bistro once served. On my first visit I had the wings, which are the same they make for JD Oxford's...but this time with the house sauce, which is the same tangy-smoky bbq meets hot sauce mix that has been adapted by many restaurants. And naturally they cooked them to my specifications :-) I paired them with genny's salted caramel vanilla porter...or w/e it's called. On my second visit, my buddy and I shared the Turcott's poutine and instantly became my fave. Hardly greasy and hardly salty without sacrificing the good balance of flavors As you have guessed by now, I've been back twice under the new name. The first time was on Turkey day eve. They had yet to have the new menu available, but their beer list was good to go. The place underwent a hell of a face lift -- inside and out! Remember the wobbling tables? NO MORE! All the wood benches/booths are now nice and cushioned. The rear top half level is now carpeted and as great for group as it once used to be.. The bar is very shiny and beauteous. Other additions to the bar is a second flat screen, a juke box and a dart board machine. They new improvements is much more like a bar while maintaining the coziness and low key socializing vibe that its predecessor built a reputation for. Monroe is full of rowdy joints. This is a very exciting return to neighborhood. Cocktail menu is coming soon...and hopefully some happy hour specials!

For years, I had no issues--until one of the security guards, an older light-skinned man with dreadlocks who has worked there forever, began targeting me for no reason. On multiple occasions he acted aggressive and confrontational toward me, even though I never raised my voice or reacted negatively. The last incident was the worst. He disrespected me in a way no customer should ever experience, threatened to "f** me up,"* and had me banned despite the fact that I never did anything to him. His hostility seems to stem from the fact that he doesn't like someone I happen to associate with--someone who also never disrespected him. What makes this even more concerning is that the owner appears to allow this type of behavior. I've seen this guard act out for years, and instead of correcting it, it feels like it's been encouraged. Many people I know have had negative experiences at this bar, and some have even lost their lives due to the environment created when drug activity is allowed inside. I've spent thousands of dollars here over the last 17 years, and never have I been disrespected the way I was by someone who is supposed to ensure customer safety. I considered speaking to the owner directly, but based on what I've witnessed, I truly believe she condones this behavior from her staff. After nearly two decades of loyalty, I can confidently say I will never return.
